Kelly Slater, surf etiquette, women in surfing, Blue Crush, Nathan Florence, Jamie O'Brien, Dane Reynolds, the US Open of Surfing, surf culture, surf controversy, and the future of professional surfing all collide in this episode of Pinch My Salt with Sterling Spencer and Cousin Ryan.We break down the viral “paddle harder” surfing controversy and Kelly Slater's response, debate whether surf lineups care more about gender or skill level, and talk surf etiquette, beginner surfers, kook levels, women's surfing, and what actually earns respect in the water. Then Sterling goes deep on Blue Crush, Kate Bosworth, the movie's surf stunt doubles, Hawaii, Sunset Beach, and why Blue Crush may have done more to push surfing into mainstream culture than pro surfers ever realized.Bid on the Signed photo!!!!! https://ebay.io/m/GuSMwaFrom there, we get into Nathan Florence, John John Florence, Jamie O'Brien, Dane Reynolds, Andy Irons, YouTube surfing, surf vlogs, surf media, old-school surf movies, Taylor Steele, Surf Madness, and how social media changed what it means to be a famous surfer. Plus: New Smyrna Beach sharks, surfing while pregnant, Tony Hawk, Herbie Fletcher, foiling, Huntington Beach, the US Open of Surfing, big-wave surfing, and the eternal question: how core is too core?Sterling also tells the story of jumping from traditional surf media into the early internet era, his experience with Taylor Steele and Intersection, and why giving away a surf movie for free helped change the old surf-video model. We debate whether surfers like Nathan Florence and Jamie O'Brien have become more recognizable to the mainstream than traditional professional surfers — and whether YouTube, podcasts, vlogs, Instagram and social media are now more important than contests and surf magazines. Also in this episode: relationship and marriage comedy, Sterling's completely scientific method for “figuring women out,” controlled burns, surfing while pregnant, Brody Jenner, New Smyrna shark encounters, Mason Ho, Herbie Fletcher, kook levels, surf fashion, soft tops, the “core surfer” spectrum, selling out without losing your soul, and whether the US Open of Surfing at Huntington Beach is somehow harder to watch than foil boarding.Pinch My Salt is a surfing and comedy podcast hosted by professional surfer Sterling Spencer and Cousin Ryan, covering surf culture, professional surfing, surf news, surf history, surf industry stories, WSL, surf personalities, internet culture, relationships, comedy and everything weird happening in and around surfing.COMMENT BELOW: Is surfing about gender — or is it really just about skill and kook level?Subscribe for new episodes of Pinch My Salt.#Surfing #KellySlater #PinchMySalt
This is a something a little different, I decided to sit on my front porch and record this one on my phone. We quickly recap the last 2 weeks at New Smyrna and the last 2 weeks of Nascar races to get you back up o speed with everything you may have missed. Sorry the audio sounds a bit off but hopefully you will enjoy the show.
Is Palmer Haag the man to be in the Pro Late Models now? It sure seems that way after a statement win in the Shark Bite 60 this past Saturday at New Smyrna. We recap all the action from a very solid night of racing on the highbanks. Plus we take a look at what went down in Nascar this week as they raced at Lime Rock and Atlanta! Enjoy!
George Gorham Jr. defeats the field twice as New Smyrna was able to defeat Mother Nature to get in the June Edition of Family Fun Night! It was a show that required a ton of patience, but the fact that the whole thing got in and we were done by 10:30 shows great effort on everyone's part! We recap the night in it's entirety and recap a rather bland weekend of racing in Sonoma as Nascar invaded Wine Country. Enjoy!
With co-main events on Saturday Night, we had two big winners at New Smyrna that you would not normally suspect to be on top of the board when the checkers fly. However, I think we better get used to it!! It was a solid show on the high banks and we recap the full event on the first half of the show and then we cover the first ever NASCAR event on the Naval Base at Coronado, that put on 3 pretty entertaining races! We hope you enjoy this week's show. Thanks as always for listening.
Big win for POTUS on war powers as NATO Secretary General has an Oval Office sit down. Wacky sports stories. Win for Trump and for Socialism. Dangerous intersection in New Smyrna maybe getting a roundabout. Trump in Oval. Oil prices.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We breakdown all the action from the War on 44 from New Smyrna this past weekend and try to iron out some of the confusion that took place during the race. We also cover the Nascar weekend from Pocono! Was it a good race or just typical Pocono?
Another weekend, another rainout at New Smyrna. It was a carbon copy of the Orange Blossom a few weeks ago. So on this week's episode we cover all the racing from Watkins Glen including Shane Van Gisbergen's incredible rally late in the race. We also take a look at the point standings from all 3 major series to see where everyone sits as we near the halfway point of the regular season.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. sits down with one of the hardest-working members of the NASCAR garage this week, longtime racer and car owner BJ McLeod. After finding his roots in the Florida super late model scene, BJ took lessons he learned early on in his family's fertilizer and orange harvesting company to successfully assemble a fleet of NASCAR entries. BJ's racing start came through years of go-kart barnstorming up and down the East Coast with his father, before acquiring special permission to enter the late model ranks at the tender age of 12. Through mentoring from legends Pete Orr and Gary Balough, BJ became a terror at Florida strongholds like New Smyrna and Orlando Speedworld. He'd win the coveted World Series of Asphalt in 2010, and it was time for the next challenge. That next challenge came in the form of the world of NASCAR. BJ put together rides in the Trucks Series before taking on the O'Reilly Series with his own team. When the opportunity to purchase a charter and go Cup racing came about, BJ partnered with fellow racer and businessman Matt Tifft to roll the dice. He would make the financial decision to sell the charter to Spire Motorsports, but still aspired to embark on a Cup racing career, which he independently financed from his other businesses like the Pigeon Forge Racing Coaster. Today, BJ remains one of the hardest-working owners and drivers in racing, akin to 1992 NASCAR Champion Alan Kulwicki. His conversation with Dale covers his humble beginnings, championship years in late models, and fulfilling his unique dream of being a driver/owner in NASCAR. What a wild way to end the 2025 regular season at New Smyrna. The Sprint Cars roared back to the high banks with a spectacular show of raw speed and domination by Colton Bettis! Dale Earnhardt Jr. welcomes longtime NASCAR Cup crew and car chief Tony Gibson to the Download to learn about his path from the short tracks of the Southeast to stock car glory. Growing up in a racing household, in the shadows of Daytona International Speedway, Tony began working on his father Bo Gibson's cars at an early age. Tony's older brothers Mark and Pepe also began racing at local strongholds like New Smyrna and Jacksonville and found lots of success at the late model level. Tony explains that Mark's career advancing into the ARCA and Busch Grand National ranks is what helped get his foot in the door of the NASCAR world. And before long he moved from his family home in Florida to North Carolina to work with Norman Negre -- It was there that Tony made Alan Kulwicki's acquaintance. Eventually he would follow Alan, from renting part of the Negre shop, to his own AK Racing outfit, where he'd work for several years. Tony talks about the challenges of working with Alan and the major triumph of winning the 1992 NASCAR Cup Championship as an independent team. He also opens up about the tragic plane crash that claimed Alan's life and how it changed the culture of the team and NASCAR garage forever. Tony would leave for Georgia, working with Bill Elliott for a time before reuniting with Ray Evernham at Hendrick Motorsports at the famed 24 team. Dale and Tony also discuss his years spent at Dale Earnhardt Inc., Stewart-Haas Racing and his current position at HMS working at Hendrick Tech Solutions.Dirty Mo Media is launching a new e-commerce merch line! Five-time Spec Miata champion Preston Pardus joins Davey Segal this week (5:30) ahead of his first attempted Xfinity Series race of 2025. He dives into the revenge he's seeking after failing to quality for COTA last year, why he and Pardus Racing chose the select races they did for this year, how his NASCAR experience has been thus far and how his father Dan's experience at the top level of stock car levels has guided his time thus far. Pardus also details his iconic 2017 SCCA runoffs victory that started it all in Spec Miatas, his super sweep in 2020 and how they've done it all while building cars in their backyard in New Smyrna, Florida. Pardus explains why the No. 50 he's running now in Xfinity is special to the family, racing against his sister (and dad) and why he's so appreciative of his loyal fanbase. Davey also recaps Christopher Bell's win at Atlanta, looks ahead to COTA and Papa Segal pays homage to Bobby Labonte.

Have you ever heard of serial killer Gerald Stano? For years, he sat on death row in Florida, just a few cells down from Ted Bundy. He's also believed my most sources to have killed more girls and young women than Bundy did. So why is this monster, whose first six months of his life were so brutal he was deemed "unadoptable" by the government agency that removed him from his mother's care, almost entirely unknown in the world of true crime?Merch and more: www.badmagicproductions.com Timesuck Discord! https://discord.gg/tqzH89vWant to join the Cult of the Curious PrivateFacebook Group?
