Episode 104: In Conversation with Tony Miracle of Venus Hum As was famously said in Monty Python's Flying Circus, "And now for something completely different..." Yes, Brian and Sarah should be talking about Depeche Mode's album Violator in this episode. But instead, they present to you their first-ever interview! Tony Miracle has worked in the music industry for over 25 years as a musician, songwriter, producer, and remixer. In the early 2000s he was one-third of the wonderful synthpop group Venus Hum, and he's also released electronic music under the moniker Satellite City and his own name. And if that's not enough, he's also a graphic designer! With a resume like that, it should come as no surprise that Brian and Sarah found plenty of things to discuss with Tony. He shared many interesting tales from his past and graciously answered numerous questions from our hosts. And during the course of the conversation, he mentioned several names that should be quite familiar to listeners of this podcast: Thomas Dolby, Martyn Ware, and Vince Clarke! So you definitely won't want to miss those stories! You can check out Tony's website at http://www.tonymiracle.com/ To learn more about the terrific music of Venus Hum, visit http://www.venushum.com/ And to treat yourself to the fantastic music you heard in this episode, visit Tony and Venus Hum at http://venushum.bandcamp.com. In light of the passing earlier this week of Tom Lester, the actor known around the world as Eb on Green Acres, we you bring this minisode edition in which Greg and Ed discuss the broadcast history of Green Acres (CBS, 1965-1971). In many respects, Green Acres was the closest thing American television came to capturing the genius and absurdity of Monty Python's Flying Circus. Learn more about your ad choices. Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 61st episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,800 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Watching Terrible Movies," I open with reflections on the recent passing of Terry Jones, and celebrate some of his iconic work with Monty Python's Flying Circus. In my "Friday Night Feature," I talk about "Fata Morgana," a first-season episode of "Sanctuary" on Syfy, and chat about some of the strengths and weaknesses of the show at this stage of its production. I trace Cross Connections to the show, as well as Terry Jones' work, and appearances by Nicholas Brendan and Marc Vann in "Criminal Minds." In my Classic Collection, I talk about Monty Python sketches I was cataloging as I learned of Jones' passing. Also, David Alan Grier's Comedy Central production "Chocolate News," and some Daily Show and Colbert Report's interstitial tomfoolery called "Who's the Toss?" In my Current Collection, I talk about the animated reproduction of an original series fourth season serial of "Doctor Who" from the Patrick Troughton era, "The Macra Terror," then trace some of those themes through some more recent episodes, along with comments on "Fugitive of the Judoon." I then chat about "Supernatural," "Superstore" and "The Magicians," and explore a few thoughts about the series finale of "The Good Place" -- just ... wow. In "VideoFuzzy at the Movies," I chat with Jesse Zimmerman of "The Average Movie Nerd" blog in the title reference for this episode, to wit: Watching Terrible Movies. We got together and watched "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra" (2001) "Hail Caesar" (1994), "Rockula" (1990) and "Repo! The Genetic Opera" (2008) and then ... discussed them. Finally, in Upcoming Shows, a look ahead at the return of "Miracle Workers: The Dark Ages" on TBS, "Better Call Saul" on AMC and "The Sinner" on USA, premieres of "Briarpatch" on USA and "Indebted" on NBC, plus "Birds of Prey" opens in theaters, looks like a fun romp. Enjoy!
Well, here we come, waltzing down the street, getting hot and sweaty, with all this humidity. Hey hey we’re the Nerds yeah, and people say we look kind of funny, particularly Buck the big Boomer. Haha, admit it, you started to sing that in to the Monkey’s theme tune didn’t you, if not you just went back and tried it. We this week we bring you another awesome episode to listen to while you rest in the shade and enjoy a breeze on the long weekend.First up we are taking flight with Buck, Toyota, and Joby. No, Joby is not a new host, it is an aviation company that Toyota is investing in to increase its presence in the transport arena. Also this is the next step to having vehicles like in the Jetsons. Check out the drawings in the link, a tilt-engine vehicle that looks like a cross between a drone and a helicopter. This is seriously cool. Also while looking around at all the different transport tech news Buck also found some artists renderings of potential vehicles for space travel from Lexus. Wait till you hear what Buck and Professor think one of them looks like. Which is your favorite option?Next up DJ has a story about the Producers Guild Awards, in particular 1917. Want to know what movies won which awards, listen in. Also you can hear about the movie 1917, with some of the various story plot points to look out for. For those unfamiliar with it 1917 is a movie set in World War One. It is the story of a soldier and his friend trying to save the lives of 1600 British troops. There are some funny parts, but it is a moving drama based on stories told by the Grand Father of the Director Sam Mendes. DJ has also asked for your predictions for the Oscars and who you think should be nominated and win, so let us know on either: Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.Next up we have Professor bringing us an update on the saga of Crytek and CIG (Star Citizen). Would you believe that so far CIG have spent over $900,000 on this legal matter? Yep, for the company started on kickstarter and now sells space fleets for $27000 they are really going hard. Want to know what has happened then listen in. As usual we have all the shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and events of interest. Until next week, please remember to take care of yourselves, look out for each other, and stay hydrated.Toyota joins Joby Aviation - https://www.technology.org/2020/01/17/toyota-is-joining-forces-with-the-leader-of-commercial-evtol-technology-electric-air-taxis-are-coming/Lexus brings us drawing of Moon/space vehicles - https://www.engadget.com/2020/01/18/lexus-moon-space-vehicles/‘1917’ Becomes Oscar Front-Runner After Producers Guild Win - https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/19/movies/1917-producers-guild-america-award.htmlCrytek vs Star Citizen an update - https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/eqedb8/crytek_vs_star_citizens42_update_cigs_response_to/Does Google Stadia Stink like old socks? - https://www.businessinsider.com.au/google-stadia-early-adopters-giving-up-2020-1?utm_source=reddit.com&r=US&IR=TGames PlayedProfessor– Steamworld - http://imageform.se/game/steamworld-dig/Rating: 4/5Buck– Thunder Run: War of Clans - https://www.facebook.com/ThunderRunWarOfClans/?epa=SEARCH_BOXRating: 3/5DJ– Darwin Project - https://store.steampowered.com/app/544920/Darwin_Project/?fbclid=IwAR0Sp5FnKYv9vrxu9FdrXRH5PLWk4rooNt8vIqMEPAnx3GvOjU-Ob8cGZxcRating: 4/5Other topics discussedJoby Aviation (American venture-backed aerospace company and developer of VTOL personal air vehicles designed for air taxi services)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joby_AviationNine News Australia - Mates go fishing from drone towed deck chair- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LLx8JKCrhMFederal Aviation Administration (FAA) (governmental body of the United States with powers to regulate all aspects of civil aviation in that nation as well as over its surrounding international waters.)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Aviation_AdministrationCivil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) (Australian national authority for the regulation of civil aviation.)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_Aviation_Safety_AuthorityThe Verge: Uber’s air taxis will resemble nice helicopters on the inside-https://www.theverge.com/2019/6/11/18661129/uber-air-taxi-cabin-interior-elevate-helicopterWant to escape Sao Paulo's traffic? Jones was a Welsh actor, writer, comedian, screenwriter, film director and historian. He was a member of the Monty Python comedy team. After graduating from Oxford University with a degree in English, Jones and writing partner Michael Palin (whom he met at Oxford) wrote and performed for several high-profile British comedy programmes, including Do Not Adjust Your Set and The Frost Report, before creating Monty Python's Flying Circus with Cambridge graduates Eric Idle, John Cleese, Graham Chapman, and American animator/filmmaker Terry Gilliam. Jones was largely responsible for the programme's innovative, surreal structure, in which sketches flowed from one to the next without the use of punchlines. He made his directorial debut with the team's film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which he co-directed with Gilliam, and also directed the subsequent Python films Life of Brian and The Meaning of Life.Jones co-created and co-wrote with Palin the anthology series Ripping Yarns. He also wrote an early draft of Jim Henson's 1986 film Labyrinth, though little of his work remained in the final cut. Jones was a well-respected medieval historian, having written several books and presented television documentaries about the period, as well as a prolific children's book author. In 2016, Jones received a Lifetime Achievement award at the BAFTA Cymru Awards for his outstanding contribution to television and film. Pastor Andrew pays tribute to Terry Jones, from "Monty Python's Flying Circus," who died this week, by talking about the theological gifts the great movie he directed, "Life of Brian," has to share. The movie got a beating from "church folk" when it came out, but, as Pastor Andrew says, only people who don't understand the Bible would take offense to this marvelous film.
Lin Brehmer shares fond memories of watching Monty Python's Flying Circus alongside other red-eyed college students back in the 70's.
John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Michael Palin, Terry Jones, Eric Idle, and Terry Gilliam started Monty Python's Flying Circus and not only set the template for comedy shows to come, but created their own brand of comedy in the process.

Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 57th episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,800 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Cutting that LVAD Wire," I feature Alan Ball's HBO project "True Blood." In Cross Connections, there's no "Studio Six Feet Under" competition on "True Blood," given "Six Feet Under" series creator Alan Ball's direct connection. Rather, I traced connections from a couple significant episodes of "Boston Legal," Kurt Sutter productions "The Shield" and "Sons of Anarchy," "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles," "Rescue Me" and "Monk," and I premiere a Golden Thread segment with Dean Norris, tracking his appearances in shows throughout my collection. In my Classic VHS-to-DVD Collection, I found a pivotal episode of "Grey's Anatomy" along with comments on the series finale of "Dead Like Me," the 2006 Amnesty International fundraiser "The Secret Policeman's Ball," the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, the 2008 Emmy Awards, "The Office," "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," the Spanish Inquisition pops up in "Monty Python's Flying Circus," and from "The Daily Show," in Jon Stewart's Wacky Lists of Things, I break down the "network of gay staffers" conservatives were attributing as somehow responsible for Rep. Mark Foley's allegedly untoward texts and emails to young male pages. In VideoFuzzy at the Movies, I ran into copies of "Fracture" and "Michael Clayton" in my Classic Collection, and from my Current Collection, I chat about H.G. Wells' 1936 "Things to Come," which aired on community access. In my direct-to-DVD Current Collection, comments on "Bob's Burgers," "Superstore," "The Good Place," "Supernatural," "American Horror Story 1984," "Will & Grace," "Cake" and Twitter teases involving "Perfect Harmony" and "Doctor Who." Finally, in What I've Been Watching, some thoughts on the fourth season premiere of "Mr. Robot." Enjoy!
In the latest of this year's 50th anniversaries, we're celebrating Monty Python! This Silly Group has brought hours and hours of smiles and belly-aching laughter to our family and so many others. The unique British spin on comedy brought Philosophy into the Lime Light with skits such as Twit of the Year, and The Argument Clinic. They routinely challenged the status quo by asking questions that we never really knew we had! Tune in to Brad & Alec discussing their favorite skits, moments, and memories made while watching Monty Python's Flying Circus and their movies! 50 years ago, five British comedy writers and one American animator joined forces to unleash upon the world one of the greatest comedy troupes of all time, Monty Python. To honor this legacy, Geek Salad is looking back at their favorite sketches from the show that put this group on the map, "Monty Python's Flying Circus", in episode 184: The Royal Society for Putting Things on Top of Other Things. Andy, Mike, Joe, and Katherine load a huge collection of their favorite sketches into the wheel of comedy (or a free app on Andy's phone) and randomly go down the list, discussing and laughing through them all. Can anyone truly expect the Spanish Inquisition? Have you ever pined for the fjords? And what is the best method of defending yourself against a banana-wielding foe? Listen in and find out! Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 54th episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,800 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "The Palindrome Parallax Paradox Podcast," I feature the series finale of short-lived ABC Family comic book-inspired series "The Middleman" for my Friday Night Feature, "The Palindrome Reversal Palindrome" and discuss my interest in comic books and graphic novel-inspired media. In Cross Connections, I trace "Studio Six Feet Under" connections from "The Middleman," as well as connections from the third season of "Eureka" and the 1940 production of "Gaslight" to the 1948 production of "The Red Shoes." In Old Business, I pull up the closing scenes of the pilot episode of "Raising the Bar" I featured in Episode 53: We Are As Gods, a few moves I called and a few I'd completely forgotten. In my Classic VHS-to-DVD Collection, I talked about a first season episode of "Prison Break," a fourth season episode of "Nip/Tuck" and a first season episode of "30 Rock" that all turned up recently. In Crowdsourcing, research continues but breakthroughs thus far prove elusive on Exhibit E, a piece of sketch comedy, some screen caps posted here. Any tips, hints or leads are greatly appreciated. In my direct-to-DVD Current Collection, some discussion on "Pearson" and "Suits" as well as "Preacher." Also, looking at a few eyecatching commercials, an Audi commercial makes me feel pretty good about what I've heard about the new 007. In VideoFuzzy at the Movies, I talk about the FX production of Spike Lee's "Summer of Sam" (1998), and I take the opportunity to trace connections from the 1971 production of "The Zodiac Killer," including to Nightstalker reporter Carl Kolchak, highlighted in a couple of my favorite episodes of the Forgotten TV podcast you can find here and here. In What I've Been Watching, I comment on episodes of "Straight Up Steve Austin" on USA, which drew my attention to his podcast, David Spade's "Lights Out" on Comedy Central and "Supermarket Stakeout" on the Food Network. Finally, Ralph and I recently took in the FMCT's amazing production of Michael Frayn's "Noises Off!" In Upcoming Shows, looking forward to finally seeing the ninth season of "American Horror Story: 1984," a little bit of FXX weirdness in the series premiere of "Cake," and season premieres of "Superstore" and "The Good Place." Also, BBC America is observing the 50th anniversary of "Monty Python's Flying Circus" by airing first-season episodes Sept. 29. And shoutouts to Geek Radio Daily and Forgotten TV podcasts. Enjoy!

With Tooth, Fang, and Claw, the Motor City Madman released this seventh and final album as Ted Nugent's Amboy Dukes. When they started in the 60's the Amboy Dukes were more popular, but over time Ted Nugent's star would overshadow the group until finally Nugent would go out on his own. Over time, Ted Nugent's personality and politics have become so prominent that it can overshadow his musicianship, and it is good to remember how incredible he is as a guitarist.Join us as we explore this hard rocking album.“Sasha” This track is more mellow than what we've come to expect from Nugent. The song is about Ted Nugent's daughter and how her presence affects his outlook.“The Great White Buffalo”The lyrics on this track reflect Nugent's passion for both hunting and Native Americans, and reflect the wasteful approach taken by American hunters in the late 19th century towards the buffalo.“No Holds Barred”This deeper cut really showcases Nugent's guitar chops. He plays a 1962 Gibson Byrdland, and his style is clear in this straightforward rock song.“Living in the Woods”Another deep cut has "classic Ted" lyrics about hunting, outdoor living, and "feeling good, I got my face in the wind." When he was younger, Ted's military father would only buy him a guitar if he promised to practice daily. Clearly the practice paid off! ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:“The Liberty Bell March” by John Philip SousaAny fans of the British comedy show "Monty Python's Flying Circus" will recognize this theme song immediately. The Flying Circus ended its run in the UK in this year, but started a run in the US on PBS in syndication at the same time. STAFF PICKS:“Can't Get Enough” by Bad CompanyPaul Rodgers' distinctive work as lead man of BadCo made the group one of the signature groups of the 70's. This hit single was off their first studio release, and still one of their best.“Overnight Sensation (Hit Record)” by The Raspberries This is the hit off the fourth and last studio release from Eric Carmen and The Raspberries. This Cleveland-based group has great harmonies and piano riffs.“Billy, Don't Be a Hero” by Bo Donaldson and the HeywoodsRob's pick is a storytelling song that reflects the anti-war sense that was prominent in the mid-70's. It was also ranked by Rolling Stone as number 8 of the "10-worst songs of the 1970's"Rock Me Gently” by Andy KimWayne makes a rare decision of a #1 hit song as his staff pick with this soulful, funky effort by Canadian Andy Kim.INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:“Pick Up the Pieces” by Average White BandAnother funky hit takes us out this week on an instrumental note.
Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 53rd episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,800 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "We Are As Gods," I highlight a short-lived Steven Bochco courtroom cable drama "Raising the Bar," pulling up the pilot episode for my Friday Night Feature. In Cross Connections, I trace "Studio Six Feet Under" connections from that show through J. August Richards and Teddy Sears, then tracking actors Mark-Paul Gosselaar and J. August Richards' multiple appearances throughout my collection, as well as golden thread represented by Mark A. Sheppard. In my Classic VHS-to-DVD Collection, I found several fifth-season episodes of "24," along with a few episodes of Monty Python's Flying Circus, featuring some racist language that has not aged well, but also featuring a couple of housewives pondering the human condition culminating in a visit to Jean-Paul Sartre, so these guys, you gotta take the good with the bad. Also, Tom Cavanagh in "Love Monkey" and The Daily Show's spoof of the Obama intro video at the 2008 DNC. Then, as the title reference for this entry, I found Tom Lenk as Andrew Wells in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," the seventh season episode "Storyteller," a scrap of video featuring The Trio dancing about in Elysium fields with gold and a unicorn singing "We Are As Gods." I took a run at recreating that here, and in all modesty .. nailed it. :D In my Nerd Shows, my Classic Collection also turned up an episode in a History Channel science series called "Evolve," tracking the evolution and adaptation of skin across so many millions of years and species. Fascinating. In my direct-to-DVD Current Collection, I discuss the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards, "Pose," "Preacher," "Claws" and "A Million Little Things." Samantha Bee highlights expanded reproductive services provided at clinics in southern states to expand public support. In VideoFuzzy at the Movies, I touch on broadcast presentations of "I Now Pronounce you Chuck and Larry," "Dragonwyck," "I Wake Up Screaming," "The Bishop Murder Case," "Hangover Square," "Spider-Man: Homecoming," "The Bone Collector" and "The Perfect Guy," as well as "Sweet Charity," "Steel Magnolias" and "Woman Times Seven," featuring Shirley MacLaine and Peter Sellers. Finally, I encountered the Turner Classic Movies presentation of Vanessa Redgrave and Dustin Hoffman in 1979's "Agatha," exploring the real-life disappearance of queen of crime Agatha Christie. I first heard about that intriguing little speculation on the "All About Agatha" podcast by Kemper Donovan and Catherine Brobeck, and you can check that out here. In What I've Been Watching, Ralph and I recently finished watching all episodes of "Polar Bear Cafe" on Crunchyroll, and in upcoming shows, we'll be taking in the Fargo-Moorhead Community Theater production of Michael Frayn's "Noises Off!" They do a great job and I'm very much looking forward to that.
Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 52nd episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,800 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Metaphysical Zoological Hallucinations," (following some spoiler-y corrections on "Claws"), I highlight a half-dozen episodes from Aaron Sorkin's "The West Wing," archived from a fan-voted top ten episode Labor Day 2004 marathon on Bravo as part of the series' syndication on that channel. In Cross Connections, I trace "Studio Six Feet Under" connections from a collection of movies that aired on FXM Retro and which I pull up for comment under "VideoFuzzy at the Movies," including "Journey to the Center of the Earth," "Wizards," "The Man Who Wouldn't Die," "23 Paces to Baker Street," "Quintet," "11 Harrowhouse," "Mister 880," "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?" and "The Third Secret," highlighting Ed Begley Jr's multiple appearances throughout my collection, as well as appearances by Laurie Metcalf, Jason Manzoukis, Mark A. Sheppard and Barry Corbin. In my Classic VHS-to-DVD Collection, I talk about a few "West Wing" episodes I tracked down in my back catalog in preparing for my feature commentary, archive recordings of speeches by Joe Biden and Barack Obama at the 2008 Democratic National Convention, including an unfortunate camera mishap involving a streamer cannon. Also, comments on Monty Python's Flying Circus royal episode, Monk prop issues and Simpsons meme synchronicity. In my direct-to-DVD Current Collection, comments on the series finale of "Legion," as well as "Preacher," "Pose," "Pearson," "Archer 1999" and I listed out the menagerie they pulled in for a fun little [adult swim] bumper headed "Metaphysical Zoological Hallucinations," including the Motaur by Progressive, Gritty the hockey mascot, a cutie cthulie (an octupus) and a platypus, which they caption a "weirdo duck." Fun! In VideoFuzzy at the Movies, I highlight Bravo's presentation of "La La Land," comments on the FXM Retro movies I listed up there under Cross Connections, and a comment on the late Peter Fonda. Finally, in Upcoming Shows, Comedy Central is airing third season episodes of "BoJack Horseman." Enjoy!
Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 50th episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,800 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Ruddy Clip Show," I combine a fond look back at past episodes along with thoughts on my current viewing, opening with comments on the third season premiere of "Legion" in my Friday Night Feature. In my Classic VHS-to-DVD Collection, a shoutout to the 50th anniversary of Monty Python's Flying Circus along with some fun discoveries, including "Election Night Special," school awards presentations and close order swanning about. Also, comments on "Saving Grace," "South Park" and "The Simpsons." In my direct-to-DVD Current Collection, a Pride Month celebration of "the other" in basic cable presentations, including "Pose," "Claws" and "Good Behavior," comments on fifth season episodes of "Luther" and, expanding on a recent episode of "Pose," a public service announcement regarding proper sex dungeon etiquette. In VideoFuzzy at the Movies, I chat about "Dark Phoenix," "Logan" and M. Night Shyamalan's "The Visit." Finally, true to the episode title, I highlight the progress I've made in this effort with clips from past shows. Enjoy!
Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 48th episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,800 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Live in Front of a Studio Podcast," I pull up the third season premiere of "Psych," guest starring Cybil Shepherd for my Friday Night Feature, and run through a selection of Gus's nicknames. In Cross Connections, I trace connections from Todd Stashwick taking on a side role in "Psych" and his appearances throughout my media collection, and Elysia Rotaru in a smaller number of shows in my archives, but one of them is "Fringe," so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing those when they turn up. In my VHS-to-DVD Classic Collection transfers, I found Tori Amos giving a live performance of "Bouncing Off Clouds" on an episode of the Graham Norton Show, which also featured her in a 1980's ad for Just Right cereal. I also found a minute or so of what turned out to be Pamela Anderson's "V.I.P." interrupting a fourth-season episode of "The Shield," in which I saw what looked a lot like Glenn Close standing in front of my media collection circa 2008. ;) Also, in contrast to last time, I found some hilarious first-season episodes of "Monty Python's Flying Circus." Finally, the seventh season premiere of "Monk" was dedicated to the memory of longtime supporting character Stanley Kamel as Dr. Kroger. In my direct-to-DVD Current Collection recordings, I caught the presentation of ABC's "Live in Front of a Studio Audience" production hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and Norman Lear, featuring episode remakes of "All in the Family" and "The Jeffersons," followed by a commentary episode of "Nightline." Also, comments on "A Discovery of Witches," "Fosse Verdon," "Happy," and the third season finale of "Brockmire." And in my Nerd Shows, I chat about a History Channel presentation of "The Dead Sea Scrolls" with comments on episodes of "How the Universe Works" and "Breakthrough." And oh hey, my new mic arrived in the mail! Too late for this episode, but tune in next time and we'll find out what I sound like. Cheers!
Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 47th episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,800 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Podcasting in Plain Sight," I finally chat about "In Plain Sight" for my Friday Night Feature, a first-season episode featuring a somewhat cheesy '80s-style murder mystery plot centered at an art gallery, in which I draw connections between this show and "Burn Notice," another USA Networks production. In Cross Connections, I trace connections from "In Plain Sight" and from a rather eye-popping string of appearances by actor Patrick Fischler throughout my media collection. In the VHS-to-DVD transfers I talk about for my Classic Collection, touched off by a slug of episodes of "The Simpsons," I trace synchronous Bob Fosse references, off-putting late-series installments of "Monty Python's Flying Circus," and I trace connections through Spike TV's short run basic cable improv sitcom "The Factory." In my direct-to-DVD Current Collection, I zip through comments on "Supernatural," "A Discovery of Witches," "Superstore," "Brockmire," "Fosse Verdon," "Happy," and in movies, I added the FX presentations of M. Night Shyamalan's "Split" and Marvel's "X-Men Apocalypse," Dorothy L Sayers' "Haunted Honeymoon" (1940) and Agatha Christie's "Murder, She Said" (1961), and Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles" (1974). Also, all thoughts and strength to "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek as he's fighting pancreatic cancer, and to friends and family of Tim Conway in the wake of his passing. In my Video Outreach segment, I sit down with friend and fellow podcaster Marc Bailey, also known as Grailwolf, and we share our thoughts and reactions Marvel's epic adventure "Avengers: Endgame" and comments on Joss Whedon. In Upcoming Shows, I highlight the third-season premiere of TNT's "Claws" on June 9, and FXX's 10th-season premiere "Archer 1999" on May 29, and Brian Greene's "Light Falls: Space, Time and an Obsession of Einstein" set for PBS also on May 29. Plus, the premiere of my Video Outtakes segment. Happy viewing!
Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 46th episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging now more than 2,800 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Podcast by the NUMB3RS," I put a shoulder into a third season episode of "NUMB3RS" and talk about it for my Friday Night Feature. In Cross Connections, I trace connections from "NUMB3RS," "Fear Itself," "Boston Legal," "Happy!" "Grizzly Bear Stakeout" and "Polar Bear Family and Me." In the VHS-to-DVD transfers I talk about for my Classic Collection, I found episodes of "Commander in Chief," "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," "Monty Python's Flying Circus," an altogether ooky frame from an M&Ms commercial with the M&Ms dressed as The Addams Family, and music videos by The All American Rejects, The Killers, Lady Sovereign, Paris Hilton and Fergie. In Crowdsourcing, I need some help with a "Shakespeare for Complete Idiots" sketch from MADtv featuring Josh Meyers. I'm looking for help identifying his co-star in that sketch in Crowdsourcing Exhibit F, with screencaps here. In my direct-to-DVD Current Collection, I bring in episodes of "BoJack Horseman," "Will & Grace," "Miracle Workers," "Grey's Anatomy," "Fosse Verdon," "Happy!" "Supernatural," "Halt and Catch Fire" and "The Polar Bear Family and Me." The fourth season finale of "The Magicians" was absolutely fantastic, including "Houses" by Great Northern, that song here. I caught the series premiere of "A Discovery of Witches" and I caught a couple of movies: Taraji P. Henson in "Hidden Figures" and Peter Sellers in "Being There." Shoutouts to David Dean Bottrell's "Working Actor" and Voices of Deconversion's second anniversary -- congratulations! I got a correction, and in Upcoming Shows I'm looking forward to seeing "Avengers: Endgame," a local production of "Noises Off!" and series resumes of "Luther" and "Pose." Happy viewing!
Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 45th episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,700 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Death and the Podcast," I encounter one of my very favorite movies, the IFC presentation of "Death and the Maiden" (1994) on disc 653, and talk about it for my Friday Night Feature. In the VHS-to-DVD transfers I talk about for my Classic Collection, I found episodes of "Fear Itself," "MI-5," "Doctor Who," "South Park," and "Monty Python's Flying Circus." In Cross Connections I found, I celebrate dynamic performances of widely variant characters by Missi Pyle in episodes of "Boston Legal" and "In Plain Sight." Also of note: The new season of "Brockmire" will feature Richard Kind, J.K. Simmons, Martha Plimpton and Linda Lavin. Also, I track a possible sighting of Evan Peters in "The Inside," along with an actual sighting of Garret Dillahunt. In my direct-to-DVD Current Collection, I encounter the second season of "Good Behavior," four Shatterbox productions, employee chat banter in "Superstore," President Trump banter in "Full Frontal," BBC America's "The Great Bear Stakeout," the "Deadly Class" finale, and the second season premiere of "Happy!" In What I've Been Watching, "Captain Marvel" was amazing. I won't likely be watching "Shazam," but I'm definitely looking forward to "Avengers: Endgame." Also, we took in the University of Mary stage production of "The 39 Steps" at the Belle Mehus in downtown Bismarck, which was absolutely fantastic. In Upcoming Shows, I'm looking forward to the new season of "Brockmire" on IFC, and the series premiere of "A Discovery of Witches."

Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 44th episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,700 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "A Million Gallons of Schmaltz," I feature a third-season episode of "Boston Legal" and trace a few intriguing connections highlighted in the show, followed by a not-flattering examination of a recent episode of "The Blacklist." In my classic collection, I found a few more classic "Monty Python's Flying Circus" episodes, episodes of "Fear Itself" and "The Shield," and a fantastic Agahta Christie-themed fourth season episode of "Doctor Who" titled "The Unicorn and the Wasp." Plus, a few interesting commercials I found along the way. In my current collection, I tear into the finale of "A Million Little Things," then share my views on TNT's "I Am the Night" series, and "Root of Evil," the semi-affiliated podcast put together by the great-granddaughters of Dr. George Hodel, a suspect in the 1947 Black Dahlia murder in L.A. I trace some connections through Syfy's "Deadly Class" and "The Magicians," and bring in the pilot episode of "Parks and Recreation" -- that's one down, 124 to go -- looking forward to it! Then under Old Business, I reorganize my recordings of seasons 1 and 2 of NBC's "Trial & Error," and the second season of the FX production of "Legion" into homemade DVD sets, and take the opportunity to revisit my reactions to storyline and character development in "Legion." That is, I accept that the once more or less sympathetic title character has transformed into an amoral anti-hero, but I reject my fellow podcasters' assertion ("Damn That Television" Ep. 147, around timecode 0:49:30) that it's one of the worst shows of 2018. Finally, in Upcoming Shows, Chris Meloni and Patton Oswalt are set to return for a second season of "Happy!" on Syfy. Enjoy!

Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 43rd episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,700 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Studio Six Feet Under," I discuss the pilot episode of "Six Feet Under" and outline the series' counter claim to "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" as the mystical center of my media collection. I also draw connections to "Veronica Mars" and "Dead Like Me." In my classic collection, I found a bunch of fun music videos, one of my very favorite Monty Python's Flying Circus sketches, "The Trial of Harold Larch" and a National Geographic production called "Stonehenge Decoded." I comment on "The Doctor's Daughter," "Fear Itself" and "MI-5," and a funny thing happened on the way to a "Desperate Housewives" episode. In my current collection, Garner and Rowlands' touching performances in "The Notebook" spark some personal reflection. Also, comments on "Suicide Squad," "The Magicians," "Deadly Class," "A Million Little Things" and "Miracle Workers." Plus, comments on T-Mobile's Wall of Text. Finally, last time I'll mention it here, I'm still looking for assistance with crowdsourcing Exhibit E, sketch comedy featuring young women in medieval times. Photos posted here. Thanks!
Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 42nd episode of "VideoFuzzy," my twice-monthly progress report on cataloging more than 2,700 VHS transfers and digital recordings. In this installment, titled "Life, This Podcast and Everything," as I break into my fourth binder of DVDs, I discover the second half of the pilot episode of "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," which I assert is the mystical center of my personal media universe: Despite its having aired for only one season in 2006-07, it is remarkably easy to highlight connections between this show and just about everything else in my media collection. In my Classic Collection, I highlight significant episodes of "Dead Like Me," a mess of "Monty Python's Flying Circus" episodes and the goofy fourth season premiere of "Wire in the Blood" as well as "The Shield," "Nip/Tuck," "South Park," "The Simpsons" and the 2007 documentary "Prison Nation" on National Geographic. In my Current Collection, I talk about "I Am the Night" on TNT, "Surviving R. Kelly" and "Escaping the Madhouse: The Nellie Bly Story" on Lifetime, with comments on "grown-ish," "A Million Little Things" and "The Good Place," as well as Syfy presentations of "The Magicians," "Deadly Class" and an episode of "The Twilight Zone" featuring Carol Burnett. Also, I discuss my approach to spoilers. Finally, I'm still looking for assistance with crowdsourcing Exhibit E, sketch comedy featuring young women in medieval times. Photos posted here.
Hey folks! In this episode of Reggie's Comics Stories, I read an essay written by Terry Gilliam, alumnus of Monty Python's Flying Circus, about comics and humor legend Harvey Kurtzman, whom he worked for at Help! magazine during the 1960s! It originally appeared in the UK newspaper The Telegraph on July 10, 2009. Since this episode is a little short, I included an excerpt of an interview between Gilliam and VICE magazine from around the same time...in which he reiterates a lot of the same stuff. I hope you enjoy this look at how comics creators' influence can ripple out to influence some amazing people! patreon.com/chrisandreggie weirdcomicshistory@gmail.com chrisandreggie.com @cosmictmill @reggiereggie
Eric Idle is an English comedian actor, author, and singer-songwriter who found immediate fame with Monty Python's Flying Circus. Following their TV success, the group began making films, which include Holy Grail (1975), Life of Brian (1979) and The Meaning of Life (1983). Idle, who also founded The Rutles, authored the smash Broadway musical Spamalot, which won three Tonys. While in town for promoting his new sortabiography "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life", Idle sat down to talk about his illustrious career. Not a dull moment when Eric discusses music, comedy, TV, cinema and the #1 funeral song in the UK. Get the book here: https://goo.gl/vCq8J8 Moderated by Yigal Petreanu. We hope everyone is staying safe as Christmas approaches and life becomes hectic, chaotic and clouded with the insanity of shopping car park over-crowding in hot weather and high humidity. We recommend that you drink lots of water, rest in a cool shady spot and listen to something fun and entertaining, so in light of that here is our latest episode from the Nerds we all love. Please sit back, relax and enjoy that cold drink and let us entertain you.First up the Professor has news about Netflix getting involved with the Minecraft story mode. This is potentially the greatest news since Anthony Mundine was knocked out, and was silent for more than 30 seconds, not that we condone violence, but it was a teacher who took him down. Viva la Nerds!!!The DJ brings us news about the latest Bond movie changing director and a discussion about a number of things Bond related ensues. Buck the ancient Nerd is a Bond fan and has some trivia for us that is pretty cool. For example in which film did a camera man suffer an accident in which he nearly lost his life, but did lose a foot? DJ asks ‘who is everyone’s favourite Bond,’ so please send us a message and let us know, we will run a poll on Facebook also, we will let you know the results.Buck is excited about the story of Henry Sutton, a man referred to as Australia’s own Thomas Edison. The recent release of a book researched for a decade by his Great Granddaughter and recently published has him all bothered and aquiver. Trust us, this guy was a seriously cool inventor and scientist with some amazing work to his name. Also he met another of Bucks great heroes, Nikola Tesla and invented a telephone, a precursor to the television. Wow, I mean this bloke wrote a paper on heavier than air flight at the age of 14 which was later published Royal Aeronautical Journal of Britain. So grab your socks and hold on tight for the latest thrilling adventures from our Nerds.EPISODE NOTES:Netflix introduces Minecraft: Story Mode- https://www.netflix.com/au/title/80227995- https://comicbook.com/gaming/2018/11/27/telltales-minecraft-story-mode-on-netflix/- https://variety.com/2018/gaming/news/telltale-games-minecraft-story-mode-netflix-1203038125/The Life of Henry Sutton- https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-12-04/why-have-we-forgotten-australias-edison/10567060- https://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/scienceshow/australian-inventor-henry-sutton-remembered/10594524Plans for Bond 25- https://www.empireonline.com/movies/bond-25/cary-fukunaga-talks-plans-bond-25/Games currently playingBuck- PayDay 2 - https://store.steampowered.com/app/218620/PAYDAY_2/Professor- A Gummy’s Life - https://store.steampowered.com/app/585190/A_Gummys_Life/DJ- Darksiders 3 - https://darksiders.com/Other Topics DiscussedStranger Things the TV show- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stranger_ThingsBunnings: onion goes on the bottom- https://www.news.com.au/finance/business/retail/the-humble-bunnings-snag-in-bread-is-facing-a-change-for-safety-reasons-people-are-not-happy/news-story/f7352271caf24245bd5c5b8be51abbbeMinecraft: Story Mode the game- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minecraft:_Story_ModeMinecraft achievement : 3DS Minecraft Project- https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/minecraft-nintendo-3ds/Minecraft: Update Aquatic- https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Update_AquaticRACV: Royal Automobile Club of Victoria- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Automobile_Club_of_VictoriaHenry Sutton biographer and relative Lorayne Branch- https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-12-04/henry-sutton-biographer-and-relative-lorayne-branch/10577812Papers done by Henry Sutton- http://www.ctie.monash.edu.au/hargrave/biography1.html#suttonPatent US8770615: Collapsible Wheeled Stretcher- https://patents.google.com/patent/US8770615History of the Ambulance- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_ambulanceHistory of stretchers- http://www.ambulanceservices.co.uk/NAPAS%20Training%20Files/Training%20Files/Short%20History%20of%20Stretchers.pdfPhar Lap: champion racehorse- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phar_LapBeasts of No Nation- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beasts_of_No_Nation_(film)Sean Connery- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_ConneryDaniel Craig: the blond Bond- https://www.today.com/popculture/its-official-daniel-craig-first-blond-bond-wbna9662926Real reason to why George Lazenby left Bond- https://www.digitalspy.com/movies/a828613/james-bond-george-lazenby-real-reason/Daniel Craig is paid 25 million for the next Bond movie- https://www.businessinsider.com.au/daniel-craig-paid-25-million-for-next-bond-movie-2018-5?r=US&IR=TIvy: Soul Calibur character- https://soulcalibur.fandom.com/wiki/IvyDarksiders III: Apocalypse Edition- https://store.thqnordic.com/games/darksiders/1135/darksiders-iii-apocalypse-editionDr Who episode: The Chase- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chase_(Doctor_Who)Dr Who episode: Rosa- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosa_(Doctor_Who)Falcon Heavy by SpaceX- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falcon_HeavyFamous Birthdays4 Dec 1858 - Chester Greenwood, American inventor (invented earmuffs at 15), born in Farmington, Maine - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chester_Greenwood4th Dec 1865 - Edith Cavell, British Nurse celebrated for saving the lives of soldiers from both sides without discrimination and in helping some 200 Allied soldiers escape from German-occupied Belgium during the First World War, born in Swardeston, Norfolk - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edith_Cavell4 Dec 1948 - Lin Onus, Australian Aboriginal artist (Michael and I are just slipping down to the pub for a minute), born in Melbourne, Victoria - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lin_Onus5 Dec 1901 - Walt [Walter Elias] Disney, animator, (Mickey Mouse), producer and co-founder of Walt Disney Co., born in Chicago, Illinois -https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walt_Disney5 Dec 1903 - Cecil Frank Powell, English physicist who discovered pion (pi-meson), a subatomic particle (Nobel 1950), born in Tonbridge, England - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C._F._PowellEvents of Interest1 Dec 1948 – The Tamam Shud Case also known as the Mystery of the Somerton Man, is an unsolved case of an unidentified man found dead at 6:30 am, 1 December 1948, on Somerton beach, Glenelg, just south of Adelaide, South Australia. In their final episode about Flying Circus, Stephanie and Kaley reflect on the ins and outs of exhibitionism, the brilliance of the Cheese Shop sketch, and the futility of trying to analyze comedy. ...Oops.
I recently spent several hours on a transatlantic flight zooming in and out of the interactive map of the Earth on my seat's personal entertainment unit. Exploring tiny islands in the polar North…impossible inland seas in the middle of Central Asian deserts…Places so remote and strange that they fire the imagination. In 2018, It's not easy to wrap your mind around the fact that not all that long ago no human and no satellite had ever set eye on many of these places. For all anybody knew, much of the Earth was probably populated by Cyclopses and sea monsters. In the mid-1800s, the icy poles, north and south, were the final frontiers. And the brave men—and, even a bit braver perhaps, women disguised as men—who set off to explore them were quite literally heading into the unknown. My guest today is writer, actor, comedian, and explorer Michael Palin. He studied history at Oxford, then transformed comedy forever as a writer and performer in Monty Python's Flying Circus. Since then he's been traveling the world, writing books and hosting travel documentaries. His latest book, EREBUS, resurrects one of the greatest nautical mysteries of all time, and takes us deep into the icy heart of polar exploration in the mid-19th century. Surprise conversation starter clips in this episode: Nadya Tolokonnikova (of Pussy Riot) on women's rights in Russia John Cleese on political correctness and comedy Learn more about your ad choices. The chief topic of this episode is Spam. Spam and silly walks. Our TWO chief topics are Spam, silly walks, and the sticky subject of political incorrectness. Three--our three chief topics are Spam, silly walks, and political incorrectness... and the idiocy of censorship. *Amongst* our topics are such diverse elements as... I'll come in again.
Public stripping. Fresh fruit. Blancmanges playing tennis. It can only mean one thing: "It's... [Kaley and Stephanie's exploration of the first season of the groundbreaking and sublimely silly sketch show] Monty Python's Flying Circus!"
Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to. This time the guest is Tim himself, who talks to Stephen O'Brien about the fact that almost literally nobody he has ever met has heard of The Only Way by Lisa Stansfield, sixties crime caper movie The Brain, Jackanory's adaptation of Starstormers by Nicholas Fisk, the 'There Were Three Of Them, In A Boat...' Public Information Film, the original version of I Was Made To Love Magic by Nick Drake, trashy teen novel Secrets From The School Underground, early Mark Radcliffe vehicle Skyman, and forgotten 'fourth' Trumptonshire series Rubovia. Not to mention a certain less than reputable film that used to show up on German cable channels late on Saturday Night. Along the way we'll be finding out whether Kim Wilde Doing Abba is preferable to Abba Doing Kim Wilde, watching the Welsh Brass Eye, hearing about when Billy Elliot exploded (and even then wasn't as good as Musical Youth), and getting annoyed at a fictional schoolboy's opinions on Monty Python's Flying Circus. And if you're listening, Ian Radio 4 Extra, sort those repeats out! Find out more about Tim's new book, Can't Help Thinking About Me, at http://timworthington.org/

As Better Call Saul returns for its third season, Jeff Drake joins us to discuss the slow-burning premiere (with a few peeks ahead at its showier second episode, shhhh). Around The Dial clicks through the series finale of Switched At Birth, Amazon's under-the-radar spy show Patriot, and American Experience's three-part series, "The Great War." Jeff presents his case for the induction of Monty Python's Flying Circus's series premiere, "Whither Canada?," to the Canon. And after naming the week's Winner and Loser, we all learn that some demented maniac (you know you are, Rob Hartmann) has gamified F/M/K. All rise!Special Guest: Jeff Drake. What did Eric Idle right after Monty Python? Rutland Weekend Television. Harmon and Scott dive into the history behind the 1975 cult TV show that was responsible for launching the legendary Beatles parody: The Rutles. Idle teamed with musician Neal Innes - from the Bonzo Dog (Doo-Dah) Band - who was considered the seventh member of Monty Python and crooned songs in Monty Python in the Holy Grail. Rutland Weekend Television (RWT) was a television sketch show on BBC2 that was written by Eric Idle with music by Neil Innes. The show lasted for two series; with six episodes filmed for the first series in 1975, and seven episodes for the second series in 1976. A Christmas special was also produced and broadcasted on Boxing Day 1975. Monty Python's Flying Circus had just ended the year before. And Eric Idle was the first of the Pythons to have his own comedy series. (Faulty Towers ran later in 1975.) The production studio for the show was tiny. The cast and crew had to carry the entire set up flights of stairs before each filming. The premise of RWT was that the show was "Britain's smallest television network," and broadcasted from England's smallest county, Rutland. The pairing of Innes and Idle meant a lot of funny musical parodies - such as The Gay Whistle Test: Did you know that former Beatles member, George Harrison, played a role in Rutland Weekend Television; as a pirate? Also, the bands Toad the Wet Sprocket and Death Cab for Cutie - got their names from references connected to the show. A segment on Rutland Weekend Television later spun off into the full-length mockumentary, The Rutles. In 2002, there was a sequel to The Rutles called Can't Buy Me Lunch. It wasn't very good. But Rutland Weekend Television's legacy is that it created the musical mockumentary and begot other comedy's set in TV studios, such as SCTV. Learn more about your ad choices. In this week's episode we look at the work of enfant terrible, Terry Gilliam. First known for being the animator in MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS, he took his unusual style into the movies. His films have a visual style that is distinctly his own. Mostly working in the fantasy realm, his films can be comedic, surreal, claustrophic and magic. He is also known for his battles with Hollywood, as in taking on Unviersal Studios in THE BATTLE OF BRAZIL and getting his cut released. Terry Gilliam is a master filmmaker. The films under discussion are BRAZIL, TWELVE MONKEYS, FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS and THE BROTHERS GRIMM. O grupo de comédia britânico, Monty Python, que se popularizou na década de 70/80, é conhecido pelo seu humor ácido, satírico e escrachado. É sem dúvida o grupo de comédia mais talentoso que existiu. Join Shawn and Scott as they take a look back at a magical time in the history of Nickelodeon, back in the early 80's when a low budget Canadian sketch show for kids dared to defy convention, prompting many to say its title: "You Can't Do That On Television"! Listen as they break down the episode entitled "Pop Music", which most notably, was the television debut of a young Alanis Morrisette! They'll talk about Alanis' short run on the show, the history of the infamous green slime, and how it ended up becoming intertwined with Nickelodeon's identity as a network, how the longtime kid host, Christine McGlade, pretty much got the job accidentally, and how this show was heavily influenced by Monty Python's Flying Circus and Laugh In. So many sketches, so many that wouldn't be aired today! So relax in your dungeon, avoid saying "I don't know", and enjoy this slice of 80's nostalgia along with us! I heard that! Today's Guest: Bill Jones, Ben Timlett, documentary filmmakers, Boom Bust Boom (starring Terry Jones of "Monty Python's Flying Circus") Watch this exclusive Mr. Media interview with Bill Jones and Ben Timlett by clicking on the video player above! Mr. Media is recorded live before a studio audience full of people who always knew Alan Greenspan was full of shit but were more afraid of his journalist wife, Andrea Mitchell, than they were the head of the Fed… in the NEW new media capital of the world… St. Petersburg, Florida! If you will only sit still for one lesson in how Western economies work – or, don’t – I recommend you watch Boom Bust Boom by filmmakers Bill Jones and Ben Timlett. The documentary is a masterful explanation of the cycles caused by greed and mass psychosis, accomplished through a combination of historical recaps and expert witnesses, original animation, art and even “South Park” clips, plus much humor and song. BILL JONES podcast excerpt: "Ben and I just watched 'The Big Short' where they go, 'You're betting against the housing market? The housing market NEVER goes down! And I kept shouting at the screen, 'YEAH? 1929!!!" You can LISTEN to this interview with BILL JONES and BEN TIMLETT, documentary filmmakers of BOOM BUST BOOM, by clicking the audio player above! Oh, and actor John Cusack. The film’s third director and narrator’s not bad either: it’s Bill Jones’s dad, Terry Jones, whom you might recognize as a co-founder of “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” and an accomplished filmmaker in his own right. He did, after all, write and direct Monty Python and The Holy Grail, Life of Brian, and The Meaning of Life. Perhaps you’ve heard of him? BEN TIMLETT podcast excerpt: "Do you want to know how Bill and I met? Bill's got an older sister; I've got an older brother. And we lived in the same area of South London. One day, Bill's Dad, Terry Jones, was dropping off Bill's sister near my house..." BILL JONES podcast excerpt: "... And my dad sees this little boy wandering around. He goes, 'Hello, little boy! I've got a little boy at home about your age. Do you want to come home and play with him?' And the last thing Ben's Mum sees is this strange man waving goodbye..." BEN TIMLETT podcast excerpt: "...I got in, and Terry said to my Mum, 'I'll bring him home at the end of school.' My Mum was like, 'I believe I recognize him (from 'Monty Python'), but I can't believe that just happened!" BILL JONES podcast excerpt: "We've been friends ever since." As for Bill Jones and Ben Timlett, this is their third feature together. Their last project was A Liar’s Autobiography, starring the five surviving Pythons. Before that, they collaborated on Absolutely Anything starring Simon Pegg and Robin Williams. Key interview moments: • 5:45 Bill Jones talks about comparisons between his film, Boom Bust Boom, and The Big Short; • 13:45 Ben Timlett discusses the challenges in editing such a complicated subject, let alone breaking down the immense crapload of jargon inherent in any financial discussion ; • 20:00 The filmmakers tell the true story of how the met as little boys (hint: it involves "Monty Python's Flying Circus" original member Terry Jones and a virtual kidnapping). Luke's ENGLISH Podcast - Learn British English with Luke Thompson
[The Constitutional Peasants Scene] Here's another episode about Monty Python's Flying Circus, and in this one we're going to be covering some very interesting topics, such as medieval history, old myths legends & folklore, the British monarchy, marxism and radical politics. In terms of language we're going to look at some old fashioned formal poetic language, some political vocabulary and also some intonation and sentence stress, and we'll be doing all of that while understanding and hopefully enjoying a funny scene from a classic British comedy film. So, you really are getting everything in this episode (well, maybe not everything but you know what I mean). A lot of this is transcribed at teacherluke.co.uk. If you find this episode on the website you'll also see a video, a script for that video and more information. So let's get started. Click here for transcripts & videos http://wp.me/p4IuUx-1Og

The last time Michael Palin appeared at the Edinburgh International Book Festival was in 1987, when it was directed by Jenny Brown. Since then, the co-founder of Monty Python's Flying Circus has become an adventurous travel journalist, while Brown is now Scotland's leading literary agent. Twenty five years on, both returned for this event, which was recorded live at the Book Festival, and talked about Michael Palin's captivating new novel, The Truth, whose action leads its hero around the world – thanks to a deal struck by a leading literary agent...
Kirsty Young's castaway is the animator and director Terry Gilliam. He first planted his foot-print on our cultural landscape more than thirty years ago - back then, it was a huge, animated foot which squashed everything beneath it and became one of the defining images of Monty Python's Flying Circus. In the years since, his film credits have included Brazil, Twelve Monkeys and The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus. Now aged 70, he's directing his first opera. He says: "I've always liked the extremes, the edges. I like to know where the cliff is, but you only find out by stepping off." The castaway in Desert Island Discs this week is Douglas Adams, creator of the anarchic world conjured up by The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. He'll be talking to Sue Lawley about how, as a child, he found it difficult to communicate with the adult world, and didn't speak until he was four years old. But as his confidence grew, he set his sights on being a nuclear physicist - an ambition later replaced by a burning desire to be John Cleese in Monty Python's Flying Circus. In fact, he has become a hugely-successful author, a passionate amateur naturalist and a rock star manque.
