It is a great encouragement to us that in love and obedience to Christ, we're called to walk in his ways. And for a heart that loves the Lord, this means that "his commandments then become their happy joys" (as we recently sang).

Still others hear the Word, but the cares of the world, the deceitfulness of riches, and other desires choke it until it becomes unfruitful. But there is also good soil. These hear the Word, receive it, and bear fruit thirtyfold, sixtyfold, and a hundredfold. Jesus therefore confronts every hearer with a searching question: How are you hearing the Word of God? Yet this passage is not simply an exhortation to try harder to become good soil. Christ is the faithful Sower and the living Word. He is the obedient and fruitful Son, and through His death and resurrection He brings forth a harvest of redeemed sinners. By His Spirit He softens hardened hearts, roots His people in Himself, frees them from the thorns of this age, and makes them fruitful by grace. Take care how you hear. Receive the Word. Trust Christ. Abide in Him. Bear fruit to the glory of God.

They were afraid during the storm, now they are very much afraid after the storm. Well what's worse than having a storm outside your boat, is having God on your boat. A real cause for panic.

WHEN GOLD ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH. [Heaven's Standard of Value]Matthew 6:19–21; 1 Peter 1:7; Revelation 21:21 KJV Deep beneath Manhattan, hundreds of thousands of gold bars are carefully guarded in the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Nations consider gold so valuable that they weigh it, verify its purity, record its ownership, and protect it behind enormous security. Yet the Bible tells us about things far more valuable than gold. Our faith is "much more precious than… gold." God's wisdom is better than gold. God's Word is to be desired "more… than much fine gold." And our salvation wasn't purchased with silver or gold, but with "the precious blood of Christ." Jesus therefore commands us not merely to accumulate earthly treasure, but to "lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven." One day every earthly fortune will be left behind. And when God's children enter the New Jerusalem, we will discover that the substance mankind spent centuries fighting to possess is beneath our feet—the street is "pure gold." What earth treasures, Heaven uses for pavement. The greatest treasure isn't gold at all. The greatest treasure is Jesus Christ. So, ask yourself: Where is my treasure—and where is my heart?

God's promises are certain to His own. He has cared for His people despite their willfulness. His patience expires and He will come in His fury.

Politics matters, but it was never designed to carry humanity's ultimate hope. Modern political movements increasingly promise identity, security, justice, transformation, and societal redemption. When people expect politics to provide what only Christ can give, political involvement becomes political idolatry and political power begins functioning as a false gospel.
