Le parfum est partout : dans notre mémoire, dans la séduction, dans l'identité que l'on projette aux autres. Pourtant, son industrie reste largement méconnue, entourée de fantasmes, de storytelling… et parfois de grandes illusions. Pour en parler, j'ai reçu Francis Kurkdjian : parfumeur, directeur artistique de sa propre maison mais aussi directeur de la création des parfums Dior. Il est l'un des créateurs de parfum les plus influents au monde. À 25 ans, il crée Le Mâle de Jean Paul Gaultier, l'un des plus grands succès de l'histoire de la parfumerie. Un triomphe qu'il raconte avoir… très mal géré. Avec beaucoup de lucidité, il revient sur cette peur de devenir “l'homme d'un seul parfum”, sur la réalité parfois peu glamour de l'industrie, où les matières synthétiques dominent largement malgré les imaginaires de champs de fleurs entretenus par les marques, et sur son choix audacieux : créer sa propre maison alors qu'aucun parfumeur, à l'époque, ne signait véritablement en son nom.
