What is the interplay between aromatherapy, sensuality, and sexuality? This query started back in 2017, when I was curious why some essential oils are considered “aphrodisiacs” and how some are considered “hormone balancing”—realizing many essential oils influence both aspects. This episode goes there. How can essential oils like Patchouli, Vetiver, and Blue Lotus (Jasmine, Ylang ylang….) support holistic sensuality and sexuality while embracing the sacredness of being whole, undivided beings? We start by reflecting on the yin and yang within us all, the interconnectedness of our bodies and the universe, and the sacredness of creation as a gateway to divine knowing or gnosis. We continue into highlighting the power of scent as a form of deep communication, noting how odorants influence receptor sites in the body and can deeply connect us to ourselves and others. Sharing insights from poetry and philosophy, we weave together themes of respect, receptivity, and the importance of dispelling ego to embrace our sensual selves. Drawing inspiration from works like Rumi, E.E. Cummings, and Stephen Harold Buhner, we frame sensuality and sexuality as sacred and beautiful, celebrating the profound connection between scent, body, and spirit.Throughout the episode, we explore the role of essential oils in supporting sensuality and sexuality, highlighting favorites like Sandalwood, Patchouli, and Peru balsam for their grounding and nurturing qualities. This episode is a celebration of our fundamental core, encouraging us to embrace our bodies, imperfections and all, and to create moments of self-care, such as aromatic baths or massage oils, to connect with our sensual-sexual selves.Tune in for thought-provoking insights, poetry, and practical tips to integrate aromatherapy into your daily life. This episode offers a holistic approach to embracing our divine, sensual selves and connecting with the sacredness of being alive.Poems highlights: (Minute ~28) Rumi, “You that come to birth and bring the mysteries.”(Minute ~32) e.e. cummings, “Lady, I will touch you with my mind.”(Minute ~39) Stephen Harrod Buhner, “Semen is Latin for a dormant, fertilized plant ovum.”

In this episode, Meg and Heather discuss the many properties of the essential oil Vetiver. Reach for Vetiver if you are looking for - an earthy perfume scent; - calming; - an oil to "turn off the hamster wheel in your brain"; - something to stop the chatter in your mind; - an oil to improve focus. The vetiver plant is harvested in Haiti high up in the mountains. Many of the suppliers (farmers) find a need to harvest sooner than needed due to the lack of soil to produce other crops. DoTERRA in its efforts to support farmers, better our earth, and bring you quality sourced oils, has contracted with these farmers to provide a 12 month a year income while allowing the vetiver to mature and come in to its most potent form. Once again, a company with a heart for people and our planet. Vetiver, a perennial grass akin to lemongrass and citronella, is not only valued for its essential oil extracted from its roots but also for its remarkable environmental contributions. The plant's dense root system acts as a natural shield against soil erosion, stabilizing terrain and promoting water retention. While the earthy scent of Vetiver's essential oil reconnects individuals with their core, emphasizing the importance of basic needs like nutritious foods, water, sleep, fresh air, and sunlight, it also serves as a potent remedy for stress relief and emotional balance. The roots of the Vetiver plant, resembling the dendrites of the brain, suggest a profound connection, making Vetiver an ideal choice for those prone to overthinking. This essential oil guides individuals out of the chaos of thoughts and emotions, fostering stillness, presence, and self-awareness. Moreover, Vetiver encourages a deeper connection with nature, emphasizing the physical experience in the present realm. Ultimately, Vetiver serves as a transformative companion, unraveling societal constraints and revealing the authentic self amid the distractions of modern life. For the heart, I created a rice powder and a steamed jasmine rice accord; each given a creamier feel with a light hand of vanilla. The drydown is a soft bed of hinoki, cedarwood, and pine. The entire fragrance for me has the feeling of ascension: of flying ever skyward toward the celestial realm through clouds, pastel colored by the setting twilight sun.”All of the profits from the sale of Biwa will be donated to Robert's husband, Ron. Places and spaces where Persephone and Hecate among other archetypes may guide us. This is an invitation to revel in the marked transition from late summer's end to the bittersweet falling leaves of full-blown Autumn. Which brings us to root season, a time to harvest root medicine such as Ashwagandha, Valerian, Angelica and Cohosh. And get grounded with all of the root essential oils, notably Vetiver. Come along as my guest! I'll take you through seasonal themes, a guided aromatic meditative encounter and a poem I feel touches upon this moon-time's qualities. Although this time of year might bring slight sadness and longing with the increasing darkness and chill in the air, it also invites us to approach life with wonderment and curiosity. "Incense was the original perfume. There was the belief that if you burnt it, the smoke was able to transcend the barrier between the worlds. Things like sandalwood may have remained in the realm of worship but once the kings and the nobles began smearing it on their bodies, it became popular with everybody. Technically, you can have your incense smell of anything just like you can have your perfume smell of anything but the connotations remain and they are very strong" - Divrina Dhingra, author, The Perfume Project talks to Manjula Narayan about the wonderful fragrances of sandalwood and vetiver, rose, jasmine and saffron, how towns like Kannauj and Madurai continue to be important centres of the creation and trade in specific perfumes, the complexities of Kashmiri saffron, the skilled craftsmen at the centre of it all, the impact of climate change and changing land use, and the personal associations that make individuals prefer specific scents

Perfume Legend Roja Dove is in the Perfume Room today! Creator of the first Haute Parfumerie, Founder and Perfumer of the ever-luxurious Roja Parfums, Chairman of the Fragrance Foundation UK, and Culture Ambassador for Great Britain, it seems that all Roja touches turns to gold (in fact, you can find gold flakes in his signature scent ;)). Today he takes us back to his earliest scent memories, recounts multiple pivotal moments in his lifelong fragrance career (a career which he fondly recalls having ‘pestered' his way into), and shares why we must be willing to flirt [with perfumes] until we find our perfect match. We discuss what makes Roja Parfums so special (including why some carry larger price tags than others), AND Roja even leaves us with a life-changing hot take: SPOILER ALERT — it involves lotion. What does Jasmine sound like? What about Frankincense or Vetiver? Get your essential oils, and brew up some Vetiver tea, Jasmine tea and prepare some Frankincense water and sit for a spell to discover the sounds of these aromatics with Yuliana Kireyeva, an accomplished choir conductor, classical vocalist and certified aromatherapist. Yuliana translates scents to music notes, what she calls Olfactory-Auditory Congruence. I cannot fully articulate how moved I have been by these pieces and encourage you to find a quiet place to join us for a listen. When I came across what Yuliana is doing, listening to essential oils and translating them to sound, I was floored and excited. I hope you are too after you listen to her compositions. Essential oils in conjunction with olfactory aromatherapy can be incredibly nuanced and, I feel, dismissed by many people who often speak of "placebo effect." The chemical messages are often dismissed and it's the aromatherapist's role (one role, that is) to highlight the nuance and PERSONALITY of each essential oil. Yuliana takes this expression of each personality to another level through music. Yuliana is a graduate of the State Academy of Music in Belarus where she studied choir conducting and classical vocalism. Her professional career includes choir conducting for 8 years, performing as a leading Soprano for 7 years, including performing classical, spiritual, folk and jazz music around the world. She currently resides and works in the UAE as a vocal and a piano teacher and composer-translator of olfctory sounds. Aromatherapy-wise? Tune it to find out about Yuliana's journey and expansion into the world of Olfactory-Auditory Congruence. Find Yuliana on Instagram as @olfactorysounds and look forward to experiencing further olfactory-auditory congruence! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/essential-aromatica/message

I have been struggling with sleep, and this has helped me. As a Certified Aromatherapist I simply LOVE essential oils for so many reasons. I love using either sandalwood or vetiver as I wind down my day. These oils have tree properties and create synergy with the earth. You will need: *One carrier oil: jojoba, olive oil, coconut oil or simply cocoa butter *Sandalwood essential oil or Vetiver Drop 4-5 drops of your carrier oil in your hands and blend with 2-3 drops of either the sandalwood or Vetiver oil. Then breathe it in AHHH And now treat your feet. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 6.1 million children in the U.S. have ever been diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), a neurodevelopment disorder marked by inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. Although medications are often necessary and the first line of defense for medical providers, nutrition may be an effective treatment as well. In this episode, I sat down with Dr. Uma Naidoo, a Harvard-trained nutritional psychiatrist, professional chef, nutrition specialist, and author of the national best-seller, “This Is Your Brain On Food.” We talked about what research shows about the role of diet in ADHD, and if it can take the place of medication. We also talked about which foods to avoid and which ones to focus on, nutritional deficiencies and anti-inflammatory foods, as well as quick and easy tips to pull together healthy meals and snacks every day. Welcome 3:29 Let's start with your story! 6:36 We've all heard about ADHD, but what exactly is it and what is going on in the brain? 8:36 Can ADHD show up in other ways such as hyper-focus? 9:00 Why does it seem so many kids are being diagnosed with ADHD? 9:56 Do you think most doctors are too quick to prescribe medication? 12:45 Can diet work in place of medication and/or therapy for kids with ADHD? 16:23 How does a parent go about figuring out if their kids have nutritional deficiencies? 18:11 What does research show about gut health and ADHD? 19:35 What are your tips for getting kids to consume fermented foods? 21:33 Can food allergies and food sensitivities make ADHD symptoms worse? 22:02 Are there foods kids with ADHD should void? 22:35 What should parents keep in mind when they're trying to overhaul their kid's diet? 25:34 What are some good supplements for kids with ADHD? 26:38 Should parents eliminate gluten and dairy? 28:30 Can essential oils work? 29:23 How can parents deal with shame or guilt if they can't stick to the diet 100%? 30:25 What are your best tips for getting healthy meals on the table quickly and easily? 32:11 What can parents do if they want to go the route of nutritional psychology? 3:06 What are your favorite recipes from the book, “This Is Your Brain On Food.” LINKS MENTIONED IN THE SHOW Dr. Naidoo talks about this 2021 study which suggests those with ADHD are prone to have low levels of zinc. Dr. Naidoo also talks about this 2021 study out of Stanford which found fermented foods reduce inflammation. Julie mentions she has used this Vetiver essential oil to help her child with focus. Purchase Dr. Naidoo's book, “This Is Your Brain On Food.” Learn more about Dr. Naidoo on her website UmaNaidooMD.com and follow her on Instagram.
