Did “rainbow parties” really exist? Langston and David sit down with Miles Gray (The Daily Zeitgeist) to talk about this sex-based conspiracy theory. How many lipsticks were involved? Was this another moral panic in America? Who attended these parties? Also, who made boomers in charge of oral sex culture? Of course, Oprah and Shaunie O'Neal are involved. Whether it's getting wet, maintaining an erection, the pressure to perform and orgasm, being intimate can make you feel super vulnerable and can bring some deep rooted anxieties to the surface. We chat to Dr Nicole Cain, an expert in trauma-informed clinical psychology, about why panic can manifest, how to spot the warning signs and how to manage it.DM us your thoughts, questions, topics, or to just vent at @triplejthehookup on IG or email us: thehookup@abc.net.auThe Hook Up is an ABC podcast, produced by triple j. In this episode we speak with Paul Renfro about his book Stranger Danger: Family Values, Childhood, and the American Carceral State Paul Renfro is an associate professor of history and an affiliate faculty in the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program at Florida State University. In addition to Stranger Danger, He is also the coeditor of Growing Up America: Youth and Politics since 1945, and the author of the forthcoming book The Life and Death of Ryan White: AIDS and Inequality in America which comes out this fall on UNC Press. Stranger Danger tells the story of how bereaved parents of missing and slain children turned their grief into a mass movement and, alongside journalists and policymakers from both major political parties, propelled a moral panic. Leveraging larger cultural fears concerning familial and national decline, these child safety crusaders warned Americans of a supposedly widespread and worsening child kidnapping threat, erroneously claiming that as many as fifty thousand American children fell victim to stranger abductions annually. The actual figure was (and remains) between one hundred and three hundred, and kidnappings perpetrated by family members and acquaintances occur far more frequently. We get into all of that and focus intently in this conversation on how Stranger Danger functioned from its inception as a moral panic or a sex panic. A panic Renfro argues we've never emerged from, one that still animates the reality of mass incarceration today, but is often less discussed than other contributing factors to the largest system of carceral control and punishment in the world. This conversation was originally recorded all the way back on September 8th and was slated to be released on Halloween to time it up with the ridiculous annual copaganda about strangers lacing children's candy a reliable myth propelled by the child safety regime. Obviously that timeline was dramatically derailed by our focus on work around Palestine which has largely taken the form of videos on our YouTube channels. My apologies to Paul Renfro for taking so long to get this excellent conversation edited and released. Even though the conversation certainly has nothing to do with Palestine directly, as I was finalizing the edit for this episode, it was interesting to think in this moment about the demonization of student protesters, the notion that student encampments have been somehow been infiltrated by so-called “terrorists” who are poisoning their minds with radical islam, teaching them anti-semitic rhetoric, and guerrilla warfare tactics. Certainly this has many of the hallmarks of a moral panic. And there are others we discuss in the show the panic around schools teaching sex education, the dangers of drag balls, or concerns about transgender kids in sports. It is important to be able to recognize attempts to manufacture panics, and to think critically about how we respond to these multifaceted propaganda efforts. We have a really special episode for you today. Sagi has been temporarily banished, and we replaced him with the absolutely brilliant Alicia. Our cultural object this time around looks at the way Zoomers (Gen Z) relate to to sex. Some people claim they are not having enough of it, and some Zoomers claim that sex scenes in movies are non-consensual invasions of their innocence. Throughout the episode, we assert the impossibility of treating sex as an act without boundaries, transgression, and intrusion.Alicia wrote an entire dissertation, or at the very least an entire chapter, on this topic--and she argues that the new moralization around the prevalence of non-consensual sex has created its very own object: sexless sex. According to her, this sexless sex is even more transgressive and violent than the sex being condemned by the moral outrage. You really need to listen to this episode to catch all the nuances of this discussion!

Warning: Explicit Conversations About Politics, Culture, & Sexuality Brilliant progressive journalist JoAnn Wypijewski and beautiful British FemDom Mistress Courtney join me for my Sweet 16th Bedside Chat of the Coronapocalypse, sharing great insight, passion, erotic exploration and sexual revelation. JoAnn's remarkable new book, What We Don't Talk About When We Talk About #MeToo: Essays on Sex, Authority and the Mess of Life, is the springboard for a very stimulating discussion of the #MeToo Reckoning, sex scandal, “sex panic,” Satanic panic, “poisoned solidarity” in social media, the Harvey Weinstein trial, Woody Allen, Ron Jeremy, a trip through time back to the horrors of Abu Ghraib and more. Then the stunning, stylish and pleasingly sadistic Mistress Courtney zooms in from her luxurious London dungeon to deliver some wicked whipping, sensuous foot teasing, “human furniture” play and FemDom philosophy that could teach #MeToo a thing or two about how to put naughty men in their “proper” place. We also talk about tRump's nepotistic pardon of his jackboot-licking pal, Roger Stone—a vivid embarrassment to decent swingers, cuckolds and hat lovers everywhere—and we really should free Chelsea Manning, Julian Assange and many others unjustly languishing in the long-term chokehold of the Prison Industrial Complex, plus last week's momentous, progressive Supreme Court rulings, and the Bonobo Way of Female Empowerment, Male Well-Being and Peace through Pleasure. #GoBonobos for Love! The expression of human sexuality, and the freedom to have sex with whomever we desire, was a defining quality in the early gay-rights movement, pre-AIDS. How things have changed, and yet, how some things have become worse.Where did this fear of sex start and what is “Sex Panic”?In the queer community, Sex Panic!, was a sexual activism group founded in New York City in 1997:The group characterized itself as a "pro-queer, pro-feminist, anti-racist direct action group" campaigning for sexual freedom in the age of AIDS. It was founded to oppose both mainstream political measures to control sex, and elements within the gay community who advocated same-sex marriage and the restriction of public sexual culture as solutions to the HIV crisis. The group has been depicted as a faction in a gay "culture war" of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. – SourceAs long as we’ve had dogmatic religions there has been sex panic for the simple reasons that sex is fun, liberating, and a basic human behaviour. Sex is a form of creative physical expression that frees the mind, body, and soul to see beauty in the moment. Sex, when fully realized, is a sensual experience, one that involves all of our senses and something that scares the bejesus (pun intended) out of Fundamentalists and Evangelicals.Come to Jesus…I’ve often wondered why people scream during sex, “Oh GOD! OH MY GOD I’m cumming…!” Doesn’t it seem that sex would bring us closer to god, rather than push us away? The problem is not having or feeling a connection with “spirt” or your higher self in the moment of sexual ecstasy. Rather, religious doctrines (taken too literally, and religious texts that have been too secularized) seek to control and suppress sensuality; the innate connection with nature we are all born with. Many religions demonize sexWhy? Because sexual freedom fosters creativity and free thinking.“It should come as no surprise that religious and cultural conservatives view joy, celebration, ecstasy, and exuberance as degenerate. For in their view, they are right: gay spirit undermines patriarchal power structures.” – Raymond L. Rigolisoso, Gay Men and The New Way ForwardSex Panic is an ideologically-based suppression of our basic human need for touch, intimacy, and sex – an absolute denial of that which makes us human. As queers we can invite humanity to let go of ego and ideologies and experience the sensuality of beauty, to recognize that beauty is natural, that beauty is found in the natural world, and that we as humans come from nature.Somebody Please Think of the ChildrenThe logical fallacy, "Think of the children”, can be seen in the misguided actions of the Ontario PC Party’s move to repeal the Ontario sex-ed curriculum back to the dark ages.Concerned parents, limited by dogma and ideological thinking, tell you they are only concerned with protecting their children. But from what, exactly? The debate about sex-ed needs not be based on the manipulation of emotions and the worthlessness of a logical fallacy. Of course we should care about the children, BUT we should care about ALL children:“The existence of gay and lesbian parents is a fact, not ideology. Proponents of anti-gay laws may be trying to 'save the children,' but the ultimate effect of such laws is to harm the physical and psychological well-being of millions of children currently raised by loving GLBT parents.” – SourceFuck it!
