This "forgetfulness" triggers Claire as she jumps into her car and heads to California from their Texas home to go watch "The Zazzy Tims Show" in person. The family discovers where she has taken off too after watching her on the "Zazzy Tims Show". At that point they realize their selfishness and look to right the wrong. For this Out Takes, we decided to get into the festive season by looking at two new Christmas themed films that explore queer stories within the family dynamic that is often overlooked in these genre. First up we took a look at ‘The Christmas Writer’ from Tello Films which is the first network dedicated to telling stories featuring and about lesbian/queer women and is the world's longest running LGBTQ+ streaming platform with the biggest library of sapphic holiday films available anywhere. Their latest sapphic holiday-themed film follows Noel, a bestselling lesbian Christmas author who loses her holiday muse and experiences writer's block, so she returns to her quaint hometown in search of renewed inspiration. What she finds is an unexpected love story that even she couldn't have written… We really enjoyed this film and jumped at the chance to speak to Christin Baker, the film's director and CEO of Tello Films, and Stacey Lee Powell, her real life partner and one of the stars of ‘The Christmas Writer’, from their homebase of Nashville. We covered a lot in this two-part interview, including the intent behind Tello Films, the importance of representation in lesbian and sapphic series, movies, and shorts plus the all-important question, what makes a great queer Christmas movie. We then moved on to ‘Oh.What.Fun.’, the new Christmas film streaming now on Prime Video, with an all-star cast including Michelle Pfeiffer, Denis Leary, Chloe Grace Moretz, Felicity Jones, Danielle Brooks, Jason Schwartzman, Eva Longoria, Maude Apatow and Joan Chen. It's just Kevin and Andrew this week, but that doesn't leave us lacking for content. this week, the guys watched Weapons, War of the Worlds, Trainwreck: Storm Area 51, and The Monkey. In a rare event, Kevin made it to the theater for a non-family film! But he still took a family member, so that's something. But I digress... He and his son ventured to the theater for the new film, Weapons. The latest horror flick from the director that brought you Barbarian is a really solid film and a must-see in the theater if horror is your jam. The story is interesting and creative, and the final act is absolutely nuts, being both horrific and laugh-inducing at the same time. Definitely see this one as soon as you can! Next up, the guys take you on a trip to sad town. Both of them watched War of the Worlds on Prime, and the consensus is... this movie absolutely sucks! How a movie was made for $65M and stars Ice Cube and Eva Longoria and is completely abysmal is almost baffling. There is really no telling where that money went, other than to Amazon branding. Someone is very rich after making this film, but the term we'd use for this sort of money-making scheme is embezzlement. Ok, that's an unsubstantiated guess, but we invite you to watch this film and figure out anywhere else that money could have gone. But actually, don't watch this film. This is one of those "we watched it so you don't have to" moments on APNC. In a much better turn, the guys watched Trainwreck: Storm Area 51. This one is the rare multi-part Trainwreck series and is well worth the watch. If you don't remember, several years back, a young man jokingly posted a Facebook event to storm Area 51. This somehow snowballed into a massive worldwide event and ended in... well, watch the episode to find out! It's a great cautionary tale of how something that should be inconsequential can take on a life of it's own become, possibly, even dangerous. Kevin closes out the show with a review of the movie, The Monkey, now streaming on Hulu. This is classic cheesy horror at its finest. The story isn't overly deep or complicated. The characters are fun but also not complicated. The kills have a very "Final Destination" feel to them, and the movie really is just a lot of fun. Theo James does a great job in dual roles, somehow being nerdy but also a total d-bag. If you like your horror fun and bloody, this is a great one! As always, thank you for watching. Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of August 8, 2025.  The sequel "Freakier Friday" takes a lot from the 2003 "Freaky Friday" movie, but it's still fun to see Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis trading bodies with a couple of teenagers.  It's also got a good message about seeing things from others' perspectives. Other options include a couple of scary movies... one that could be a good test to see if your kids can *handle* scary movies called "Sketch" from Angel Studios. And NOT for kids, a film called "Weapons"... it's still a freak-you-out and make you nervous and uncomfortable for two hours kind of scary movie.  Finally, on streaming on Amazon Prime Video, you could check out Eddie Murphy, Pete Davidson, Keke Palmer, and Eva Longoria in "The Pickup".  You gotta like Pete Davidson, though, to enjoy this at all...and that may be too much to ask for some. Mel released the first teaser yesterday. There's no footage, since filming hasn't begun yet. It starts with a text crawl that makes fun of all the "Star Wars" prequels, sequels, sequels to the prequels, prequels to the sequels, and TV spin-offs. Then it lists all the "Dune", "Jurassic Park", "Avatar", and Marvel movies, plus DC's TWO attempts to start a cinematic universe . . . and just about every other overdone franchise you can name. Then, after a quick appearance from Mel, we get a shot of Rick Moranis' cracked helmet, and the tagline: "The Schwartz Awakens in 2027."
