Speedweeks rolls on for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at Ocala, and even with a totally different track layout, it's been the same heavy hitters up front. With points going live tonight, Jonathan Davenport making his debut, RTJ trying to dig out of an early hole, and bigger fields rolling in, things are about to get serious in Florida. Plus, I've got a serious rant about an embarrassing wave of something I've seen popping up across dirt racing, and why this lazy nonsense is hurting the sport more than helping it.
Crate racing chaos again as Wil Herrington wins at All-Tech Raceway, gets DQ'd, then gets un-DQ'd hours later — all while unanswered questions still swirl around Michael Page's mysterious penalties. Plus we break down a wild Florida swing for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and World of Outlaws Late Model Series, and why 14-year-old Wyatt Miller just turned heads with the ASCS National Tour.

he Great American Race is here — and Episode 3 of The Backstretch Podcast dives headfirst into everything that makes Daytona unlike anywhere else. In Heather and Chris' Opening Laps, they break down what truly makes Daytona special — from the history and intensity to the pressure that builds the moment Speedweeks begin. Then in Turn 5, Chase Elliott joins the show to talk about coming heartbreakingly close to winning the Daytona 500, what it's like racing for that Harley J. Earl Trophy, and his thoughts on NASCAR's return to the Chase format. In What Matters | What Doesn't, the debate heats up: Does the current points format really matter to the powerhouse teams? And how much do those tough tracks to start the season actually shape the championship picture? Daytona International Speedway President Frank Kelleher stops by for a special Backstretch Discussion, offering insight into the magnitude of the 500 and what fans can expect this year. To close it out, Chris goes full crew chief mode with his pit box breakdown, detailing his keys to winning at Daytona — strategy, execution, and the moments that can change everything in seconds. History. Strategy. Heartbreak. And the biggest stage in NASCAR. Make sure to like, subscribe, and follow along all season long with The Backstretch Podcast.

This week, we've got the first of a three-part interview with the legendary engine builder, Lou LaRosa. The conversation takes listeners from Brooklyn, Ebbetts Field and Vietnam all the way to the DiGard Racing shop in Daytona. We then page through the February 16, 1989 issue of Grand National Scene. It's a great start to the 1989 edition of Speedweeks at Daytona for Ken Schrader, who captures the pole position for the following week's Daytona 500 AND wins the Busch Clash from the pole. There's a crazy ARCA race at Daytona. There are features on Ernie Elliott and Betty Jane France, as well as a short item on the intricate work put into the Country Time Lemonade uniforms and finally, master wordsmith Joe Whitlock has another beautiful column.
