Bon Iver is the alias of Justin Vernon, who holds an unusual place in music as both a singer-songwriter in an acoustic idiom and a collaborator with the biggest stars in pop, including Taylor Swift, Charli XCX, and Kanye West. Bon Iver's new three-song EP, titled “SABLE,” is his first record of his own songs in more than five years. Vernon rarely gives interviews, so this is an extended version of his conversation with the staff writer Amanda Petrusich. They touched on the meaning of “sable,” a word that can refer to mourning and darkness. Vernon is not altogether comfortable with the acclaim he has received. “I'm not, like, famous on the street, People-magazine famous, but . . .  there's been a lot of accolades,” he tells Petrusich. “I was getting a lot of positive feedback for being heartbroken and having heartache and I've wondered . . . [if] maybe I'm pressing the bruise.”

I learn how IMPT empowers everyday consumers to make sustainable choices through their retail experiences, allowing them to earn free carbon credits. Denis emphasized the moral imperative for businesses to reduce their carbon footprint. He introduced the IMPT Retail Partnership Network, a strategic alliance aimed at cultivating a culture of eco-consciousness. The Planet's Loyalty Program, another IMPT innovation, not only incentivizes responsible consumption but also allows points to be exchanged for carbon credits, thus offering a twofold benefit. She has performed internationally with artists including former Music Life host Jorge Drexler. Matt Maltese's sweeping indie ballads have taken TikTok by storm, and led him to be described as "the UK's answer to Father John Misty". His track As the World Caves In has over 200 million streams on Spotify. UK singer-songwriter Birdy first shot to fame at the age of 14 with her cover of Bon Iver's track Skinny Love. She's since released four albums of her own magical indie folk, and her music has featured on the soundtrack of films such as The Hunger Games and The Fault In Our Stars.

This week's episode features special guest Angela, as we discuss Bon Iver. The music of Justin Vernon's project has been wrapped up in mythology, conjuring imagery of a man in the wilderness, removed from society and human connection, making an album wrought with deep suffering. In reality, 2007's For Emma, Forever Ago was made in a hunting cabin in Wisconsin -- a culmination of unfortunate struggles with band and romantic break ups, physical ailment, and gambling addiction. However it came to be, this album skyrocketed Vernon's career as an indie folk darling with mainstay Skinny Love. From there, an EP with a song that inspired Kanye West to write a song with Justin, feature him on multiple songs across three albums, and call him the other greatest living musician (besides Kayne, of course). The second album, Bon Iver, Bon Iver, a reflection on places and sense of place, is full of easy listening adult contemporary music, straight out of the late 80s. Holocene and Calgary were effective songs for Bon Iver, and after touring for years, Justin would go radio silent, not releasing an album for 5 years. Overwhelmed by the attention, he needed a break.
