Welcome back to Part 2 of my conversation with Bernie Keogh on her Podcast  YayCanDo. YayCanDo is a podcast about possibility, embracing our humanity and letting go of limiting beliefs in our lives. Today we discuss the science behind adopting a gratitude practice, why there isn't a ‘one-size-fits all' approach and why it's important for each individual to find their own recipe for inner contentment. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did!” Bernie Keogh is the co-founder and co-host of the YayCanDo Podcast. She is also the Managing Director of A Lust For Life, a multi-award-winning charity on a mission to empower future generations to be effective guardians of their mental health and well-being. Additionally, Bernie is also the Founding Director of We Love People. This Dublin, Ireland-based organisation offers a combination of HR Management Services and Executive Coaching on a per-project or long-term basis to CEOs and their executive teams. With over two decades of business experience, Bernie is committed to empowering others to believe in their potential, become leaders of their own lives, and build exciting sustainable careers. As we talk about the science behind adopting a gratitude practice, we discuss the difference between objective and subjective evidence and why they're both important. We discuss the benefits of adopting a gratitude practice, why there isn't a ‘one-size-fits-all' approach to developing a gratitude practice, and why it's important for each individual to find their own recipe for inner contentment. We share our own daily gratitude practices and how they got us through some of the most challenging times in our lives. We also discuss the difference between taking life's challenges in stride and what true resilience is, and why taking care of ourselves first is critical to better care for others. “Resilience is being able to meet life's challenges and process them, ideally, in a healthy way. That means meeting the pain of them, accepting that, and still finding the will to go on.” – Bernie Keogh This week on In the Doctor's Chair: The benefits of adopting a gratitude practice Objective vs. subjective evidence Finding your own recipe for inner contentment Our daily gratitude practices How people often normalize and minimize major life challenges Understanding what resilience truly means The importance of taking care of ourselves so we can take better care of others Resources Mentioned: Book: Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams by Mattew Walker, PhD Connect with Bernie Keogh: Website: A Lust For Life Podcast: YayCanDo YayCanDo on LinkedIn Bernie Keogh on LinkedIn   In the Doctor's Chair Thanks for listening to In the Doctor's Chair, the show where you'll hear conversations that share life lessons, health habits, and leadership practices that focus on positive psychology, lifestyle medicine, and ways for you to live with more vitality. Have you truly experienced the grace of God? How can you tell? This week we continue our look at how to respond to God's grace by loving people according to his commandments. Sermon Outline: I. We Love People by Showing Honor. II. We Love People by Promoting Life. III. We Love People by Practicing Sexual Integrity. IV. We Love People by Respecting Property. V. We Love People by Upholding Truth. VI. We Love People by Desiring Their Good. Sermon Discussion Questions: 1. Read 1 John 4:20-21. Why do you think we cannot say we love God while not loving our neighbor? 2. The call to honor our parents is rightly extended to all who are in authority. What does an unwillingness to honor authority tell us about our heart condition? 3. The command not to murder calls us to the protection and promotion of life, both our own and others. What opportunities do you have on a regular basis to actively love your neighbors this way? 4. What are some of the various ways we can bear false witness against our neighbors? What are some ways that we steal from others? 5. The final commandment has to do with ultimately desiring the good of others. How is it that the gospel frees us from being concerned with ourselves to being concerned with the good of others?
