This week, Laena (@mfspood) is joined by Emily (@mini_robomuppets)! It was impossible to edit out the giggles on this one, and it does get a bit silly. Emily and Laena talk about how getting over spider fears can lead to making spoody content for social media. Emily also answers the big questions ("have you been bitten?", "should I breed them?" and "can I keep this wild-caught jumping spider?" are a few)! We also learn about a Spanish-speaking jumping spider and a male spood that fell in love with a toy saxophone. :)
Hillsdale College Radio General Manager and Radio Free Hillsdale Hour Host Scot Bertram fills in for Jim on 3 Martini Lunch. Join Scot and Greg as they discuss the GOP's push for consumer freedom, Democrats' extreme opposition to making sure only citizens can vote, and President Trump's call to make Daylight Saving Time permanent.First, they praise President Trump's executive order restoring consumer choice over showerhead water pressure, along with a U.S. Senate vote to repeal a Biden-era rule targeting gas-powered water heaters. Scot and Greg see these moves as a strong rejection of the left's absurd climate agenda and unnecessary government interference in everyday life.Next, they cheer the House passage of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which would require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections. Democrats are leveling bizarre claims that the bill would disenfranchise married women who changed their names. Scot and Greg dismantle those arguments and call out Rep. Eric Swalwell and others for resorting to profanity and theatrics to act like they're fighting hard against the GOP.Finally, as President Trump calls for making Daylight Saving Time (DST) permanent, Scot explains why permanent Standard Time makes far more sense if you're going to make one time permanent. He also points out that America tried year-round DST back in the 1970s and hated it. And, while neither of them particularly enjoy the time changes, Scot and Greg also wonder why so many people are suddenly obsessed with this issue when nobody really seemed to care about it a generation ago. Please visit our great sponsors:Future-proof business operations with NetSuite by Oracle. We will be live from the Benz this morning for the conclusion of the Atlanta United 2 match against Inter Miami II. Join Madison Crews and me for midgame pregame coverage starting at 10:50 followed by the resumption of the match in the 25th minute at 11am. Listen on soccerdownhere.mixlr.com. Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse.Atlanta United was lacking in their 1-1 draw with Dallas on Saturday night. They had more control and possession, but the final pass wasn't there consistently enough as the team had some of it's lowest outputs for shot created actions and key passes this season. Perhaps that was down to Alexey Miranchuk's adductor injury that forced him to come off the bench, he nearly won the match late with a cross to Jamal Thiare that was headed wide. Tristan Muyumba was brilliant on the ball and defensively in the match, a deserving Man of the Match in the midfield. We'll see what is taken away from the night and what is built upon this week as the Five Stripes prepare to host New England next Saturday afternoon. We'll have Training Ground Dispatch on Tuesday and Thursday this week to break everything down. Toronto played their best game of the season last night on Sunday Night Soccer as they drew 1-1 with Miami. Great goals from Bernardeschi and Messi late in the first half. Vancouver and San Diego are taking control in the Western Conference after nice wins on Saturday. Kansas City got their first win since last September in a 2-0 win over St. Louis in Kerry Zavagnin's first match in charge. San Jose destroyed DC on the anniversary of the first ever match in league history, Josef Martinez turned back the clock for another hat trick to add to his record setting tally in MLS.Trinity Rodman scored in her return to the USWNT, leading a 2-0 win over Brazil at SoFi Stadium in LA. They'll play again tomorrow night. The US U17 women earned qualification to the World Cup in Morocco later this year after a 7-0 win over El Salvador in qualifying.Southampton became the earliest team to be relegated in Premier League history and are on pace to have the lowest point total ever. Ivan Juric was sacked this morning after winning one league match in his 100+ days in charge. In Brazil, the federation has banned players from standing on the ball in matches. Memphis Depay, Neymar, Gabigol, and others have criticized the decision. Players who now stand on the ball during a game will get a yellow card and the ball will be turned over to the opponent via a goal kick. Yes, the move is a taunt. Don't like it? Don't let players have the opportunity to do it. Want to get back at them? You'll have your chances in the match. Silliness all the way around. More Espresso tomorrow on the SDH Network, presented by Oglethorpe University.

Neighbor, here's a PSA: if you're going to take your kids out of public school, you should have to look every other kid in the eye and say: "My kid deserves more than you do." LOL!!!! A member of a school board in Alabama literally said that. (And then turned off the comments because it wasn't going well for her.) Next: What's wrong with vouchers? And what happens to first-year teachers--fresh out of college--that imemediately turns them into crazy, union-loving, copying-and-pasting activists? Finally: If you try to change the church by-laws, you may have to step over the bodies you leave behind you. And also--you can't make kids eat good food. That's bad. Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. Good preseason win for Atlanta United on Saturday afternoon in Bradenton against New England. Miguel Almirón started and played into the second half for the Five Stripes. Ronny Deila spoke afterwards about Almirón's positioning and wants him to have the freedom on the offensive side but discipline defensively. I think we saw that, overall the defensive side of the team looked good in the win and the offensive chemistry will come with time. Latte Lath could join training this week, Brooks Lennon is back in training already and might ahead of schedule, and Stian Gregersen should be available to play in Wednesday's Bradenton finale against Cincinnati. Cupsets in Britain as Liverpool's race to the quadruple was dashed by Plymouth Argyle, who are on the bottom of the Championship. Their manager went home to celebrate with nachos and Fanta... yes that's what he said. Queen's Park in Scotland went one better, upsetting Rangers after saving a 95th minute penalty and earning a win over the Scottish giant for the first time since 1882. Atleti were given a dubious penalty in their 1-1 draw with Real Madrid on Saturday. While you might be able to justify the call, it's the kind of call that we shouldn't want to see in games. Barcelona won on the weekend, so La Liga has 3 teams separated by 2 points at the top. Christian Pulisic is tied for the Serie A lead in assists after 2 in Milan's 2-0 win over Empoli. River Plate ended Independiente's unbeaten start to the season in Argentina, while the Uruguayan Clásico finished 1-1 between Peñarol and Nacional. Clubs are still adding players in MLS with the window open into April. On the silly season front, it looks like Eduard Atuesta's move to Orlando is back on. Benjamin Rollheiser is reportedly headed to Botafogo in Brazil as opposed to MLS, but a Botafogo striker could be headed to the LA Galaxy on loan. More Espresso on Monday on the SDH Network, presented by Oglethorpe University.
Some of the world’s most creative people seem to have no trouble staying creative while the rest of us find it a constant challenge. But what if there were simple things you could be doing to lift the load and make being creative fun again? This is why I’ve asked creative powerhouse Ben Shewry to return to the podcast. Ben Shewry is head chef and owner of multi-award winning Melbourne restaurant, Attica. Attica has been featured several times in the The World's 50 Best Restaurants and has been named the Best Restaurant in Australia. He has also won The Age Good Food Guide’s Restaurant of the year 3 times, Chef of the Year twice, has earned 3 Michelin stars, been featured on the Netflix Series Chef’s Table and so much more. What you probably didn’t know about Ben is that he is also a brilliant writer. His latest book, Uses for Obsession, is a memoir of his experiences in the hospitality industry. With all of this success and all these projects, Ben has definitely found more demands on his time, and yet he still manages to keep that joy and passion with his creative work. Ben shares:

PRP 007 Mini-Broadcast: Episode 8 – Diamonds Are Forever Since the beginning of the show, Brian has done his best to strong-arm discussion of Agent 007 into as many podcasts as he could. Finally he convinced Sarah to embark on a new mission: the Permanent Record Podcast 007 Mini-Broadcast! This occasional series from your friends Brian & Sarah started with "Dr. No" and will work its way up to the most recent Bond adventure, and on the way, it will discuss and critique all of the 007 theme songs and other relevant recordings. It's a dream come true for one of the hosts - and for Bond fans everywhere! In this 8th episode, Sarah and Brian are once again joined by Bond author Robbie Sims (Quantum of Silliness: The Peculiar World of Bond, James Bond), and the trio turn their attention to the 1971 movie, “Diamonds Are Forever.” This Bond outing sees the return of the original 007, Sean Connery, after George Lazenby stepped away from the role. But Sir Sean isn't the only one who has returned after a hiatus from the films; the theme song is sung by Shirley Bassey, who was the voice behind the iconic “Goldfinger” theme and returns to lend her vocal talents to the “Diamonds Are Forever” title track. Brian, Robbie, and Sarah have a lively discussion about the theme song and Dame Shirley, of course, but they cover other topics such as David Arnold's rendition of the song, the group Q: The Music, and Robbie's fabulous (but not too fabulous) t-shirt, as well as a bit of speculating on the future of the Bond franchise. It's fun for all—well, at least fun for some! (PATREON EXCLUSIVE) Parts of the film are shot on the real Florida Tower of Terror location.Tower of Terror is part of the canon 80s & 90s films wherein strange men hang out with younger counterparts, specifically teen girls… which surely makes you think…For a film based on the The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride, the few special effects leave a bit to be desired. The very minor romance subplot (if you can call it that) is not only cheesy, it's also lame.So... if the ghosts are chill, why are they trying to scare everyone away? The drama during the climax is effective, and Shirleon & Melvin stepped away enjoying it.Recommendations:Maid (2021) (Series)Oddity (2024) (Movie)The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022 - X ) (Series)MAILBAG: Send questions with your first name and we'll answer them in future episodes! To be silly in a serious society is a revolutionary act. By embracing a sense of silliness, you can almost create + enter a new reality within the reality you're currently in. You can create a new world within the current one, simply by embracing the silliness that appears in the mundane. Choosing to be silly is a valid response to trauma as well as the general chaos of the world, and should be interpreted as suchRESOURCES ON SILLINESS: https://www.davispoliticalreview.com/article/a-case-for-humor-how-girls-silliness-is-bridging-the-confidence-gap https://medium.com/@kellyhackmann/the-virtue-of-silliness-736b9edeccb3 https://meandmine.com/blogs/meandmine-blog/the-science-of-silliness https://avidly.lareviewofbooks.org/2012/11/20/silly-theory/ https://www.davispoliticalreview.com/article/a-case-for-humor-how-girls-silliness-is-bridging-the-confidence-gap https://www.aplayfulpath.com/another-kind-playful-revolution/ https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2020/aug/23/why-it-is-sensible-to-be-silly-serious-times-call-for-drawing-smiley-faces-on-fruit DONATE:www.pcrf.netGet Involved:Operation Olive Branch: Spreadsheets + LinksGET AN OCCASIONAL PERSONAL EMAIL FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastOR WATCH ON YOUTUBE: www.youtube.com/juliemerica The opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only. We've discussed the philosophy of absurdism in the past - the concept of embracing meaningless as a freedom, or even the idea of finding or creating meaning on our own when there is no obvious meaning available. But today, instead of focusing on finding meaning in the absurd, I want to focus on finding the absurd in the meaningful. Let's Talk About Myths, Baby! Greek & Roman Mythology Retold
Revisiting the silliest epic of them all... We all know the famed battle of Achaean and Trojans, but what about the equally epic battle between the Frogs and the Mice? CW/TW: far too many Greek myths involve assault. Given it's fiction, and typically involves gods and/or monsters, I'm not as deferential as I would be were I referencing the real thing.
