It is the Year 3000 and something. Humans now live in space and have evolved to photosynthesise for most of their energy needs. Similiarly to how Skynet is the enemy of the Anime Freshmen, gigantic alien creatures called Gauna have for some reason decided to 'on sight' what remains of the human race. A Mecha anime with some rather, interesting, turns throughout. Skynet, you did it again. Every effort is made to keep spoilers to a minimum. I hope you will join us today for round two on TIME. In our first episode, we explored the myth of time and why it is that we feel as though we don't have enough. Today, we are digging deeper. Ever wonder what's eating up your time? Or how you could actually make more of it? That is what we are exploring in todays episode. What if there were things that were costing you time? What if there were things that you did, that created time? How much time we actually have is the important question and if we can identify the things that cost us time and minimized and/or eliminated them we would have more time. Right? Similiarly if we can identify the things that create time and increase and optimize that we would have more time. Right? If we did both, we would have more time. And what if there was a way to compound time, so that it truly feels as though we had an abundance - more than enough of time. I couldn't help but create a part 2 as I didn't get to everything I wanted to share in the first episode called - you don't have a time problem. If you find yourself frantic around time, and never feeling like you have enough, join me for this episode. I promise it will be an invest of your time. See you there. Join me today to discover the transformational truths of our lives. We are going to be Selfologists today? So what do I mean by selfology? Selfology is the Study of Self. Only when you get crystal clear about who you are can you transform your life. How can you improve your "self" if you don t know yourself? When you know who you are, you know what to do. Similiarly when you don't you will find yourself in confusion, in not knowing, indecisive, and frustrated. It s only when you know who you are that you can unlock the power within. The power is tapping into your mind. It is in the knowing that the problem that you think is the problem is not actually the problem. There are 4 Areas of Self that when questioned, and observed facilitate the creation of the results in your life, the manifestation of your BEST SELF. All areas of self are founded on the common notion that we operate from a place of sincere unconditional love and acceptance of where we are and leverage the power of our minds to transform our reality. Similiarly to the First Round review, Andy and Nick just go over why teams lost and won this round and even give some dialogue on where some teams who were eliminated go from here. Andy and Nick also take the time to discuss the short comings of the Carolina Hurricanes in depth.
In this second of a four-part series on bluffing, we discuss 3-bet bluffing pre-flop. Similiarly to our previous episode, this is almost a misnomer because we don't advocate playing absolute trash, and certainly not pre-flop. Instead, we focus the conversation on how people tend to not 3-bet enough and when, where, and why to expand your 3-bet ranges. Welcome to Woman Leadership show. I'm Janet and in this episode, I will be sharing with you You may heard about this quote by Joan Collin that that age is a number no matter what age we are at and someone recently told me that anyone who said that is usually older ones and not younger ones as we do not feel it when we were younger that we are aging. Age is just a number implies age as having no boundaries or limitations. It literally means you are never too old, age is just a number, and should not stop you doing the things that you may think you're too old to achieve or participate in.In my 20s, an ex teacher shared with us that it was important to look after our skin and health otherwise it will show otherwise in older age. Similiarly my mum will also been nagging to me to look after everything from skin , health and the food we eat , things we use such as lipstick do not eat it and clean before we ear and many others so we will not get all the sickness when older. I heard many stories that younger ones are having diabetes, high blood pressure and passed on as early as early 20s. In younger days, I took many things for granted that I have the youth and it seems far away that I gets older one day so I did not really take care of my skin except going for monthly facial. I seldom put on sunblock and keep my routine very simple without much care. Many used to say I am blessed with good skin especially I do not really have a routine. Now I can see the effects such as wrinkles, pigmentation, uneven tone all showing up and I regret not taking care of my skin when younger. Now I will remind my children to care for their skin especially from the sun as it can cause permanent damage which takes long time to minimize it. In my 30s, though I was having 3 young kids below 6 years old, that's where while iw as travelling for work but attending external programs while taking care of three young children. I have ex colleagues thinking that I was single or no children as I was very active in work events and do not come across as someone who will need to go home after work and still available to go out on Friday evenings with them. To me, I think is important to have other social activities while still ensuring I was there for my children during weekends. In my 40s, though I am experienced but I get to learn new things which younger generation are good at such as digital marketing, technology and using ways to present dashboard as they are more tech savvy compared to me. It is important to be humble to learn and be adapatbel to learn so nto be lagging behind technology and not able to catch up eventually and left behind. TakeawayLook after our skin and health from young, habits start from young and later into adult life. Yes it is not too late to change once we know and start making changes to change our old habits so we can look and feel better. It is never too late to learn whatever age we are, we may feel too old when we attend some programs but lifelong learning keep us updated and fulfilled. My grandmother continue to learn even at the age of 93 where she will learn to read English newspaper and what we teach her. I have heard of some who even use facebook at age 80 years old. When I left my corporate job and took a break to spend time with my late mum and also to think about what would be the next step, I felt that I might be too old to start all over again should I want to do online marketing and sales and can only go back to corporate to do what I have been familiar with. I took the leap of faith and courage to be humble and learn as much as I can and not afraid to be laughed at for not knowing. I learned from my children too everyday and learn from them . I hope that through my sharing, it draws inspiration and personal reflection for you. I believe every woman can be a leader in your own way. I look forward to seeing you in my next episode where I will be sharing with you tips and ways to realize your full potential as a leader on Woman Leadership.
In this Podcast we continue our deconstruction, decoding and deciphering of the key financial statements. Last episode we dug into the Income Statement. I hope you found that insightful. If you haven’t heard it yet no worries, check it out when we finish here! This Episode is about the STATEMENT OF CASH FLOWS. The third and final Financial Report you should be reviewing monthly. To begin, let’s make sure your accountant is providing this report to you. I have found that the CASH FLOW STATEMENT is not always included in the monthly reports, but can be added simply by requesting it. And as you will learn here, this is an important report to review! In fact, it could be the most important report, since CASH is least subject to estimates and assumptions and critical to keep your business afloat. In each of the three financial statements we have studied, there is a measure, or indicator, of business performance; In the Balance Sheet we have Owner’s Equity, or Retained Earnings. In the Income Statement we have Net Profit, And in the Statement of Cash Flow we have Operating Cash! Remember Profit is NOT Cash! Profit is a PROMISE, and contains estimates, assumptions, and adjustments, not MONEY coming in! You need Cold Hard Cash to pay yourself and your employees, buy supplies along with investing in equipment! CASH is a Reality Check! PROFIT is VANITY! So you might be saying to yourself, “Who cares anyway, who watches CASH?” Well…Only the most successful investor of all time….WARREN #BUFFETT!! Warren Buffett , along with his business partner, Charlie Munger, know all too well that the INCOME STATEMENT and BALANCE SHEET can contain all sorts of estimates, assumptions and biases that can distort their information. CASH is different. With CASH you are indirectly examining the Bank Account of the Firm. CASH is the number least affected and influenced by the Art of Finance. CASH is a reality check. PROFITS do not equal CASH! PROFITS aren’t REAL MONEY. CASH IS! EXPENSES on the INCOME STATEMENT do not reflect the CASH going out. The CASH FLOW STATEMENT, by comparison, always tracts CASH in and CASH out during a time period. Remember all that equipment you bought at the end of the year using up your Section 179 deduction because the sales rep told you it was “deductible” and would save you taxes. Those payments don’t appear anywhere on the income statement. Rather they appear, slowly overtime, month by month, as a DEPRECIATION EXPENSE on the INCOME STATEMENT. The kicker is… those ITEMS are paid for with CASH long before they have been fully depreciated! This CASH outflow appears on the CASH FLOW STATEMENT. With this in mind, remember that while CASH is KING, CASH FLOW is the QUEEN! A business can generate PROFITS without CASH, on the flip side a business can also generate CASH without PROFIT. PROFIT without CASH, is how most small businesses go out of business in their first year. It’s why new restaurants have a hard time gaining traction…they simply run out of CASH and are forced to close. Their expenses outstrip all their cash, and it’s cash that’s required to keep the doors open. Alternatively, a business generating CASH but no PROFIT is not sustainable for the long term. Eventually the lack of profits will catch up and cause a non-profitable business to run out of CASH. Alas, all is not lost. Finding the right expertise can help. A firm running out of cash needs FINANCIAL Expertise, while an unprofitable firm needs Operational Expertise to help lower expenses and/or generate additional revenue. Bottom line is…. a healthy business requires both PROFIT and CASH to maintain financial health. Let’s Dive In and Dissect and Deconstruct a STATEMENT of CASH FLOW. This Financial Report is divided into 3 categories: CASH coming IN is (+), and CASH going OUT is (-). CASH used in OPERATING ACTIVITIES: Which is all cash related to the actual operations of the business. It Includes cash from customers, cash for salaries, vendors, rent, and taxes to name a few. CASH used in INVESTING ACTIVITIES: Which is all cash related to investments made by the company, such as the purchase of capital equipment. CASH used in FINANCING ACTIVITIES: Which is all cash related to borrowing and paying back of loans, as well as the purchase or sale of stock ,or payment of dividends to shareholders. One can see there is lots of useful information here! We won’t worry about how this report is generated. We will leave those details for your accountant. We will just look at the prepared report. The FIRST CATEGORY, OPERATING ACTIVITIES Is one of the most important numbers in all of the financial statements we have examined. It indicates the Health of a Business. A company with consistently healthy operating cash flow is probably profitable, and probably doing a good job turning their profits into cash. With healthy Operating Cash flow a company can finance more of its growth internally without borrowing. The SECOND CATEGORY, INVESTING ACTIVITY Shows how much the company is spending on assets to grow the business. The THIRD CATEGORY, FINANCING ACTIVITY Shows the borrowing and paying back of loans and dividend payments to shareholders. What does all of this mean? Understanding the POWER of CASH FLOW and how to manage it can strengthen your business in several ways; First, you must understand where the money is coming from and where it is going to. A strong operating cash flow means the business is generating cash. Paying down loans and investing in assets creates negative Investing cash flows which can be very favorable to the long term growth of a business. Selling stock and raising money from shareholders generates positive Financing cash flow which may be a great sign, or it could mean the company is selling stock or taking out debt as a means to stay afloat! Second, you can directly affect your cash by closely managing your Accounts Receivables, Inventory and Expenses. Learn to study the Aging of your receivables and calculate and tract your ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLES RATIO which is your Accounts Receivables / Average monthly production. Aim to have this ratio less than one, which means your Accounts Receivables should not exceed your average monthly production. Develop systems to speed the collection of your accounts receivables and you can immediately generate additional positive cash flow. Receivables are the same as giving your customers interest free loans on their balances! The longer it takes to collect your money, the less of it you will have. You should have very few accounts that exceed 90 days! Similiarly, work to reduce the stock piling of Inventory which uses up your CASH! The quantity discounts suppliers offer may not be saving you money in the long term since holding Inventory and Supplies on your shelfs cost CASH, especially if these supplies expire! I like to remind doctors when they look at all of their inventory and supplies they should be seeing dollars and cents that could be in the bank or in their pockets rather than sitting on their shelfs! Tighten up your Expenses too. Negotiate more favorable payment terms with your Vendors. Extend out your Accounts Payable, the money You owe your Suppliers. For you, extended payment terms is just like a free loan from your vendor and who doesn’t like FREE! Evaluate carefully the strategy of prepaying months of rent expense at the end of the year. I know that many doctors are told to do this. This quickly depletes your cash reserve. Tax planning is critical here so consultation with your Tax Professional is essential, but Taxes should not “Wag the Dog!”. Go ahead and take this cash as salary, pay your individual taxes and then use this additional cash to grow your personal Balance Sheet. Finally, we spoke earlier of a key metric used by Warren Buffett. This metric is “Owner’s Earnings” or “Free Cash Flow”. It is the difference between Operating Cash flow and net Capital Expenditures. Both of these values come from the Cash Flow Statement. Operating Cash Flow is the Total from the top section of the Statement. Net Capital Expenditures can be found as a line item in the Middle Section, the Investing Section, listed as Property, Plant and Equipment. Companies with healthy Free Cash Flow have many more options to grow, expand operations, invest in equipment, pay down debt and pay dividends to shareholders. In a dental practice, those shareholders are very likely to be the doctor-owners of the practice! In Summary , our key take away points are: Cash is NOT subject to the estimates and assumptions present in the Balance Sheet and Income Statement. Profit is NOT CASH. You can’t pay bills or payroll with profits! Healthy Positive CASH FLOW is essential for the long term sustainability and liquidity of a company. CASH flow can be improved by accelerating the collection of outstanding Account Receivables, minimizing the accumulation of excess inventory and closely monitoring the timing of Expenses. So that wraps things up for this Podcast. Hopefully you have a better understanding of the mechanics of the STATEMENT OF CASH FLOWS. Evidence of Alexander the Great's rule are still visible in India. However, the Greek community is scattered throughout the country, with little means of intercommunication. Similiarly in Kazakhstan, the 12,000 Greek expatriates struggle to maintain an ethnic identity - Αν και η ιστορία χωρών της Ασίας, όπως η Ινδία και το Καζακστάν, έχει χαραχθεί από το ελληνικό στοιχείο, ο αριθμός των ομογενών και οι δίαυλοι επικοινωνίας μεταξύ τους συρρικνώνονται χρόνο με το χρόνο. Welcome to MR the podcast for beginners and insiders about the ideas, people and movements who have shaped rhetorical history It’s the start of another semester, which, for me, means a season of wonder. I wonder about who my students will be. I wonder whether my schedule will be crushingly busy. Mostly, though, I wonder how my students will react to the syllabi and assignments that I have lovingly crafted. Will they understand the instructions? Will they learn what I hope they will? Will they find it meaningful? Many compositionists have wondered these same questions and have argued about what kinds of assignments are best for students--digital or analog? Open-ended or directed? Reflective or projective? The authors of the Meaningful Writing Project,Michele Eodice, Anne Ellen Geller, Neal Lerner , had similar questions. But instead of pontificating, they just asked the students themselves. And, boy howdy, did they! They surveyed students at a varied of schools--big state, small private, research and community college--and asked them which (if any) of their writing projects had been the most “meaningful” for them. What they found surprised them, and it surprised me too. The researchers were expecting on finding a small cohort of “meaningful project” professors who had skillfully crafted assignments that were more meaningful to their students, but instead they found that the meaningful projects were scattered across instructors. Some of the instructors were veterans, some were novices; some were full professors and some were adjuncts. There weren’t clear patterns in who assigned meaningful projects. There was also no pattern on where these meaning projects were taking place. Meaningful writing projects occurred in big classes and small, required courses and capstones and in no courses at all. This might seem like a null result--what can we say about meaningful writing projects if any sort of instructor can assign them in any sort of class? Again, the answer is in listening to the students. The authors found that these projects focus on the past (students' personal connection and previous experience) and the future (application to the students' sense of their future selves). These projects recognize that education doesn’t happen in discrete modules, but builds upon past lived experience and anticipates the classes, jobs and lifestyles students will eventually enter. Almost 70% of the students in the study said that the writing project was related to what they expect to do in the future, usually related to their prospective jobs (41). They said things like “”As a teacher, I must write lesson plans that are creative,” “As a physician assistant I will have to write referral letters,” and “As a career artist I..must be able to write about my work when I submit it to juried exhibitions” (41). Recognizing connections to their future lives envigorates writing for these students. The past also matters, even when the comparison to the past was uneven. One participant, Leah, described her previous writing experience as “neutral.” Leah also gave a good insight into the importance of choice in writing projects. The authors note that the “balance between allow and require once again seems key…[because] Leah’s experiences up tot his point were too close to the require end o the continuum with not enough allow” (48). Accordingly, student choice means a lot--encouraging students to delve into personal interest and to feel "invited and encouraged" (133). This is always a hard balance for me too--do I let my students choose to write on whatever topic they want, assuming that they will write with more passion about the topic of their choice? Or do they not have any particular passion yet, and fall back on standard fare: gun control, abortion, illegal immigration. Similiarly, do they lack the content knowledge to know how to approach that topic and will falter, unable to come up with a meaningful area of research? It’s not enough just to dump novice students into it--”You decide what to write and how to write it,” sounds like agency, but it also sounds like neglect. Instead, the authors say we teachers can “intentionally build optimal conditions for agency to emerge” like directing students to make use of the skills and thoughts that they have developed in and out of the class (53). That’s kind of a big deal, not just for a student’s writing ability, but for their developing sense of self. As the authors put it, the meaningful projects were "holistic--not merely about content or genre or process but also about mind and body, heart and head--and to act as a kind of mirror in which students see their pasts and futures, enabling them to map those on to their writing projects to make meaning" (107). It’s not overstating it to see these meaningful writing projects as meaningful experiences period. Certainly I remember some of the most meaningful projects of my undergraduate life--the time I wrote a platonic dialogue to explain Foucault’s theory for my theory class, the long honors thesis where I was able to pursuit my obsession with an obscure Steinbeck novel, the Shakespeare class that allowed me to delve deep into Renaissance concepts of madness. These weren’t just fun assignments, but projects that helped develop my sense of what mattered to me. But as I reflect on my undergraduate writing, I’m also impressed by the impact that non-required writing had on me. The sketches I wrote for my comedy group, the impassioned articles for the school opinion paper, the poetry and fiction that I was able to give readings of in the library auditorium. While the authors mention that some of the MWP took place without classrooms, teachers or grades (131) there’s not much discussion of those projects. Look, I know that I’m a writing nerd--otherwise I wouldn’t end up the host of a show called Mere Rhetoric--but in addition to designing assignments that might be meaningful to students, we can also nurture environments where meaningful writing can take place outside of our classes too.
In today's episode we're tackling how to eat healthy on a budget. Eating for fat loss or "going paleo/primal" does not have to be more expensive than the Standard American Diet. Can it be? Sure. But you can have a huge grocery budget on the Standard American Diet or you can have a small one. Similiarly, you can have a huge grocery budget on a Primal diet or you can have a small one. There are ways. You get what you look for. You can absolutely eat healthy on a budget. In this episode, we'll show you how. http://primalpotential.com/healthy-on-a-budget
