Another insightful voice with the wonderfully articulate and fierce Diabetes Type 1 advocate Faye. Faye was diagnosed as a baby at just 16 months old with Type 1 diabetes which is an incurable endocrine disorder whereby the body can not produce its own natural insulin. We talk about the lack of awareness in the public (and associated stigma) of the difference between Type 2 and Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 carries far more life risks and Faye talks openly about growing up with the disease, and how she manages needing at least 4 injections every single day, along with the frightening risks of life-threatening hypos. However Faye is a very good advocate for how to not let your disease define you, how she continues to live life well. Faye works with young adults newly diagnosed with T1DM and has helped create the first adapted Duke of Edinburgh award to make it more accessible for people with diabetes to take part. Another brilliant example of someone proving that even when facing your mortality, and living with a relentless condition that in Faye's words 'every single day there is no escaping' - Faye still continues to live her life on her terms. A brilliant voice and grateful to have Faye join our campaign and share her story with us.Shining the spotlight on women facing their own mortality - those affected at a young age by a life changing illness or disease. 100 Voices sharing messages of hope and strength through our podcast with a powerful photography series ‘Scars of Gold' inspired by kintsugi. Prevent and Reverse Naturally Type 2 Diabetes

Good Morning and Welcome,I hope you are well. Diabetes Burn Out is a familiar occurrence to many diabetics. It is a state of frustration and disillusionment as a result of being diabetic. Many Diabetes sufferers go through this. My feelings and burn out are not unique to me. Virtually all Diabetics go through Burn out from time to time.Because Diabetes will be with me for the rest of my life, I have to recognize that: ·       time, ·       energy, ·       thought and·       care  Are allocated on a daily basis and that regardless of why I am burned out I owe myself a duty of care equivalent to when I am not burned out. The emotional, mental and financial drain can be onerous. Increased risk for depression, anxiety, and eating disorders may appear for Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetics.   Depression is one of the most serious mental health complications that can occur alongside Diabetes. It has recently been recognized as a distinct illness called Diabetes distress. The risk of developing depression is two to three times higher in people with Diabetes. Some diabetic patients may feel burdened by the self-care demands of the disease, including the fear of complications, diet maintenance, and regular physical exercise. Having doubts about their level of care and accountability in managing their Diabetes can be distressing, which may lead to depression.[1]I have started Journaling. Journaling is a written account of events and emotions that you experience. A journal can be as rough or complete as you choose. It may also be colourful, rather like a scrap book. I used to keep something like a journal on my computer. But I have stopped doing that in favour of a Caran d'Ache fountain pen and a Rhodia Web notebook. In my latest book - Crohn's, Celiac, Colitis, Diabetes, Stoicism and Journaling I go into Journaling as a tool to help with Diabetes Burn out and personal balance. As the book title implies, I write about Crohn's, Celiac, and Colitis along with Diabetes. These conditions may occur with Diabetes, all are linked with Diabetes and sufferers may have to deal with more than once condition simultaneously. Links to the latest book were I discuss Journaling and much moreeBookhttps://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0DF2G49GHPaperbackhttps://www.amazon.ca/dp/199087634XHave a great day.[1] Avantika Pandey, "Diabetes Type 2 and Mental Health,"  (2023).Mark

Type 1 DM most commonly occurs between 5 to 15 years of age, but it can occurs at any age after 6 months of birth and even in elderly people. In T1DM beta–cells of pancreas get destroyed completely due to autoimmunity or post-viral infection or idiopathic (Unknown Cause). India ranks at first position in the prevalence of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus in the World. It's common symptoms include polyuria.(increased urination), polydipsia (increased thirst), polyphagia (increased appetite) & weight loss. Their treatment includes Insulin and medical nutrition therapy. They have to take insulin injection 4 times a day or sometimes even more Acute complications of T1DM includes Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) & hypoglycemia, which needs immediate action. Some important diagnostic tests for T1DM include fasting C-Peptide, GAD 65 antibodies test and antibody to Celiac Disease etc. Recorded on the 12th May 2023 at Aakashwani Nagpur.

Learn about the backstory, the why and the how. Why the way insulin is infused matters for an improved outcome of those living with Diabetes 1 & 2 but also other Metabolic Conditions. As Spruce Health States," What is Diabetes and Metabolic Therapies (DMT)? DMT is a groundbreaking treatment where insulin is administered as a hormone rather than a drug; addressing the primary cause of Diabetes which is a metabolic failure. By utilizing insulin in a manner that bio-mimics normal physiology, this modality is designed to reduce insulin resistance and increase cellular energy. Increasing cellular energy allows damaged tissues and organs to grow, repair, and regenerate. Thus, our approach not only stabilizes but in many instances has reversed complications of diabetes and other metabolic disorders." Welcome to another edition of our live weekly expert series on the Stress to Success S.H.I.F.T.    Our very special guest is our Institute's Autoimmune Expert, Elizabeth Yarnell.   Since being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1999, Elizabeth has been on a mission to redefine MS and autoimmunity naturally as a traditional naturopath and Certified LEAP Therapist.    She has worked with hundreds of MS and other autoimmune sufferers in her nationwide clinic using unique, customized non-pharmaceutical therapies to empower them to reclaim their health.     She's a TEDx speaker, award-winning author whose cookbook has sold more than 70,000 copies, a patented inventor, and has been featured on CBS, NBC, ABC, and PBS as well as in Good Housekeeping, Health, Martha Stewart Living Radio, and many other outlets.    Her next book, which is focused on Redefining Multiple Sclerosis, comes out in March of 2023.   In this episode, we decided to highlight three hidden causes of Autoimmune conditions that conventional methods miss or ignore.    Then we showed how the Stress to Success S.H.I.F.T. Institute's 16-Week Autoimmune Reset Experience guides you in eliminating these and other hidden factors, so you can restore your health, recover your life, and reinvent your future.   Listen in to learn more!   Talking Points: You may not even realize that what you have is an autoimmune condition If you have any chronic health challenges, you might have autoimmunity, becuase it typically takes years to be formally diagnosed Autoimmunity is caused by chronic inflammation and dysfunction of the immune system. That is in turn caused by hidden factors that are missed or dismissed by conventional methods. The role of the Industrial Revolution in the development of Autoimmune Conditions Types of autoimmune conditions include: Diabetes Type 1 Hashimoto's  Graves Multiple Sclerosis Celiac Psoriasis  Eczema Pernicious Anemia Inflammatory Bowel Disease Rheumatoid Arthritis Lupus Alopecia And many more These autoimmune conditions are caused by the same root as classic allergies, food sensitivities, and asthma.  Once you have one of these conditions, you're prone to others… because they're all caused by these same hidden factors. In fact, they're essentially the same condition… a manifestation of the immune system attacking a particular part of the body Often, people start out with bowel problems before progressing to other complications Factor #1: Diet is a big factor in the immune response and how it is triggered – even eating foods that are considered healthy superfoods [Side note: inflammation can cause you to hold onto weight so you could be doing everything right and still not lose weight] Factor #2: Stress directly causes autoimmune conditions. It depresses your immune system and spikes inflammation through the stress hormone, cortisol. Your brain and body equate stress with the fight for survival and are concerned with keeping you alive in the moment, not whether you get sick or die later on. Factor #3: Underlying Parasitic Infections are a very commone and highly overlooked cause of inflammation, contributing to autoimmune disorders.  -- Listen, rate, and subscribe! So once upon a time, Type 1 diabetes was known as something you were  born with or developed as an infant or young child and Type 2 diabetes was known as being the one you developed from being overweight and living the high fat, high sugar, processed food and sedentary lifestyle.  But I am seeing more and more that these are not the norms anymore.  I have clients who don't eat “bad food” and are pre-diabetic and I have clients with chronic blood sugar handling issues that have a myriad of issues and all that is being prescribed is metformin.  And as my guest today will tell you, there are more and more young adults being diagnosed with Type 1 later in life. My guest today, Isaac Pohlman has a degree in Physiology, a Masters in Nutritional Science and is a Registered Dietitian.  But he also has Type 1 Diabetes and hypothyroidism, both of which he developed in college. Today I want to ask him about his work specializing in people with blood sugar handling issues and insulin resistance ie some people have these issues and don't have diabetes, why its happening and what we can do about it rather than cutting out entire food groups from our diet and going on drugs, that just cascade into needing more and more drugs. In this episode, we talk about: What is diabetes Type 1 Type 2 What is insulin resistance  What is blood sugar handling How are blood sugar and insulin related How is diabetes diagnosed The glucose tolerance test The HBA1C The use of insulin  The use of metformin Cutting out sugar for diabetes management The liver and diabetes PUFA and diabetes Fructose Grain consumption and diabetes The SAD and diabetes Gluten and diabetes Paleo Keto  Restoring metabolic function using metabolic foods and food timing macro balancing Using interventions like niacinamide, aspirin, taurine etc Thyroid and diabetes Cholesterol Statins Autoimmune References: Broda Barnes Ray Peat Josh Rubin You can find Isaac on instagram as @isaacpohlman.  Please tag us both and let us know if you got something out of this episode and please remember to subscribe, rate and review as it really does help this podcast get to more and more people so they can know how their Body Never Lies. Guest: Dr Gurpreet a Medical Physician, Board Certified in Anesthesiology, Addiction, and Interventional Pain. For over 20 years I have practiced in the Urban Core, helping my patients regain their metabolic health.Pain is the final pathway, the body screaming that something has gone terribly wrong. I treat patients at the intersection of the pain epidemic, opioid epidemic, and diabetes epidemic. They are all inter-related pathologies, the clinical manifestations of systemic metainflammation.I spend most of my clinical hours dealing with chronic degenerative diseases that are primarily driven by Metabolic Syndrome leading to Metainflammation. Metabolic Syndrome is a form of malnutrition, malnutrition of excessive energy consumption, and toxicity from:-Acellular Carbohydrates-Synthetic Vegetable Oil consumptionThis malnutrition of excess is aggravated by leaky gut from plant-based chemical defenses. The Standard American Diet has become calorically dense but diluted of protein, minerals, and micronutrients.Unfortunately, Governmental policy combined with the profit motives of Big-Food and Big-Pharma encourages the consumption of manufactured foods, which may be non-nutritive and promote chronic systemic diseases. This disparity of synthesized food (which contains low nutritional value but high caloric load) leads to caloric overconsumption, energy toxicity, and eventual diabesity.Addiction behavior is manipulated by dopaminergic modulation by food manufacturers and gamification of passive activities, in the context of individual loneliness. Social media “connectedness” has created a false paradigm of human interaction, leaving individuals in silos of anonymous and self-destructive behavior.Humans are complex adaptive systems, and systematic failure is rarely a single cause phenomenon. Our historical disease models of single cause pathology are inadequate for this new synthesized Universe.***CONNECT WITH DR. Episode 31: Dafne Wiswell's Story of Raising Children With Type 1 Diabetes and Ankylosing Spondylitis In this episode, Dafne Wiswell discusses her son's experience with Diabetes Type 1 and her daughter's experience with juvenile arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylitis. Her son was diagnosed with Diabetes when he was 2. He started having accidents, drinking a lot of water, had reduced appetite, and experienced intermittent vomiting. Once a friend wasn't able to recognize her child, she called the pediatrician ASAP. The pediatrician ran a bunch of tests and sent them immediately to the hospital where he was found to be in diabetic ketoacidosis. Treatment has included insulin, initially being injections and later using the pump. He also has a service dog that will sense when his blood sugar is low.   Her daughter started to experience pain starting at age 6. She took her daughter to a pediatric rheumatologist, where she was diagnosed with psoriatic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. She was later diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis. She has tried numerous medications for her conditions, but thus far, nothing has really worked. She is currently doing infusions once a month.   Challenges have included learning how to help a child who has a potentially life-threatening condition, learning to recognize and treat patterns, helping her child have a normal childhood and learn to manage his diabetes, finding ways to make it safe for her son to go out with friends, maintaining a romantic relationship, and having  limitations on travel. She has advocated for her children by teaching them their rights, helping  him learn how to advocate for himself at school, and finding less expensive ways to get medications for her children. She copes by prayer, allows herself to feel her emotions, knowing that her children can still live a good life, using social support, and removing toxic people from her life.   She recommends starting earlier with helping your children learn to advocate for themselves, helping them be informed about their healthcare, telling them to shop around for prices for supplies and insurance, and knowing  your child's rights.
