It was far from being a prediction. It did hold up in many conversations. It’s a moment we all knew would arrive. In being here now we have to decide. If we say yes does it mean we’re helping out future generations? If we elect to say no do we come across as selfish and cowardly. On this podcast episode we find ourselves growing into a new pair of new normals. I was invited to participate in a Covid-19 research project. Immediately I asked my waking self, “How close would you travel to a deadly pandemic before you’d turn your boat around?” Our neighboring county had a 320% increase in Covid-19 cases on Tuesday. Local officials are freaked out. Startled! Really? They have to be seeing what the rest of us have. No masks. No social distancing. A lot of shopping. Running around. Playing like its 1999. I asked on Facebook last night, “Who has to die in your life for you to finally realize that this isn’t a conspiracy? This isn’t fake news. This isn’t going away with the way.” We all have a voice in this situation of urgency. Including the internet trollers that will bombard me with every negative known to man. Who? What? Where, why and how? These questions need real answers. We’ve been playing the guessing assumption game for too many weeks. There are no experts! They are chance takers. They see an opportunity and bravely take a step. We are in a recession that can’t recover until Covid-19 is locked up and lost. In saying this why wouldn’t I say yes to the research group doing the study? Would you? Could you? I guess I’m having huge memories of the Swine Flu vaccine from the 1970’s. It didn’t go right in the beginning. We all want your job and career to begin a process of new growth and progress. But it can’t until Texas, Arizona and Florida quit checking in with Covid-19 numbers well over 2,000 a day. I wrapped up the Facebook thought with this thought, “Don’t let your ego be greater than God. It’s coming across that you’re fighting him. You’re taking on the maker. Let me know how he or she reacts. As for the Covid-19 research? We’ll never know the early results because everything’s a secret. You may or may not be getting what could or may not make us better. Grow forward and outward. Walk in peace.

Gaston Stabiszewski (pronounced stah-bih-shev'-ski) is a writer, actor, director, filmmaker, improvisor, and musician, or, as the art world refers to such Jacks-and-Jills-of-all-trades, a total Gaston. Fresh off the back of an award-winning trip to Paleochora Lost World Short Film Festival where his short film Luftholen - Take a Breath picked up the award for best casting, a tanned Gaston sits to muse with us on the relevance of The Base Reality. After a riling debate about what precious items he'd scurry to save should his apartment suddenly catch fire, Gaston muses with us on the relevance of The Base Reality (the Who? What? Where? of an improv scene) in the real world. The conversation takes a turn to the political as we take The Base Reality off stage and see how it applies to parties, relationships, and issues of immigration and climate change. Our most serious episode yet is nonetheless lightened by the absurdity of improv scenes where a campaigning politician wants to keep everyone, including his pizza delivery guy, in the dark about everything, and where a Berliner desperate to find an apartment must navigate the ins-and-outs of living with roomies who are literally from beyond this world. And if that doesn't sound silly enough, wait till you hear us all bust a flow in one of our favorite improv games, "Bad Rap." Check out gastonstabiszewski.com for all things Gaston Stabiszewski related, including his films and shorts, and be sure to find him playing on an improv stage near you with his improv troupes Skeleton Brains, Fünfdollar, and ComedyShorts Berlin. As always, thanks for listening, and be sure to follow us on instagram at @henriandblake for a sneak peek of the next episode of "Improvise Till You Make It!" and to keep posted on all the exciting ways we continue to spread the improv mindset.
Episode 31 Are you afraid of the dark? Or just the aliens hiding in the shadows? The usual trio have another go at Who/What/Where, and the tactics are as important as ever. You'll never believe what happens!
