A new trio from MiN New York is the Experimental Collection. Described by the brand as ‘the white space where we create our own story', Liam and Jenna sniff these three fragrances in today's episode. These scents are not necessarily ‘avant-garde' but more on the playful side. Firstly, Pure Heart is full of sweet red berries and clean, white musks with subtle vetiver and resins. Shimmering with a pleasant combination of notes, Pure Heart is a very appealing scent. Hall of Fame, again plays with sweet fruits, yet in quite a different manner. Peach and red apple combine with jasmine, moving into deep, ambery musks and patchouli. Finally, First Time reminds us of Persian sweets with its syrupy fruity rose and pistachio. This is a beguiling fragrance with a gourmand leaning. We encourage you to explore the Experimental Collection and the full range from MiN New York at our Emporium boutique and online store.
For this Valentine's Day, Liam presents two rose chypres. The classic symbol of romance, rose's home is in the chypre family. A mossy, traditional style of chypre, Eau Suave by Parfum d'Empire reveals fruity and spicy facets alongside a classical rose. This perfume, composed by Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, is particularly recommended for fans of vintage fragrances. Moving into the realm of the neo-chypre is Une Tonne de Roses, by Michel Almairac for his brand Parle Moi. By substituting patchouli for the traditional oakmoss base, a different expression of the traditional chypre is achieved. A touch of carnation brings out the sharpness here, and plenty of white musk and patchouli provides the chypre base. All the while, a fiery and passionate rose remains the star. Liam believes that rose is the beginning of possibility in perfumery, and we encourage you to explore these two fragrances at our Emporium boutique and online store.
The team at LKNU wish you a Happy Lunar New Year! Celebrated throughout East Asia, the cycle of twelve years has an animal associated with each, traditionally bestowing those born in that period with certain zodiac characteristics, not unlike western astrological horoscopes. Liam and Jenna are here to help you greet this upcoming year, the Year of the Rabbit, with three fragrances that share the somewhat unexpected note of carrot seed. Anatole Lebreton's Incarnata and Vermeil from Bienaimé both use carrot seed in conjunction with iris to create a traditional cosmetic accord, bringing to mind nostalgic lipsticks and powders. Vermeil is the lighter, sweeter, of the two, tinted with notes of raspberry and heliotrope. Incarnata is a stronger, deeper scent; its base of vanilla and amber giving depth and power. Finally, Trimerous from Jorum Studio is an earthy carrot, fresh from the garden, and blended with an exquisite Florentine orris butter. Facets of nectarine and pink pepper give Trimerous a freshness and modern touch. ©2023 LKNU Parfumerie. All rights reserved. lknu.com.au
A brand new release from Greek perfumer Theodoros Kalotinis is Symposium. Here, Liam shares why this fragrance has a special place in his heart, and explains the Ancient Greek culture of the symposium - a forum for discussion and, of course, drinking. A unique perfume, Symposium pivots around an aromatised wine accord, before simmering down to a warm ambery base. We've just restocked the exceptional range from Oslo's Son Venin. The first perfume Jenna and Liam discuss is the popular Santal Super, a fragrance that Liam describes as 'cedar rendered in glass'. This is a crisp, aromatic and transparent woody scent with a cedar-like dryness from Iso E Super. A clever dose of pepper and jasmine has a profound effect on this fragrance. 0905 displays a smooth, gentle leather impregnated with the clean freshness of lavender, cardamom and ginger. Primarily an orange blossom fragrance, 3007 is completed with jasmine, vanilla, musk and sandalwood. We find 3007 fragrance to be a floral fragrance with a masculine sensibility. Finally, Le Voleur is a velvet-lined chest of saffron, iris and precious treasures from the Silk Road. Find the Son Venin collection at our Emporium boutique and online store. ©2023 LKNU Parfumerie. A new release from MiN New York is Blackstar, a fragrance which shares its name with the final studio recording from the late, great David Bowie. This album was released on his 69th birthday, just two days before his passing. In the words of MiN New York, "Blackstar is dedicated to the light of human consciousness during a time of powerful transition". In this review, Jenna explores this fragrance which centres around the darkness of incense, brightened by the hopeful notes of lily of the valley and raspberry leaf. Liam and Jenna explore three fragrances from Argentina's Frassaï. Beginning with the peach and osmanthus of Tian Di, a mesmerising scent that's inspired by the Chinese mythology of an everlasting peach tree. Taking us towards a spicier, gourmand territory is Teisenddu, which evokes the torta negra tea cake, originally brought to Argentina by Welsh immigrants. Finally, the joyful Verano Porteño brings to mind the summer breeze of Buenos Aires with its citrus, spice and lively white florals. Liam and Jenna usher in 2023 with their New Years Eve scents, chosen for each other. Two leather fragrances of gregarious character, perfect for the social season. For Liam, Jenna has selected Cuir Velours by Naomi Goodsir - a suede as supple as butter, enveloping with delicious resins, rum, spices, and honey. A scent which lingers and coaxes. And for Jenna, Liam presents Divine Perversion, a fractured yet whole blend constructed by Francesca Bianchi for Hedonik. The heat of leather is contrasted with raspberry and caramel, folding into a divine iris heart. The team at LKNU wish you a fragrant and vibrant year ahead. ©2023 LKNU Parfumerie. This Extrait de Parfum, composed by perfumer Antoine Lie, Mxxx is a lavish re-interpretation of Eris Parfums' wonderful celebration of genderfluidity, Mx. In this episode, Jenna notes the prominence of a cacao note in this fragrance. Sourced from Trinidad & Tobago, this cacao extract is of exceptional quality, and sings in the heart of Mxxx. We also explore the use of the animal-derived materials of ambergris and hyraceum, which add an animalic depth to Mxxx's rich notes of sandalwood, cacao and cedar. Jenna outlines that these unique materials are collected from the environment without impacting the animals. Today, Liam and Jenna introduce the Scottish Odyssey collection from Edinburgh's Jorum Studio. This new range journeys us through the regions and microclimates of Scotland, and has already had a great impact at LKNU. Jenna's pick is Gorseland, which combines the herbaceous notes of coastal scrubland with an tangy, sharpness and the warm, tropical coconut-like scent of gorse. Liam, a fan of classical perfumery, particularly enjoys Rose Highland. Twisting through rocky mineral and salt, this wild rose is windswept and rugged. Fans of peated Scotch whisky will be drawn to Firewater, a fragrance inspired by the great whirlpool of Corryvreckan. This fragrance evokes beachside bonfires and lingers with an oily, smokiness. The immediately appealing Healing Berry takes a melange of sweet, juicy and tart berries, pulverising them into a base of malty cereal notes with a mortar and pestle. We encourage you to explore this exceptional range from Jorum Studio, which you can find at LKNU's Emporium boutique and online store. Hosted by Liam Sardea and Jenna Harburg. Old and new defines Azalai, Stora Skuggan's latest fragrance, which Liam describes in this episode. Built around a desert motif, Azalai shows both a stylistic shift and a darker side for the brand. The name of this fragrance is a reference to the Tree of Ténéré, once the loneliest tree in the world, yet representing an essential waypoint for travellers. With the sparkling and intensely honied gloss of saffron and blood orange. Azalai itself is a caravan route through the Ténéré region of the Saharan desert, and as dusk arrives and the sun retreats into the distant horizon, the ambery warmth of woodfire and incense take hold. Keeping the image of the caravanserai alive, Azalai imagines the wrinkled skins of sweet dried fruits and cooling mint tea laced with sugar, stirred with the syrupy intensity of gum acacia. In this episode, Liam shares his thoughts on Parfum d'Empire's latest release, entitled Vetiver Bourbon. Vetiver can go in many different directions, and here, perfumer Marc-Antoine Corticchiato has studied the essence of the root, returning it to its rawness and almost its brutality. With this fragrance, vetiver is paired with angelica and iris - notes that accentuate the rootiness and earthiness of this material. Lovers of classical Vetivers such as Lalique Encre Noire and Guerlain Vetiver will enjoy the new facets shown with this stunning new release from Parfum d'Empire. Hosted by Liam Sardea. Essential Parfums is a new brand to LKNU, and here, Jenna talks about The Musc, composed by Calice Becker (who was the nose behind greats such as Dior's J'Adore). In The Musc, Calice and Essential Parfums have chosen to use Western Australian sandalwood from plantations managed by Indigenous communities. In addition to a beautiful blend of beeswax, ginger, and sandalwood, a soft foundation is formed by the use of musks. This warm and captivating fragrance can now be found at our Emporium boutique and online store. Hosted by Jenna Harburg. Produced by LKNU Parfumerie. ©2022 LKNU Parfumerie. INTRODUCING ESSENTIAL PARFUMS A great example of a brand that gives their perfumers free reign on their creations, Essential Parfums has recently joined the range at LKNU. Great modern perfumers such as Quintin Bisch and Calice Becker are employed, allowing the brand's fragrances to wonderfully express the ephemeral essence of the main notes. Beginning with Nice Bergamot, Liam and Jenna admire this honest, simplistic dedication to perhaps what is the most important of citrus notes in perfumery. Orange x Santal gently grounds this sweet citrus fruit with natural Western Australian sandalwood from plantations managed by Indigenous communities. A shift in style, Bois Imperial employs woody notes via the Givaudan captive material Akigalawood alongside the tender, anisic sweetness of thai basil. One of Imaginary Authors' latest releases, Fox in the Flowerbed fits perfectly in the brand's narrative omnibus. A gauzy, watercolour example of perfumery, Fox in the Flowerbed is defined by tulip, jasmine and honeysuckle. Rather like one of Aesop's Fable, with this fragrance, we are taken to the Austrian alps where a fox chases a butterfly through meadows and flowerbeds. An uplifting and energetic floral fragrance with a magical lustrous quality, Fox in the Flowerbed is certain to boost one's mood. Hosted by Liam Sardea. Dreams of bottling the sea- the pursuit of marine notes in perfumery. Today, Liam and Jenna take you through a conversation on four exemplary aquatic scents. Unda Maris 8 from Extrait de Musique takes the most abstract approach, capturing the ocean as it is in music and then translated once again to scent. Notes of artemisia and Eucalyptus keep the light, airy musical quality close to mind. Belle de Jour, escapes the standard of the white floral with an undeniably sexy, sun baked quality to orange blossom, and clever use of genuine seaweed extract. Villa Lympia, like her namesake resort, brings a luxurious, relaxed, airiness to the genre. Salty, light, and somehow typical of when vacationing on the riviera. Finally, Long Board from MiN New York is the wild freedom offered to those who dare to brave the waves. An almost photorealistic sun cream accord is supported by a raw coconut and piney cardamom. These four fragrances, and a wide selection of further marine and aquatic fragrances, can be found at our Emporium boutique and online store. Hosted by Liam Sardea and Jenna Harburg. Just in time to welcome spring, Fougère Emeraude from Les Indémodables adds a twist to the fougère genre by augmenting the traditional heart note of lavender with a whopping dose of Indian tuberose absolute. In addition to the classic freshness of the fougère, a further springtime aspect is given by French mimosa absolute, bringing a sheen and powderiness to the fragrance. As always with Les Indémodables, the highest quality of ingredients are utilised, making Fougère Emeraude a stunning and luxurious alternative to a very traditional fragrance style. With The Botanist, Liam conjures up an image of a laboratory replete with rare and precious herbs, spices, extracts and tinctures. A wondrous vetiver note that has been stretched, expanded, and transformed, The Botanist explores the many expressions of this traditionally woody note, moved into earthy, fruity, green, and even slightly saline dimensions. With an initial acerbic flash, trailed by tender florals, and a saturated dose of frankincense, The Botanist represents the vetiver note at its intriguing best. MiN New York's Shaman is a scented incantation - a tenacious spell of fire and ice as the central note of violet leaf oscillates between cool green-tinted aquatic freshness and a fiery heat highly reminiscent of gasoline. This is furnished with the blunt and spicy impact of nutmeg, the soft sweetness of mandarin, and a gentle heart of rose. Enrobed and brought together with the distinctive note of animalic and sweet honey, Shaman becomes a viscous fluid expressing a singular and potent idea. In the lead up to Father's Day, for this episode Liam has picked Hilde Soliani's tribute to a fond memory of her father with Bell'Antonio. Here, Hilde has leaned on her gourmand expertise to create a vivid espresso accord, combining it with the distinctive scent of tobacco. Together, this evokes Hilde's recollection of seeing a show at the theatre with her father Antonio, who took pleasure in smoking a cigarette at the nearby caffe along with his demitasse of hot espresso. Bell'Antonio is a clear example of the strong ties between scent and memory, as well as a dedication to one of the most important figures in Hilde's life - her father. In this episode, Liam explores two very special fragrances from Nicolai. The Sublime collection is both a sublimation of the natural materials harnessed within, as well as of two existing fragrances in the Nicolai range – Patchouli Intense and Incense Oud. Patchouli Sublime explores patchouli's relationship with geranium, together bringing a cool crispness that's reminiscent of a fougère. Fans of Nicolai's most popular fragrance Patchouli Intense will be stunned by the additional intensity here, and will appreciate the balance of the original being retained. Oud Sublime harnesses animalic and spicy Cambodian oud, bolstered by incense, nagarmotha, ambrette, patchouli, and the bitter greenness of artemisia. Together, these materials, and Patricia de Nicolai's classic French know-how, elevates Oud Sublime to a higher plane. Gorgeous is what comes to our minds when we smell this new extrait de parfum from Electimuss, which extends the range of their current offerings. Supremely textural, Pomona Vitalis begins with a juicy combination of sweet fruits intensified by bergamot, including apple, lychee, and strawberry. This is in celebration of the Roman figure Pomona, goddess of fruit trees, gardens, and orchids. Things shift gear as Pomona develops into a sophisticated fougere marked with contrasting cool and hot notes of lavender, geranium, sandalwood, and patchouli, to only then be spliced with an impactful rose note which seeps into the many folds of this fragrance. At LKNU, we're utterly addicted, and are convinced Electimuss is onto (yet another) hit. This delightful composition, and the total Electimuss range can be found at our LKNU Emporium boutique in Melbourne, or online. Blending Mysore sandalwood with highly aromatic basmati rice is at once surprising yet a totally expected manoeuvre from Affinescence, who, in this collection, dares to champion base notes and base notes alone. A fragrance that is overloaded with brilliant materials, a scent like this develops spectacularly, and becomes an experiment that allows us to observe the work move on the skin, without obscuring the many qualities of the base notes in the absence of adornment. Creaminess is the order of the day here, and within this orbit there are milky, powdery, and nutty facets to be detected. A quiet florality is provided by iris and the tenderness of basmati rice. In this episode, Liam details what makes Santal Basmati a most impressive work of perfumery – with a utterly sophisticated and spellbinding sillage. Perfumista was made with perfume lovers in mind, appealing to a supremely classical structure of top-middle-base with some well-loved ingredients and charming accords utilised in the creation of this scent. At its centre, the theme of this fragrance is that of a marvellous woody rose, as the spicy, honied, and bursting essence of Bulgarian rose combines with the dynamic and bright notes of plum and pear up top, with deep patchouli, jasmine, and dry cedar wood in the base. In this episode, Liam unpacks the gorgeous texture and impactful charge of this highly individualistic woody rose Chypre. Quando Rapita in Estasi by perfumer Filippo Sorcinelli is an operatic incense perfume inspired by a moment descending into madness, journeying the wearer through this sublime state until it gradually takes over to the point of ecstasy. In this video, Liam details the cool touch of incense as its umbrous effect fuses with the powdery and sweet skin of peach, the numbing fire of clove, and the gloriously severe green floral note of lily of the valley. A dramatic and persistent fragrance, this is categorically an incense and amber fragrance redolent of the classic Opium (1977) by YSL, in powerful parfum concentration. Hilde Soliani, the Queen of Gourmands, demonstrates her incredible versatility with Peccatrice and 24.09.11, two fragrances that exist beyond the gourmand frame. Our Education Manager's personal favourites, Peccatrice is a sinful yet clever composition defined by cedarwood. Raspy yet yieldingly moreish, cedar supports a simple and effective arrangement of black pepper for sizzling spice, olive for contrast, and fennel for a refined spicy green touch. Peccatrice is a wood quite forward in its disposition. In contrast, the sacred 24.09.11 is a bubble of protection, a scented guardian angel made up of calamus, myrrh, incense, and amber notes. In dedication to her father, 24.09.11 is an intensely personal fragrance of affecting beauty, and for us, reimagines the classic amber category defined by Shalimar. Considering the two scents together, we have the corporeal and the immaterial, temptation and salvation. The Hilde Soliani range is available at our boutique and online store. With Jacques Fath's Curaçao Bay, we have a drop of warming sunshine to remind us of summer. A sophisticated melange of citrus fruits, the sharpness of lemon, the honey-like sweetness of orange, and clean yet bitter petitgrain come together and present the best of their respective parts, demonstrating brilliance in number. To satisfy its evocative name, with ideas of the tropical and the breezy, a dose of frangipani adds sweet floral freshness carried along a breeze impregnated with salt and seaspray. Boasting natural ambergris and an uncharacteristically high concentration, Curaçao Bay is a citrus of complexity and longevity - a marvel! The gourmand category - broad and diverse - takes the wearer through many different notes and styles. In this episode, Liam and Kati detail three distinct variations of the theme. Maria Candida Gentile's chocolate gourmand Noir Tropical plays with tones of malt, vanilla, almond, and boozy bourbon and rum. Softness is balanced with impact, to create a luscious and deep chocolate fragrance reminiscent of fine dusty cacao. Mistpouffer from the Swedish brand Stora Skuggan is at the very limit of edibleness, marked with notes of ozone, fig leaf, immortelle, pine, which creates many forms of green. Described as pebbles tumbled and coated in confectioner's sugar and malt, Mistpouffer is a boom of smoke, sound, and texture. To conclude, White Madera from Omnia Profumi is calorie-free decadence, where white chocolate, vanilla, anise, and a surprise of coconut calls to mind a sponge cake of airy yet rich texture. Altogether: three different fragrances, and three very different interpretations of the gourmand style united by various degrees and notions of deliciousness. You can find these fragrances - and many more gourmands - in our boutique and our online store. This podcast can be found at https://lknu.com.au/pages/podcasts or your favourite Podcast apps. Introducing our newest member of the LKNU Emporium team, in this video, our fragrance consultant Kati pairs up with Liam to introduce three distinct roses, underscoring its many virtues across differing fragrances. In Rose de Jamal (Les Indémodables), the rose note is suffused with Modernist touches, textured with additions of cedar, lavender, and spices. Cooling mint hovers over the work, to altogether create a rose that is at once overdosed, earthy and green. Next, Bulle de Rose (Les Parfums de Rosine) is a new offering from the historic house, and utilises rose to draw out soapy facets. Playful yet well composed, this is a floral wrapped in the creamy smooth opacity of a lather, reinforced with sandalwood. The magic comes from a dash of tomato leaf, adding warmth and an intoxicating verdant tint that lengthens these features. Finally, Rrose Selavy from Maria Candida Gentile is LKNU's newest Surrealist and Postmodern rose, and is described by Kati as the “sort of rose a rose would wear”. Passionate and infused with a palpable sense of danger, the rose in this fragrance has a sharp disposition, and is built vertically, producing a great sense of severity and impact. It is supremely memorable, and wonderfully shocks in its brazenness. You can find all of these roses - and many more - in our boutique and our online store. In this episode, Kati explains how Le Rivage des Syrtes takes us on an olfactory journey to a fictitious kingdom where we are met by the scent of sweet orange and pineapple, lightly tempered by galbanum. As our boat slides along, ylang ylang, tuberose, and orange blossom become apparent, while a soft plume of incense reminds us of the Middle East. Vanilla underscores this almost-gourmand trip that is deepened by ambergris and musk at the base. The MDCI range is available at LKNU Parfumerie. In the universe of perfumery, the fig note occupies a very special place. Maria Candida Gentile's very special interpretation is Syconium. In this episode, our Education Manager Liam describes Syconium's essence of fig, wrapped in milk and honey. Anchored by sandalwood, Syconium is given a prominent dry woodiness, making for a more serious style of fig fragrance. Forget everything you know about contemporary sandalwood. From Paris-based Jacques Fath, Tempête d'Automne brings us right back to the greats. Green is always on our mind at LKNU. Let Liam share with you his favourite green fragrance, the ruggedly beautiful Corsica Furiosa from Parfum d'Empire. Playing with the idea that nature is wild and furious, the Mediterranean isle of Corsica is expressed here with a central note of mastic resin, where three different extracts are used in the formula. Mint, tomato leaf and oakmoss convey the wild greenness of nature and all of its latent energy. Rogue Perfumery is back in stock at LKNU – the master of retro, Manuel Cross creates perfumes that speak of yesteryear. In this episode, Liam explores this world through Chypres and Fougères, classic categories that have contributed to a history of scent. In Mousse Illuminée, mossy notes are championed which forms a sylvan scene of green. Light and shadow through tall conifers, low creeping mist, and an intensely spicy woodiness makes for a remarkable scent that shimmers and radiates in all directions. Chypre Siam expresses creativity of the highest order, beginning with an ambery-mossy-animalic base and drawing upon a range of Southeast Asian ingredients which blur the line between the olfactory and the culinary. An event on skin, humid jasmine and ylang-ylang is flushed in the zesty freshness of lime leaf, holy basil, and spices. Finally, Bon Monsieur is a pure soap bubble – lavender absolute diffuses amidst notes of bergamot, carnation, geranium, and lily of the valley. A nostalgic Fougère through and through, Bon Monsieur – and indeed the entire Rogue range – pays homage to the defining fragrances. Today, Liam shares his thoughts on two fragrances from Oriza L. Legrand; a historic brand that has recently returned to LKNU. Both of a time and also timeless, Oeillet Louis XV is a regal carnation fragrance, showing the firey aspects of this floral note perfectly. This is certainly one of the best carnation scents in LKNU's range and, just like King Louis XV, fans of the note should seek out this spicy floral. The unctuousness of jasmine sambac is captured in Secret Joly. A recreation of the original white floral from 1920, jasmine is combined with hyacinth, tuberose, gardenia and ylang, over a husky backdrop of civet, musk and tonka. Find the Oriza L. Inspired by the classic men's coat, Le Loden by Jacques Fath is an exemplary meditation on the note of vetiver. Appreciating the diversity and breadth of the many forms of motherhood, in celebration of Mother's Day 2022, Liam explains why a fragrance speaks to the particularity of one's identity. Making three suggestions, Liam showcases the retro yet timeless masterpiece that is Number One Intense - a glorious and bursting white floral bouquet with unmatched presence. Rose Absolument speaks of the ideal rose - powerful, jammy, intense, and deep - a rose that could only be worn by the ideal mother. Finally, Niral embraces the flamboyant and the quirky, with its charming and beguiling treatment of the iris note. Stewed in tea, amber, and liqueur-like notes, Niral speaks to the core notion that taste can never be accounted for, or fit into universal categories. All of these fragrances, and many more, can be found in our Emporium Boutique, or online. We wish all mothers and maternal figures - in all of their uniqueness - an exquisite Mother's Day 2022. Tea lovers rejoice! With the addition of the Sydney-based Chasing Scents range to the LKNU portfolio, we welcome three new exciting tea fragrances - each of discernible and remarkable character. Employing delightful extractions of tea in each and every fragrance, Chasing Scents is the result of unique know-how and passion. Tea Service is a photorealistic cup of jasmine-oolong tea, with a fine astringent backbone redolent of tannins, this gorgeous work carries aromatic vapours of white peach and osmanthus with it. Weeping Rose features etiolated rose petals and rose bud tea hit with the low afternoon light. An autumnal pile of leaves, here the world comes to a gradual halt. Melting textures are brought to life with fig leaf, maple, red apple, and orris. Finally, the dreamy and sedate Slow World expresses smoky and balsamic pu-er tea, which becomes the vehicle for resins, incense, and malt. Saffron imparts a legible, softly burning trace. An atmosphere of scent - a gauzy medley of shadows - warmth emerges from all directions in this fragrance. The glorious Chasing Scents range can be found in our Emporium Boutique, or online. A brand where oud almost always has the first word but never the final say. In this podcast, Liam provides an overview of the Bortnikoff range and style, which privileges an extravagance of natural perfumed extracts, oozing of decadence and presence. In Oud Loukoum, oud melts into the unctuous texture of ylang-ylang and sticky dried fruits to produce an oud that is at once immediately approachable yet intense in style. L'Heure Exquise continues this gourmand style, making marvellous use of neroli's honeyed sweetness then wrapped up in cacao, rich florals, and ambery oud - creating an impressionistic and sweetly scented scene of dusk. Finally, Sayat Nova bursts on the scene, with the full tilt of apricot at the fore. Lactic, solar, fuzzy, and funky - a combination of vanilla, rum, and a supporting base of oud make for a fiery dance on the skin. Extrait de Musique is a homage to the organ by Filippo Sorcinelli, who transforms the instrument's striking tones in the medium of scent. More than just an exercise of synaesthesia – when a sensation in one sense blurs into another – this is a concise range of impeccable definition and effective execution. Whether it's the thundering growl of Violon Basse 16, or the warm human voice of Voix Humaine 8, the range is diverse and balanced. In this podcast, Liam primes us for the spellbinding UNUM range. Sorcinelli connects the art of perfume with a diverse range of mediums, from photography, film, myth, and even the esotericisms of mysticism. UNUM scents are always an eventful encounter of great magnitude, and here Liam gives body to this idea, discussing three scents in the range. For International Fragrance Day, Liam's #SOTD is L'Eau de Merzhin by independent perfumer Anatole Lebreton. A scent which inflects the green facets of the iris note with the unmistakable bitter signature of galbanum, the work is a landscape of springtime replete with blooming grasses, flowers, and herbs. We like to imagine a siesta on a bed of hay. In this scent, powdery nuances are engulfed with a striking combination of herbaceous angelica, vanillic hawthorn, oakmoss, and flouve - a complex sweet grass with tobacco aspects. A fragrance that invites us to dream and to wonder - a fitting choice for a momentous day! In this informative podcast, our education manager Liam provides us with a flash study of musks as both a note and a category. Thinking through distinct examples of musk, Liam gives character to the fizzy powdery clean of white musks with Musc Intense (Nicolai Parfumeur Createur), animalic and vegetal musks in Zoologist's Musk Deer, and sensual spicy-leathery musks in Night Flower (Eris Parfums). No two musks are ever the same, and when you understand the style that marks your tastes, we believe it becomes much easier to communicate with others what you might be after. All the musks featured in this episode - and many more - can be found at our Emporium boutique and online store. With an enduring fascination for clean as a concept in perfumery, Liam details the polished virtues of Nuée Bleue by Violet Parfums. A cloud of clean, the work gains its immaculate character from orange blossom and iris, which for many of us, carries the association of soapy, freshly scrubbed skin. Aldehydes brings a sense of sparkle, but also appeals to another popular association for laundry musks. With a clever touch of peppery floral carnation and sandalwood for the base, Nuée Bleue is as dependable and universally appropriate as a well-cut white shirt.
