Today, I try to persuade 20 total strangers to listen to Nudge. To help, I've asked Brain Ahearn for advice. Brian's Tedx talk on pre-suasion has been viewed by over 1 million people. He teaches tactics that anyone can use. So, I put his advice to the test. I've found 40 strangers and asked them if they'd listen to Nudge, but for 20 I used Brian's ‘pre-suasion'. Did it work? I've spent hundreds of hours playing Nintendo Brain Training. I've always thought it'd make me smarter. Most people agree. I asked 25 Brits, and 24 said it “helps their memory.” And yet, my guest on Nudge, Prof Dan Simons, thinks we're all wrong. So, does Nintendo brain training work? Well, in today's episode of Nudge, I find out. First, I analysed the dozens of ads Nintendo had put out. I share the psychological nudges they used to persuade us and how they made their game so popular. Then, I run my own experiment. For 5 days, I play Nintendo Brain Training. I record my progress and measure if my intelligence has improved after a week. And finally, I chat with Professor Dan Simons and hear why he thinks so many people like me were lured in by Brain Training's claims. Welcome back to Intellicast! Today's episode is a bit different than normal. Brian Lamar and Producer Brian kick off the episode by jumping into some market research news, but all stories are tied to the theme of today's epsiode: AI. First up, the guys discuss the news of SurveyMonkey's new AI tool called Build with AI. They talk about how this can help non-researchers write better questionnaires, along with some speculating about what they hope to see in the tool in the near future. It leads to Brian Lamar touching on a recent WIRe event in Cincinnati where AI was discussed. Next, the guys touch on Voxpopme's new AI tool called Live Interviews. It leads to a conversation about how quickly qualitative firms have embraced technology since COVID. In the final news story, Brian and Brian discuss the recent findings from a Qualtrics study on market researchers' impressions and feelings of AI in market research. There were some surprising results, but the guys found it helpful that while people were optimistic, they did recognize the potential hazards. In the next segment, they guys dig into how AI is being used throughout the industry, along with a variety of examples. They also talk about how EMI is using it internally, for both market research and just to increase efficiency. They guys talk about how they are personally using it along with some of the experiments they have been doing. Brian talks about how while he was testing image creation, he found a glitch where AI was misspelling words in the images, even after being told not to misspell it and being given the correct spelling. Brian Lamar also gives an example of one of the other applications that his team is using AI for. Thanks for listening! The Intersection Between Marketing and CX Shep Hyken interviews Christoph Trappe, a digital and content marketer and the author of Is Marketing A Good Career? He talks about how marketing can support customer experience and success teams to ensure the brand story resonates with customers throughout their journey. Top Takeaways: · Customer experience, including customer service, is marketing. Create an experience that gests people to say, "I'll be back," and makes them want to share it with others. · Understand what your customers want and deliver consistently. Customers usually have many options. When your product is available in other places, customer experience becomes the differentiator that determines if your customers continue to do business with you or move on to your competitors. · Every company has a story - what they are about, how they work, and what kind of experience their customers can expect of them. Marketing must tell that story to the customer support team so everybody in the company can embody that story. · The frontline customer service and sales reps dealing directly with your customers are part of your marketing department. · Your best marketing campaign comes from customers who have had an experience with your business and tell people about it. · Social media managers are more involved in customer service now than they used to be in years past. Make sure your brand's story is shared with your social media team – and everyone else in the company. · Plus, Christophe (content marketer) and Shep (customer service and experience expert) each share their definition of what a brand is. Tune in! Quote: "Marketing is not just about getting people in the door. Marketing is about supporting customer experience and success." About: Christoph Trappe is the Director of Content Strategy at Voxpopme. He is a digital and content marketer and author. His latest book, Is Marketing A Good Career?, is now available on Amazon. Listen to the episode intro and you'll see I decided to try some AI content tools out. The tool I mention in the show that is specifically for show notes is down today, so I decided to use ChatGPT for these show notes. Unfortunately ChatGPT only knows what I tell it about the episode ... which means I basically have to write a description of the episode in order to get it to write a description of the episode ... but here's what it came up with when I asked for a "catchy title and episode description." Title: "Unleashing the Power of Effective Content Teams with Christoph Trappe" Description: In this episode of Grounded Content, we sit down with Christoph Trappe, Director of Content Strategy at Voxpopme and author of "Content Performance Culture." Welcome back to Intellicast! We have a jammed packed news episode for you today. Before jumping into the latest market research news, Brian Lamar and Producer Brian catch up on some current events, including some Halloween talk, as well as talking about the last couple of conferences of 2022. Then the guys jump into the news, starting with a couple of stories about Momentive. First, they discuss the announcement that Momentive was reducing their workforce by 11% as part of a restructuring plan. They then touch on another Momentive story that came out a few days after the previous one where they had been approached about another potential sale. The guys then discuss a string of merger and acquisition stories, starting with the news that Maru Group was acquired by Stagwell, a marketing communications company. They also talk about the acquisition of GutCheck by Toluna, and Voxpopme acquiring Jamin Brazil's company HubUX. As part of the discussion around these acquisitions, it leads Brian and Producer Brian down a road to a couple of philosophical discussions. One is the impact of investment, specifically in the sample industry, and how it is causing sample to become inconsistent because of the investment. The other is how sample is not a commodity. After the large acquisitions segment, Brian and Producer Brian touch on the news about the new product enhancement Suzy has rolled out to their platform. In a story that is right up Producer Brian's alley, the guys talk about the announcement that Nielsen will be reporting viewing figures for Netflix next year as Netflix rolls out their ad-supported subscription option. This leads to a deeper discussion about the bad blood that existed between the two companies just a few years ago, and how they might have moved forward from it. In the final story of this extended episode, the guys touch on the latest IPA Bellweather report that found marketing research spending declined 4.1% in Q3 and the third consecutive quarter of a spending downturn. Hi Fam! You are listening to the happy market research podcast. Be warned, today's episode is a bit self serving. In 2019, I co-founded HubUX. A research operation platform for private panel management, DIY recruitment and qualitative automation. Why? Because opinions are moving fast AF. In fact, Gen Z defines themself as the generation that adapts to changing trends. Brands don't even have time to create ads that can benefit from trends. By the time these trends hit their radar they are already on the down in favor of something else. Keeping track of today's consumers is like watching humming birds on crack. Its a bit fun, but impossible to do for very long. At the same time, recruiting quality particpants for either qual or quant is getting harder and more time consuming. HubUX was setup to solve this. How? By recruiting on social meida platforms like TikTok and screening particpants via a robust survey tool that includes video auditions. Today, about 60% of the projects done on hubux are surveys. These surveys include several video openends. The rest of the projects are automating IDIs and Focus Group workflow. With the activity on our platform being video data collection our clients have been asking for a way to quickly analyze their video data. This lead us to a decision: Build a video analytics tool (this is really really hard by the way) or partner with the leader in video analytics, Voxpopme. I reached out to their leadership. After a few conversations we quickly came to the conclusion that combining forces would increase the probability that we own the video feedback space. On October 26th, 2023 we announced the merger of hubux and voxpop. From my view, the combination of automated research operations and video analytics represent the biggest change in our industry since the invention of surveys in the 1920s, focus groups in 1937, and online surveys in the 1990s. You all know me and my histroy. I may have done the first online survey for commerical purposes in the 90s while at Macro Consulting. Dispite the fact that my dislexia makes reading a bit challenging, my brain helps me to see patterns in the market. And it is abundantly clear that video will play a major part in every modern brands' insights department. The following is the recording of the live announcement that was streamed on 20+ platforms with Jenn Voguel, CRO, and Voxpop cofounder and CPO, Andy Barraclough. Enjoy! Episode 15 takes us outside the comfort zone in looking at the darkness in life and in people. We're talking about True Crime with Jenn Vogel, Chief Revenue Officer, Voxpopme. Both fans of the true crime genre, Jenn and Jo discuss their seemingly irrational (but actually very rational) fascination with criminal acts, and the true circumstances surrounding them, and what that tells about human limitations and moral boundaries. As a people-first leader in the business of playing detective (that is, uncovering the human motivations behind our actions), Jenn speaks of our need to solve mysteries and the lessons we learn from those who survive them. Jenn also reflects on the fine line between detachment from sensationalized stories (often exaggerated, sometimes humorized, even at times completely made up), the need to allow ourselves to be horrified by them, and the importance of seeing human beings in our whole complexity ... even the taboo and less comfortable. -- To look outside, Jenn goes outside! When she is looking to clear her mind or generate creative ideas, nothing beats a walk outside with fresh air (and of course, the dog). She finds not multi-tasking and trying to be doing everything all at once allows her to get into truly fresh ways of thinking. -- Jenn Mancusi Vogel has been in marketing for the research industry for more than 12 years, gaining a great understanding of the ever-changing needs corporate researchers have to deliver insights in new ways, faster and with fewer resources. This is why she decided to join Voxpopme – at the center of the movement for greater customer empathy movement – in 2018. As Chief Growth Officer, she and her team are focused on educating the market about the power of a people-first strategy, and how to leverage video to have customer conversations at scale, throughout every stage of innovation.
