In this episode I talk about the ways in which we need to prepare our children to be confident, educated and have conviction when they are going into these "school" environments real soon. I'm also talking about the ways in which our Black children's natural head start gets disrupted and the ways in which we can combat this by referencing the book Awakening the natural genius of Black children by Dr. Amos Wilson. Make sure you have your notebooks and pens ready to write down this powerful information.

Amos Wilson, the Pan-African psychologist, said "cultural continuity is achieved by educating children in the ways of their culture." He also said that "the way to conquer a people is to destroy the love they have for one another." So in honor of Black History Month and Valentine's Day, Dr. Laura and Dr. Myriam discuss how we can balance our needs for mental health and the passing down of real Black history through the love of the Black FAMILY.

In this episode I reference the book The Developmental Psychology of the Black child by Dr. Amos Wilson in which he talks about how advanced our Black babies are in comparison to white babies. However due to this cruel system of white supremacy that begins to change for our Black children at around the age of 3. This reference is extremely crucial to note because subconsciously due to the inferiority complex that Black people have bought into we tend to doubt our Black children's genius, and we don't prepare them adequately in all areas of life so that they can thrive in a system that has been set up to destroy them. In the second part of this episode I had the pleasure of talking to Hassannah Abdul-Wadood a brilliant and beautiful 16 year old about her reading experiences, advice on how to get our young people into reading and her book recommendations as well. Ideopraxis, a term coined by renowned African scholar Ayi Kwei Armah, means "the translation of ideas systematically embraced into structured behavior and lifestyle. Ideopraxis is the yardstick that separates revolutionary performers from phones" (Remembering The Dismembered Continent, pg 75-76). With this term in mind, we created our Ideopraxis Series. This series consists of us airing our Conscientization 101 produced tracks from our FREE GIFT musical commentaries featuring Dr. Marimba Ani, Dr. Amos Wilson, and Dr. John Henrik Clarke.

In his book, Black-On-Black Violence, Amos Wilson argues that "the criminalization of the Black American male is a psycho-politically engineered process designed to maintain the dependency and relative powerlessness" of Black people. Originally published in 1994, the book is still deeply relevant to reflect on today. In this episode, Page sits down with teacher and organizer, Jasmine Adams, to discuss the lessons from this book.

Education in the 21st Century Dr. Amos N. Wilson (September 19, 1941 – January 14, 1995) was a pioneering American African psychologist, social theorist, Pan-African thinker, scholar and author. Born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, in 1941, Wilson completed his undergraduate degree at the acclaimed Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, mastered at The New School of Social Research, and attained his doctorate degree from Fordham University. Wilson understood and taught the power differential between Africans and non-Africans is the major social problem of the Twenty-First century. He taught this power differential, and white “racist” attitudes, as principally responsible for the existence of racism, domination, oppression, and deprivation in the lives and interpersonal relations of American Africans, Continental Africans and other Diasporic Africans. “When we get into social amnesia - into forgetting our history - we also forget or misinterpret the history and motives of others as well as our motives. The way to learn of our own creation, how we came to be what we are, is getting to know ourselves. It is through getting to know the self intimately that we get to know the forces that shaped us as a self. Therefore, knowing the self becomes a knowledge of the world. A deep study of Black History is the most profound way to learn about the psychology of Europeans and to understand the psychology that flows from their history. If we don't know ourselves, not only are we a puzzle to ourselves; other people are also a puzzle to us as well. We assume the wrong identity and identify ourselves with our enemies. Too, too, too many well-meaning & not to well meaning stolen Afrikans feel that to stop black on black crime & victimization by police, you must march, pray harder, have town hall meetings with the po-po, petition your congressman, alderman, council woman, etc. These non-solutions have been tried AND FAILED yet those who don't know their history, are adamant at constantly doing them again... so they can fail for yet another generation. Tonight we will delve into Dr. Amos Wilson's great work BLACK ON BLACK VIOLENCE: BLACK SELF ANNIHILATION IN SERVICE OF white DOMINATION, particularly his last chapter on NEUTRALIZING BLACK ON BLACK VIOLENCE & walk through his suggestions for such. His responses & analysises are quite different from the talk show, news special, same old tripe that is usually suggested.
