A Lesson on ”Goal Setting, The Spiritual Way”

I'm so excited to be back recording podcasts after taking over 6 months off to be present with my new born baby boy. I have not stopped thinking about content to produce during that time, and have a lot of thoughts to share in the coming weeks. To get us started, I thought I would share my process on goal setting, considering it is the new year after all. For me, the S.M.A.R.T. (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound) would drive me into tunnel vision, completely missing the journey of my life until I reached a goal, and then ... it was onto the next one. The never ending search to find whatever it was I was looking for. After I discovered that I wasn't looking for another tangible 'thing' or 'title', but the feeling I has associated with it that everything change. In today's episode, I share with you my process for achieving goals while still enjoying the day to day of my present moment. My hope is that you walk away with a sense of clarity on your path forward, and to make 2023 your most enjoyable year yet! In my life, I have given my personal power away to many people and circumstances along the way. Listening to others instead of myself, allowing them to define who I am, not honoring what I know is best, and the list goes on. This is a tricky one, as a lot of us have been raised to not 'stir things up' and to just please those around us. Welp, after time and time again, I am learning more and more that I have the power. I can choose to listen to the outside world, or I can honor my truth and proceed forward with what is best for me. This manifests itself in so many different ways, and the first step, as with most life lessons, is awareness of when it is happening. In this week's episode of Connect Back In podcast, I talk all about taking back your power and owning your life. No longer playing victim to things outside of you that you have given more validity to. Learning to trust that the wisdom within that will ultimately guide you towards the exact life that you desire. My hope is that you feel empowered to take back your power, even if it's a small step. As overtime, those small steps will turn in to leaps, teaching you to honor you above all else. Enjoy! I had the pleasure of connecting with Michelle Barr this past week after hearing her speak words of wisdom on Gina Devee's Diving Living podcast. After signing up for one to one coaching, she experienced some life changing results, and shares them candidly on that episode. I was then drawn to her own podcast, Working for Spirit Podcast, and was so impressed by Michelle's faith in the Universe that seemed to be water tight. Regardless of the circumstances, she has chosen the path of 'yes', knowing that all of her desires are meant for her, and that she has the power to attract whatever she desires. This strong belief system was so inspiring to me, and made me recognize some of the unhelpful stories I've had on replay over the past couple of months. It also made me really want to connect with Michelle to share her message with others. In this episode, Michelle talks about the path that led her to where she is today, the mindset that has brought her results beyond her wildest dreams, and how she still, after much success, hears the voice of fear pop in from time to time, and what she does to navigate through it. I believe the basis of what makes a decision challenging is that deep within we know what we need to do, but our fear brain is telling us otherwise based on beliefs that we've been taught, what society tells us is right or wrong, or breaking away from an identity you've held onto for too long. In today's episode, I talk through what making a tough decision looks like, what to expect, and ways you can support yourself through the process so in the end, you can trust your inner guidance and live a life that is meant for you. A few episode's back, I talked about how to surrender to our desires, and shared a few ways in which to do this, however, this week, I wanted to dive into it further. Our mind will ask, "what are the steps to letting go?" The reality is, yes, I can share with you the steps, but it isn't a mind game, it's a heart game. You can't take the path of the mind to get you to the space of letting go, it is dropping into your heart and soul that will bring you there. This is a crucial piece to not only enjoying life more, taking the pressure off knowing there is a bigger hand at play, but also to manifesting our desires. Step one, you ask through experiencing contrast (once you know what you don't want, you then know what you do want), step two, Source answers, and then step three (the most important step) you let go and allow in order to receive. Listen in as I share my best practices to letting go. My hope is that you connect to the benefit of allowing, and give yourself permission to let go so you can attract all the desires you're wanting to attract into your life. Enjoy! Do you relive the experience that caused you pain thinking that perhaps the more I think about this (over and over again), I will then find the solution to why this happened? If this is you, then you're in the right place. Today's episode of Connect Back In podcast is all about forgiveness. We've been taught that then when we forgive someone, we are 'letting them off the hook', and we should maintain our resentment because, "how dare they do that to us." In reality, we don't realize the pain we're causing ourselves by holding onto this negative thought pattern. Today we talk through why forgiveness is so important, what the process of forgiveness looks like, and some initial steps you can take to begin to release your resentful feelings. As I do every Holiday season, I recently enjoyed watching one of my all time favorite films, "It's a Wonderful Life". It is such a great story, and is a reminder that we have a choice in how we want to perceive our lives, no matter the circumstances. We can choose to be healed, to feel free, in joy, and love in an instant. As my mentor Alan Cohen states, we often times allow our ego to convince us that healing is just on the other side of 'X', for example: after I lose 10 lbs., once I get the promotion, once I make more money, once I get that house, that relationship, that ..... you get the idea. In today's episode, I talk through my favorite lessons from the movie (so spoiler alert if you have yet to see!), how we can apply those learnings to our own lives, and how we have the ability to give ourselves permission to be healed now, no longer giving the power to a circumstance outside ourselves in the future. My hope is that after listening, you feel empowered to say yes to healing now, as you deserve it. Enjoy!

Oh boundaries, I have such a new respect for you and all that you have done for my life. At first, I was so scared to use you in my life, but since adopting, life keeps getting better and better, as well as easier and easier. What are boundaries? To me, they are the areas of life that the word 'should' is generally attached to, and often times lead you to saying yes to something or someone, while saying no to yourself. You may think, "okay, whatever, that's not a big deal?" Yet it totally is. The impact of just one undesired yes can have a waterfall affect that creates a reactionary life where you're not supporting yourself, you're only supporting all that is around you. As I've said a zillion times, you cannot pour from an empty cup, so it is your job to put yourself first. I know, it's the opposite of what majority of us have been taught. So where do you begin? Well, first you can take a listen to this episode where I talk about the impact of not creating supportive boundaries, AND how you can begin to create them within your life. I have always believed this, yet when something I dislike would happen to me, I would ask, "why is this happening?", completely retracting this entire belief system. This statement also is under the illusion that things happen 'to me' instead of 'for me'. Recently, while reading Alan Cohen's book, "The Lifestyle's of the Rich in Spirit" he guides us to ask the question "Why did I create this"? When I read that, I had a deep ah-ha moment, fully recognizing that I hold the power over it all, each experience whether I perceive it as good, bad, or whatever.   In today's episode, I discuss more about how we truly hold hold the power to own our own lives. I break down how this concept works, and how you can begin to apply it in your own life, taking back the control and giving yourself the credit for the immense influence you hold on your life. Oh, limiting beliefs. What are they? Well, let's break down the two words. First, limiting, which according to Merriam Webster dictionary means, "functioning as a limit : RESTRICTIVE". Then, there's belief, which they describe as "a state or habit of mind in which trust or confidence is placed in some person or thing". So, once combined, a limiting belief is, "restrictive state of mind in which trust or confidence is placed". Here's the thing, we all have limiting beliefs, however, most of us are not even aware they are there. As I've said many times before on the podcast, once you have awareness of something, it loses it's power, because you're able to see it for what it is.   In today's episode, I talk through some example limiting beliefs, how to identify limiting beliefs of your own, how they are holding you back in life, and ways to break free. Well, let's get one thing straight, the ego isn't very creative and in most cases (even though we think our experience is separate from other's) we each feel fear when it comes to chasing our dreams. In today's episode, I break down what the process has looked like for me, some tips to help you along the way, and a bit more 'cheerleading' to convince you that yes, your dreams are meant for you, and yes, you can have whatever it is that you want. I believe that reflection is such an important process to life. We grow little by little, so much so, that we sometimes forget to recognize how far we have come. Today's episode honor's this process as I share the top lessons I learned from this past year that have supported my growth and well being. Will it mean you will have physically changed into something other than what you are? Or will you simply begin to see and think of yourself in a new way? A Lesson on "Be As You Are for Inner Peace"

I've recently come across a book by Anthony De Mello called, "Stop Fixing Yourself: Wake Up, All is Well", and it is the perfect read for where I'm at in this moment. I feel as though the past few years have been filled with seminars, group coaching, 1:1 coaching, books on books, podcasts, etc. all focused around trying to 'change' myself into the best version of me. As of recent, I've realized while all those activities were helpful and served a purpose, I didn't necessarily need them. The idea that we need to change or be fixed is the reason why we feel lost, constantly seeking and not finding. If we could redirect our thoughts to see ourselves like a flower, tree or star, that never questions it's worth, how differently would we be able to show up in this world? What peace would fall over us knowing that we didn't have to get anywhere, or become anything before we could find happiness? In his book he states: "The rose has a gift that you lack: It is perfectly content to be itself. It has not been programmed from birth, as you have been, to be dissatisfied with itself, so it doesn't have the slightest urge to be anything other than what it is. It possesses the artless grace and absence of inner conflict that among humans is only found in little children and mystics. Only the adult human being is able to be one thing and pretend to be another" In today's episode, I talk about becoming the observer to your thoughts, releasing attachment, and accepting ourselves and each moment for exactly what it is. My hope is that you find grace in these words, and perhaps even let yourself off the hook, allowing you to just be you, exactly as you are. Enjoy!

I know I have whether it was listening to a podcast, or reading a book like 'The Power of Now' by Eckhart Tolle. However, I still often find myself plowing through my days, tasking away, and focusing on my thoughts about the future, what's next versus embracing the only thing we have, which is the moment right before us. What is your relationship with the present moment? Do you connect with it or avoid it by simply being elsewhere with your thoughts? In today's episode, I talk about why being present is so important, and I share ways in which you can connect closer with this moment starting now. My hope is that you take away one thing that you will apply to your life, so you can begin to enjoy the richness that each moment brings when you're fully there. We often times disregard the most important relationship of our life, the one we have with ourselves. We can hold ourselves to standards that are impossible to achieve, ignore the signs our body is giving us, and just lack grace for the fact that we're human, and there is no such thing or measure as perfection. That's why in today's episode, I talk through ways in which we can shift our perception to be kinder to ourselves. Ultimately, the way we treat ourselves is the way we treat others, so it is crucial that we look at the one and only relationship that we'll have for the entirety of our lives. My hope is that after listening, you begin treating yourself with more kindness so that you not only enjoy your life more fully, but you give others the same treatment, making it a kinder world. Enjoy!   Quote shared in the episode from Jen Sincero's book, "You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life" “You are perfect.  To think anything less is as pointless as a river thinking that it's got too many curves or that it moves too slowly or that its rapids are too rapid.  Says who?  You're on a journey with no defined beginning, middle or end.  There are no wrong twists and turns.  There is just being.  And your job is to be as you as you can be.  This is why you're here.  To shy away from who you truly are would leave the world you-less.  You are the only you there is and ever will be.  I repeat, you are the only you there is and ever will be.  Do not deny the world its one and only chance to bask in  your brilliance.”

Oh worthiness. What is it? Well, according to Oxford Languages, it is the quality of deserving attention or respect. The thing they don't say, is who determines this? Is there a worthiness director, deciding who is deemed worthy or not? What are the requirements? I'm asking all of these questions so that you can see this doesn't exist. You are the only one that determines your worth or not. So if that is the case, how are you measuring your worthiness? Is it once you accomplish something? Once you get the salary, relationship, body, etc? What if you accepted your worth as your birthright? Just because. How would that change how you show up in the world? Well, in today's episode, I dive into some of the ways in which we hurt ourselves by giving our power away to external measures (job title, salary, body, relationship) to determine our worth. My hope is you shift your perspective into seeing that you're already perfect, and whole, just as you are. There is nothing more you need to earn or to prove. By seeing life through this lens, so much will begin to open up for you, as there is no pressure and you can just live to live, and be to be. Enjoy!

Who do you think you are? More importantly, what do you tell yourself that you are? In today's episode, I talk all about our self identity. While we are so much more than the words that we often use to describe ourselves (ie, Mother, Wife, Daughter, Woman, Man, Them, Realtor, Teacher, Author, Artist, etc.), it is important to take a look at these words, as they tie with them the meaning and 'labels' that society has defined them as, trying to fit us all into one complete package. Also, a lot of how we see ourselves is tied up in how other's see us, which is such a limited view of who we truly are. What if you decided to start with a clean slate when it comes to the story you tell yourself about 'who you are' vs. allowing the world to say that for you? When listening in today, my hope is that the messages shared make you feel empowered to revisit your identity, and perhaps shift things around a bit to serve you in a new way. Enjoy!

We've all heard before, especially if you're a returning listener to this podcast, that there is an inner voice guiding us in life to the most joyous experience possible. It knows what is best for you, and is always on your side. However, I have often heard others ask, "how do I know which voice is the right one?" Welp, let's just clarify here that there are def two voices, one is your highest self (inner guidance, source, the Universe, God), and the other ... well, without name calling, we'll just be frank and call it the 'ego'. In today's episode, I share with you the few common tricks that the ego has up it's sleeve, and how to identify them as such. What you'll begin to notice is that it's not very creative, and it generally throws at you the same negative thoughts, fears, and worries over and over again. The beauty of this is that once we're able to shine awareness on these common behaviors, it allows you to begin to recognize it's funny tricks and patterns, which then releases them from the hold they've had on you. Remember, the ego truly means well, as it is trying to keep us safe and alive, however, because of this, it can often hold us back on moving forward to the life we're meant to live. My hope is that this episode offers you clarity on which voice is which so that you can begin to listen to the one that will serve you. What the heck is an abundant mindset? You may or may not be asking yourself. Think 'glass half full vs. glass half empty'. It is a way in which we view the world, interpret information, and essentially live our lives. Have you done inventory on where your mindset is at? What are you telling yourself? What do you believe? If you focus on limitation, lack, worry, fear, it will only bring more of those things into your life (what you focus on, you create more of AND where your attention goes, energy flows). Thus, the worse it gets, the worse it gets. However, if you can get to a place where you can flip a coin to the other side and see possibility, more than enough to go around, and that you are fully supported, life get's so much easier. The better it gets, the better it gets. In today's episode I share some reminders on how you can to shift from a lack mindset (think Eeyore) to an abundance mindset (think Tigger). It's not about being happy all the time and avoiding feeling, as we need to feel what we feel. We're human beings and it isn't possible to not feel a sense of lack (see things from a negative lense) from time to time. However, it is about recognizing when it does happen, letting it go without attaching any guilt to it, and then trying again from this list of reminders. My hope is that it shifts your perspective even in the slightest way to bring you more joy and ease into your life, as that's what we're here for. Enjoy!

It can be hard to recognize these innate resources we hold sometimes, and it isn't because they aren't there, it's just that they've been masked by limiting beliefs or the traps of fear. My hope is that this episode shifts your perspective, even ever so slightly, so you can see all the magic you hold within you. Enjoy!

As someone who has big goals (desires) for themselves in this one and only life, it is certainly a beautiful thing that can bring forth so much joy and fulfillment, but on our way to them, we can sometimes lose sight of what having desires is all about. In this episode, I talk about why our desires are so important, why we want what we want, how to overcome perceived obstacles along the way, and how to stay on track when you feel like nothing is working out how you planned it. My hope is that this brings you back to the true essence of who you are, and that it reminds you to trust the process. Enjoy!
