Race fans got double the IndyCar short oval action this past weekend in Iowa, and our resident open wheeler Conor Daly was putting on a high line clinic. He joins co-host Chase Holden to unpack the action from Iowa Speedway and how he delivered Juncos Hollinger Racing's best qualifying effort on a short oval to date. Conor explains that he was combating right front temperature issues in the first race but a late caution put him in position to bring home a seventh-place finish. In race two, an untimely caution for Colton Herta ended up ruining his team's strategy, which trapped him two laps down late in the running. Conor expresses his heartbreak from the situation, as had the race run green he would have been in contention for a top-five finish and great points effort.Winner of the first race and the first driver to park a Chevy in victory lane this season Pato O'Ward joins the show to debrief with Conor about their time together in Iowa. The guys chat about the strategy in race one and how moving to the high line as soon as possible was key for making up track position. Pato talks about struggling to get around lapped traffic but how overall the racing product was twice as better this year as last season's doubleheader. Despite this, the guys discuss the low attendance and television ratings and try to come up with solutions for bringing fan interest back to the Iowa short oval. The guys also take a look at the rest of the season and Pato's championship hopes.

Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Tonight, on Trackside with Kevin Lee and Curt Cavin, they talk about this past weekend's IndyCar doubleheader at the Iowa Speedway with Team Penske continuing their dominance, but it wasn't “The King of Corn Country”, Josef Newgarden, however his two teammates were victorious. Scott McLaughlin won the Hy-Vee Homefront 250 Saturday night for his first career oval win, while Will Power won the Hy-Vee One Step 250 Sunday night for his first win in Iowa. They talk about how the racing was subpar, especially for the new hybrid system, and how the crowd looked along with some revisions going throughout the speedway. They even talk about the crowd for the concerts from Luke Combs, Eric Church, Kelsea Ballerini, and Post Malone.   Later in the first hour of the show, Kevin talks to Curt about how he benefited from watching the race from pit exit at Iowa from the broadcast this past weekend. They also talk about the late TV channel change from the Saturday night to CNBC as the world reacted to the assassination attempt of former President, Donald Trump.  To wrap up the first hour of the program, Kevin talks about some stats from the Iowa Speedway, previews the second hour of the show, including the Brickyard weekend on the return to the oval for the NASCAR Cup Series, and more racing at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park.  To start the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt go through questions on Twitter, starting with how the Indy NXT Championship could play out, weather affecting the streets of Toronto, Hailie Deegan in the Indy NXT paddock, and more questions with the hybrid system.   Later in the second hour program, Kevin and Curt go through more Twitter questions, and talk more about Sting Ray Robb's massive crash from Iowa and that he was cleared to return to racing this weekend at Toronto. They also provide some little silly season updates from Alexander Rossi and more.   Then to wrap up another addition of the show, Kevin talks fast thoughts about Hunter McElrea making his debut this weekend in Toronto and Robert Wickens winning in the Michelin Pilot Challenge at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

If you're hearing this episode, there's been another change in the Arrow-McLaren paddock, as it is reported that Alexander Rossi will be replaced by Christian Lundgaard in the 2025 season. Conor and Chase speculate where Alexander may end up, and how his Indianapolis 500-championship resume ensures he'll likely land in a competitive ride. He also talks about teaming up with Travis Pastrana and the Channel 199 crew for some off-kilter racing activities at the Hartford and Kalamazoo Speedway facilities in Michigan before retreating to Pastranaland to create some new death-defying content. The “four minutes of fun for the four-4-time Indy 500 champions” segment returns and Conor details a recent Delta Airlines nightmare he experienced. Denny Hamlin is back in studio after a 24th-place finish in Iowa. Denny discusses what happened with his car and why the No. 11 team missed the setup. Even still, Denny looked to have a chance to finish in the top 10 until he got caught up in an accident with Kyle Larson. Before this weekend's race, many were critical of the partial repave at Iowa Speedway. Denny explains why the track performed better than people expected. While the repave worked, Denny still has a request for Goodyear.Denny breaks down his POV from the driver's seat, including the unintentional contact with Larson. Denny and cohost Jared Allen discuss how Ricky Stenhouse Jr's strategy paid off, helping him get a top-five finish. Did NASCAR get it right with the Daniel Hemric caution call? The guys also talk about how Larson had the fastest car, but his day was finished when Daniel Suarez caused him to wreck. Meanwhile, the Fords had a quiet start to the season but they have found speed the last couple weeks as evidenced by Ryan Blaney and Austin Cindric's wins. Does that make Joey Logano the most dangerous driver on the cut line?Denny has had back-to-back bad weeks, but he isn't worried about how things are going. In their off-track discussion, Denny and Jared wonder if Sam Mayer should be one of the drivers considered for a Cup car next year. Denny's longtime teammate, Martin Truex Jr., announced that he is retiring from driving full time and Denny talks about what that means.   We start your week right with a couple pick you up stories like Donald Trump wanting to eliminate taxes for service industry workers and Steve Bannon going viral with a smack down video for 2024.    The Royals win two of three and now host the Yankees for four.  Caitlin Clark is shut out of the Olympics in the dumbest sports decision in history.  The Celtics coach is not only up 2-0 in the NBA Finals he's crushing every news conference with short sentences about what's really important.  Scotty Scheffler wins on the PGA Tour.   Kyle Larson picks up his third win of the Cup season as history is about to made in Iowa.  Iowa Speedway President Eric Peterson is a native Kansan who worked at Kansas Speedway and then NASCAR before taking over the track a few months ago.  His first order of business was to prepare the speedway for this week's Iowa Corn 350, the first Cup race ever in Iowa.   He joins us for a great conversation.
