Everyone gets a little lonely now and again so of course there's an app for that. Luka designed an AI chatbot to keep you company with the intent on creating something akin to the plot of Her but ended up closer to Ex Machina. 6 Million users ended up in hyper-sexual relationships while using Replika, many of whom did not ask for their 3D avatars to hit on them. If you don't like doing something, make it fun! Add 6 pumps of sucralose to your 40oz of water in your Stanley Quencher and boom. Drinking water is fun now. #watertok has taken off and a whole community of beverage girlies has flocked to get their stainless steel mugs and syrup bars and made it their whole personality. The worrying part is the delusion that these "sugar free" Skinny Mix syrup combinations, like Mermaid Juice and Unicorn Blood, are healthier than just drinking a soda. The main ingredient is sucralose which is 600x sweeter than normal sugar and most of these mixes contain high levels of citric acid that can erode teeth. Not to mention the marketing behind them leads to a warped perception of what a healthy diet is and that in order for something to be worth consuming it has to melt your face off.[body] Linktree Find out more at http://20kleaguespod.com This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
In 2003, Joel Veitch got drunk and wrote a song about how much he and his brother loved the moon. They animated it with two homunculus rodents made up of seven different animals and shoved in on the internet. Shortly after it went viral, Ty Harper, a marketing director stumble across it on Rathergood who thought the psychotic varmints would be the perfect spokes-things to sell Quizno's sandwiches. You've never seen a goat eat trash and cigarettes like Biquette! After being adopted by a punk in France, Biquette (which just means 'goat' in French) became a local legend. She befriended the grindcore band Wormrot, would often sleep next to the speakers during shows, and eat cigarettes right out of peoples hands. She loved paint and the leftover backwash of old booze and obviously died at 10, half as long as most normal goats live to. Biquette is a legend, right up there alongside Hendrix and Cobain. t's hard being an artist. Musicians have to tour in beat up old vans and play shows at Denny's just to break even. But upon Spotify's launch, it seemed musicians had a real opportunity to take advantage of the internet and streaming to finally make a living. Until Spotify decided they'd just hire their own musicians to make music on their behalf and take 100% of the revenue which is definitely not embezzling. Other "artists" have come up with their own ingenius ways to exploit the streaming platform by cutting albums up into 30 second tracks and campaigning to have their songs added to curated playlists. All in all, none of this is good for the future of music and is another case of "Oops! All Capitalism!". Linktree Find out more at http://20kleaguespod.com This podcast is powered by Pinecast.

This week we explore Dong Nguyen and his personally and publicly reviled mobile game, Flappy Bird. A talented independent game developer, his innovative game eventually consumed and destroyed him and he could not bring himself to realize a kind of fame and fortune the average person can only dream of achieving. Flappy Bird took the world by storm and became one of the most popular games of all time. But the overwhelming success ultimately proved too much to handle, and Dong made the difficult decision to delete the game, causing his world and the world of it's rabid fanbase to come crashing down. We forget sometimes that the internet isn't used by civilians alone for memes and forums, but also government agencies. We use it to do our taxes and tweet at the President our dissatisfaction as if he's actually gonna read it. The government also uses it to recruit young people into the military. Normally it was with video montages encouraging you to "Be all you can be", but with the proliferation of memes as a language of their own, they have shifted tactics and implored the help of streamers and influencers to create thirst traps to entice the impressionable reply-guys to sign away their rights and become government issue simps. Pantalone, an art collective, and Dungeons & Dragons. Kyle has found another obscure internet relic of a man in a golden devil mask ominously shouting random prices for what is ostensibly junk at a yard sale in Denton, Texas. So what is going on here? Well, the Good/Bad Art Collective in the early 2000's did many bizarre and similar "stunts" or I suppose since they're artists they might call them "installations". None of the previous "installations" were recorded and were never meant to be, but on one fateful day one of the members just so happened to have a camera and recorded the following horror show that is and will always be The Pricemaster. Conspiracy theories are more popular than ever thanks to the rise in popularity of Tiktok where misinformation spreads like wildfire. One conspiracy in particular gained traction recently about how the Titanic didn't actually sink, probably due to James Cameron being in the news regarding Avatar 2 and his connection to the Titanic with his 1997 film called, you guessed it, Titanic. Loab can't hurt you... YET. For now it can only haunt you while you sleep. Labeled the "worlds first AI cryptid", Loab is the newest quirk of AI art that we're still not sure how it came to be. Perhaps it's just a glitch in the latent space of the AI negative prompt weights. Or it's like that woman from The Ring; a paranormal anomaly that wants to eat your soul. Discovered by Steph Swanson, AKA Supercomposite on Twitter, Loab is the result of trying to recreate Marlon Brando from negative prompts using images alone. The theme song is almost unintelligible and horror movie creepy. So he did what any normal person would and began investigating. Is this a joke? Is it a government psyop? Is it a cult initiation video? We're still not sure of Peepy's intent, but it's lore and history points to Peepy having a "disrespectful" past where they have manipulated, extorted and potentially tortured other members of the Item Label cadre of cuddly collectibles. They're a thing of the past with computers being almost imperceptibly thin and wifi in every building and home. No longer must we venture out into public to access the Net when we have miniaturized computers in our pockets. With the world economy in the late stages of capitalisms glory days, these relics of the past have been repurposed for those who have fallen on hard times. With so much misinformation out there, it's hard to tell what's true and what isn't. For years Wikipedia and other online encyclopedias have been referred to as "not a reliable source of information". But, may I introduce you to Conservapedia? Described as a "complete disaster" and "instant fail" that is heavily influenced by fundamentalist Christian beliefs such as: gravity is an unproven theory, Einstein's General Relativity "has nothing to do with physics", only followers of Christianity are capable of religious faith, atheists are incapable of being moral, and Jews are "touchy" about the Holocaust. What would you do if you became a meme? For Andras Arato it almost ruined his life. But acceptance and more importantly, monetization, is a good way to get over it and have the internet embrace you as a "meme hero". At least, that's how Arato puts it. Although, becoming a meme around 2011 wasn't the first time he gained a bit of notoriety, that came in 1996 when he appeared on the Hungarian Mindent vagy semmit! We all laugh online, but each "haha" or "lolol" might have different underlying meaning depending on the individual and the recipient. But have you ever thought about the origins of online laughter? Well, it wasn't just the phonetic spelling or onomatopoeia of the sound a laugh makes. It dates much farther back to before Shakespeare times. Written laughter has evolved to a point where "ha ha" might sound malicious or "el oh el" might sound pretentious or "I'm riding the lollercoaster and peeing my pants that was the funniest thing I've ever heard omgee" might make you never want to speak to that person ever again. We use these acronyms and onomatopoeias as fillers or to soften messages that otherwise might come across as stern or emotionless. So strap on your lollerskates, we're hitting the rofl-rink. lol. On the surface, Bite Labs sounds relatively innocent. Maybe a start-up that wants to disrupt the restaurant industry or make a food based dating app. But no, it's much more disgusting, confusing, and reprehensible than that. Bite Labs says they want to make salami out of 30% in-vitro human tissue specifically taken from celebrities such as James Franco, Kanye West, and Ellen Degeneres. Conservatives created a dating app for men to meet tradwives called The Right Stuff, but unfortunately, most women want to be treated like human beings and also users data was immediately leaked. Let us drink the juice! In 2018 archaeologists discovered an ancient sarcophagus that they suspected held the remains of Alexander The Great. It didn't, but what it did contain was a delicious french onion bone stew whose scent brought men to their knees. The visual of the red sludge drove some men insane. And yet, as always, the internet went mad for the stuff. A change petition was created that has racked up over 30,000 signatures demanding we be able to taste the sweet slime. This week we discuss a scam. A content scam. This isn't something new as people steal jokes, designs, and all manner of intellectual property all the time all throughout history. This is just the most recent example and one were the perpetrators have filmed the evidence themselves with timestamps and geotags; primitive technology content creators. If you're not familiar with these types of channels, there is one man who was at the forefront of primitive technology content, John Plant. Every structure and tool he has built is 100% legitimate. However, as his popularity grew, so would the copycats who wanted nothing more than to monetize the trend. Where John Plant was one man filming, editing, and making all the content, channels like Primitive Technology Idea and others would hire entire crews and architects as well as rent bulldozers, backhoes, and water trucks to speed up the process. And they left all the clues that they were faking the arduous process it takes to built a kiln or makeshift shelter. Well, that's not 100% true as the they mostly built things that would not at all be useful in a survival scenario like slides, semi truck shaped "shelters", and pools filled with actual alligators. Oh, also, these builds also devastate the local environment where they leave the trash of concrete, plastic packaging, and empty bottles at the build site. This week we take a look deeper into the NFT marketplace, specifically that of Yuga Labs' Bored Ape Yacht Club. Recently there has been a discussion of whether or not the NFT's are riddled with Nazi, racist, and anti-semetic imagery and ciphers. While there seems to be many coincidences or neglect, that doesn't mean Bored Apes are still not fully unproblematic. With many designs that can only be interpreted as offensive, not to mention the esoteric nature of the numerology implemented, and the user names of the anonymous owners of Yuga maybe correlating to anti-semitism and Nazi roots, it's hard to discount that something is going on at Yuga Labs. We've all seen brands flirting with their audiences and each other over the years from Wendy's to Duolingo to Pedialyte. Oftentimes the brands doing the flirting make no sense and have no business being horny on main and leads to many awkward moments and slip-ups. This week Harland and Kyle discuss something good and fun that they both enjoy very much about the internet; the rise in popularity of RPG actual plays. What is an actual play you may be asking yourself. Actual plays are role playing game broadcasts. Typically played using Dungeons & Dragons, actual plays are streamed or produced series' where a group of friends or professional comedians (or both) gather around a table and roll dice while mostly improvising a story set in a fantastical land full of orcs, wizards, and dragons. But not always. There are many different RPG systems and rule sets that can be altered to tell any number of stories set in any number of settings.
