ST rates have dropped sharply in the past few weeks, the past few days, in particular. The 4w Treasury bill now yields less than IOR, repo, even the Fed's RRP "floor." That's not all: the 3m10s spread has reinverted again. At the same time another major central bank just hit the panic button, going with a 50-bps cut only a few months after getting started. “I'm just waiting for the T-bill tsunami to come, and it can't come soon enough,” says Sue Hill, senior portfolio manager and head of the Government Liquidity Group at Federated Hermes. Hill joins Macro Matters hosts Ira Jersey, Bloomberg Intelligence chief US rates strategist, and Will Hoffman, BI's senior associate US-Canada rates strategist, to discuss the state of the money-market complex amid debt-ceiling-induced supply scarcity. The trio examine the limits and nuances of alternative liquidity-management wrappers, where individual needs and mandates dominate asset compositions. They discuss the debt ceiling, and how her team manages allocation decisions around low but non-zero default risks, as well as unattractive yields relative to alternatives. Also addressed was how the Federal Reserve's RRP facility may have a permanent home as part of the money fund ecosystem, and the industry's slow but steady push toward central clearing as the mid-2027 deadline inches closer.

Ha Ha Merlot 2023, Hawkes Bay. RRP $19.00 Ha Ha means – to ‘Catch your breath' in te reo Māori A palate of plums and blackberry fruit scents, there's a light violet touch and generous fruity core. Fine tannins with medium+ acid line to frame the flavours of plums and red berry fruits. Balanced and refreshing with decent length and lots of style. Best drinking from 2025 through 2028. The Food: Merlot is one of those wines that bridges the earthy umami flavours of winter fare almost seamlessly every time. One such dish a chicken ballotine stuffed with spinach, lentils and prunes. You can substitute out the prunes for dates, raisins or even dried apricot. The natural sweetness of the fruit with the meat is what Merlot likes. Spinach and red wine tannins like each other a lot, and lentils provide the earthy theme to the dish. The lentils can be served on the side if stuffing them into a rolled-up chicken breast or leg doesn't fit your idea of using lentils in that way. The Season: 2023 was challenging to a greater or lesser degree through Aotearoa NZ. The north island was challenged by the wind and rain. Hawkes Bay where this wine was grown got smashed by cyclone Gabrielle. Producers of wine were quick to react and harvest only the best fruit to make wine. The South Island not so much at all. The bottom line is wine from the 2023 vintage on the most part are wines to drink and enjoy now. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Register today before we reach virtual capacity! [3:33] On with the show! Our guest this week is Megan Smalter. She is a Market Development Executive at Lloyd's and the former Chicago RIMS Chapter Rising Risk Professional Committee President. For her many achievements, she was named RIMS Rising Star for 2025. [3:48] If you were at RISKWORLD 2025, you were lucky enough to see her accept the award onstage. We're going to talk all about her contributions to the risk profession during her 9-to-5 and beyond and delve into what is a pivotal moment in her career. [4:04] Everyone listening, especially young risk professionals with big career decisions ahead of them, will get some fresh perspective. [4:14] Interview! Megan Smalter, welcome to RIMScast! [4:35] Megan Smalter talks about the honor of receiving the RIMS Rising Start Award with her entire team present as well as her family. It was a super special moment for her. [5:01] Megan grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, so she says she's from Illinois. She lived in downtown Chicago for five years before relocating. [6:04] The awards ceremonies were scattered throughout the RISKWORLD 2025 week. Megan's award was presented right before the triple threat of keynotes. Megan and her parents enjoyed the keynotes. [6:50] Megan went from being a private company management liability underwriter at CNA Insurance in Chicago to joining Lloyd's as a Market Development Executive for the Americas and relocated to New York City in December. [7:22] Megan describes changing jobs and moving. It's been interesting. She went from being established in an insurance company where she knew everyone and knew her role to starting over, new and fresh. It's exciting, being in a new environment and company. [7:54] Megan says it comes with growing pains. Learning the tasks, trying to see the fun and excitement in them, and settling down in a new region has been super interesting and a great learning curve. [8:25] Megan was previously in the retail space. Now having exposure to the E&S wholesale world and more of the international space has been fascinating. It's a direction she wants to take her career, which inspired her to take this new role. It's been gratifying so far. [9:02] Megan says it has been bittersweet, leaving the Chicago RIMS Chapter. She first got involved as a student at the Katie School of Insurance at Illinois State. There, she met one of her greatest mentors, Theresa Severson. They've stayed in touch over the years. [9:29] After being involved as a student, she joined Chicago RIMS as a Membership Committee member and became Education Chair, then Vice President, and then President, right before she moved. There's a lot to say goodbye to. Starting over after being deeply involved is a switch. [9:58] Megan's teammates joked that she should carry the award around the RISKWORLD conference the entire time. [10:34] Megan believes the risk profession allows for flexibility to adapt. Everyone in the industry and at Lloyd's is keen to help and provide their experience. It's been a great way for Megan to learn about a new company culture and a new segment of the industry. [11:08] Justin notes that most people are not going to have one job for their entire career, although he knows one person at RIMS who has been there since 1981 and somebody at Spencer who goes back even further. [11:29] Justin adds that risk is a profession where there is such a camaraderie among the professionals that they will give you time to adapt. They will extend that olive branch. [11:49] Megan thinks it's important to give yourself grace and allow yourself to recognize that you're not going to know everything on the first day. You may jump into something new and think “I've got this,” but things like that take time. Give yourself grace. [12:25] At the RIMS Chicago Chapter, the energy in the group drove Megan to get involved and come up the ranks. At the start, event attendance was low. One successful event was the Summer Mixer with the Young Risk Professionals group and the Insurance Associates group. [13:18] There were over 250 folks who attended. Seeing the demand of young professionals to network and get together on an afternoon was an awesome experience. Megan is thankful she got to be part of it. [14:25] A big part of the Chicago RIMS initiative was to have separate membership events, education events, and social events. It's easy to get people to come to social events but education events can be tougher. They tried to keep them interesting. [14:42] One educational event Megan found valuable was the MBA Information Night with a panel of four. Two represented RM&I MBA programs; two were alumni of RM&I MBA programs. To hear from them and get their experiences and advice about continuing education was great. [15:15] They hosted Negotiation Workshops and Book Clubs. One book was Atomic Habits by James Clear. Megan has kept a few key takeaways from that in her day-to-day routine. They do a variety of events through RRP. It's nice to see the support of that with the members. [15:54] Plug Time! RIMS Webinars! On June 5th, Zywave joins us to discuss “Today's Escalating Risk Trajectory: What's the Cause and What's the Solution?”. [15:59] On June 17th, Origami Risk returns to present “Strategic Risk Financing in an Unstable Economy: Leveraging Technology for Efficiency and Cost Reduction”. [16:10] More webinars will be announced soon and added to the RIMS.org/Webinars page. Go there to register. Registration is complimentary for RIMS members. [16:21] About the Spencer Educational Foundation's Grants program. Spencer's goal to help build a talent pipeline of risk management and insurance professionals is achieved, in part, by its collaboration with risk management and insurance educators across the U.S. and Canada. [16:38] Since 2010, Spencer has awarded over $3.3 million in General Grants to support over 130 student-centered experiential learning initiatives at universities and RMI non-profits. Spencer's 2026 application process is now open through July 30th, 2025. [16:59] General Grant awardees are typically notified at the end of October. Learn more about Spencer's General Grants through the Programs tab of SpencerEd.org. [17:09] Let's Return to Our Conversation with RIMS 2025 Rising Star, Megan Smalter!  [17:18] As a Market Development Executive at Lloyd's, Megan engages with key trading partners, whether retail or wholesale brokers in the U.S., making sure that they know how to access Lloyd's in the London market. [17:51] Megan engages with insurance carriers who are interested in coming onto the Lloyd's platform, managing agents, excess lines associations in different states, and universities (one of Megan's favorite aspects of her role). [18:11] Since Megan was a student who studied risk management and insurance, she loves helping out with the next generation and trying to pull talent into the risk field. [18:19] Megan also promotes the Lloyd's Lab and helps with the Lloyd's Boot Camp Programs in Chicago and San Diego. She has a multi-faceted role and gets to touch a lot of aspects of Lloyd's which has been interesting. [18:45] Megan is part of a team representing the Americas, with people in Toronto, Canada, Miami, Florida, and Brazil. [19:10] Justin and Megan spoke in April for the article in the Awards Edition of RIMS Risk Management magazine, which may be out now. Megan mentioned that she is a calculated risk-taker. [19:38] Having a background in underwriting has helped Megan to think of questions to ask whenever a different situation or scenario has been proposed. She walks through the different exposures and thinks through things that the Average Joe probably wouldn't. [20:03] Megan says, the bigger the risk, the bigger the reward. Moving to Lloyd's in New York is an example of a high-risk, high-reward scenario that worked for Megan. She had only been to New York City once, for a conference. [20:30] When Megan looked for an apartment, she signed, sight-unseen, after a video call with the REALTOR® and a search of the area on Google Maps. She took a leap of faith and hoped for the best, but expected for the worst. It turned out in her favor. It's the biggest risk she has taken. [20:58] Megan's career goal for now is locking into Lloyd's and getting to know the nitty-gritty of the “Lloyd's-isms.” Learning the niche aspects of what Lloyd's is, the capital structure, and all the different facets of what Lloyd's has to offer to articulate that to its trading partners. [21:37] Megan is a success story, dating back to the Risk Manager on Campus program, which is how she got hooked. Not every school has a Risk Manager on Campus program.  [21:53] Megan advises young students who are considering the risk management and insurance industry, first to ask questions and ask for introductions. If there's someone who has a role that you're interested in, reach out. Everyone in the industry Megan has interacted with is so nice. [22:30] Especially get to know folks who do jobs outside of what you're considering. If you have an internship in property, get to know the liability folks and the cyber folks, the claims adjusters, and anyone else in the company, and learn what they do. [22:49] The career path opportunities are what drew Megan to the risk management field and how you can always pivot into a different segment of the industry. That keeps it exciting. [23:07] Special thanks again to RIMS 2025 Rising Star, Megan Smalter. You can read more about her in our RIMS RISKWORLD Show Daily Coverage. A link is on this page. Of course, be on the lookout for the RIMS Risk Management magazine Special Awards Edition 2025. [23:27] More award winners will be on RIMScast soon. Season 18 Episode 10: A left-handed opener from Perth who grew up idolising Justin Langer, in Marcus Harris you have a player who was meant to fit a certain mould. But over his long professional career, which started in 2011 when he smashed a big ton as an 18-year-old in his third game for WA, the 32-year-old has been on a journey that has seen his game evolve into the finished product following stints in the Test team. County cricket has been a significant part of that. Prophecy Radio episode #131 brings Karen and Kristen to discussing the penultimate two chapters of Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods. They also highlight some upcoming YA/Middle Grade books from RRP authors and talk some exciting other news, too. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:18:28) Check out this article about where Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 ranked on Disney+ last year! Karen compiled a list of current releases and upcoming releases from all of our favorite RRP authors. You can see that list here on Insta! While you're on the Insta, make sure to check out all the Dreamslinger swag that Karen received after signing up on Graci Kim's website a couple weeks ago! Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:24:55) Time to jump into chapter 32! Which is more upsetting: The gods treating their kids like pets or NOT BRINGING THEM LEFTOVERS?! Easy exit from Olympus Percy specifically mentions not telling anyone at camp about this, which explains why we never heard anything about this adventure before. Grover was the second-most stressed out he's ever been. Grover offers to run Annabeth's hat back to her so Percy can get to school ASAP. Godly parents can call you in late, too. We all love Paul Blofis. Poseidon keeps an eye on Percy… for better or for worse. It's time to talk about our favorite lines and favorite moments from this chapter! And now its chapter 33 time! Eudora stops Percy on his way to class. She is not a Poseidon fan, but Percy talks her off the ledge. Do-it-yourself recommendation letters (AKA blank godly paper) are all the rage. She expects some credit for her work in Percy's letter when he writes it. Blue jolly ranchers are the best, clearly. Percy hasn't done the reading, but he's still happy to be in class. It's nice to have a moment to appreciate the mundane. Time for our favorite lines and favorite moments from this chapter. This week George Goncalves, MUFG Head of U.S. Macro Strategy, walks us through some of the key topics and our views from the November monthly report, US Macro2Markets Outlook: Markets feel adrift post-election, now what? George reiterates the house call that the Fed will likely deliver another 25bp cut for 2024, bringing the total to 100bps of cuts for this past year. We think since this is the last 25bp remaining cut, that was part of the September SEP forecast, why skip it. Furthermore, the FOMC minutes were dovish and flagged that market functioning is now in focus (with the Fed thinking about reducing the RRP rate by 5bps) why skip at year-end and create unnecessary volatile during an illiquid period for broader markets. Not to mention skipping now could come off as political since its in their forecasts from before the election outcome. The only way the Fed does not deliver a cut is if the NFP data meaningfully beats expectations and the prior weak reports get revised higher. We are skeptical that the latest NFP report will be strong given that the data collection period was during the election week when the focus was elsewhere for most in the US. And let's not forget recent labor market trends have been decelerating.   Further afield we believe the Fed will cut another 75bps in 2025, where we expect them to skip in January after the inauguration, and then cut once per quarter in March, June, and September bringing rates into the upper 3% levels. We note that there are many different possible Fed rate paths once we get past mid-2025, as there are a variety of Trump policies that could alter the economic landscape. If the economy were to weaken and not respond as quickly to Trump's pro-growth policies, or worse, the tariffs and immigration policies lead to reduced growth, our bias is for the Fed to cut more. We expect the full interest rates curve to steepen, starting in Q1-2025 (with the 2yr reacting to the Fed still in cutting mode) and continue through the end of the year, as the focus shifts to how the US will allocate and fund US Treasury debt. How the US handles the deficit and debt ahead will also be a main focus of the incoming new Treasury Secretary.

After learning how he really works, we reached out to him to explore the impact of this article as well as what his model is for working with these individuals.  Reflecting on the NY Times Article: Is Cutting Off Your Family Good Therapy? ·      Patrick was interviewed due to his viral videos and online presence on YouTube ·      He talked with the interviewer about the process of Going No Contact and his work with childhood trauma survivors ·      He felt like the process took a turn into his personal story and then sensationalized his work ·      There were a number of duplicate articles (even in different countries) that led to misunderstanding of his work and hurting clients who have made the decision to go no contact with abusive family members What is RRP (the Relationship Recovery Process)? ·      Work to finishing business with family members ·      Reclaim intimacy ·      Group Psychotherapy focused on normalization of the experiences of survivors of abusive families and childhood trauma ·      The work can include individual work prior to joining the group ·      Late in the process (potentially years into the process) a client may make the decision to “get distance” from their family if they are not able to continue their healing process due to ongoing triggers and abuse ·      Patrick is doing research on the RRP model and will be publishing those results soon What is the process for Going No Contact with family members? ·      It is a very complex decision, usually after communication with family members has not led to any work on their part and repeated boundary crossings that make it impossible for a client to continue their work to heal ·      It is better to transparently and clearly communicate the decision to go no contact, rather than ghosting family members, when safe and possible ·      The decision to go no contact does not need to be total or permanent. You're going to love this avocado whip. Double the recipe so you can enjoy it as a dip for corn chips and/or crudités, on toast, or dolloped in tacos. Use whatever herbs you have on hand. We love using rocket and/or coriander. Margo Flanagan of Two Raw Sisters offers up a recipe for Eggplant and Avocado Whip from their new cookbook ‘More Salad' - now available in stores. Ingredients 2 eggplants, cut into bite-sized chunks 3 tablespoons cooking oil 1 teaspoon sea salt Avocado Whip 1 avocado 1 cup chopped fresh herbs 1⁄4 cup extra virgin olive oil 2 tablespoons hulled tahini 2 garlic cloves, crushed juice of 1 lemon 1⁄2 teaspoon sea salt 100 g (3 1⁄2 oz) feta, crumbled 1⁄4 cup chopped fresh herbs 2 tablespoons dukkah 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil Method Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Toss the eggplant chunks on a baking tray with the cooking oil and salt. Roast for 25–30 minutes. While the eggplant is cooking, make the avocado whip. Process all the ingredients in a blender until smooth. (Alternatively you can use a stick blender.) To assemble the salad, spoon all the avocado whip onto a flat, round plate. Use the back of a spoon to distribute it evenly around the plate. Arrange the eggplant chunks on top. Sprinkle over the feta, then the herbs and dukkah. Drizzle the olive oil over just before serving. Leftovers will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Extracted from More Salad by the Two Raw Sisters. Derek Moore and Jay Pestrichelli, CEO of ZEGA Financial discuss the idea that the stock market is in a Goldilocks period based on sustained higher margins and earnings growth. Then, they discuss how out of the headlines the Fed has already started easing by reducing their balance sheet runoff each month. Why reducing the Overnight Reverse Repo usage (RRP) isn't restrictive but rather was a reaction to demand for short term treasuries by money markets. Later they talk about how interest rates are below long run averages despite what everyone tells you on CNBC and why high rates may not be a problem. Finally, they look at corporate earnings and profit margins for the S&P 500 Index and how they've growth over the years, gold prices vs oil prices as a predictive model, and yes some shipping container inflationary commentary.   Growth in S&P 500 earnings per share analyst projections How net profit margins for the S&P 500 Index companies has growth over the years Why this might be a hated bull market despite some goldilocks market aspects What could derail this market? In Episode 357 of Hidden Forces, Demetri Kofinas speaks with the CEO of CrossBorder Capital, Michael Howell, about the run-up in gold and bitcoin prices and whether this signals the return of "money printing" driven by overwhelming government debt and deficit payments. Michael Howell has had the most accurate economic and financial forecasts of any analyst Kofinas has spoken with in the last several years. Demetri asked him back on the podcast to help explain why risk assets continue to outperform despite higher interest rates and what new all-time highs in gold and Bitcoin signal about global liquidity and investor confidence in the integrity of fiat currencies as reliable stores of value amid skyrocketing government debt and deficits. In the first hour, Michael breaks down the indicators he relies on to make his forecasts and why he expects economic growth and inflation to reaccelerate this year and into 2025. In the second hour, Howell forecasts which assets and asset classes he thinks will outperform, the direction of interest rates, the steepening of the yield curve, and how the expiration of the bank-term funding program (BTFP), the draw-down in the reverse repo facility (RRP), and a temporary decline in liquidity from tax payments could create buying opportunities for investors over the next several months. As the new year unfolds, resolutions often falter, particularly those related to food habits. Acknowledge this truth with gravitas—most diets fail most of the time. Neuroscientist Dr. Jud Brewer challenges conventional weight loss wisdom, exposing the myth of willpower from a neuroscience perspective. In his third podcast appearance (RRP episodes 471 and 586), Dr. Brewer, Brown University's Mindfulness Center director and School of Public Health and Psychiatry professor, delves into his latest book, The Hunger Habit. Drawing on two decades with thousands of patients, he advocates attention, mindfulness, and curiosity for healthier choices. Evolutionarily, our brains, seeking certainty, create habit loops with triggers, behaviors, and results. The reinforcing dopamine spritz forms a stubbornly resistant, recalcitrant loop. Dr. Brewer scientifically addresses breaking these habits. Today, we explore the neuroscience of habits, dopamine's role, the absence of willpower in behavior change, and the importance of self-acceptance. Note: This discussion may be confronting for those with eating disorders; seek help at www.nationaleatingdisorders.org. Dr. Brewer's blend of Eastern traditions and hard science provides practical solutions. This episode is a must-listen if you're wrestling with cravings or food compulsions.
