C'est probablement l'un des noms de parfum les plus célèbres de l'histoire. Pourtant, « Chanel N°5 » ne semble avoir rien de très poétique. Pourquoi un simple chiffre ? La réponse remonte à 1921 et à la rencontre entre Gabrielle « Coco » Chanel et un parfumeur franco-russe, Ernest Beaux.À cette époque, Coco Chanel est déjà une couturière célèbre. Mais elle veut désormais créer son propre parfum. Et surtout, elle ne souhaite pas une fragrance classique reproduisant simplement l'odeur d'une rose, d'un jasmin ou d'une violette. Elle cherche quelque chose de beaucoup plus moderne : un parfum complexe, abstrait, difficile à associer à une seule fleur.Elle confie cette mission à Ernest Beaux, qui lui prépare plusieurs essais. Le parfumeur lui présente différentes compositions numérotées. Parmi elles, Gabrielle Chanel a immédiatement une préférence : l'échantillon numéro 5.Pourquoi ne pas lui donner ensuite un nom plus sophistiqué ? Parce que Chanel décide justement de conserver ce numéro. Selon la maison Chanel, le chiffre 5 possède en outre une signification particulière pour la créatrice : elle avait l'habitude de présenter ses collections le cinquième jour du cinquième mois de l'année et considérait ce nombre comme porte-bonheur.Le parfum est donc lancé en 1921 sous un nom d'une simplicité radicale : N°5.Ce choix tranche fortement avec les habitudes de l'époque. Les parfums portent alors volontiers des noms romantiques, évocateurs ou exotiques. Coco Chanel fait exactement l'inverse : un numéro, une étiquette blanche très sobre et un flacon aux lignes géométriques. Cette simplicité contribue à donner au produit une identité immédiatement reconnaissable.La fragrance elle-même est également novatrice. Ernest Beaux utilise notamment des aldéhydes, des molécules odorantes qui donnent à la composition un caractère plus abstrait et amplifient certaines notes florales. Le parfum s'organise notamment autour de la rose et du jasmin.Le succès transformera progressivement ce simple numéro en symbole mondial du luxe. Marilyn Monroe contribuera encore davantage à sa légende lorsqu'elle expliquera, dans les années 1950, ne porter pour dormir que quelques gouttes de Chanel N°5.Ainsi, le nom du parfum le plus célèbre de Chanel ne vient ni d'une savante stratégie marketing ni d'une formule mystérieuse. In dieser Folge ist die Content Creatorin Ema Louise zu Gast. Ema hat schon als Teenagerin mit YouTube angefangen, hat seitdem eigene Brands gegründet, hat einen eigenen Podcast und lebt heute mit ihrem Freund auf Mallorca. Ema und ich sprechen über ihre Anfänge als Content Creatorin, warum sie anfangs auf der Suche nach einem anderen und in Anführungszeichen „richtigen“ Job war und über ihre etwas schwierigere Zeit in Berlin. Dann sprechen Ema und ich vor allem über den Kontaktabbruch zu ihren Eltern. Sie erzählt mir, woran sie gemerkt hat, dass ihr der Kontakt nicht mehr guttat und warum sie seitdem immer etwas rastlos und suchend war. Wie Ema mit der Zeit bei sich ankommen konnte und was das mit ihrem Freund zu tun hat, hört ihr jetzt. Hierzu auch eine kurze Einordnung: Ema hat leider kurz nach der Aufzeichnung ihren Papa verloren. Erst einmal möchte ich hier auch noch einmal mein herzliches Beileid an Ema aussprechen und einordnen, dass der Tod von Emas Papa hier nicht thematisiert wird, da wir die Folge im Vorhinein aufgezeichnet haben. And I wondered if you'd indulge a second prescription if I may. I loved the notion of a friendship fragrance mentioned in a recent episode. It really struck a chord with me as my best friend is very sadly moving to Canada from the UK early next year and although I'm very happy for her, I'm going to miss her immensely. Unser heutiger Gast gehört zu den prägenden Führungspersönlichkeiten der deutschen Digital- und Handelswelt. Sie hat ihre Karriere im stationären Handel bei Peek & Cloppenburg begonnen und dort früh verstanden, wie wichtig Kundennähe, Sortiment und echtes Handelsverständnis sind. Danach führte ihr Weg in den E-Commerce. Über viele Jahre war sie bei eBay in unterschiedlichen Führungsrollen tätig, unter anderem in General Management, Business Development, Strategie und Category Management. Eine Zeit, in der sie gelernt hat, wie Plattformen funktionieren, wie digitale Märkte skalieren und was es bedeutet, Systeme zu bauen, die Millionen von Menschen erreichen. Später übernahm sie als CEO Verantwortung bei brands4friends und wechselte anschließend in die Payment- und Fintech-Welt. Als CEO von Ratepay führte sie ein Unternehmen durch Restrukturierung, technische Skalierung und Automatisierung und richtete es wieder auf Wachstum aus. Seit März 2025 ist sie Senior Vice President und CEO von parfumdreams und Niche Beauty innerhalb der Douglas Group. Damit verantwortet sie zwei Beauty-Welten, die auf den ersten Blick sehr unterschiedlich sind: parfumdreams als große Online-Parfümerie mit breitem Sortiment und attraktiven Preisen, und Niche Beauty als kuratierte Plattform für Premium- und Luxusmarken. parfumdreams hat seine Wurzeln in der Parfümerie Akzente, die 1995 gegründet wurde. Der Online-Shop startete 2004 und wurde zu einem der relevanten Player im deutschen Beauty-E-Commerce. Seit 2018 gehört das Unternehmen mehrheitlich zur Douglas Group. Heute geht es um weit mehr als den Verkauf von Parfum, Pflege und Make-up. A bright burst of mandarin opens the scent, softened by delicate jasmine and wrapped in the creamy sweetness of coconut milk. The result is a smooth, glowing fragrance that feels effortless and uplifting.'Then we made a beeline for the brand new M&S Studio Fragrance collection - and were both completely blown away! The quality is apparent the second you pick up the bottles: stylishly pared back they feel satisfyingly weighty with good quality lids, and even the labels are slightly recessed - a very luxe touch, all for £22.50 per 100ml eau de perfume. And the SCENTS! Oh my. So many great ones to choose from (shall we do a whole series?) but we chose…Suzy's favourites:M&S Studio Amber Crème‘This Amber Crème eau de parfum is a refined and evocative choice. Le parfum est partout : dans notre mémoire, dans la séduction, dans l'identité que l'on projette aux autres. Pourtant, son industrie reste largement méconnue, entourée de fantasmes, de storytelling… et parfois de grandes illusions. Pour en parler, j'ai reçu Francis Kurkdjian : parfumeur, directeur artistique de sa propre maison mais aussi directeur de la création des parfums Dior. Il est l'un des créateurs de parfum les plus influents au monde. À 25 ans, il crée Le Mâle de Jean Paul Gaultier, l'un des plus grands succès de l'histoire de la parfumerie. Un triomphe qu'il raconte avoir… très mal géré. Avec beaucoup de lucidité, il revient sur cette peur de devenir “l'homme d'un seul parfum”, sur la réalité parfois peu glamour de l'industrie, où les matières synthétiques dominent largement malgré les imaginaires de champs de fleurs entretenus par les marques, et sur son choix audacieux : créer sa propre maison alors qu'aucun parfumeur, à l'époque, ne signait véritablement en son nom.
