From the Cornfield to the Checkered Flag: Ethanol Wins Every Race

Farm4Profit Podcast

Farm4Profit heads to Iowa Speedway for the Iowa Corn 350 powered by Ethanol with Craig Floss, CEO of Iowa Corn, and Eric Petersen, President of Iowa Speedway, to talk NASCAR, ethanol, corn demand, and what's ahead for racing in Iowa. The conversation dives into why Iowa Corn continues to invest in NASCAR as a way to promote ethanol beyond the farm audience. NASCAR has raced on E15 since 2011, providing a high-performance example of ethanol in action while helping Iowa Corn reach consumers and build demand for one of Iowa farmers' biggest products. Craig shares the bigger picture for ethanol, including growing exports to countries around the world, opportunities in Southeast Asia, and the continued push for greater access to E15 and eventually higher ethanol blends. The group also discusses Iowa Corn's work around high-ethanol farm equipment and why creating additional ethanol demand could have a meaningful impact on corn markets and farm profitability. Eric gives listeners a look behind the scenes at Iowa Speedway, including three consecutive NASCAR sellouts, plans for a complete track repave, and the exciting news that NASCAR will return to Iowa over Independence Day weekend in 2027. He explains what goes into rebuilding a racing surface and the massive amount of work required to turn a facility with only nine full-time employees into a major NASCAR venue. From international ethanol markets to 700-horsepower race cars, this episode shows how Iowa Corn is using motorsports to connect farmers with consumers, demonstrate ethanol performance, and ultimately create more demand for corn. As Craig puts it, no matter which driver takes the checkered flag, ethanol and Iowa corn farmers win every race.     Want Farm4Profit Merch? Ty Gibbs is officially a two-time NASCAR Cup Series winner! Gibbs conquered Iowa Speedway to score the second victory of his Cup Series career, and Kerry Murphey and Toby Christie are breaking down everything from a wild weekend in Iowa on this edition of The Final Lap Weekly. Then it's time for the NASCAR News of the Week from TobyChristie.com, and there's plenty to unpack. Kyle Busch's iconic M&M's Toyota is making a return — sort of — as NASCAR prepares for a nostalgic tribute that longtime Rowdy fans are going to love. Denny Hamlin wanted different brakes for Iowa, but NASCAR apparently wasn't interested in letting that happen. We dig into the controversy surrounding NASCAR allegedly threatening to create a “made-up rule” to prevent the change and what that could mean for teams trying to improve their cars. The NASCAR Cup Series point standings are getting shaken up, and one of the biggest stories is Tyler Reddick's sudden plunge down the standings. How much trouble is he really in as the season heats up? Then we turn our attention to New Hampshire Motor Speedway for a complete weekend preview. Who should thrive at the Magic Mile, which teams need a huge result, and could we see another surprise winner? Plus, Rowdy Dragon returns with his Fantasy NASCAR Picks for New Hampshire, giving you the drivers you need to consider before locking in your fantasy lineup. Hosted by Kerry Murphey and Toby Christie, The Final Lap Weekly delivers NASCAR race reactions, breaking news, analysis, controversy, fantasy NASCAR picks, and previews every week. This week on Bringing the Heat With Trey Lyle, Caleb Barnes joins Lyle to focus on the biggest takeaways from the race at Iowa Speedway and talk the hottest topics of the week so far. One driver who has been a not-so-hot topic is Tyler Reddick, after a mistake took the No. 45 out of contention in the opening laps over the weekend. While Barnes believes the panic level is pretty high for the team, these next few races are key for Reddick to regroup and try to rebuild some confidence before the start of the Chase. With just three races left before the cutoff, Barnes and Lyle debate the drivers with the most to lose — or gain — when it comes to qualifying for the field of 16 drivers. That includes some concern about Shane van Gisbergen, along with some hope for some of the Ford drivers to use their short track speed to close on the cut line. Is Corey Heim vs. Carson Hocevar the Next Great NASCAR Rivalry? It might be a little too early to say yes. This week, fans found out that Corey Heim will not be eligible to compete for Rookie of the Year in 2027 due to a new regulation NASCAR is putting in place to determine who can qualify for the award. Barnes believes it's an unnecessary addition, while Lyle wonders if the Cup Series will even have anyone else available to run for 2027 Rookie of the Year. This week's news also brings a number of schedule announcements, including the return of the All Star Race to North Wilkesboro Speedway. While Barnes is sad to see the points race taken away, he thinks it's an opportunity to go to work on the short track package. Meanwhile, Lyle shares his excitement that the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series is returning to the historic venue in 2027. This week's soundbite comes from Christopher Bell, who reiterates some of his frustration with finishing in the runner-up spot yet again. Barnes and Lyle review if Bell could have handled the final run to the finish any differently at Iowa, and what the remainder of the season could look like if the No. 20 team does wind up breaking through to get to victory lane in the next few weeks. Watch Bringing the Heat With Trey Lyle here or listen wherever you get your podcasts.

The conversation highlights his partnership with Sukup Manufacturing and what it means to represent a company rooted in American agriculture at the Iowa Speedway, where corn isn't just grown—it powers the race itself.Topics Covered:The Making of a Champion: How Kyle's early karting success and Road to Indy dominance prepared him for the big leagues.Inside Andretti Global: A look at the legendary team's legacy, innovation, and culture of excellence.Ag Meets IndyCar: The story behind Sukup's sponsorship and why agricultural brands are increasingly visible in motorsports.Ethanol Power: Kyle explains how E85 ethanol-based fuel enhances car performance and efficiency, and why it's both a renewable and high-performance solution.Shared Values: The parallels between racing and farming—precision, data-driven decision-making, and the pursuit of efficiency.Future of the Sport: How technology, sustainability, and partnerships like Sukup's are driving the next chapter of racing innovation.Listeners get a unique peek into the mindset of a professional racer who's not just chasing checkered flags, but also celebrating the partnership between the track and the tractor. Race fans got double the IndyCar short oval action this past weekend in Iowa, and our resident open wheeler Conor Daly was putting on a high line clinic. He joins co-host Chase Holden to unpack the action from Iowa Speedway and how he delivered Juncos Hollinger Racing's best qualifying effort on a short oval to date. Conor explains that he was combating right front temperature issues in the first race but a late caution put him in position to bring home a seventh-place finish. In race two, an untimely caution for Colton Herta ended up ruining his team's strategy, which trapped him two laps down late in the running. Conor expresses his heartbreak from the situation, as had the race run green he would have been in contention for a top-five finish and great points effort.Winner of the first race and the first driver to park a Chevy in victory lane this season Pato O'Ward joins the show to debrief with Conor about their time together in Iowa. The guys chat about the strategy in race one and how moving to the high line as soon as possible was key for making up track position. Pato talks about struggling to get around lapped traffic but how overall the racing product was twice as better this year as last season's doubleheader. Despite this, the guys discuss the low attendance and television ratings and try to come up with solutions for bringing fan interest back to the Iowa short oval. The guys also take a look at the rest of the season and Pato's championship hopes.
