It was 50 years ago today, and boy was it a year. The start of a new decade is always a nervous and exciting time, as a lot can happen in 10 years, or is it just another day? In our first episode for 2020, I'm taking a look back at the year 1970. The Beatles 'Let It Be' and broke up, followed by the 1st of the their solo albums and the subsequent questions of, "Where do we go from here?" without them? The floodgates that the Beatles opened in the early sixties for new bands exploded in several directions in 1970. The new decade in music proved not to be a disappointment, but an even bigger influence on modern culture! Join me as we see how it started, won't you? There is much more to discuss, more anniversaries coming up this year, and we'll try to cover more of the 1970's in 2020! Do you remember the 5th day of November? Well you should! John Lennon told you to Remember in his 1970 release of the song on the Plastic Ono Band album, the album with two different covers. Something that always puzzled me is: Why? What happened on the 5th of the November? And why does the song end with a crescendo in the form of a violent explosion? And why are there two different covers? Well the answer was absolutely fascinating! I first tried to find out if any famous people had birthdays, but nothing stuck out. That was until an article popped up on my personal feed a few years ago. It talked all about a very specific holiday from across the pond, and why Lennon told us to remember it! Alec has a solo episode this week, talking about a subject that is near and dear to him: The Marvel Cinematic Universe. As requested by Brad, Alec tries to explain why Superheroes are important, and how they've transitioned over the years into telling more human stories, in spite of their superhuman qualities. The Marvel Cinematic Universe sees 22 movies and dozens of characters fight various villains, including themselves. This is a stark contrast to the original Batman cartoon, featuring Adam West, which was altogether silly and light-hearted; to The Dark Knight, which deals with Anarchy and Order, as well as insanity and sanity.
