Maximus Resources Ltd (ASX:MXR, OTC:MXRRF) managing director Tim Wither joins Proactive's Tylah Tully to discuss a reverse circulation drill program at the Bird Rock and Kandui lithium prospects in Western Australia as part of the Lefroy Lithium Joint Venture with Korea Mine Rehabilitation and Mineral Resources Corporation (KOMIR). The program includes 14 holes covering approximately 1,500 metres with nine holes targeting newly discovered spodumene-bearing pegmatites at Bird Rock and five holes at Kandui to further assess the continuity of mineralisation. The drilling at Bird Rock aims to understand the pegmatite's dip and direction. At Kandui, this third phase of drilling follows geological modelling and aims to explore large, spodumene-bearing pegmatites identified in previous phases. Although initial lithium grades were lower than expected, the discovery of fertile pegmatites points to potential high-grade zones. Notable previous intersections include 6 metres at 1.11% Li2O and 18 metres at 0.24% Li2O. Under the JV, KOMIR is funding up to US$3 million for lithium exploration to earn a 30% interest. Drilling results are expected within 3-6 weeks, and a site visit by KOMIR is planned for October. #ProactiveInvestors #MaximusResources #ASX #LithiumExploration, #LefroyProject, #LithiumMining, #Pegmatite, #KOMIR, #BirdRock, #KanduiProspect, #LithiumMineralisation, #RCDrilling, #Spodumene, #WesternAustraliaMining, #LithiumCaesiumTantalum, #MineralExploration, #MiningProjects, #GeologicalModelling, #LithiumBattery, #Kambalda, #MiningJV, #MiningDevelopment #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

Maximus Resources Ltd (ASX:MXR) managing director Tim Wither joins Proactive's Jonathan Jackson to discuss the results from soil sampling across Lefroy Lithium Project in Western Australia's Eastern Goldfields lithium-caesium-tantalum (LCT) province, discovering coarse spodumene-bearing pegmatites at the new Bird Rock Prospect. Soil geochemistry assays from field inspections of an elevated lithium-in-soil anomaly have identified several pegmatites under shallow cover, with coarse spodumene crystals up to 20 centimetres long. Assays from Bird Rock include significant lithium oxide percentages of 3.54%, 2.19%, 1.54% and 1.40%. Additionally, a lithium-in-soil anomaly of approximately 1.5 kilometres in length was identified at the project's Twin Fin Prospect. High-resolution drone imagery and LIDAR surveys have been instrumental in identifying high-priority targets for further field reconnaissance and sampling. Wither expressed enthusiasm about the discoveries, noting that the project-wide soil sampling has identified significant spodumene mineralisation at Bird Rock, an area not previously known to host LCT pegmatites. This discovery demonstrates the effectiveness of soil geochemistry in identifying spodumene-bearing pegmatites under shallow cover within the company's tenement holdings and the broader Eastern Goldfields region. The results from the soil sampling program expand the number of priority lithium targets at Lefroy requiring further exploration. The presence of spodumene-bearing pegmatites at the advanced Kandui Prospect and Bird Rock suggests potential for multiple large-scale lithium discoveries within Maximus' tenements. #ProactiveInvestors #MaximusResources #ASX #LithiumDiscovery, #BirdRockProspect, #LefroyLithiumProject, #EasternGoldfields, #LithiumMining, #SoilGeochemistry, #Spodumene, #Pegmatites, #MineralExploration, #LithiumOxide, #DroneSurvey, #LIDAR, #FieldInspection, #LithiumTargets, #WesternAustralia, #MiningNews, #ResourceExploration, #LithiumProvince, #TimWither #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

According to some of San Diego's finest food minds (umm, us), one of the hottest restaurants of 2023 is easily Bird Rock's Paradisaea. The Michelin Guide thinks so, too—it recently gave the restaurant, which opened in late 2022, a special recognition for being pretty damn good (and also new). A year or so is a good length of time for a restaurant to find its groove. Ideally, the service kinks will have been worked out, the menu will have found its footing. Paradisaea's first year also saw the departure of the restaurant's founding chef and culinary director, Mark Welker. Jeff Armstrong stepped in to take his place. Jeff will kick off 2024 with a new menu. We brought Jeff and his boss, Paradisaea's co-owner Zoe Kleinbub, into the studio to talk shop. Zoe is a native of Westchester County, NY. She moved to San Diego—where her husband Eric Kleinbub (also a co-owner) grew up—a handful of years ago. The Kleinbubs met moving around in San Francisco's food circles, and, once they arrived to our sunny shores, it became crystal-clear that they had to open a restaurant here. When an iconic Bird Rock piano store hit the market four years ago, the Kleinbubs instantly moved on it. What followed—the construction and opening process—was an intense labor of love. They tiled the interiors in Josh Herman ceramics and built an expansive open kitchen at the heart of the restaurant's dining room and operations. In this episode, we also talk about Zoe and Jeff's long history working together and how his entry into one of Zoe's kitchens has become a fortuitous union for everyone involved. We each take a few cracks at the restaurant's spelling, which is difficult to nail on the first try, even for a bunch of writers. We also bungle its pronunciation a few times, but by the end, we're flying (we promise), unnatural vowel combos hugging in tow. We also talk about the news: Jasmin and Richard Blais released Plant Forward, a cookbook not totally meatless or dairy-less, but instead centered around de-prioritizing meat on the plate; North Park 's hopeful pop-up success story, Long Story Short, is unfortunately no more after just a month of service; and The Busalacchis are back in Little Italy with Zizzo, an Italian cocktail bar serving pan-Mediterranean food. We also played “Which restaurant in North Park will open first?” which is always a fun and mind-bending exercise. Thanks for tuning into HHH this year. We will see you in 2024!

When I went to Padres games as a kid, a man stood 30 feet away from you and hurled a hot dog at your face. Maybe you got some popcorn whose best attribute was that it looked yellow and had enough salt to turn your insides into prosciutto. Oh, and you got some flat Coke. If you only drank sodas at baseball games in the 80s, you wouldn't know the product came with bubbles. To be honest, I kinda miss that hot dog throwing man. But I don't miss the food. Modern baseball food is worlds better. You got sushi and acai bowls and brisket sandwiches and designer tacos. The Padres have made a lot of great acquisitions of late, but one of my favorites was when they brought in Barrio Dogg and Grand Ole BBQ and Puesto—giving people a taste of some of the best local restaurants. And today David and I sit with an old friend and crush some of our favorite eats from Petco Park. He's a favorite human. Constant sayer of funny things. Mark “Mudcat” Grant has been a Padres broadcaster for 27 years. He and Don Orsillo are in the booth 162 games a year, narrating every Padres game. For fans, they're like extended family, or constant friends who show up in your living room to talk ball and life. Mud and I talk about his career, the 2022 team, how Tim Flannery taught him a mindblowing lesson on perspective in life (ommmmm), and all the food. For news, we talk about the opening of Little Thief and Papalito in North Park, the new natural wine bar from the Bottlecraft team, and the new restaurant from chef Drew Bent's new Sonoran BBQ concept; how 2021's “Chef of the Year” Phil Esteban just signed the lease on a new restaurant in Liberty Station; and the sad closing of Supernatural Sandwiches in Miramar and what that says about the realities of running a restaurant in 2022. For “Two People, Fifty Bucks,” David points you to the best dishes at the new Italian/sushi joint in North Park, CinKuni (the “Godzilla ramen”); Mudcat raves about Barbusa and Janet's Montana Cafe, a favorite near his place in Alpine; and I am reminded just how amazing Wayfarer Bread & Pastry is in Bird Rock (the Kouign Amann, the tomato-herbed ricotta cream bun). Go Padres. See ya next week.

In 1981, Fred Roehler's family was anchored on their luxury yacht when he convinced his wife and stepson to venture on a dory to nearby Bird Rock. Roehler said the family dog lunged and swamped the boat, sending the trio into the water. At first, the deaths of Verna and Doug were ruled accidental. Police wanted to know more about the strange incident at sea…and more about what happened to Roehler's first wife. In season two of “Lost Hills: Dead in the Water,” host Dana Goodyear tells a story of swingers, money, and the Malibu vibe of the 1970s. It also re-examines the question of whether the deaths were a cold-water accident or a cold-blooded murder. FOR OUR SPOILER-FREE REVIEW OF "LOST HILLS: DEAD IN THE WATER" GO TO MINUTE 48:00

Welcome back to Happy Half Hour! Today’s special guest is Sabrina Medora, food writer and founder of Un-Plated, a national multimedia platform that celebrates the little-known stories and unsung heroes of the restaurant industry. Her work has appeared in Wine Enthusiast,The Kitchn, and Food & Wine, andshe has produced events with the James Beard Foundation. Sabrina was born in Canada, has lived in Mumbai, Singapore, and New Jersey, and recently moved to San Diego from Washington, DC. She’s the organizer behind Chefs Unite, a dinner series starting May 11 featuring 17 of San Diego's top chefs. The monthlong event is an industry effort to fight racism and raise money for Embrace Race, an organization that provides parents, teachers, and caregivers resources and guidance on how to educate children about matters of race and bias. Sabrina shared about her journey becoming a food writer. Although she’s always enjoyed writing and earned a master’s studying it, she pursued a career in a field that’s considered “stable” but found herself unhappy. She says her true passion is the ecosystem surrounding food and the restaurant industry, how food is tied to a culture’s history and identity, and the way sharing a meal fosters togetherness. One day she researched what she needed to do to become a food writer, and made the leap and left her job. This led to pitching editors, interviewing restaurant workers, staging at restaurants, and eventually founding Un-Plated. Even though Sabrina is new to town, she mobilized over a dozen local chefs and restaurants to come together for the Chefs Unite event, whose lineup includes Claudette Zepeda (Vaga), Brian Redzikowski (Kettner Exchange), Phillip Esteban (White Rice), JoJo Ruiz (Serẽa), and Tara Luansing Monsod (Animae), as well as Danny Lee and Eric Brannon (Chiko). Her goal for the event, aside from raising money for Embrace Race, is to start conversations over food. The event runs May 11 through June 1 at Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens in Liberty Station. Tickets are $89 per person (with an additional $25 for beer and wine pairing), and each dinner in the series features courses prepared by four different chefs. In Hot Plates, Kindred, a popular vegan restaurant and lounge, is expanding and opening a new bar in South Park that will be a “tropical space adventure.” New things are coming to Old Town: a brand new food hall, Old Town Urban Market, is opening in the neighborhood this summer. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, an award-winning ice cream shop from Ohio that’s known for its limited edition flavors and celebrity collaborations, announced plans to open in North Park and Carlsbad. In Two People, $50, Sabrina gave us a few picks: Cafe Coyote in Old Town for the margaritas and atmosphere, Puesto’s tacos, and the burritos at Don Bravo in Bird Rock. Although Troy’s pick this week is well over the $50 budget, he said the crab cakes and the ocean view at The Marine Room in La Jolla (which just reopened) is a must, and then he recommended heading to Gelato 101 in Encinitas for the affogato. David said to check out Fall Brewing Company in North Park for a pop-up event they’re hosting today that benefits the YMCA’s Connections Creative program, which supports young artists in marginalized communities. Marie has two picks this week: the bibimbap at Friend’s House Korean, and the hand-torn biang biang noodles from Shanxi Magic Kitchen (both on Convoy Street). Thank you for listening! As always, we want to hear from our listeners. Need a recommendation for takeout? Is there a guest you want us to book on the show? Let us know! It's Founder Friday! I am thrilled to be able to feature a conversation with an old friend and coffee OG, Jeff Taylor. Jeff is the Co-Founder and CEO of the legendary PT's Coffee Roasters in Topeka, KS and the Owner/ President of Bird Rock Coffee in San Diego, CA.  In todays episode we dive into Jeff's 27 year journey from founding  a small shop called PT's with his business partner Fred Polzin to now being at the helm of an amazing team of coffee professionals that run 10 cafes and two wholesale roasting company’s in 3 states.  Jeff left a very successful career in photo journalism to work fully in coffee and I am so glad he did. PT's has been at the forefront of many of our industries firsts. Jeff worked with a select group to develop what eventually became the United States Barista Competition (USBC), dating back to 1999. Jeff made the transition to Coffee Buyer for PT's Coffee in 2004 and began the process of building relationships with producers around the world which led to forming one of the first Direct Trade models. (Today, PT’s Coffee Roasting Co. Coffee and Bird Rock Coffee Roasters (acquired in 2017) source approximately 85% of our coffee’s directly from farmers) Jeff also served one term on the Specialty Coffee Association of America's Board of Directors through 2010 after which he returned to focus on growing the business sharing sourcing responsibilities with his wife, Maritza Taylor, and Director of Operations Brent Pipiergerdes, so that he could lead the transition and purchase of Bird Rock Coffee Roasters in San Diego, CA. In 2016.  This has been a long and winding path leading to what is undeniably a great coffee career. Patience, relationships, stubbornness, dedication, and trusting your gut are just a few of the themes that emerge here and I feel like we can all see a bit of ourselves and our star in Jeff's.  I hope you enjoy this episode. Like Jeff's career, it's a bit on the long side but worth every minute to be able to learn from one of the original specialty coffee professionals.    Links: www.ptscoffee.com www.birdrockcoffee.com PT's Instagram Bird Rock Instagram    Related Episodes: 184 : Making Great Business Decisions w/ Dave Stachowiak Patience & Passivity : Career Advice for the Long Game 174 : Saying Yes to Business Opportunities w/ Kyle Wells of Torpedo Coffee & Close Quarters   The BEST in commercial coffee equipment www.prima-coffee.com/keys   Want the best plant based beverage for your coffee drinks?  www.pacificfoods.com/food-service

THE 23RD STEP Episode 31 Part 2 Bird Rock Coffee Roasters 2212 Carmel Valley Rd. Del Mar, CA This week we are back at Bird Rock Coffee Roasters for part two. We had an in depth discussion about the coffee business, and what it takes to open a new store. Why do some startups fail while others succeed? Finding an under-served area is the first criteria, but making sure they maintain the high level of quality, both in coffee and staff, is equally as important. Their goal is to represent the commitment they have to farmers, their individual stories, and transmitting this consistently to each customer as well. What makes Bird Rock the best it can be? According to Jeff it’s keeping the coffee culture consistent and tight, utilizing, while nurturing the skill sets of each employee, and promoting from within. As an example, Jacob,(one of our interviewees this week) is now the green buyer and began as a barista at Bird Rock. Bird Rock's philosophy on training baristas is much more extensive than simply teaching how to do a pour over. Your barista will know what goes on behind each cup of coffee they hand you, from origin, to farmers, to roaster. Their goal is to have any questions you have about coffee explained by the person that makes your coffee. The information gleaned at Bird Rock Coffee Roasters will be knowledge for you wherever you may get your next cup of coffee. You will learn how Jeff survived riding up a mountain in Columbia with armed guards just to see the farm of an award winning coffee. Did he really understand who and what FARC was? We learned about coffee being the one constant in Columbia, a country sometimes filled with turmoil and strife. In Maritza's telenovela, "coffee loving Latino meets coffee loving gringo". Only after they were married would Maritza find out it was her "crazy gringo" that went up the mountain. Jacob's one wish was both poignant, and funny! Is knowing how to speak Spanish really that important in the coffee industry? While traveling with a band the lesson he learned that would be best practiced by all of us. This week in the first ever episode of Free Refills we talk by phone with Jeff Taylor to help us clarify some questions left hanging on Geisha coffee from part one. What is the most that you would pay for a cup of coffee? And just what is the 23rd step? After listening to this weeks episode, if you have a question you want us to follow up with, please email us at contact@crosscountrycoffeeroadshow.com, and we will try to make that happen! https://crosscountrycoffeeroadshow.com/

Our special guest this week is Jojo Ruiz, the head chef at the new Serea seafood restaurant at the Hotel Del Coronado. Serea is the iconic resort's new oceanfront eatery that replaced 1500 Ocean, and Chef Jojo, who opened Lionfish and also worked at Ironside, has created a "sea-to-table" menu of sustainable seafood sourced from local fishermen. Jojo explained how San Diego is at the forefront of the sea-to-table movement, and he thinks that the mackerel fish and the Soupfin shark are underrated in the culinary world. His pick for Two People, $50 is Cantina Mayahuel, and the staff suggested Phuong Trang and Shank & Bone for pho, Il Dandy, and brunch at Fort Oak. In Hot Plates, the owner of the popular Breakfast Republic chain opened a new brunch spot in North Park, North Park Breakfast Company, to help alleviate the crowds at Breakfast Republic. The Guild Hotel downtown just opened with a new restaurant, Luca, with Chef Justin Vaiciunas from Food Network’s “Cutthroat Kitchen” leading the kitchen. Lastly, there’s a new happy hour in town! Wayfarer Bread in Bird Rock just launched a summertime happy hour on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and will include a changing menu with various crudités, dips, and a local brewery or winery. This week's Hot Topic is about a polarizing beverage: LaCroix sparkling water. CNN said the brand's popularity with Millennials is fizzing out, and sales of the lightly flavored, fizzy beverage are "in freefall." As Americans drink more seltzer than ever before (sales of the beverage have doubled in the past five years), there's lots of competition now, especially for the boozy kind. Nevertheless, Jojo still prefers a LaCroix over a beer after a long day at work. It’s not too late to join us for our live taping of Happy Half Hour at Eppig Brewing’s Waterfront Biergarten next week, July 8, at 3 p.m. We will be sampling the first of three collaboration beers we are doing with Eppig, Fall, and Coronado brewing in celebration of our Best of San Diego issue. There is no charge to come down, but there will be discounts for everyone in our Insider’s Program. We hope to see you there!
