A driver with six championships somehow flew under the radar as a big-race threat — until a $100,000 win last weekend changed the conversation entirely. We make the case for who the most dangerous sprint car driver in the country really is, plus new details on the Troutman-GR Smith split and a loaded weekend of racing ahead.
A top five World of Outlaws late model team just split up mid-season, and the rumblings about this one had been circulating for weeks before it became official. Plus, a fan-favorite sprint car driver may finally be returning to the seat after nearly three months on the sideline, and the old guys in dirt late model racing are reminding everyone they're not done yet.
My biggest gripe across the sport of dirt racing, and really mostly focused on sprint car racing, is something that happens, or actually doesn't happen, at all of the sport's crown jewel events. I don't understand it, I don't like it, it happened this weekend at Huset's, it's already happened previously this year, and as the prestige of the events ramps up this summer, it's going to happen more.
For 2026 late model speedweeks, we saw the World of Outlaws zag on years of cooperation and schedule a race weekend directly against the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series opener. The move drew mixed opinions at the time, and it split cars in Florida and forced teams to make early decisions on what tour they would follow. No more games on signing up for both series, and deciding later in the spring. I assumed this would be the case again for 2027, but something curious happened this week. We'll dive into that today on DIRTRACKR Daily presented by Horsepower Hydration, which also includes big news for Hunt the Front, we'll also talk sprint cars at Huset's and Skagit, and more.
One illegal decision five years ago set off a chain reaction that reshuffled teams, drivers, and crew chiefs across sprint car racing, and the effects are still shaping championships today. We trace the full timeline, connect the dots you might have missed, and look ahead to the richest week in sprint car racing at Huset's.
Bobby Pierce is dominating with a package that almost nobody else in dirt late model racing is running. I dug into who else is on them and why more teams haven't made the switch. Plus, Brent Marks finally won again, a young Outlaw driver is quietly having the best stretch of his career, and there's a concerning development at a well-known Ohio dirt track.
He's been doubted, criticized, and counted out, but last night a polarizing young driver broke through on his birthday — and he did it the hard way from fifth. Meanwhile, the High Limit title race took another wild turn, a late model crossover event has everyone talking, and we've got Indiana Midget Week and weekend previews.
Rico Abreu led every lap at Eagle while most of the High Limit regulars had a night to forget, and the championship standings look completely different this morning. We break down what went wrong for the favorites, why a familiar blue oval logo quietly appeared on a sprint car last night, and what it all means heading into a pivotal stretch.
Steve Post and Ashley Stremme have a great conversation with the driver of the Sides Motorsports 7s on the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series tour, Chris Windom. They talk about his season so far, working with Jason Sides, moving from USAC to winged cars, if he misses USAC, family life and more.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

(27:34-37:10) – Josef Newgarden captured the checkered flag in St. Louis for the sixth time in the ten-year history of the race. Jake is asked a couple of questions about last night’s event by people via the textline. (37:10-46:40) – Jake Query and producer Eddie Garrison conclude the first hour of the show by discussing some of the names that the Indiana Pacers have been linked to this off-season. Is Giannis Antetokounmpo a legitimate option? Do they have a running back that can spell Jonathan Taylor? Where will the Indianapolis Colts get their pass rush production from? Plus, they discuss all the issues that are going on in sports with athletes gambling. (1:12:34-1:24:01) – Earlier in the show, Eddie said there was something he noticed when watching the New York Knicks defeat the San Antonio Spurs in game two of the NBA Finals. Jake reacts to what Eddie had to say because there should be some mixed emotions by the Indiana Pacers. (1:24:01-1:34:34) – Hour number two of Query & Company concludes with Jake seeing if Eddie can finally correctly guess what Indiana attraction fell on the list of the top 50 list of most overrated attractions in the United States. (1:34:34-1:55:33) – The final hour of the show tips off with John Nolan and Debbie Antonelli joining Jake Query fresh off of eating lunch together to preview tonight’s WNBA Commissioner’s Cup game against the Washington Mystics. They also discuss the shooting troubles for Caitlin Clark offensively, how she is being targeted defensively, and they give Jake some advice on what to do tonight for his special dinner with Shannon. (1:55:33-2:10:04) – USAC driver Gavin Miller joins Jake Query ahead of Indiana Midget Week across the state of Indiana this week. Jake asks him about which track is his favorite to race at, if he has any appreciation for the love that Indiana has for racing based off of how many fans come out and support during this week, and how he views this week after being around for a couple of seasons now. Talia Davood is an Iranian, first generation American, undergraduate student at UCLA and an elected USAC General Representative. This past year she has shown up with tremendous courage, clarity, and sheer resilience. In April, Talia organized an event where former Hamas held hostage Omer Shemtov came to share his story of captivity, an event attended by hundreds of people. While the event was taking place, a condemnation letter from a fellow student council member was published, framing the event as insensitive to the Palestinian cause, and questioning the security presence that was there to protect over 350 attendees, security that any event of that size is fully eligible. Talia responded with her own letter, one that she read aloud at a subsequent student council meeting that was direct, rational, and completely dismantled every allegation. Talia doesn't just push back, she's pushes toward. She is doing the work to build real bridges across faith communities, finding common ground with students who want to move forward together, even amidst deep divides. For more, you can follow the show on Instagram @GraceforimpactpodcastProduced by Peoples Media Hosted on Acast.
