In this episode, Chris sits down with Dr. Nicole Cain, a trauma-informed clinical psychologist, naturopathic physician, and author of Panic Proof, to talk about something most real estate investors never discuss: how unresolved stress and trauma show up in the body and directly impact your ability to build a business. Whether it was the 2008 crash, a loss, or years of financial pressure, the nervous system keeps score, and it will keep reenacting those events until they are resolved. Dr. Cain breaks down the difference between fear, anxiety, and panic, explains why your symptoms are not the problem but a message, and walks through nine distinct types of anxiety that most conventional medicine misses entirely. From gut anxiety to trauma anxiety to hormonal and immune-driven responses, this conversation gives you a framework to actually understand what is happening in your body and what to do about it. If you have been learning, preparing, and still not taking action in your business, this episode may explain exactly why. Let's talk about making America healthy again.
Send us Fan MailThis week, I'm joined by Dr. Nicole Cain for a conversation about anxiety, panic, stress, and what our symptoms might be trying to tell us. We talk about the difference between fear, anxiety, and panic, why anxiety may be more of a signal than a problem, and how chronic stress can quietly build beneath the surface long before we recognize it. Dr. Nicole shares her perspective on complex trauma, nervous system regulation, and the ways modern life constantly pulls us into reactivity without us even realizing it. We also explore why awareness is often the first step toward healing, how nature can help bring us back into balance, and why anxiety isn't necessarily something you have to live with forever.Check out Dr. Nicole's Free Gifts here: https://drnicolecain.com/free-gifts/KEY TAKEAWAYS: Anxiety may be a signal rather than the problem itself Panic often builds long before it feels like it comes out of nowhere Chronic stress can become invisible when it feels normal Complex trauma develops through repeated experiences over time Nature and nervous system regulation can support healingABOUT GUEST:Dr. Nicole Cain is a naturopathic physician, EMDR-trained clinician, author, and expert in trauma-informed mental health care, holistic anxiety treatment, and panic recovery. What if healing could begin with simply slowing down, breathing deeply, and spending time in nature?
In this episode of the MindHealth360 Show, I join Dr. Nicole Cain and Hadlee Garrison for a powerful conversation on trauma, nervous system regulation, whole-person mental health and the role AI may play in the future of healing. Together, we explore the growing disconnect between the privileged wellness culture, and the realities of war, displacement, chronic stress and social isolation – and why community, purpose and human connection remain essential foundations of mental wellbeing. I share how my own experience with postpartum depression led me to create MindHealth360 and champion a root-cause approach to mental health that looks beyond symptoms to the biochemical, psychospiritual and lifestyle drivers of suffering. The conversation explores why trauma can shape both biology and behaviour across generations, why modern mental healthcare often overlooks the whole person, and how integrative approaches may help restore regulation, resilience and connection. We also dive into the future of AI in mental health – from its potential to process complex health data and support emotional reflection, to the risks of dehumanisation, dependency and disconnection. And we explore whether technology can actually help us to become more human, more connected and more emotionally regulated – one nervous system at a time? In this episode, you'll learn: Why community, purpose and education are described as core pillars of mental health. How trauma and chronic stress can dysregulate the nervous system and impact future generations. Why mental healthcare must move beyond symptom management to address root causes. How integrative mental health approaches combine biochemical, psychological, lifestyle and spiritual factors. Why AI may become both a powerful therapeutic tool and a potential mental health risk. How "othering" and dehumanisation contribute to conflict, division and emotional dysregulation. Why nervous system regulation may be one of the most important foundations for healing – individually and collectively.
You're eating well and exercising, trying to stay positive, and holding everything together. Yet somehow, you still feel anxious, overstimulated, exhausted, or emotionally on edge. If that sounds familiar, this episode is for you. In Episode 262. Doing All the Right Things… and Still Feeling On Edge, I sit down with Dr. Nicole Cain to talk about why anxiety often changes during midlife and why it's rarely "just stress." Together, we explore the deeper connection between hormones, gut health, nervous system regulation, emotional patterns, chronic overwhelm, and the body's stress responses. Dr. Nicole explains how the body communicates through symptoms like muscle tension, racing thoughts, digestive issues, fatigue, hypervigilance, and exhaustion. We also talk about why so many women stop trusting their bodies during midlife. Instead of listening to the signals, we often move into fear, frustration, or the need to fix ourselves constantly. This conversation offers a different approach. Dr. Nicole shares simple and practical tools to help calm the nervous system and rebuild body trust. We discuss grounding, breathwork, havening, body awareness, and how to become more present without judgment or overwhelm. One of the most powerful reminders in this episode is that your body is not working against you. Your symptoms may actually be guiding you toward what needs healing. This episode is compassionate, validating, and full of insight for any woman who feels like she's trying so hard yet still not herself. ✨ Listen now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, or wherever you get your podcasts — and keep pursuing your spark. What if lasting transformation has less to do with willpower… and more to do with self-worth? ✨ In this episode, we connect with Melissa Vogel, who brings a unique, mindset-focused approach to coaching — helping clients break through the mental and emotional barriers that stand between them and lasting physical change. We talked about the connection between mental and physical healing, learning to love the process, and why you can't heal a body you hate. We explore: • Mindset shifts for lasting change • Healing old beliefs and shame • The “bus analogy” for understanding different parts of yourself • Why community and self-compassion matter so much This conversation is honest, empowering, and deeply healing.
Are we losing the human element in mental health? In this week's episode, we sit down with Kirkland Newman, Executive Director of IMMH and founder of the Horizon Foundation, to bridge the gap between global trauma and individual healing. From the staggering statistics of global displacement to the "man-made" stress of modern life, we explore why community, purpose, and education are the three fundamental pillars of our mental wellbeing. We're diving into: The Roots of Trauma: How events like the Holocaust and global conflicts impact biochemistry across generations. The Future of AI: Can a "soul-sucking robot" actually help us stay human and regulate our nervous systems? Whole-Person Healing: Moving beyond symptoms to address the biochemical, psycho-spiritual, and lifestyle root causes of the mental health crisis. It's time to stop othering and start rehumanizing. Anxiety doesn't always start with thoughts — sometimes it starts in the body. And for many adults, that's why traditional advice like “just think positive” or “calm down” doesn't work.In this episode of Normalize The Conversation, Dr. Nicole Cain joins us to explore what anxiety, panic, and emotional overwhelm look like when they're driven by the nervous system rather than the mind. We talk about why so many adults feel dismissed in healthcare settings, why symptoms can feel confusing or uncontrollable, and how people-pleasing and fawning responses often develop as survival strategies — especially in relationships and high-stress environments.Dr. Cain breaks down the limitations of the chemical imbalance theory and explains why anxiety, panic, and even depression can be connected to things like chronic stress, unresolved trauma, nutrient deficiencies, inflammation, and nervous system dysregulation. This episode offers language, clarity, and compassion for anyone who has felt like their body is reacting “for no reason.”Together, we discuss:Why anxiety can feel physical before it feels emotionalThe fawn response and how it impacts adult relationships and self-advocacyWhy many adults feel worse after cycling through medicationsHow iron, vitamin D, and other deficiencies can mimic anxietyWhat questions to ask doctors when you feel unheardA simple body-based technique to calm the nervous system in real timeThis episode is for adults who want answers, not quick fixes — and for anyone learning to listen to their body with curiosity instead of fear.
Are we missing the "front door" to our children's wellness?
In our latest episode, we sit down with Dr. Leslie Korn to discuss the urgent need for a more humane and equitable approach to wellness. With years of experience navigating healthcare in both the U.S. and Mexico, Dr. Korn brings a powerful perspective on why our current model is failing and—more importantly—how we can fix it. Highlights from Dr. Korn: A Call for Compassion: Why we must shift toward "humane" models of care that prioritize the patient over the process. The Social Connection: Addressing the "social determinants" of health—like food security and poverty—to truly tackle the mental health crisis. Accessible Nutrition: A look at simple, effective interventions (like Vitamin D and Omega-3s) that should be available to everyone as a public health right. Collaborative Care: Why integrating bodywork and traditional holistic practices into clinics is the key to managing chronic pain and mental wellness. "I have no more patience for it personally," Dr. Korn shares regarding the current system's inequities. It is time to bridge the gap between social justice and holistic health.
Is the healthcare system really designed to keep us healthy? In this episode of the Holistic Inner Balance Podcast, we examine the dysfunction within the modern healthcare system and explore a different path forward: focusing on root cause healing instead of symptom management. You'll learn about: • The concept of green allopathy and why it may still miss the root cause • Why Americans spend over $15,000 per person on healthcare • How lifestyle, food, and environment influence long-term wellness • Simple ways to move closer to nature and support the body's healing capacity Instead of relying on quick fixes or expensive biohacking trends, this conversation highlights the power of small daily habits, health literacy, and strong community. If you're looking for a more natural and empowered approach to wellness, this episode is for you. Additional Resources:

In this episode I'm excited to introduce you to Dr. Nicole Cain. She is a naturopathic doctor and author of a book called "Panic Proof: The New Holistic Solution to End Your Anxiety Forever", which is helping people understand anxiety and panic and emotional wellness, with tools available beyond what people might be hearing in standard mental health clinics. Dr. Nicole shares what drew her into this work. She talks about hitting her rock bottom moment, which so many people experience. It's that fork in the road where someone asks themselves if this is their story or if it's going to be something different. Her rock bottom moment involved continual trauma and panic and anxiety that was so somatically based in her body. It was like burning in her chest, restlessness, and involuntary muscle spasms in her arms. She wasn't sleeping, lost so much weight, and stopped having her period. She had to decide if this was her story or if it was going to be something different. Thank goodness she was able to find her way through that and discovered some really helpful tools and techniques. She got excited to share that with her patients, and they started getting better results. She started sharing it with her community, working with other counselors and doctors, and they started getting better results too. Then she started to look at the research, and it was supporting these discoveries. Now she's helping people who have tried everything to address anxiety and they are feeling hopeless. She wants people to know there is hope. There are great helpers out there to support people and provide resources. We're here to help you! Panic doesn't mean you're broken. It means your body is sending a message you haven't yet learned to translate. In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Nicole Cain, a licensed naturopathic physician and integrative mental-health expert, to explore how panic, anxiety, and chronic stress are not enemies to fight but signals guiding us toward healing. Nicole shares her story of collapsing under the weight of perfectionism and control, and how rebuilding from rock bottom led her to write Panic Proof, a book that reframes anxiety as data, not dysfunction.Nicole also unpacks her red-yellow-green light system for emotional awareness, the nine distinct types of anxiety, and the powerful role of the body in memory, trauma, and recovery. You'll hear how EMDR and somatic reprogramming can literally rewire fear, how curiosity becomes the antidote to panic, and why removing the “obstacles to cure” might be the most overlooked key to long-term health."Our symptoms are data about what needs healing. Our symptoms are stuck adaptations to what did happen to you and what didn't happen to you." - Dr. Nicole CainSupport the show and get 50% off MCT oil with free shipping—just leave us a review on iTunes and let us know!https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/live-beyond-the-norms/id1714886566 Mentioned In This Episode:- Panic Proof Book: https://www.panicproof.com/book - Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/holistic-inner-balance-natural-mental-health-podcast/id1506869161 About Dr. Nicole Cain:Dr. Nicole Cain is an integrative mental-health doctor, author, and educator specializing in trauma-informed care and holistic treatment for anxiety, panic, bipolar disorder, and depression. We've been told stress will kill us. That we need to yoga-breathe it away, book a retreat, or stuff it down with a pint of Ben & Jerry's (using your car key as a spoon… iykyk). But what if stress isn't the villain? What if it's actually the fuel for our best work? This week, we're joined by Dr. Rebecca Heiss — a stress physiologist, researcher, keynote speaker, and author of Springboard: Transform Stress to Work for You. She's also the creator of the Fearless Stress Formula and has been recognized by the National Science Foundation for her groundbreaking research. Her mission? To help us stop fearing fear, stop fighting stress, and instead transform both into fuel for growth, performance, and purpose. Rebecca brings her science background together with real talk and humor, making the hard stuff (like stress) not only make sense but feel doable. She's passionate about helping women shift out of survival mode and into a place of clarity, confidence, and community. Together, we dive into why stress isn't something to eliminate but energy we can reframe, channel, and actually use to show up stronger. We explore: Why your “effortless, overwhelmed” game isn't working The three steps to stop fighting stress and start using it How to “invite the tiger to tea” (yes, really) Why service and community are the real antidote to overwhelm The competitive advantage women have when it comes to stress Because friend, stress isn't proof you're broken. It's proof you care. And when you learn to use it, it becomes your edge.
