Daniel Ismail, co-head of strategic research at Green Street, joined the REIT Report to discuss recent REIT M&A activity and its implications for the sector.REIT M&A activity has been lively in 2025, with the pace expected to continue into 2026, especially if interest rates decline, Ismail said. At the same time, however, the size of transactions is about 80% smaller than over the past decade, he added.Deals announced this month include the acquisition of Sotherly Hotels Inc. (Nasdaq: SOHO) by a joint venture backed by Kemmons Wilson Hospitality Partners and Ascendant Capital Partners, and the acquisition of Plymouth Industrial REIT, Inc. (NYSE: PLYM) by Makarora Management LP and Ares Alternative Credit funds.Ismail pointed out that in a typical REIT M&A event, the premium to unaffected share price is about 15%. In the case of Plymouth Industrial, that premium stands at 50%, and jumps to 150% for Sotherly.
In this powerful conversation, Veronica sits with Zeena Ismail - a Palestinian somatic practitioner, trauma educator and writer - to explore what it means to belong, to heal and to stay rooted in the midst of ongoing displacement and collective trauma.Zeena's work weaves politicised somatics with land-based practice and systemic literacy, inviting Arabs and diaspora communities into embodied repair through her six-month bilingual programme, Where Do We Begin. They explore the intersections of trauma, resistance and reclamation - how bodies hold the weight of occupation, and how safety, grief and aliveness can coexist. This episode invites us to look beyond ideology and into the body as a site of truth, where liberation and safety must include everyone.Rooted Healing's year-long programme, Deepen Your Roots, is now enrolling for its third cohort. Acting as an incubation ground and compass toward a more beautiful world, Deepen Your Roots invites participants into a year of embodied exploration through place, body, spirit and calling - nourishing leadership and participation in the Great Turning. This cycle leans more deeply into participatory, relational learning, with co-created practice, small-group inquiry, ritual and embodied exploration, and a renewed effort to gather elders and living-tradition keepers whose presence anchors the work toward humility, continuity and intergenerational wisdom. In this inspiring episode, Ismail sits down with Daiyan Heard, a young college wrestler and skilled barber, to talk about life, discipline, and purpose. From the mat to the barbershop, Daiyan shares his personal journey—navigating the challenges of today's world, staying focused through adversity, and finding balance between passion and responsibility. This conversation dives deep into what it means to grow up in modern times, overcome struggle, and stay grounded while chasing your dreams. Tune in for real talk, motivation, and wisdom from the next generation. •Support from older mentors or adults is not just “nice to have”—it often makes a measurable difference in school performance, life choices, and long-term success. •Intergenerational relationships (older generation guiding youth) help fill in gaps for those who may lack consistent support at home or in school. •Regular, consistent relationships are more powerful: one-off advice helps, but ongoing mentoring gives stronger results. •Beyond academics, the older generation helps shape identity, resilience, and moral grounding—all critical given the pressures youth face today. From these stats, you can draw connections that help illuminate your interview with Daiyan: •Having at least one trusted adult—coach, mentor, someone older—is important. In SC, most youth do have someone they can rely on, but “having someone who knows you well” doesn't always mean that person is active or capable of guiding through adversity. •In sports (like wrestling), youth benefit greatly from social recognition, structure, discipline, and community. Given Daiyan's dual life as both athlete and barber, that structure and mentorship from both coaches and master barbers can amplify positive outcomes. •Vocational mentorship (like in barbering) isn't as well documented in peer-reviewed studies as sports mentoring, but organizations like the American Barber Association do engage youth apprenticeship and certification programs which implies formal support and structured paths. •When youth don't perceive support (for instance, in sports that are less popular in their community), they may feel isolated. Daiyan's perspectives on struggle and discipline could be richer by speaking to whether wrestling is embraced in his community, whether his barber craft is encouraged, etc.

Going from fighting with Muslims in the Bosnian civil war along with a Pakistani militant group that ultimately had him being convicted and imprisoned for nearly 14 years on weapons charges for violating U.S. neutrality laws is not a background you'd expect for a recently appointed member of President Trump's White House's Religious Liberty Commission. But that is the story of Ismail Royer. While in prison, Royer abandoned Islamist radicalism and now works with nonprofits to promote peace and combat religious extremism. As the Director of the Islam and Religious Freedom Action Team for the Religious Freedom Institute, Royer was instrumental in galvanizing Muslims and people of other faiths to stand up to the Montgomery County School District in Maryland that had refused to let parents opt their children out of LGBTQ indoctrination.Ultimately, the case (Mahmoud v Taylor) went to the U.S. Supreme Court where they ruled in favor of the parents. Great precedent. Fascinating story.Hope you can join us for my discussion with Ismail.Support the show
The Emotional Intelli-Gents Podcast: Navigating Leadership with Emotional intelligence
In this insightful episode of the Emotional Intelligence Podcast, hosts Sameer and Ismail dive deep into the delicate balance leaders must strike between setting a firm vision and exercising emotional intelligence (EQ) to effectively lead their teams. They explore how autonomy and flexibility impact staff anxiety and performance, the importance of clear, measurable goals, and how leaders can use EQ skills to communicate vision, manage emotions, and motivate diverse team members.KEY TAKEAWAYSAllowing team members to retain control over aspects of their workday reduces anxiety and resistance. Leaders should balance autonomy with clear vision and goals.Effective leadership requires setting concrete, measurable goals and a consistent vision that the team can rally behind.Tailor your communication style to individual team members' motivations—whether financial incentives, process stability, or mental peace—to gain buy-in.Leaders must manage their own emotions to remain calm and effective, especially when facing negativity or resistance. While the ultimate goals should remain firm, leaders should allow flexibility in how tasks are accomplished to accommodate team members' needs.Making firm, fair, and timely decisions based on available information helps maintain momentum and trust.Transparent communication about the reasons behind decisions and processes helps teams understand and accept necessary changes.EQ is not about being “nice” but about being effective in achieving goals and leading people.Like parenting, leadership requires knowing when to be firm and when to be flexible to guide people toward success.Mastering emotional intelligence equips leaders with a powerful tool to influence and motivate their teams effectively.Feel free to send us an email at info@emotionalintelligents.com and share your thoughts or visit us at https://linktr.ee/emotionalintelligents Send us a text
In this episode of The People's Podcast by Ismail, we sit down with Michael for an open and honest conversation about men's mental health, the struggles he faced growing up, and how he continues to move forward in life. Michael shares his personal journey — the pain, the resilience, and the lessons he's learned along the way. Men's mental health is an issue that doesn't get talked about enough. The statistics are alarming: nearly 1 in 10 men experience depression or anxiety, and men die by suicide at a rate almost 4 times higher than women. Despite this, many men still feel pressure to stay silent, to “tough it out,” or to hide what they're going through. Michael's story is a powerful reminder that silence is not strength. By opening up about his experiences, he breaks down barriers and shows the importance of seeking help, finding hope, and building a healthier future. This conversation is raw, real, and needed. Whether you're struggling yourself or want to better understand the challenges men face, this episode is for you. ⸻ Hashtags & Keywords for Reach: #MensMentalHealth #ThePeoplesPodcast #MentalHealthAwareness #HealingJourney #BreakingTheSilence #MentalHealthMatters #GrowthMindset #Inspiration #PodcastInterview #Resilience #MentalHealthForMen Thank you for watching this important conversation with Michael. Men's mental health is something we all need to talk about more.
In this deeply moving episode, host Lucy Hutchings Hunt speaks with Laila Ezzat Al Shana — a 23-year-old poet, mother, and founder of Humans To Be, a grassroots project bringing joy and healing to children in Gaza. Laila shares her personal story of raising two young children amidst bombardment and displacement, and how poetry became her way to resist silence and keep hope alive. She speaks about carrying her babies through the rubble of her shelled home, finding strength in a single tree outside her window, and her mission to create spaces where Gaza's children can laugh and simply be children again. This conversation is raw, honest, and profoundly human — a meeting of two mothers and poets, divided by geography but united by love, words, and the belief that even in devastation, hope can bloom.
What were the first words you said to your child when you became a parent? Was there something you needed to say to officially welcome him or her into this world, or was it all just a blur? For longtime Slate journalist and author Aymann Ismail the task was clear: He had to recite a Muslim call to prayer into his newborn son's right ear, a ritual that's been performed by countless Muslim fathers through the generations, all over the world. But was he appeasing God, or his own father? On this episode of Paternal, Ismail discusses a life spent navigating being a Muslim kid who preferred cartoons over daily prayers, and then how his faith influences his role as a father to two young kids now. And all the while he's been trying to somehow live up to the expectations of his father, a devout and educated Muslim man fixated on the kind of man he believes his son should be. Ismail's new book, Becoming Baba: Fatherhood, Faith and Finding Meaning in America, is available now wherever you buy books.
Have you ever trusted an animal's instinct when it comes to trusting people?Today I want to introduce you to Ismail, I had the pleasure of meeting Ismail on one of my trips to Cappadocia and have come to look forward to seeing his smile and his company. Ismail is one so much talent, a kind heart, and someone that is easy to laugh and get creative with when it comes to photography and his love for horsesWe chat a little about what it means to allow the pursuit of what you love change your life, how his first horse led him to becoming a veterinarian, and how that brought him to Cappadocia, and to what life is like for him now. We talk about how learning is something to never give up on and how the pursuit of being open to learning allows us to welcome incredible things into our lives. He shares one of the most important life lessons I believe we can all learn, in how knowing time with ourselves is not something to fear but rather something to press into. How life can allow us the opportunity to do so or we can pursue it for ourselves, and how it leads to allowing us to know who we want to become. Ismail is kind, someone I trust, someone with a gentle heart, one who works hard, and pours into his work without hesitation. Ismail is someone you will not get to know fully from this episode, like most that I get to share on here, you are getting a small part of someone's story, a piece of what makes them who they are, and I'm so honored to share a part of this humans story with you. So tune in today and meet this sweet human, I believe animals hold an ability to know the good in someone, and I have witnessed time and again Ismail to be someone who holds the trust of a horse, and it is such humans that I believe make this world a kinder and more loving place to be And to you Ismail thank you, thank you for letting me share a little of you, thank you for the times of sharing conversation, for getting to create with you, for your gentle and warm heart, and the chance to know you more. You are a beautiful soul and one I am grateful to know. May you always be seen fully for who you are in this life

The Emotional Intelli-Gents Podcast: Navigating Leadership with Emotional intelligence
In this episode, we delve into the pervasive myth that a perfect leader exists—someone who has all the answers and never makes mistakes. Our hosts, Sameer and Ismail, discuss the pressures leaders face to appear flawless and the implications of this mindset on their effectiveness and authenticity. They explore the importance of vulnerability, the impact of admitting mistakes, and how emotional intelligence plays a crucial role in leadership.KEY TAKEAWAYSPerfection is an Illusion: No leader can be perfect; striving for perfection can lead to stress and inauthenticity.Vulnerability Builds Trust: Admitting mistakes and showing vulnerability can enhance a leader's credibility and foster a supportive team environment.Embrace Mistakes as Learning Opportunities: Mistakes are a natural part of growth; leaders should encourage their teams to learn from them rather than fear them.Emotional Intelligence is Key: Effective leaders must develop emotional maturity, which includes self-regulation and the ability to respond thoughtfully under pressure.Focus on Solutions, Not Blame: Creating a culture of psychological safety allows team members to feel comfortable making mistakes and focusing on solutions rather than assigning blame.Feel free to send us an email at info@emotionalintelligents.com and share your thoughts or visit us at https://linktr.ee/emotionalintelligents Send us a text
