Vodafone Idea's Lifeline Vodafone Idea (Vi) received a major boost as the government converted ₹36,950 crore of spectrum dues into equity, reducing its statutory burden by 66% over three years. This frees up ₹40,000 crore in cash flow, easing Vi's liquidity crisis as it seeks ₹25,000 crore in bank funding. However, long-term challenges remain, with annual payments of ₹43,000 crore due between FY28-31. Without tariff hikes, Vi could require further government intervention, potentially making it a public-sector telecom operator. SEBI Cracks Down on Finfluencers India's market regulator SEBI is tightening oversight of financial influencers, especially those registered with AMFI, as part of a broader crackdown on misinformation. With help from Meta and Google, SEBI has removed 70,000 unregistered digital financial advisors. The issue is pressing—82% of social media-driven investors act on influencer advice, yet only 2% of these influencers are SEBI-registered. SEBI is exploring ways to increase the number of registered investment advisors while experts push for stricter monitoring of financial content. Telecom Expansion Faces Roadblocks Telecom firms warn of service disruptions as 13 states, including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, have yet to implement the Centre's 2024 Right of Way (RoW) rules. High municipal fees, multiple approval layers, and delays in clearances are stalling 4G and 5G rollouts. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is pushing for compliance, with a centralized RoW portal expected soon. The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) is urging swift action to prevent network congestion. These developments highlight India's evolving business landscape, with markets bracing for volatility, industries pivoting to new opportunities, and regulatory shifts shaping the investment and telecom sectors.

International energy provider Engie has announced its first Irish-based onshore renewable energy project, with Irish renewables specialist Astatine selected to build three new solar farms in Ireland in 2025. The new solar farms, located in Galway and Limerick, will have a combined installed capacity of 18-megawatt peak (MWp), allowing them to generate enough electricity to deliver clean, renewable, affordable energy to 4,100 homes. The solar farms in Dromsallagh (Limerick), Ardnadoman, and Rooaun (both Galway) are part of six projects awarded under last year's Renewable Energy Support Scheme (RESS, a Government initiative designed to promote the development of utility-scale renewable energy sources in Ireland). Dublin-based Astatine - along with TLI Group, which was also selected by Engie to be part of the project - will start building the initial three solar farms in January 2025, with the projects expected to be commissioned later in the year. Astatine specialises in industrial-scale renewable energy solutions that help organisations decarbonise their power, heat, and transport requirements. The company offers a range of technologies including rooftop and ground-mounted solar PV as well as industrial heat pumps that can reduce carbon emissions and operating costs. "We are proud and excited to have been selected by Engie to build the company's first onshore renewable energy project here in Ireland," said Tom Marren, co-founder and CEO of Astatine. "These new solar farms in Galway and Limerick will allow more than 4,000 local households to access renewable energy at a lower cost than traditional grid electricity," Mr Marren said. "Switching to solar power will also help to decarbonise these communities, reducing their greenhouse gas emissions and their reliance on fossil fuels. "Working with Engie on this project is another significant step on Ireland's decarbonisation journey and we can't wait to get started," Mr Marren added. As part of its sustainable development strategy, Engie will also establish a community benefit fund for each of the new solar farms in Galway and Limerick. This fund will allocate circa. €34,000 per year to support local communities, to be overseen by a dedicated fund manager in Ireland. Astatine is a leading Irish company specialising in industrial decarbonisation solutions for the power, heat, and transport sectors. With a commitment to reducing carbon emissions, Astatine offers innovative, turnkey solutions tailored to meet the unique needs of large energy users. From concept to completion, Astatine manages every stage of the project, ensuring seamless integration and maximum impact. Highfield Solar has secured project financing to fund the construction and operation of two additional Solar PV projects with a total capacity of 132 MWp. This milestone follows the financing of four other projects in Ireland, totalling 473 MWp. Since July 2021, Highfield Solar has secured over €400 million in cumulative debt funding for more than 600 MWp of solar projects in Ireland. Highfield Solar Limited, a joint venture between renewable energy developers ib vogt, Highfield Energy, and Aura Power, together with Coöperatieve Rabobank U.A., have successfully reached financial close for the 70 MWp Clonin North and 62 MWp North Arklow solar PV plants. Highfield Solar and Coöperatieve Rabobank U.A. have successfully continued their collaboration with this financing, having previously financed a portfolio of 473 MWp across four solar projects: Rathnaskilloge (106 MWp) and Gaskinstown (93 MWp) in December 2023, and Rosspile (138 MWp) and Gillinstown (136 MWp) in July 2021. Both the Clonin North and North Arklow projects were successful in the Government of Ireland's second competitive Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS 2) auction run by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications in 2022. The RESS auctions are designed to promote investment in renewable energy, supporting Ireland's goal of achieving 80% renewable electricity by 2030. Highfield Solar is proud to be contributing to this critical target on Ireland's path to decarbonisation. As part of the RESS scheme, local communities, clubs, and societies will benefit from approximately €100,000 in annual funding for the next 15 years. Matheson LLP supported Coöperatieve Rabobank U.A. through the transaction, and technical advice was provided by Krug & Schram. Further advice was also provided by Howden Group. Highfield was again supported by Mason Hayes and Curran LLP, Augustus Cullen Law and Crotty Group. "We are delighted Highfield Solar has reached this significant milestone and we are now looking forward to the continued roll-out of our portfolio. This is the result of years of planning and investment in these projects. We have enjoyed a very positive relationship with our partners in Highfield Solar, ib vogt, and Aura Power, and their experience and knowledge allied with our own has been invaluable. As a company founded in Ireland, we are hugely proud of our role in continuing to attract such significant investment into the country for renewable electricity generation projects. It is also very important to us that the establishment of the associated community benefit funds will make significant contributions to the locality over the next decade and beyond", says Peter Kavanagh, Managing Director of Highfield Energy. "The Clonin North and North Arklow projects mark an exciting new chapter in our successful joint venture, helping to build some of the largest solar plants in Ireland," said Anton Milner, CEO of ib vogt. "We are deeply grateful to our financing partners for their vital role in advancing clean, renewable energy across the country. These projects not only deliver significant ecological and economic benefits but also contribute to long-term, meaningful change for the local communities. With the support of the RESS scheme, we are optimistic about the future of solar energy in Ireland and the lasting positive impact it will bring." "The Irish solar market is now one of the most exciting in Europe and the scale of these projects is a testament to that. We look forward to seeing these projects reach energisation, along with many more in our development pipeline." says Simon Coulson, Director at Aura Power. Project Details With a total capacity of 70 MWp, the Clonin North solar PV plant will be located on a ca. 70-hectare site near the village of Rhode, County Offaly. The North Arklow site, with a capacity of 62MWp, will be located near the town of Arklow in County Wicklow. The projects will utilize high-capacity bifacial modules on fixed-til...

Kyle and Drew dive headfirst into their obsession with Arnold and Sly movies. This is no surprise to long-term MWP fans. We discuss whether or not it's possible for the environment and circumstances to create a similar era of dominance for action stars. Arnold and Sly's multi-decade runs, muscles, and over-the-top action were ushered in by the 80s, and elongated throughout the 90's(and a little 2000s in there too). Was this a case of the perfect stars for the perfect time, or could we see another star take the mantle of dominance? Please weigh in on our social media platforms: Instagram and TikTok.

Dr Patrice Motsepe, the founder and chairperson of diversified mining company African Rainbow Minerals (ARM), has expressed confidence in the direction being taken by South Africa's State transport enterprise Transnet. The executive head of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange-listed ARM is also confident in the direction he believes that State electricity utility Eskom will take. "I'm confident that the right things are being done with Transnet and I'm confident that the right things will be done with Eskom," Motsepe emphasised during question time at the ARM's latest presentation of dividend-yielding half-year financial results, covered by Mining Weekly. (Also watch attached Creamer Media video.) "We're pleased with Transnet's progress, and Eskom is crucial for our business as well, and we are hoping for an Eskom that, in the not too distant future, succeeds in providing the cheapest electricity, which will be good for industry. "But one other important point is that Eskom is crucial for South Africa's poor people and it's critically important that all of us work together to protect Eskom, and to make sure that Eskom is a world-class electricity company. But, in my view, the most important thing is that it serves the poor, who need electricity that is as cheap and as reliable as possible," said Motsepe. Regarding the emergence of independent power producers (IPPs) and their generation of mainly renewable electricity, he added: "The issue of the IPPs is in relation to the technology that has been developing which will have an impact on the competitiveness of utilities such as Eskom. "But the bottom line is that we all have to work together and make sure than Eskom is a competitive provider of electricity and the single most important issue for me in relation to Eskom is the poor. We should hope that Eskom should provide cheaper electricity for the benefit of the poor. "South Africans are compassionate people and you cannot have a successful mining industry without an improvement in the living conditions of poor people. "We've got to clearly understand that if electricity is expensive, it has an impact on our capacity to create jobs, it has an impact on the competitiveness of the mining industry. "Our focus, as a country, has to be that we will only succeed if poor, unemployed South Africans also have a future. You cannot have rich people and rich companies living side-by-side with poor people who are unemployed. "All of us only succeed when poor people and unemployed people have a future. We have a long-term duty and we are not judged by what we say but on how the unemployed, the poor, are impacted by what we do. "Many of the mining companies are retrenching because their businesses are under stress and I've got no doubt that every single one of those mining companies is looking at what they have to do in the context of their long-term commitment to their employees and to the country. "We sometimes do the most incomprehensible and inexplicable things and again, in the context of Eskom and Transnet, we have been doing the wrong things. "We now have to do the right things and I'm confident that the right things are being done with Transnet and I'm confident that the right things will also be done with Eskom," Motsepe emphasised. ARM's wide-ranging contribution to the development and upliftment of poor rural and urban communities in South Africa includes educating students from these communities. ARM also sponsors an endowment that will be invested in perpetuity to support research in the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment at the University of the Witwatersrand. It has also partnered with Stellenbosch University to establish a geometallurgy research chair. RENEWABLE ENERGY AND DECARBONISATION ARM is committed to confronting climate change accompanied by what it calls a just and a fair transition. On the renewable energy front, a 132 MWp ...

Volkswagen Group Africa (VWA), formerly Volkswagen Group South Africa, is investing R55-million to procure 3 MW in additional solar energy for its assembly plant in Kariega, in the Eastern Cape, says MD Martina Biene. The panels will be installed on the car ports in the employee car park. VWA production director Ulrich Schwabe says this means the local arm of the German vehicle maker will have 6.3 MWp in solar energy installed by the end of this year, in an investment totaling R89-million, across its facilities in Kariega, as well as in Centurion and Sandton, in Gauteng. "Our expectation is that, in 2024, we would have installed more than 6 MW," notes Schwabe. "This means that, around lunch time, we can cover 50% of our electricity needs in production. And this is just a first step." He notes that VWA has the ambition to become carbon neutral by 2030. Schwabe adds that VWA has also been forced to rent a backup diesel generator plant for the Kariega plant for the next two years, starting in March, with a capacity of 16 MW. This comes at an additional cost of R130-million, with the daily diesel costs for the generator carrying a R1.6-million price tag. The generator will provide power to the plant during loadshedding and other outage periods. VWA's plant is not exempt from loadshedding, and experiences it from level five and upwards. Schwabe says the generators are to provide security of energy supply when the sun is not shining, as well as at night. "Last year we were hit quite hard, with 23 shifts lost, or 11 production days. "As the now sole supplier of the Polo, our order book is completely full for the next two years. We can now securely run the plant for the next two years. This answers the trust the brand has given us. "It is not a cheap exercise, but it is much better than losing trust and not being a reliable supplier," says Schwabe. VWA currently produces the Polo and Polo Vivo for the local and export markets. Biene announced this week that VWA will become the sole supplier of the Polo to all global markets, except China, from June this year. "We have proven that we can do it, and this makes us very proud." VWA last year exported 101 557 Polos from Kariega - 3 500 more than in 2022. The expectation is that the Eastern Cape plant will see a 10 000-unit production increase this year on the back of the added Polo numbers.

Loneliness seems to be rampant and worldwide. Join us as we discuss the cure for loneliness with life coach, Jay, Julian, on this week's episode of MWP.
In the Week 6 recap/Week 7 preview, Kody, Josh, Dylan and Aaron debate inadvertent whistles, games with too many points, a case of close games and blowouts, and Grid Picks leaders. Napavine is back on track, W.F. West looks good, MWP is going to the Tri-Cities for some reason, and Rainier has a future as an eight-man team.
Watching "The Boondock Saints" was considered a dorm room initiation during Kyle, Drew, and Phil's college years. Highly requested by our listeners, "The Boondock Saints" possesses one of the most prolific cult followings in history. Its success was bolstered primarily by Blockbuster rentals. Although critics bashed the film, a lauded documentary titled "Overnight" received high marks for its portrayal of Troy Duffy; the highly volatile, rags-to-riches director who eventually found himself blacklisted for his uncouth approach to directing Harvey Weinstein's Diamond in the Rough. As for "Snatch," Guy Ritchie is the most requested director we've yet to cover. With his unique blend of violence, humor, and rapid-fire pacing, Guy Ritchie's style shines in "Snatch." With God on our side, the MWP crew slays the wicked war card, bare knuckles and all. As they hunt down and kill one notorious gangster after another, they become controversial folk heroes in the community. It was only a matter of time before the Movie Wars crew released an Arnold Vs. Arnold episode. Drew and Phil treated Kyle to cigars and Thai food for his birthday while we watched "Arnold" on Netflix. Needless to say, it was inspiring for us. We ditched "Mr. And Mrs. Smith" (which is a good match plotwise) for the ultimate Arnold fan matchup. By many standards and opinions, "True Lies" is considered to be Arnold's finest work, while "Eraser" marks the end of what film scholars believe to be Arnold's golden era which started with "Conan the Barbarian" in 1982. Often maligned, the MWP crew found a lot of joy in "Eraser" and the throughlines were too hard to ignore. Get erased and lie to your spouse about your career. Check out "True Lies" Vs. "Eraser." Help the crew make more shows and keep this operation going by supporting us on Patreon! Also, the easiest way to help MWP is sharing with your friends and on social media. Film SummariesEraserJohn "The Eraser" Kruger is the top gun in the US Marshall Witness Protection scheme; he erases their past and deals with their future. We are in full summer mode this week at the MWP! I've got updates on the road, thoughts on ice cream, and a summer rewind of one of my favorite conversations with one of my musical heroes. Also, Songs from the Story House and a new Dadvice. Let's go to the Story House with Steven Curtis Chapman!
In this episode of Altitude, Justin Payne, Senior Infrastructure Security Architect at Mueller Water Products (MWP), shares his firsthand experience of navigating the challenges posed by outdated hardware and limited resources while transitioning to the cloud. With an impressive three decades of IT expertise, Justin has been a dedicated member of the MWP team for the past ten years.MWP, founded over 160 years ago, is one of the largest manufacturers and distributors of fire hydrants, gate valves, and other water infrastructure products in North America. During the housing downfall in the late 2000s, MWP faced significant obstacles. Outdated hardware and resources hindered their ability to meet the company's growing demands, prompting their migration to AWS cloud. Justin has been at the forefront of cloud transformation, ensuring that MWP keeps up with advancements in cloud technology to maximize efficiency and drive growth.Learn more about Altitude and the host: https://aviatrix.com/altitude/ In this episode, Woody and Justin discuss:[00:03:19] Transitioning to AWS to improve agility[00:08:47] Adapting to cloud, challenges, and research[00:11:54] AWS setup challenged by limitations and security concerns[00:15:37] Cloud cost expectations vs reality, MWP's maturity, cost mitigation, cloud-first strategy [00:19:40] High cost of bringing in contractors with AWS expertise to bridge the skills gap, seeking the tools and talent to operate moving forward [00:22:23] Cloud security as a big concern due to lack of control and elevated permissions, creating a secure and efficient infrastructure with Aviatrix, MWP's zero trust environment with strict security measures[00:26:24] Relying solely on the Internet for IoT connectivity has proven to be insecure and unreliable; the use of private networks and VPNs as the preferred approach for IoT applications[00:31:24] What makes moving to the cloud worth it, maximizing product features quickly with AWS[00:34:21] Proactive maintenance saves time and money. To connect with Justin, head to his LinkedIn page: https://www.linkedin.com/in/justin-payne-57376b11/

Atlantis Foundries (AF) has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with integrated energy solutions company Energy Partners (EP). According to the agreement, EP will engineer, finance, construct and operate the ground-mounted solar-energy system at AF's production plant, comprising more than 20 000 solar panels and boasting a total rated capacity of 13.5 MWp. It will be the Western Cape's largest embedded generation solar project. EP CEO Manie de Waal says the PPA, set to kick off on May 1 next year, will provide AF with “a reliable electricity source at a substantially reduced cost over the next 20 years”. It will also align AF with growing environmental awareness in the automotive industry. “Opting for renewable energy is a significant step, and the system that we designed for AF is expected to save more than 22 000 t of carbon dioxide emissions annually - likely the highest reduction achieved in the South African automobile industry,” says De Waal. “In financial terms, the system will generate electricity worth more than R35-million per year at current average Eskom tariffs.” The system, which has been engineered to align with AF's electrical consumption profile, is estimated to replace up to 20% of its yearly electricity consumption. It will be integrated into AF's electrical network, which is connected to the City of Cape Town grid. Excess energy generated by the plant will be fed into the city's network through the feed-in programme, contributing to Cape Town's overall renewable energy capacity. “With this renewable energy generation project, we are setting new standards in the South African automotive industry and alleviating pressure on our constrained national grid,” says AF CEO Pieter du Plessis. “It is a result of extensive cooperation between the AF and EP teams, in conjunction with the Western Cape government and City of Cape Town.” The project sets the stage for future embedded generation systems exceeding 1 MW within Cape Town and the rest of the Western Cape. Atlantis Foundries produces automotive castings for the commercial vehicle industry.
