When George Harrison died, I helped move a friend from her flat in Elizabeth St to her new place then in Tasman St. From Mt Vic to Mt Cook sounds like the title to a down-scaling book but this was just how it was back in 2001. We scrubbed the walls to get the smoke stains off from where the pictures had been and all the while the radio was playing Beatles songs.I was on the heavy lifting, helping the removal men when they arrived. I was lifting tables and chairs, computer desks and various things down the alleyway to the street front. It was baking hot; I'd played a gig the night before and stayed up late drinking whatever was in the house as a toast to the Quiet Beatle. My hangover was getting a workout. The removal truck arrived, driven by the world's rudest man. He was instantly a caricature. Loud and dumb and full of himself. And his truck was in the middle of the street – a one-way road. He figured everyone could wait because he was on a paid job. And when he did, grudgingly, move the truck, he backed it into someone's car. A neighbour popped his head in to say he'd seen what happened. The moving man stuck his neck out to tell the man to forget what he saw if he wanted to keep all his fingers. Then there was a car of women beeping. Beeping. Trying to tell this man to move.I was head-down and just bringing out the loads of stuff. But I said, at one point, that maybe he ought to move his truck. He laughed maniacally and then went to meet the women in the car. He bent down, leaned in and hoiked a giant spit right into the face of the driver. His co-worker laughed, then corrected himself, shook his head, was mortified. And he asked the lunatic, “why did you do that?”The meathead replied that it was the “the dirtiest thing I could think to do”.The radio belted out I Me Mine and Here Comes The Sun and Taxman and While My Guitar Gently Weeps. All those great George Harrison-penned Beatles songs. We heard a few of the solo gems too – obviously My Sweet Lord and All Those Years Ago, that cover of Got My Mind Set on You and a Travelling Wilburys song – or two.But this was the end of the line. A guy spat in a woman's face because he couldn't be bothered to move his truck. Because he was sure that he was the boss. Because he knew that he was large – and if not in charge he was still the king. At least of anything that mattered in his world. We were mortified. Horrified. We were stunned to silence – and didn't feel good about that.We had a story. A weird story. And it's one we'll always have. Me and the friend I helped move that day…were married a few years on, we've moved houses a handful of times since that occasion. We've streamlined all we can but the mess continues to grow, the stuff we don't need builds up around us. And we have a son now that wants to know any story about The Beatles that we can think of.One day, he can read this. And make of it what he will.Sounds Good! is a reader-supported publication. Sådan beskriver skuespiller og satiriker Rasmus Bruun sit forhold til Beatles nummeret ”Here Comes The Sun.” The Wolf spent 3+ years just a stone's throw from Abbey Road in NW London, just six blocks from the studio that goes by the same name. The studio was EMI for decades until it was renamed in the 1970s after the final album recorded by The Beatles (Let It Be was released later but those sessions took place earlier and at different studios). After throwing out exotic locales for the album cover, George Harrison suggested they walk across the street and the most iconic album cover was born. The boys may not be the world's biggest Beatles fans but to love rock n roll, one must have an appreciation for them. The Wolf remained largely unfamiliar with Abbey Road until he realized he had to pick up a copy if he was going to walk down that street everyday for 3 years. As it turns 55, the boys go track x track, discuss the famous cover and dive into the state of The Beatles in their final days. Paul was trying to manage the band since the death of Brian Epstein and still deliver the goods in the studio. John was getting deeper into heroin and Yoko Ono. George was growing up and saving some of his best for his debut solo album. And Ringo just wanted the boys to stop fighting in meetings all the time. But George brought the goods with Something and Here Comes The Sun. John offered up Come Together and the pre-heavy metal I Want You (She's So Heavy). Paul put together some of his and John's best new melodies for the epic medley on the 2nd side. And dear Ringo gave us Octopus's Garden, a place he'd rather be than haggling with the band all the time. We dive deep into each song, where each member of the band was at the time and where they were going. This may not be our favorite album but it is an important document of a band that had had enough but could still bring the most amazing harmonies to life. I'm thrilled to welcome to our show, Joshua M. Greene, who, in his own words, says he's spent much of his life's work “sharing extraordinary stories about extraordinary people.” Mr. Greene spent countless years practicing yoga and meditation with George Harrison, and eventually wrote “Here Comes The Sun,” a biography that chronicles the spiritual and musical journey of former Beatle. We'll ask him about that. Joshua is also a renowned Holocaust scholar and filmmaker, whose books have sold more than a half-million copies worldwide, including “Unstoppable,” “Justice at Dachau,” and books for young adults, including “The Girl Who Fought Back,” and “Signs of Survival, A Girl on Schindler's List.” We'll ask him about all of them. Mr. Greene is a popular lecturer who has spoken at the Pentagon, and his films and documentaries on Holocaust history have aired on PBS and Discovery. He's received numerous awards, including the Gold Metal at the NY International Film and TV Festival. On a personal note, Joshua M. Greene is married to Esther Lynn Fortunoff, of the famed Fortunoff family department store chain. They share a love of art and storytelling, two children, and an immensely eclectic and interesting life. Please join me in welcoming Joshua M. Greene on all video and audio podcast platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, and it's a pleasure to have you join us. JEUDI 200624 Avec Sheryl Crow, The Rivieras, Bill Withers et Katrina and the Waves. VENDREDI 210624 Avec Bob Marley and The Wailers, Blondie et Soundgarden. 2. – Kopf hoch – It´s Alright – Here Comes The Sun. The Beatles played music from the 1950s through today, though two of the "Fab Four" are now dead. Their "invasion" of the United States occurred in 1963 when I was in 5th grade. While some of you listening to this have probably never heard of this iconic band, their music still plays around the world. Their song, "Here Comes The Sun," is one of the top songs, if not the #1 song, ever played by listeners. And at its roots is what is at the core of horsemanship. I go a bit esoteric on this podcast, relating what all of you know as horsemanship to a song. Over the past several decades, adverbs added to modify the word "horsemanship" imply that you need to do something, be something, or join something to become a horseman. Of course, there is the gender issue, but I'll ignore that because "man," when used in "horseman," implies "human." So far, no one has wanted to create the word "huher," as in horsehership. But I wanted to make this podcast when I worked on several horses last weekend regarded by their owners as "unpredictable," "bad actors," and generally horses that caused anxiousness in these seasoned owners. After successfully making them willing partners in the floating process, I decided to listen to music on the ride home. That is when I heard this song, and that is when I realized the secret to working successfully with horses that I have never seen before and having them become willing partners within a minute of starting. ________________________________ TheHorsesAdvocate.com is a website about horses, horse barns, and farms. We could talk until we're blue in the face about what a bridge is and what the greatest bridges are, and we actually did just that. The fabulous Maurice Bursztynski returns for a knock down drag out discussion about songs and song bridges. We also took little breaks in the middle of arguing to listen to some examples of sublime pop song craft in TOP TEN GREAT BRIDGES Part 2. It's unclear if we got to the bottom of it, but no matter, we had a blast hanging with Maurice and revealing picks 5-1.If you missed Top Ten Great Bridges Part 1, get it here:https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/alltimetopten/episodes/2023-08-28T04_00_00-07_00Get your ears on this! Curled up in bed, outraged, spinning, crying, despondent, or terrified? Maybe you've felt all of these things in the last few days. This episode doesn't rehash the recent tragedies, but helps guide you from fear and anger to right action. Tait and Jenny walk through the steps listed below and also share some creative ways to help. For example, you don't need to throw a huge gala, it could be just 20 friends and neighbors. WHAT NOT TO DO: 1) Don't let your fear and anger spin you into an unorganized ball of rage and then show up at non-profit activist meetings trying to change everything. Take a beat.2) Don't yell at your friends and family or accuse people of not doing enough before you've done an honest assessment of yourself and your actions. 3) Don't ignore your feelings.4) Don't assume that one big, heroic act on your part is going to fix the problem. It will take a million little acts, sustained over a long period of time. WHAT TO DO:1) Let yourself feel the anger, anguish, fear, depression. Go through it fully. Journal, read, rest. Take a few days to go through this, reflect, and recharge. The problems aren't going to go away while you do this. They will still be there when you are calmer and clearer. 2) Work through the Social Change Ecosystem map and workbook (link at bottom). This will help you identify where you can be of service and help you move out of a paralyzed, overwhelmed state. You can't do everything and you only have so many resources of time, emotional strength, and money. This framework will help you figure out how you can help consistently over a long period of time rather than in one short burst of anger and fear. 3) When you get to a meeting, honor the work that has been going on for years before you got angry enough to get involved. Listen, learn, and lend your gifts and talents. 4) Ask yourself what keeps you up at night. This will help guide you to what's deeply felt at your core. If we are going to give our time and energy to helping over a sustained period of time, we have to feel deeply connected to the cause. Quotes shared in this episode: "Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for." -Seamus Heaney"Anger is initiatory, not transformative." -Ruth KingReferenced in episode: Social Change Ecosystem Map https://buildingmovement.org/our-work/movement-building/social-change-ecosystem-map/Mariame Kaba http://mariamekaba.com/Closing song: "Here Comes The Sun" Nina SimoneREBEL HUMAN REPORT: subscribe at https://www.therebelhuman.com/newsletterLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/rebel-humanSUBSCRIBE to Rebel Human YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/RebelHumanSCHOOLS PROGRAM: https://www.therebelhuman.com/schoolsWEBSITE: https://www.therebelhuman.com/

Let's face it; things didn't come easy in the 70's. People spent a lot of time searching the want ads and it was hard not to feel down on a Monday when you couldn't find anything in there. Relationships were strained when he loved her madly, but she didn't know how to love him, and yet both realized they never can say goodbye. The drumbeat of bad news made a lot of people turn toward the heavens and say “for god's sake if there were only some way to bring more power to the people”. Some people ignored the bad news, drank their cool aid, had brown sugar and marmalade on their toast, while others were looking for a superstar who would offer their hand and lead them to a bridge over the troubled water. Someone to tell them that it's not too late, that perhaps the way to bring back joy to the world was right on the tip of their tongue. I humbly ask you to stay awhile and indulge in this week's podcast where we take a look at the Billboard Top 40 from the week ending June 5, 1971. We've got funk, soul, religion, stories, and alternate sources of food. We promise to be respectful of the chart and treat her like a lady. You may know him best as an actor, but John Simm is also a fine musician, just ask Echo & The Bunnymen or New Order. John shares his early guitar-playing ambitions from gigging with his dad, to switching gears to acting in The Lakes, Doctor Who, Grace and Life on Mars – which may well be returning soon... Music obsessions run deep at John's Here Comes The Sun fest (minor spoiler) and we wouldn't have it any other way. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
After a 2-month recording hiatus, we're back! Anna and Jordin start the episode by sharing their quaran-tips, including a deep-dive into the 5 Love Languages and how to apply them in a pandemic. We then belatedly dissect the dumpster fire that was Peter's season of The Bachelor: narcissistic Victoria, codependent Peter and his toxic mother Barb, as well as the difference between Madi and Luke P's ultimatums.Stephanie DiPisa, founder of Solara Suncare, calls in to teach us everything about what clean SPF really means. We debunk sunscreen myths, discuss the process of making the shift to clean lifestyle changes, and explore how branding and public relations play a role in entrepreneurship (and how you, too, can use your skills from previous jobs to start new business ventures).Anna closes the episode recommending some products that she claims are changing her life in the feminine health department. To make up for lost time, it's our longest episode yet. To our listeners: if you're struggling during the quarantine, we are here for you. So take a deep breath, order yourself some Solara Suncare, and know that this will get better.
