Welcome back to Intellicast! We have a great new episode for you. Brian Lamar and Producer Brian kick off the episode discussing Brian’s involvement in his local government and some of the activities he has been involved in. The guys then dig into the latest marketing research news. The first story they cover is Paradigm’s acquisition of the Tellwut panel assets. The next few stories continue the rebranding/naming segment we have had the past few weeks. We talk about how SurveyGizmo has rebranded as Alchemer. Then we turn our attention to the investment Clovis Point Capital has made in NinjaCat. The guys then discuss a recent article about how 40% of CMOs said their most significant challenge of the next year is to understand consumer behavior and what changes are permanent versus temporary. That dovetails nicely with the next story on how two-thirds of global brands plan to invest in their brands in the next 12 months, despite the pandemic. Finally, the guys discuss the recent news from Amazon and their launch of a new invite-only panel and what that means not only for the sample industry but other industries. See you all next week! Welcome to the 2019 IIEX North America Conference Series. Recorded live in Austin, this series is bringing interviews straight to you from exhibitors and speakers at this year’s event. In this interview, host Jamin Brazil interviews Marc Macellaio, Vice President of Sales at Fuel Cycle. Contact Marc Online: LinkedIn Fuel Cycle [00:00] Marc Macellaio, Fuel Cycle. This is the second interview I did on site at IIeX with Fuel Cycle. Fuel Cycle is a marketing research cloud platform that allows you... They have their own set of solutions and also you can plug in some external tools that you might have as well in your research portfolio. You know for me, this is probably one of the more interesting businesses. When I think about my next thing, I definitely feel like there’s an element of their API-driven marketplace yadi-yadi-yada that is real interesting. But I’d encourage you to think about the last 12 years that they’ve been in business: how they have evolved and stayed, not just relevant, but actually move more, more towards the cutting edge of technology and adding value to our ecosystem. Enjoy. [00:50] I am sitting here with the head of sales, Marc, at Fuel Cycle. Marc, thanks for joining me on the Happy Market Research Podcast. [00:56] Thanks for having me. Really appreciate it. [00:57] Alright, cool, man. What do you think about the show? IIeX, this is Day 3. I’m a little tired [01:02] I’m a little tired, but we’re having a blast. A lot of energy and really innovative tools out there. [01:07] You guys have a nice presence in the North Hall, I think, or South Hall. [01:10] Yeah, one of the two. The one with the big, orange pillows in the couches, everything, yeah. Can’t miss us. [01:16] Right, totally. So, were you at last year’s IIex? [01:20 I was. [01:20] What do you think about the difference in venues? [01:21] I love this venue. Obviously, it’s larger, more space. I think more energy. I mean it’s easier to get around and a... The last year just getting too large, I guess, people kind of getting shoved out. So this has been great. [01:34] Have you been able to attend any sessions? [01:36] A handful of sessions, yeah. Mainly, I’m kind of working the room, working the booth, that kind of thing. But, yeah, a lot of really good information around and talks around AI and sort of what’s next around market research. So really cool. [01:46] So, let’s talk about Fuel Cycle. You guys are a, from my understanding, a comprehensive, end-to-end research technology platform that allows community management and then you also have your own tools for conducting qualitative research. Is that right? [02:00] That’s correct, yep. [02:01] And then, in addition to that, you have the capacity through your API’s to interact with other third-party tools like Voxpopme or SurveyGizmo or whatever. [02:11] Typically, when people work with us, they’ll say, “Hey, we want to build a community.” And so, we’ll put together a community that allows them to do both the qualitative - discussion boards, diary studies, live chats, video IDI’s, video focus groups (mobile, by the way). But also, it comes with our SurveyGizmo partner Quant Solutions. So, it allows them to do again the quant and the qual and connect all the data in one community environment, right? [02:34] Got it. It makes a lot of sense to me. So, how long have you guys been working with SurveyGizmo? [02:38] Last probably three to four years now. [02:40] OK, good. And how long have you been around? ‘Cause you’ve really been popping for the last two years. I didn’t hear a lot about you before. [02:46] You know about four or five years ago, we revamped our whole platform, calling it really Fuel Cycle, and it’s really changed the game.
Rampant in the market research and insights world for a few years now: widespread misuse of a popular piece of research lingo. And recently, I notice this misuse is getting even worse. As a profession, I think we would all agree that common market research jargon should be used precisely. But when it comes to the phrase "DIY Research," all bets are off. I commonly see the phrase used to mean 4 very different things: 1.Online surveys 2. Market research conducted by people without skills or training (a la home improvement) 3. Online surveys conducted using platforms such as Decipher, Qualtrics, SurveyGizmo, etc. 4. Market research conducted by corporate researchers Which of these definitions is correct? They can't all be! In this conversation, I share some context about how the term "DIY" Research is commonly used and abused, and share an example from a recent trade show promotion.

In this episode, I take you behind the scenes as I create a digital product from the ground up. I'll share everything with you, I mean everything. I'll share what works and what doesn't work.As I mentioned in last week's episode, I am being coached by one of the best in the business, Eben Pagan, so I'm sure you'll find what I share about my pre-launch phase very interesting.Over the last week I have been performing my usual market and niche research and developed strategies to connect with my prospective audience and find out exactly what their major issues are when it comes to marketing their massage business.Once I established there was a market and my project was viable I set about working on a name. I wanted the name to be memorable and came up with “Make Money With Massage”, it was created using a system I learnt from Eben Pagan and not only has a nice rhythm to it, it is also very clear as to what the course is about.Next I registered the domain name and installed WordPress, OptimizePress and OptimizeMember. For this project I'm not looking at publishing to Udemy, Teachable or similar platforms, I'm also not going to be using a LMS WordPress plugin.OptimizePress provides me with all the templates I need for my marketing and promotion, lead capture and secure content delivery. At some point I may consider putting a teaser course up on Udemy to generate leads back to my site but there's a lot of work to do before that even becomes an option. In order to establish a connection with my prospective students I wrote a 15-page report called “5 Marketing Mistakes That Could Be Killing Your Massage Business”, the report title creates curiosity. If you were running a struggling massage business is that something that would grab your attention? The report runs through some common mistakes and provides options, in other words, the report provides actionable content. In addition to the free report I also set up a free GotoWebinar account and scheduled a “Marketing Your Massage Business” webinar for later in the month. Then I went to SurveyGizmo and set up a short survey asking what is their #1 challenge when it comes to marketing their massage business. With all these research components in place I then wrote a short autoresponder sequence just to get the ball rolling and cover the first couple of days. I'll add to the sequence during the week.As you can see, everything I have done to date has been targeted at connecting with my prospect audience and finding out what they need. I am running a Facebook Ads campaign and getting a steady flow of clicks and opt-ins.If all this wasn't enough I also created a Podcast and recorded the first three episodes over the weekend. It has been submitted to iTunes and I hope to see it live before the end of the week. So, that's phase 1 of my Make Money With Massage project. I'm very pleased with how it is all coming together and the response I'm getting from my advertising.Stay tuned for the next installment! Please take a couple of minutes and let me know what your #1 challenge is when it comes to creating or marketing your online course.Need help getting started with the creation of your online course? If you have a question about any aspect of online course delivery, from concept to market, please feel free to send me an email at AskTim@EcourseDomination.com. I'd love to hear from you and your question could very well feature in a future podcast.I want to deliver relevant material so keep those emails rolling in.If you enjoyed this episode please like, share and comment below. Help get the news in the streets. If you could take a moment to pop over to iTunes and leave an honest rating and review I would truly appreciate it.n.
