In this episode I draw on the parallels of Gangster Rap and younger Generations trying to copy and imitate these DOOMED lifestyles. As someone who's already made these mistakes I talk about avoiding the same trappings... The Power Universe created by rapper, 50 Cent is the same thing as NWA's , Straight Out of Compton .... Why mess your life up in the first place ? Why spend years trying to fix those mistakes? Don't fall for the TRAP...... Episode 45 I had no idea when I started this podcast I'd have people like ; Musty, J-Mac, Wallzee , Bigs, 8th Dan, Rookah, Dyl Thomas and Elfizo joining me on the show. I had no idea some of the biggest names in Oz hip hop would be reaching out telling me to keep going , telling me that they enjoyed listening . I never thought I'd hit over 1300 streams for just one episode; Rest in Peace to the homie Willy Eps and Fiz for telling that story.. Season one's been a huge learning experience and I'm not just talking about the technical side of shit. I learnt not too over edit and to be myself a bit more. I think you guys will see the difference between episode 1 and episode 45.. Crazy to think; if it wasn't for the lockdown last year I probably would of never of started this Pod.. Joe Pistone was a FBI agent who infiltrated the Bonano Crime Family. His undercover involvement led to over 200 arrests and pretty much sank the mafia. They made the famous movie, Donnie Brasco about this piece of sh!t and to say he's had a pretty amazing life, would be a total under-statement.. Writing books and working with people in Hollywood to make mafia movies more convincing, this turd of a man has loved the notoriety.. Unlike so many people that are impressed by Joe , with me, nothing could be further from that . I look as this Judas of a man as the scum of the earth ! Who pretends to be something they're not? After watching a hour and half of the 3 hour Joe Rogan - Yeezy podcast on YouTube , I had to chuck it on pause and express my opinions on this episode. Not only am I huge fan of the Joe Rogans Podfcasts (one of the biggest reasons i started this channel) but i'm also a huge Yeezy fan. Thing is ; I really struggled to watch this episode. In this episode I talk about my experiences with English Hip Hop. Listening to groups in the 2000's like - Taskforce, Braintax, Phi Life Cypher, Jehst and many more. To what's happening in the UK right now, which is Drill. I've been listening to guys like Abra Cadabra , Dutchavelli, Nines, Morisson, Headie One , just to name a few but there are so many more.. I also talk about ; Terms & Conditions - A UK Drill Story - which I found fascinating (If you haven't seen this dock, do yourself a favour and watch that shit - It's on YouTube and you can check it out for free) - It shows the beauty of the music, helping the youth get out of the PJ's, actually giving them some sort of hope. It also shows; Mothers who have lost their kids to the senseless violence that comes attached to Drill Hip Hop Culture. This post was a little bit all over the shop but if you're interested In aussie hip hop, the early days of English hip hop to Drill music, which is what's happening right now, I think you guys will appreciate this episode. Next week we talk to another Aussie Hip Hop producer. He's a record fiend with one of the best record collections in the country and his journey to starting a record label in 2020. This week on The Drizlax Hip Hop Show I talk to Melbourne based ProducerBeat-maker 8th Dan. We talk about the success of his 45 single featuring Griselda affiliate EL Camino .. I always find the behind the scenes fascinating and I think a lot of you out there will also enjoy Dan's perspective in putting this 45 out. We also talk about the split project 12" that he did with Adelaide producer and record fiend ADMIN.. The 12" is one of the nicest looking releases IMO, from the obi, to the coloured vinyl, to the scratchies and dope tunes and remixes. The 12" actually feels more like an EP because it's so jam packed with substance. I talk to Dan about the 12 , working with Crimeapple and just future plans. There's no denying that his skills are nice and I'm sure no matter what his next project is ; It'll be fire.. In today's episode we talk about Hip Hop Movie Soundtracks. If any one wants to get into 90's hip hop or just hip hop in general a great place to start is soundtracks, compilations and even mixtapes. The reason to you should start with these compilations is because many artists are featured and you can figure out who you're feeling and who you might not like as much. Also the soundtracks usually features songs from your favourite artists that didn't make it to their albums. In the 90's you could find so many hidden gems on soundtracks, compilations and mixtapes. Some of my favourite soundtracks : Friday, Rhyme and Reason, The Show, Who's the Man , Murder was the Case and many more. In this episode I stroll through a list that was put together by Matt Barone from Complex and even though i didn't agree with some of his choices it was cool to go down memory lane and talk about some of his choices. As usual i want to do a part 2 to this .. Soundtracks play such a huge part in hip hop culture. Let's face is - The movie Friday with Ice Cube and Chris Tucker was dope as hell wouldn't be shit without the soundtrack.. Let's Ride.. As I was re-organising my record shelf a few days ago. I just kept pulling out classic after classic. I thought to myself these are hip hop albums that new generations will never hear. Then I thought; maybe it's time to put my cape on and start recommending some of these albums to future generations of hip hop heads. Shit, people still listen to rock and roll from the 60's and 70's , why can't new generations get into hip hop from the 90's? Off-course 90's hip hop is when the genre was in it's prime. There was so much good stuff coming out and I know some people might not agree with the 5 albums that I've recommended but this isn't a list for old school heads; this is about pushing this beautiful culture of ours forward and even if only one kid listens to this and puts him. or her on the right path, my job is done! I think there are too many older heads that are a little too stand-off-ish.. My goal isn't to judge but to educate .. Each one teach one type of shit, hope you guys enjoy this one and there will be a post on my Instagram; @OGtalks pertaining to to this podcast. In this episode we talk about how much Kanye and T-Pain impacted Hip Hop in the late 2000's. Their use of the Pro-tools plug-in, Auto-tune, changed everything! It impacted Hip Hop and RnB like nothing else before to the point where 90% of the top 40 industry sounds the same. There was a saviour and his name was Pop Smoke. This 20 year old was going to bring hip hop back to New York. He was going to do it with a touch of the UK drill scene where even Pop , just kept talking about changing the game. Hip Hop was about to be reborn .. On the 19th of February , Pop Smoke was killed in a robbery that went wrong and when he passed away that morning i honestly feel like a piece of hip hop died with him .. Now Hip Hop is stuck again. Stuck in this horrible cycle where having no talent is no big deal. As long as we have this pitch correction technology , just looking the part and playing the part will do .. We need another Pop Smoke! Hip Hop needs another Hero to take it away from this over-saturated sound, that honestly : is played out ! Let me know what you guys think on Instagram @OGtalks . There will be a post on there pertaining to this Podcast.. peace , D
This episode's about trending and surface level Hip Hop. The stuff that sounds great on the first listen but as the weeks go by, the love for that album or track, start to fade. There's no way being an artist would be easy but there's way too much disposable , surface level and trending hip hop coming out . . From Pop Smoke (who i'm a massive fan of), to 6ix9ine (who i can't stand for breaking the code of the streets - yes that still means something). To Griselda (WestsideGunn, Conway and Benny the Butcher). Too many albums being released , too quickly, quantity over quality and all things in-between .. In this Podcast I talk RnB. I've been in to Rnb for around 25 years . Just a little bit shorter than my Hip Hop infatuation .. I've been absolutely obsessed with good RnB and in the 90's we were spoiled for that shit. RnB over Hip Hop Beats, the mixtapes and collaborations !!!! Damn that shit was tasty! What inspired this podcast was the Kehlani album - It Was Good Until It Wasn't! This album is an absolute modern day masterpiece. Think Erykah Badu but 2020 shit! I can't recommend this album enough, this will be an album that hip hop and RnB heads talk about in many years to come. I hope that this podcast finds you all well.. OK, so this is Part 1 of 2. Part 2 will be the album review when I've thrashed the absolute crap out of it. To be honest, making this podcast was real hard . Even listening to this album, absolutely kills me inside because I know this is the last piece of work we'll ever receive from Pop. Rest In Paradise Bashar Jackson aka POP SMOKE ! In this podcast I talk about Virgil Abloh's botched album cover and my thoughts on the situation. The replacement cover and I touch on the album , Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon. This short episode, was part of a much longer one but didn't gel with the rest of the content so it's become it's own little piece. I've started to notice a trend on youtube with album reviews, which has left me scratching my head. Seems as though some of these reviewers are pumping out review after review without really giving these albums much play. How is this possible? In this episode I talk about the latest instalment from El-p and KIller Mike of Run The Jewelz. Their latest album RTJ4 is barely out and Anthony Fantano is reviewing it, within a week of its release. Saying it's much better than the previous 3 RTJ albums; Dudes off his head ! It's not that i don't agree, the problem is; the 4th instalment is so fresh and has so many layers that it still hasn't completely revealed itself. Are these reviewers superhuman? Are they full of shit? Is it possible to review any album after 1 or 2 listens? Join me on this journey, lets talk about it.. #anthonyfantano #shawncee #rtj4 #eminem #rushedalbumreviews
We can't talk about hip hop culture without talking about fashion .. Sneakers and style have been a part of Hip Hop culture since the very beginning.. (google - Jamel Shabazz or Martha Copper) . Fashion in our culture can be a beautiful thing but there's nothing beautiful about Round 2 or Cool Kicks being looted in L.A.. In this podcast i share my thoughts on the looting, people who stand for nothing who are quick to destroy the next mans hustle and sneaker stores becoming banks, security wise. This is PART 1 of 2. hope you guys enjoy.. much love.. driz
(Part 2) In this episode we talk about tracks 11 through 20. It's a step by step look at Eminems 11th full length studio album - Music To Be Murdered By. I hope you guys are doing well , I really hope you enjoy this podcast. It's taken me almost 3 weeks to record part 1 and 2. It's been a crazy journey with this album. I really do love it.. In my eyes Em's still the G.O.A.T..
The concept for this episode started one morning when I watched 2 YouTube Videos . One was with Jay-Z and Dean Baquet (Executive Editor to the New York Times), the other Video was Tekashi 6ix9ine's, Gooba music Video. The Jay-Z episode had 4.1 million views, Gooba, at that time had around 120 million .. This episode concentrates on those two videos, their numbers and my thoughts on where hip hop is headed. Hope you guys enjoy..
