Growing surveillance states. Tech intrusions on privacy. Cyber warfare. International dissent. Assassination. In October 2018, beloved Washington Post journalist and Saudi citizen Jamal Khashoggi was brutally murdered and dismembered upon entering his country’s consulate in Istanbul. The perpetrator: the Saudi government. The reason: speaking truth to power. And yet, to this day, the Kingdom has yet to be held accountable for its actions. It’s a story that shocked the world. Filmmaker Bryan Fogel was compelled to better understand just how such an event could occur. What he discovered was truly Orwellian—and far more disturbing than you can possibly imagine. The result of this quest is The Dissident—a candid portrait of Khashoggi and the bone chilling events surrounding his murder that plays more like an international thriller than a documentary.Best known for Icarus—his Oscar winning exposé of Russia’s elaborate state-sponsored Olympic doping program—Bryan’s follow up is incendiary. Expanding on themes related to those explored in Icarus, it’s controversial. Placing himself and those portrayed on screen at great personal risk, it’s courageous. It’s also expertly crafted. Executed with precision. And a film more than deserving of Oscar consideration.Today Bryan takes us behind the scenes of The Dissident in a riveting tell-all conversation about the consequences of absolute power, global economics, citizen activism, and using your voice for change.Tracking Khashoggi’s trajectory from reformist journalist to dissident to target, this is a discussion about the sacrifice of human rights when they transgress the consolidation of economic and political authority. It’s about citizen activism. The rise of cyber warfare. And the weaponization of social media to both promote and commandeer global political narratives. It’s about Mohammad Bin Salman’s unchecked power in Saudi Arabia. And how international financial interests compromise political and economic relations with the Kingdom.Hollywood is not immune. In fact, Bryan is quite frank about how the industry that celebrated Icarus has snubbed The Dissident out of cowardice. Despite unanimous praise for the film after it’s Sundance premiere, every major distributor and streaming service (including Netflix, which released Icarus) declined to acquire the film due to the Kingdom’s influence over the entertainment business. Much like its protagonist, The Dissident was itself nearly dismembered. Nonetheless, the film will be available on-demand on January 8th.Not to be missed, it’s an Oscar-worthy documentary that demands your attention. One of the most important filmmakers of our time, it was an honor to reconvene with Bryan (check out our first conversation if you missed it).The visually inclined can watch our exchange on YouTube. He talks about how important it is to surround yourself with good positive people and that it is important to not isolate yourself. He shares how it is important for us to watch our behaviors as early indicators to how we are doing internally and a way to help catch ourselves when we are not at our best.

Taylor interviews Bryan Brunton, a man who spent 11 years in a Florida prison. Almost three of those years were spent in solitary confinement. If one is not aware of solitary confinement it is when sensory stimulation and social contact are extremely limited for an inmate. The majority of research suggests a wide range of psychological and physiological effects associated with solitary confinement. It is designed as a way to break down a person mentally and most people claim that it changes them, often for the worse, causing a slew of psychological issues such as PTSD. Bryan was able to overcome these odds and while his stint in solitary confinement did change him, he was able to focus on the positive aspects of this. Bryan used yoga as a way of getting through, mentally and physically. Afterward, Bryan served the rest of his sentence and was released with nothing and no one to turn to for financial support, he was able to move to California and he began to try to piece his life back together. Bryan did his best looking for work after being released but because of his felony record he found this extremely difficult, at one on point living off of eating apples, but Bryan persevered and would not give up. Welcome to a special segment of the Uncensored Humanity Podcast we call American Honesty. During these shows I have two co-costs; Andrew Hoffman and Jake Bible. On the American Honesty segments we like to discuss topics that society has deemed inappropriate. Our goal is to just get our opinions out in the open for a discussion. We believe that the ability to talk about these tough topics is seriously lacking in today's society, as people seem to get offended too easily. Bryan Carpenter was able to join us today for our conversation. Bryan is a former active duty Marine who got blown up by an I.E.D in 2006. All that he wanted in his life was to join the US Military. Bryan had plenty of trouble before he was finally able to join the Military and unfortunately has had even more trouble after due to his accident while serving our country. Today Bryan will tell his story in hopes that others will benefit from his struggles. Hopefully you will enjoy this conversation as much as we did. Bryan has also written a book, The Never-Ending Battle After Iraq – A Marine's Road To Recovery, telling his story. You can find that on Amazon as an E-book. You can also get in touch with him on his author's page on Facebook. Or you can look him up on Instagram @BCarpenter6606. American Honesty is a project that Jake started a couple of years ago. So now using the podcast as our platform we are going to carry on the project that Jake started. Hopefully it will lead to some good conversations that others can enjoy as much as we do. In this episode, I had the honor of interviewing best selling author of Do a Day, Bryan Falchuk.   After facing life changing adversities back to back, Bryan created an approach to help others live a better life based with his Do A Day philosophy.   Bryan was faced with many relatable challenges in life like dealing with depression, self-criticism, judgement from others, living with obesity as a child while trying to sort through his parent's divorce, the stresses from work, depression, the duty of being a good father and husband. At one point, he was even told that his wife's illness was fatal. The most difficult part was having their son watch this all happen.     This contributed a shift in Bryan to wake up to life and live each day, better. Today Bryan shares that it is not just about overcoming the adversity. It's about asking yourself, "how can I create a life of happiness, achievement and balance?"   He has lost nearly 100 lbs., has ran a marathon and even transformed his diet into being vegan in just one day. He got his masters from a top school and rose to a senior executive position in a successful business. And now he’s a best-selling author, has spoken at TEDx events, and has written articles for many major publications like Inc. Magazine, the Chicago Tribune and LA Times. He’s transformed his life and developed an approach to help others do the same that he teaches in his best-selling book “Do a Day”, and he’s here today to share that philosophy with all of you.     Here is what you will learn:  -How to use each day to contribute to your goals to live the life you want -The 3 building blocks to living better each day -How to identify your true motivation (not what you think) -How to be free from the past or the future -Bryan's personal struggles  -How to achieve greater success -How to take specific action -Why we must start with self-love   This philosophy will you to achieve your goals without the self-criticism of our past choices or the worry of what lies ahead.    Bryan is also a regular contributor for Inc Magazine (https://www.inc.com/author/bryan-falchuk) and does many keynote speaking events, including an upcoming TEDx.   Bryan Falchuk overcame adversity, lost nearly 100 pounds, ran a marathon, dramatically changed his      Today, Bryan coaches many people on how to achieve their goals and thrive.    Bryan's quotes throughout the episode:   "You have to focus on the self love because how can you expect to overcome what’s standing in the way and achieve the things you really care about if inside you don’t feel like you deserve it or you’re worthy of it.”     "Self-love is pervasive in all that we do."   "Start allowing for the possibility that you are good, you’re capable and you deserve it."     "Find what's wrong, call it out and fix it but it makes us hypercritical because we are trained to look for what’s wrong in ourselves."    Resources:   Website: http://www.bryanfalchuk.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/bryanfalchuk Twitter: @bryanfalchuk (http://twitter.com/bryanfalchuk) Instagram: @bryanfalchuk (http://instagram.com/bryanfalchuk) TEDx Talk: http://www.doadaybook.com/tedxbergencc

On today's episode of The Art of Paid Traffic Bryan Harris from videofruit.com joins me to talk about a Facebook ads experiment that he did where his goal was to: Primary objective: Get 500 new email subscribers for less than $1 each. Spend $500 on ads in 14 days. Make sure all new subscribers were interested in the topic of list building (his core topic). Get 50% of them to install his List Goal browser extension. Bryan loves doing experiments in his business. In fact, over an 18-month period, he's performed over 100 different marketing experiments. He then reports the results back to his audience with detailed case studies on how you can use the learnings from his experiments in your business -- something he likes to call "Learning Out Loud." Today Bryan shares his strategy for using Facebook ads to get 500 new leads for less than $1, the funnel he started out with and then the one he moved into, how he came up with his ad copy, images and his targeting... He takes you behind the scenes of everything that worked and that didn’t work and shares all his results.
