"The Great American Race" will take place on Sunday, but the guys and callers talk about how the tradition just isn't the same anymore.
Fresh off his second straight Daytona 500 win, William Byron's spotter Branden Lines joins Davey Segal (6:25) to break down how the 2025 Great American Race was won, why the celebration of this one was vastly different than winning on a Monday in 2024, how he passed time during the rain delay and the art of Gen 7 spotting and how he's evolved his craft since working with Byron in Cup. Lines also touches on the “Triangle of Trust” Byron, crew chief Rudy Fugle and the No. 24 team have established over the last 4 years, how far he and Byron go back, getting started in motorsports growing up outside of Indianapolis, living with Daniel and Kenzie Hemric and Chris Gabehart while trying to make it in racing, the satisfaction of winning a Truck Series championship with Ty Majeski last season and more, including how Atlanta differs from Daytona and what the No. 24 team is capable of in 2025. Davey also recaps the chaotic and surprising finish, looks ahead to Atlanta and Papa Segal pays homage to The King of the Beach.

For many motor racing fans, the month of May means one thing: The Indianapolis 500. Famously known as 'the greatest spectacle in racing', the Indy 500 captured American hearts from its inception in 1911 - but the race has also tantalised Europe's racing elite over the years, charmed by its big prize pot and unique challenge. On this episode, Matt Bishop (journalist, editor, novelist and PR) and Richard Williams (journalist, author and broadcaster) take a look at the roots of oval racing and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway itself, before focusing on famous European incursions at the great American race. Tune in for stories about the wine-drinking Frenchman who triumphed in 1913, Ferrari's ill-fated attempt at the 500 in 1952, Lotus' ultimately victorious campaign at The Brickyard in the 1960s, and much more. Plus, Matt gives us his personal recollections of working alongside Fernando Alonso during the Spaniard's fabulous (but fruitless) attempt at the 500 in 2017, and Richard takes us back to the early 1990s, when he witnessed first-hand Nigel Mansell's two participations at Indy in 1993 and 1994. It's January of 1979 and 28-year-old Dale Earnhardt is ready to embark on the greatest challenge he's faced in his young career to date: a full season in the NASCAR Cup Series.
