In this episode I'm addressing the article that The Grio wrote entitled, Trump Abolishing Education Department spells doom for Black America. I'm reminding us of how we should not be surprised or scared not one iota of what the president elect and his cabinet plan to put in place and take away because their actions are aligned with the white supremacist values that America holds so near and dear to their devlish hearts. The question is what are we going to do about it?!Are we going to curl up in a corner, be scared and talk about how we're doomed or are we going to get back to the mindset that our ancestors like Thomas Sankara, Marcus Garvey and Harriet Tubman had when fighting back against a system that has always intended to destroy our humanity. How many times have we went off on our children because, they didn't get their homework done right? How many times have we threatened them for not completing their homework? What happened to us leading with love, grace and mercy when dealing with our children? In this episode I talk about why in the Black community we have normalized beating and going off on our children when we want them to do their work. We have simply threw out the aspect of leading with love and thinking we're supposed to always lead with discipline and punitive tactics. I'll of course be addressing where that toxic mindset comes from, the results of choosing trauma based parenting and 5 ways we can begin to make a radical shift away from these trans-generational child rearing tactics. In this episode I'm on my solo box talking about the beauty and power of being silent. This topic came about because of a question that a teenager blurted out in a quiet classroom which was "why is it so quiet?" I remember I wanted to address this issue because I wrote it down in my notebook the day it happened which was April 17, 2024. This notion of having to have noise, distractions or constant talking or always doing something is something that we have normalized in the Black community. However, I want us to start digging deep and force ourselves to have a mind shift so we can begin to normalize being at peace. Let's begin to normalize being still. In the stillness and peace this is when the growth occurs. Be sure to have your notebooks and pens ready because I'll be sharing with you 3 important benefits to being silent. So of course her growing up around literacy led her to becoming an author her self. She definitely has a story to tell seeing as though she is a cancer survivor ya'll. In spite of it all she still became a creative strategist, brand consultant, author and podcaster! She makes it clear that we have no excuses when it comes to pursuing our goals and dreams. In this episode I address two issues that have been talked about heavy in the media. The first is how Ron Disantis the racist governor of Florida is on mission to erase the truth about the history of this country being taught in the classrooms. Even though I address there ridiculous requirements that must be met in the classroom in order to teach the children I make it clear that this is a systemic issue not just an isolated racist who's displaying his ignorance. Then, the second issue I address is the sad senseless murder of Tyre Nichols that even though it was committed by 5 Black cops it was still a byproduct of white supremancy. This is the episode that you must have your notebooks and pens because I am going in with no sugarcoating and no chasers!

So then, I realized this was an aspect of being a Free person. That's when I decided to add the other components to freedom which are resisting the negativity and oppression and resilience being able to push through and persevere even when times get tough. I also talk about how we must be real with our children in regards to the racism that they are faced with daily and what that looks like inside the classrooms. I give real examples of how the classrooms are headed by white women and they act as police officers in a sense monitoring the behaviors of our Black children and making sure they don't get out of line. As we are very well aware of the labeling and medications that are pushed in our faces to give to our children who are not complying with the docile expectations they have of them. I'm also going down memory lane by sharing some of my memories of the times I spent with my late grandmother Gloria Sallee Rice. I also talk about different forms of literacy and how it's not just relegated to reading and writing only.
