This week on Black on Black Cinema, the crew returns to announce the next film to be reviewed, the 2019 film, "Black and Blue" starring Naomi Harris, Tyrese Gibson, and Frank Grillo. The movie follows a rookie New Orleans police officer who is forced to balance her identity as a black woman after she witnesses two corrupt cops committing murder. The random topic this week is why Black people have largely sat out the major national protests that are happening in response to Donald Trump's disastrous first few months in office trying to implement his MAGA agenda. From financial upheaval to draconian immigration policies, the last few months have been nothing shy of awful. So why are Black people staying home? We give our thoughts.

What's this?  Yet ANOTHER movie/series about a married couple who are also spies?!? :o Yes this thriller is about a couple of British spies who both work for the same intelligence agency and apparently there's a dangerous leak which has occurred at this agency.  One of them has been tasked with finding out who the leaker is while the OTHER might actually be the prime suspect....uh-oh, could be silly! :POr maybe not as it's written by David Koepp (Jurassic Park, Panic Room), directed by Steven Soderbergh (Out of Sight, Erin Brockovich, Ocean's 11), and features a top-flight cast of talent including two-time Oscar-nominee Michael Fassbender (Shame, Steve Jobs) and two-time Oscar Winner Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth, Tar) as the married couple.  The cast also includes rising stars Rege-Jean Page (Bridgerton) and Marisa Abela (Industry) along with two acclaimed alumni from the James Bond franchise, Pierce Brosnan and Naomi Harris.  Sounds intriguing....Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

For the third year in a row, Bonjour Chai is proud to present the Great Canadian Seder, a coming-together of notable and insightful Canadian Jews from across different demographics and denominations. Why is this year different from all other years? Because seders across Canada will likely be marred, like any good family gathering, by some kind of political argument over Israel. How should you navigate these murky waters and keep the peace while leaning back in your chair over a few cups of wine? And as haggadah-writers co-opt the Passover story for myriad unrequested adaptations, does this change whether the stories we tell should be universalized for broader audiences? To hear answers, stories, musings, anecdotes and teachings, we're joined by prominent seder guests from around the country: Emil Sher, author and playwright Dahlia Kurtz, radio host Zachary Paikin, foreign policy researcher Gila Munster, drag performer Marsha Lederman, author and Globe and Mail columnist Michael Weisdorf, CEO, The CJN Jonathan L. Before it became the glamorous playground of rich celebrities—and before Lincoln Road Mall's humble shops were replaced by designer boutiques—Miami Beach was a popular and affordable winter destination for low-income Jewish snowbirds, who flocked from Canada and the northern U.S. to escape the winter months to fill up the low-budget Art Deco hotels. It's a world that's long since disappeared. Toronto-based photographer Naomi Harris is now paying tribute to that time—and to a group of feisty seniors whose lives she documented while she lived among them in a hotel from 1999 to 2002. Haddon Hall is her new book, named for the South Beach lodgings where she snapped portraits of the Holocaust survivors, pensioners and widows. She joins The CJN Daily to explain why too many people overlook senior citizens because of ageism, and why her photos capture their joy. But before looking ahead to 2022 and the highly anticipated 60thanniversary of our favourite film franchise, we'll spend just a couple more weeks looking back at the undisputed highlight of 2021, No Time to Die. Much like last week when Emery and Jason a delightful roundtable, Matt and Edgar do the same with a new trio of guests. And what a band of Bond aficionados we've offered the mics to. Mike Reyes of Cinema Blend and established “Bond expert”, Bill Koenig of the Spy Command blog and pop culture historian, and Alan J Porter, co-author of The James Bond Lexicon and member of the On Her Majesty's Secret Podcast fleet of shows. With so many great minds together in one virtual room, it's no wonder the breath of topics was wide: absentee guests due to hair salon appointments, doing a Naomi Harris double-bill with Venom 2, aunties betraying their nephews, getting biblical (No no, not that! Just listen to the episode…), CGI body parts, parents beating their Bond villain children, shots of pregnant women in 3D, and NEVER, EVER saying you have all the time in the world to a loved one. So sit back, relax, and begin 2022 with us with our next to last episode reviewing NTTD, until of course Matt and Edgar do the traditional 2-part 4 hour long scene-by-scene review some time down the road. When Daniel Craig was announced as the sixth James Bond, the media had a field day. He wasn't tall enough, good looking enough, lackluster, underwhelming, a "Blond Bond?" Rubbish. In the mind of a vocal minority that was blown way out of proportion, Craig did not fit the traditional stereotype of what a Bond actor should look like and took a thrashing for it. Nevertheless, he held his head high because he knew the work they were doing on "Casino Royale" was something special and would immediately shut down the naysayers. Sure enough, it did and that was the first time Daniel Craig subverted the Bond expectations. Perhaps it's therefore fitting that the man who was unlike anyone who came before would go on to continue reinventing and revitalizing the almost 60-year-old franchise culminating in the most Ian Fleming, yet least traditional Bond film"No Time To Die." Over five movies and fifteen years, Daniel Craig pushed the boundaries of not just what a James Bond movie should be, but what it can be. He proved to a world inundated with cheap, monotonous looking blockbusters that you can recruit people like Sam Mendes, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Cary Joji Fukunaga, Roger Deakins, Javier Bardem, Naomi Harris, Lea Seydoux, Jeffrey Wright, Christoph Waltz, Hans Zimmer, and countless others - the best artists in the world - to make these films. To prove that while not every film is guaranteed to be a "Skyfall" or "Casino Royale," you shouldn't settle for anything less than the very best. Blockbuster cinema can be prestige cinema if you try. With each of his five films, Craig, and to their credit EON Productions, helped bolster the artistic value that all modern blockbusters should have. Die" picks up after the events of "Spectre" with Bond and Madeline (Lea Seydoux) living in tranquility before it's all uprooted. Five years later, living peacefully in retirement, Bond is thrust back into the world of international espionage after his friend and colleague Felix Leiter (Wright) calls for his aid. While so much care is put into physically crafting these films, what separates Craig's tenure from the rest is the equal amount of care that goes into character and story. It wasn't always the plan to make each of Craig's five films interconnected, but as the series progressed, it felt inescapable to ignore the natural progression of the character. In so doing, Craig managed to get to the heart of Ian Fleming's iconic superspy mining the psychology of the character, comprehending the prose in Fleming's words, and having a fearless vision that says, within the trappings of a Bond movie, anything is possible, and it shouldn't be beholden to the exact same things that have come before. The way Craig interrogated the character and made bold choices that serviced his arc as a human being, thrusting him into our world, whether popular or not, is what resonates. see the status quo challenged, the changing landscape of our world represented on screen and the different ways in which we as humans choose to engage with it. These stories and these characters allow us as audience members to learn and grow from their experiences because we know and understand them. We trust them as Wright puts it. A Small Voice: Conversations With Photographers

Naomi Harris is a Canadian photographer and artist who seeks out interesting cultural trends to document through her subjects. Personal projects include Haddon Hall in which she photographed the last remaining elderly residents of a hotel in South Beach, Miami, Florida. For this work she received the 2001 International Prize for Young Photojournalism from Agfa/Das Bildforum, an honorable mention for the Yann Geffroy Award, and was a W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography finalist. Twenty years later the work is about to be jointly published in a book, also entitled Haddon Hall, by MAS and Void. For her next project America Swings, Naomi documented the phenomenon of swinging over the course of 5 years (from 2003 to 2008) all over the United States, attending thirty eight swingers parties in the process. This project was realized in her first monograph released by Taschen in 2008 as a limited collectors edition. A trade edition was released in 2010. Artist Richard Prince interviewed Naomi for the book, which was edited by Dian Hanson.Naomi then completed EUSA, a reaction to the homogenization of European and American cultures through globalization for which she visited and photographed American-themed amusement parks in Europe and European themed towns in America. The project was shortlisted for the Luma Rencontres Dummy Book Award in 2016 and ultimately published as a book by Kehrer Books in 2018.Other accolades include being awarded a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Photography in 2013, a Long-Term Career Advancement Grant from the Canada Council in 2012 and participating in the World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass in 2004.For her most recent project, I Voyager, Naomi embarked on a 70-day canoe trip along the fur trader's route in Ontario, Canada, accompanied by a guide and dressed in 19th century period costume inspired by the British painter Frances Anne Hopkins (1838 – 1919). The project includes self-portraiture and landscape photography and forms part of a much wider investigation into feminism, exploring the concepts of power, identity and sexuality.Naomi currently divides her time between Toronto and the USA where she is studying for an MFA in Studio Art at the graduate school of the University of Buffalo in New York state. On episode 162, Naomi discusses, among other things:Thoughts on social mediaDoing an MFA in Studio Arts and taking her practice in a new directionFacing the double whammy of gender disparity and ageismHaving a cloud over her head like Charlie BrownHer latest project, I Voyager.New book Haddon HallAmerica SwingsEUSA and the thorny topic of cultural appropriationExploring the theme of deathWebsite | Instagram | Twitter | Facebook“My timing is always off. Amber and Mark hit a rough patch while Robot hatches plans of his own and Cecil Stedman continues to pull stings to do what he can to try and stop Omni-Man after learning it was he who killed Earth's defenders.  Animation is still as strong as ever and the voice cast leaves nothing to be desired.  (9/10)   Army of the Dead   Zack Snyder is no stranger to Zombie films as he did 2004's Dawn of the Dead.  You'd be right to expect more from him on Army of the Dead.  You'd also be let down.  Army of the Dead has a host of problems- unanswered plot threads, characters missing in scenes, a ludicrous plot that sabotages itself with massive inconsistencies, etc.  BUT is IS Zack Snyder making an enjoyable film with Dave Bautista and Zombie cats.  Fun is a factor and does help to save this one.  (4/10)   Hosted, produced and mixed by Grayson Maxwell and Roger Stillion.  Guest appearance by Chris Bourghan and Amy Temple.  Music by Chad Wall.  Quality Assurance by Anthony Emmett. Could Daniel Craig and director Sam Mendes improve on the magic of Skyfall? Or would Spectre disappoint? In 2002, director Danny Boyle dipped his toe into the horror genre and released 28 Days Later, starring Cillian Murphy, Naomi Harris, Christopher Eccleston, and Brendan Gleeson. This zombie but not-zombie flick opens up with some amazing shots as Cillian Murphy (Jim) wakes from his hospital bed with no one in sight and walks through an eerily empty and desolate London. Soon enough, he stumbles upon some infected and is rescued by a couple of survivors, and so Jim and his new friends must now work together to escape the hoards and find a way to survive in this new dangerous world. Made for ~$8 million this flick brought in around $85 million globally, received many accolades, and scared the absolute shit out of a generation. But, does it hold up? Listen in as Jon, Colin, and Brent put up the barricades and determine if this one eats our brains or our time.

"In the moonlight, black boys look blue." Moonlight (2016) is directed by Barry Jenkins and took home the Oscar for Best Picture in 2017. The film follows Chiron, a gay black male growing up in Liberty City, struggling with poverty, love, acceptance, and his own sexual identity. Chiron's settings and people around him turn his life around drastically, influencing him for the better or worst. The journey to destroy the stereotypes for masculinity is beautiful crafted by Mr. Jenkins in this film. The movie stars Mahershala Ali, Naomi Harris, Trevante Rhodes, Alex R Hibbert, Janelle Monae, Ashton Sanders, Jharrel Jerome, Andre Holland. As a special treat, we have a guest, friend Ian Fulton explains what the movie meant to him growing up as a gay black male. Enjoy! "HOLD THE PRESSES! This just in..." Episode 19 of The Words Are Not Enough is a Bond 25 Emergency News Update! In this episode Griffin (@griffschiller) and Brody (@brodyserravalli) discuss the following:1. Bond 25 has found a DP* Earlier in the week, Variety's Kristopher Tapley broke the story that Academy Award-winning Swedish DP, Linus Sandgren (best know for La La Land and First Man) will be joining Bond 25 as Director of Photography, saying "It appears Linus Sandgren is shooting the next Bond". IndieWire has now confirmed this story, citing Sandgren himself as their source. 2. Seydoux to return* The Daily Mail's Baz Bamigboye reported that Cary Fukunaga had confirmed Lea Seydoux's return to the franchise, offering the concise comment "Lea will be returning".* Variety's Justin Kroll then corroborated Bamigboye's reporting, stating that a source had confirmed the story to Variety. * What this return could mean for 25 (continuation of Spectre's story) * What kind of role will Madeleine play in the movie (OHMSS-style death speculated among fans) - we weigh in * Confirms that Monica Bellucci probably won't be returning as rumoured (although does confirm they were looking to bring a Bond girl back for 25 - something Barbara Broccoli has been trying to do since TND)3. Casting call for two women and a villain* Kroll also reported that "EON is looking for two other actresses - one would play an MI6 agent who works with Bond and another, a mystery woman - as well as the Bond villain."* Alleged insiders then added that "Rami Malek was being eyed for the [villain] role, but his schedule on the last season of Mr Robot, which shoots from March through July, makes it unlikely he will be able to take the gig, even if EON offered him the part". * Does this mean Blofelwill not be returning as the villain?4. Harris, Whishaw, and Fiennes to return* In his conversation with Cary Fukunaga, Baz Bamigboye also confirmed that Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, and Naomi Harris would be returning as M, Q, and Moneypenny respectively. Cary seemed eager to work with the returning crew and the rest of the British talent likely to fill out the cast saying "You have some of the best actors in the world here, why wouldn't I have the best coming back?!" * Interesting that Rory Kinnear as Bill Tanner was not included in that list of MI6 regulars returning as he has been a staple of the Craig era Vauxhall.5. Cary Fukunaga suggested to be writing Bond 25 in addition to directing* In Justin Kroll's Variety piece, Cary Fukunaga is reported to now be writing Bond 25. In the article, Fukunaga is listed as the sole writer two times and no reference is made to any other writers. Bamigboye suggested that Purvis and Wade were on-board to write and that Fukunaga was having "major input" in the direction of the script, but this does not appear to have been based off of new information obtained during his interview with Fukunaga. It is very likely Bamigboye is basing this off of the uncited rumour that Bond 25 would be going back to using the Purvis and Wade treatment following John Hodge's departure. Fukunaga rewriting the film lines up with his earlier comments from last week about the film still being written. * Confirms earlier story that EON were looking for a writer/director for Bond 25 * If Purvis and Wade are in fact out - were EON looking for a writer/director because they were keen to rewrite/replace their original treatment6. Norway as a Bond 25 filming location* Norwegian outlet, Bergens Tidende, has reported that a filmed dubbed "B25" has applied for a 25% subsidy of costs intensive for filming in Noway. This was then corroborated by Norwegian film commissioner Adrian Mitchell who spoke to Oslo newspaper, Dagsavisen, and said the following "I can confirm that we have been in contact with... --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-words-are-not-enough/support

Chris and Fangs FX is who we call when we need teeth, but there is a lot more to Fangs FX than just...well...fangs! This is the first of a series of interviews Todd and I did at Monsterpalooza 2018, a three-day event in Los Angeles which was busting at the seams with visitors, demos and vendors. It was amazing, and Todd and I applied my Bela Lugosi makeup for the Rick Baker Tribute on the enormous PPI Premiere Products Inc stand. Blogpost: http://www.learnmakeupeffects.com/fangsfx/ We grabbed Chris for a chat outside the venue as it was far quieter than inside, and talked teeth, drill bits in the mouth, loose teeth, missing teeth and how much hiding in plain sight takes place. Making and fitting teeth requires the use of some pretty serious chemicals and hardware, and putting these things into performers mouths is a serious responsibility as you will hear. Fangs FX was established in 1984, and has an outstanding list of credits. If you have never heard of Chris or his team, then you will certainly have seen their work. Check out their facebook page and Instagram @fangsfx. Richard Coyle from BBC TV show 'Strange' which maks use of swelling provided by a dental plumper rather than an appliance. Makeup by Jan Sewell. You know who wearing some makeup by Mark Coulier. Nose wiped out digitally, teeth made grim practically. Michael Rooker from Guardians of the Galaxy, makeup by David White.   Demo by Mark Coulier, reimagining the Nosferatu style Barlow from Salems Lot. Makeup demo by Stephen Murphy for PPI. Model Ben Palmer.   A Cure For Wellness featured some neat teeth gags.   Paul Kayes' teeth for Mutti Voosht in 'Pan'. The test makeup with teeth in place for Paul Kayes character Mutti Voosht for Pan, cut ultimately. Makeup by me.   Spencer Wilding wearing a Rick Baker wolfman makeup and some oustanding Fangs FX Dentures. Tim Vine comedy sketch show wth removable tooth gag.   Naomi Harris in drama series 'White Teeth' missing the front four teeth - a worst case scenario for a practical tooth gag if all real teeth are present.   Gags, where something has to happen, move and perform on cue is a tough thing to pull off... ] ... but even a moving drill bit appearing through teeth live in-camera is another day for Chris and the team. The stuff nightmares are made of! As ever, email us at stuartandtodd@gmail.com or drop us a comment our facebook page. Remember to floss regularly! - Stuart & Todd.

Crank up the speakers and blast Madonna's Die Another Day because Episode #8 of The Words Are Not Enough is here!In this episode Griffin (@griffschiller) and Brody (@brodyserravalli) discuss the following:Tomorrow Never Lies* Ben Cooke returning for Bond 25 * In an apparent exclusive from Archive007, Daniel Craig's stunt double, Ben Cooke, has reportedly stepped into the role of Stunt Coordinator for Bond 25, replacing longtime Coordinator, Gary Powell.* Daniel Craig banned from getting romantic with Moneypenny * It seems the writing process for Bond 25 is in full swing. According to the Express, an anonymous LA source has claimed the following regarding the ongoing scripting process: “The production company have reached out to several writers to suggest plot ideas and twists for Bond in Daniel's final outing. They wanted ideas that had not been seen in their franchise before to try to shake things up. One idea was for Bond finally to move beyond flirting and one liners and actually share a romance with Moneypenny. But that idea was nixed as it would go against the whole relationship built up during their screen careers.” * This seems in line with comments Naomi Harris has recently made regarding her off-screen relationship with Daniel Craig and how their chemistry plays on screen: "Chemistry is something you either have or don't have, so its a real gamble when people cast you, because you just never know whether the chemistry's going to work. Sometimes you have couples who are dating in real life and they have no chemistry on screen whatsoever so you just never know. I am just lucky that it works with Daniel and I'm looking forward to coming back.” * While she doesn't outright state it, her comments seem to suggest a continuation of the platonic-but-flirtatious dynamic we have seen thus far in the series.* Fincher Interview: Maybe tackle a Bond film? * In a recent interview with Empire, David Fincher revealed that he would not want to do a Star Wars film due to the immense pressure; adding that he had discussed helming the upcoming Episode 9 with Kathleen Kennedy, but ultimately declined. * While this doesn't directly pertain to Bond, David Fincher is a name that has come up frequently surrounding the Bond franchise, but is an idea that has often been dismissed owing to Fincher's seeming aversion to franchise films. But with this news that he considered Star Wars, does this mean he may consider Bond at some point down the track?Q-Branch* The Man With The Golden Gun Manuscript Emerges * A one-of-a-kind author's proof of 'The Man With The Golden Gun' has emerged that contains Ian Fleming's revisions to his original manuscript for his final James Bond novel. The corrected typescript is 182 numbered pages of typed foolscap, with five further preliminary pages and a single sheet of suggested (later adopted) corrections by Kingsley Amis, all bound in a cloth folder. Authorial revisions in Ian Fleming's handwriting cover approximately 80 pages with further editorial revisions in green and black ink. Fleming's corrections are mainly quite significant, rewriting entire sentences, adding or removing paragraphs, etc* Becoming Bond hitting Blu-Ray & DVD on Nov. 14th* The Best of John Barry (AKA Bond) Concert in London * If you're in London on November 16, check out PHILHARMONIA ORCHESTRA's THE BEST OF JOHN BARRY - BOND AND BEYOND concert at the Royal Festival Hall. Today's guest joining us on the Join Up Dots show is a lady with a really eclectic career. In fact it's more like a group of careers, which has lead her to where she is today. She has worked as a radio and TV script-writer and a children's author for approaching 30 years. Her CV includes penning 2 series of an original prime-time BBC 1 sitcom The Crouches, a 10-year stint as a core writer for Eastenders and various engagements as a film Dialogue Coach and even raising from a child the current Moneypenny in the latest James Bond series. Yes, she is the mother of Hollywood actress Naomi Harris too. If that is not a enough she is also an intuitive and certified healing practitioner. Now the interesting thing for me, is how she confesses that since a small child she cold see that she was always looking for the thing that was uniquely her. A thing that lit her up inside and made her feel that she was on a path that is hers and hers alone. And this path, unexpectedly appeared when she visited a terminally ill young woman who rose out of a coma after she placed her hand on the woman's abdomen. She had joined up her dots, and now with her writing, and focus on wellbeing she is connecting all the elements of the last thirty years. So how did this lady born in Jamaica, find herself developing characters for such an English establishment as "Eastenders"? And does she see a change in the attitudes of the world, are we getting more open minded as we look for a different way of healing and looking after ourselves? Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Carmen Harris.
