NEWS FLASH!! The Budget Friendly Fertility Bundle is on sale now and until 1st February. Check it out here: www.fertilemindset.com/bundle This podcast is the last episode in this current series of conversations with some really lovely guests. I've enjoyed recording these for you, and I've gained and learned a lot myself from each and every one. Today's is particularly special as Nicola is someone I have known for a very long time. We first met over 30 years ago when we were in the same class at school. Then we were at college together on the same course. And then years later we got back in touch through the magic of social media, Nicola was retraining in nutrition and coaching, and transitioning away from a corporate role and into the work, she is truly meant to be doing. Nicola has an affinity with the experience of grief, drawing on her own losses and bringing in all her skills to support this inevitable part of the human experience. Grief is something that is rarely talked about in relation to fertility and infertility, and I believe we need to talk about it, acknowledge it and bring it out into the open. So that's what Nicola and I did in this episode and I hope it brings you a deeper understanding of how you may be feeling, and some comfort too. Here's what is included in this episode: The myriad of emotions related to grief, and how giving yourself permission to feel them is a gift. The many layers of grief related to infertility and pregnancy loss. How we may experience suspended grief, and initiations of the soul through acceptance. The important role of community when we are grieving. In this episode, I'm sharing a conversation with Jen Edmonds. I first got to know Jen when she was on her own fertility journey. She was a Fertile Mindset client and used EFT / Tapping with me to support her through her emotional challenges. Jen said that EFT blew her mind with how effective it was, which was also her experience of discovering Fertility Yoga. Since then, and since Jen has happily had her two children, she now supports others on a fertility journey with her unique approach to Fertility Yoga. Jen says that Fertility Yoga is so much more than the work you do on the mat. I hope you enjoy listening to this conversation with Jen, and I'm delighted to share with you that Jen is a contributor to my soon to be released Budget Friendly Fertility Bundle, which is a fabulous bundle of resources that will be on sale next week. Jen's online fertility yoga program is included, along with lots of other support for every aspect of your fertility. It's not on sale yet, but I'll be sharing on Facebook and Instagram when it is, and I'll add the link below when it's on sale too. We're receiving new contributions every day from some of the most knowledgeable and empathic people in the fertility world, so make sure you check out the Budget Friendly Fertility Bundle next week. Here's what is included in this episode: Jen's own fertility story and how it led to EFT and fertility yoga. How yoga gave her back her power. What an ‘everyday' fertility yoga practice can look like and her secret to sticking to it. How to use yoga and EFT (tapping) together successfully! This episode with Kristin, who is a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and neural retraining specialist, was fascinating and we did a deep dive into the impact of stress on health and wellness, including fertility health. Kristin focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of illness and infertility and supports the body's natural ability to achieve healing and balance when provided the right conditions. With advanced training in functional lab testing and interpretation, nutritional counselling, and mind-body therapies, Kristin provides a whole person approach to health and fertility which you are going to hear about in this episode. I love that at the end Kristin includes lots of practical ideas on how to rewire the brain and body's stress response, and one I was very happy to hear her recommend is EFT. You can learn more about this amazing technique by listening to episode 20 here. On that episode, you'll hear me say that the doors to my membership the Fertile Mindset Sanctuary are closing, but the good news is that it is now always open to new members. So if after listening and learning about how helpful EFT can be for emotional support and healing you'd like to join us, then you can do that right now at www.fertilemindset.com/sanctuary Now let's get on to today's episode to hear Kristin talk about the Stress and Fertility Link. Here's what is included in this episode: How Kristin's passion for children's health led her to focus on preconception care and fertility. That stress is an underrated area of health and wellness, and what happens to the nervous system which can impact on fertility. The power of psychoneuroimmunology and the “cell danger response” and what we can learn from it. The strategies that Kristin uses and recommends to her clients to improve vagal tone, rewire the brain to reduce stress, and more!
On this first podcast of 2023 I'm speaking with EFT Master and co-founder of the EFT Centre in London, Emma Roberts. Almost 20 years ago when I was a newly qualified EFT practitioner, Emma's own specialism in fertility support was a key part of my education and exploration into this topic. In fact, attending a training session on Fertility EFT led by Emma was a pivotal moment for me in specialising in fertility for the last two decades. It was wonderful to talk more with Emma about what a powerful technique EFT is and the many ways it can make a positive difference when facing fertility issues or any other challenging moments in life. Here's what is included in this episode: The phobia that Emma and her partner Sue witnessed being removed by tapping led them both to EFT and eventually becoming EFT Masters. How and why tapping works to calm the nervous system, and why it integrates so well with western medicine. Why Emma is also passionate about using EFT for cancer and other serious diseases, and the parallels she sees to fertility. How using visualisation alongside tapping can help uncover and resolve negative beliefs. This episode features the lovely Emily Ginn who I got to know a couple of years ago when the Clubhouse live chat app was launched. In the fertility support chat rooms, I heard Emily speaking with a depth of true understanding about the mindset side of fertility. Then as Emily and I were on such a similar wavelength, we shared many chat rooms on Clubhouse. More recently I was a guest on her brilliant podcast IVF This. And now here we are, continuing our chat on my podcast now about all things mindset! I really loved where this conversation took us, exploring the difference between happiness and mindset, and why it's more important to work on mindset. Here's what is included in this episode: How Emily discovered her thoughts were making the experience of infertility even more difficult. The effect of the ‘giant spotlight' that fertility issues shine on us in how we think. Why the way our minds are wired is not suited to the nuances of a fertility journey. What is important to remember when you have thoughts about failing or being a failure.
On the podcast today, I'm talking with Kate Codrington about her new book Second Spring and her passion for supporting women before, during and after menopause. You may wonder what place menopause has on a fertility podcast. But with more women trying for babies when they are peri or post-menopausal, often with donor treatment, I believe it's important to have these conversations. Kate has always been a passionate supporter and advocate for women, and her new book, Second Spring, has a really refreshing focus on self-care through menopause. I was so pleased that Kate was up for this conversation, which I believe really needs to be happening for everyone who is trying for a baby at this time in their lives. Kate will also be joining us in the Fertile Mindset Sanctuary for a live chat with our members. If you're not a member yet, then we'd love you to join us for this chat with Kate and also to plug into lots of amazing support for the emotional aspects of fertility. You can read all about Sanctuary membership and join us today at www.fertilemindset.com/sanctuary Here's what is included in this episode: An introduction to the seasonal view of the menstrual cycle and how this can support us. The seasons that apply to the menopausal part of life. Hear about Kate's “hug of a book” Second Spring, which includes tons of self care to prepare for and then live through menopause and beyond. What women who are becoming parents during this time most need by way of support and self care. I've spoken with Maria before on her podcast and we had such a great conversation that it planted the seeds in my imagination for this podcast to be created. Now on our 74th episode, I'm welcoming Dr Maria Rothenburger who is a fertility counsellor, coach, best-selling author and intuitive. In this episode, you'll hear about her own path to parenthood and the journey this took her on both in her own life and in the way she supports others in her work. I really loved the perspective Maria brought to the more spiritual side of fertility, from her science-based background and training, and I hope you love listening in too. Maria will also be joining us in my private membership group, the Fertile Mindset Sanctuary, to continue this interesting conversation. If you're already a member, do look out for your invite to the live chat with Maria. And if you're not yet a member of the Sanctuary, do come over and join us. At her natural health clinic, The Pagoda Tree in Melbourne, Australia she has helped over 20,000 women rescue their hormones and reclaim their best life. I've had the pleasure of interviewing Nat several times before, when she shared her extensive knowledge about natural fertility, hormones and women's health, but this time I got to do a deep dive with Nat into the mindset aspects of fertility. It was fascinating to hear Nat's insights into the importance of mindset and how this has evolved the support she gives in her clinic. Nat will also be joining us in the Fertile Mindset Sanctuary for a live chat next week, so if you're a member do look out for your invite. In another mini podcast this week I talk about the next step after recognising and acknowledging that emotional support is needed on a fertility journey, which is asking for that support. It's my birthday today, and as I turn 45 it feels like a good time to talk about age and how it can impact thoughts, feelings, and beliefs around fertility. Age is a big thing when you're trying for a baby, isn't it? You may have always had in mind the ‘ideal age' to have a baby. If you're now trying for a baby at a later time, you can feel the pressure of time. Adding in the statistics that are often quoted by fertility clinics and the media around age, and we are surrounded by so much negativity. This podcast explores the impact of our thoughts and beliefs around age and fertility, and gives you some simple steps to turn this around to an empowered and motivated mindset. Here's what is included in this episode: The journey we go on with age and its meaning related to our fertility. Exploring and noticing what your current age means to you. Tips on using EFT to release negative thoughts, feelings, and beliefs around age (and how to quickly learn EFT if you are new to it!) The amazing potential that is possible when we learn to accept age for what it is and make it a tool for empowerment! Secondary infertility is one of the less talked about fertility issues, but definitely needs acknowledgment, conversations around it, and support too. Secondary infertility is when you find it difficult to get pregnant or stay pregnant when you try for a second or subsequent baby. For some, this is a continuation of the fertility issues they had when they first tried for a baby, and may mean going through the same steps and the same treatment as they did the first time. It can also strike for the first time when you're trying for a subsequent baby after an easy, natural conception before. And this can be equally puzzling as you think back to the first experience of trying for a baby that was so easy and straightforward, and wonder why it's not happening this time. Here's what is included in this episode: Why it can be so difficult to talk about secondary infertility. Some steps to take to start acknowledging how you feel and bring in support. What is needed by everyone on a fertility journey, regardless of whether they have a child yet or not. My own experience and understanding of my secondary infertility. At the heart of all the mindset and emotional support I offer at Fertile Mindset is an amazingly effective technique called EFT. It's brilliant at soothing stress and releasing any and all negative emotions, thoughts and beliefs. There's just one problem though; it looks a bit weird!! EFT involves using your own fingertips to tap on points on the face, head, hands and upper body to release stress and rebalance our emotional state. Welcome to the first episode of the Fertile Mindset Podcast in 2022. Although we're almost a week into the new year now, I'd like to wish you a Happy New Year and also acknowledge how you may be feeling. When you're on a fertility journey the new year can be a time for a renewed focus and energy, maybe making new plans or taking new steps, and it can also be an overwhelming time when you're not sure what to focus on. The temptation is there to use the fresh start of a new year to take lots of action, but this doesn't always feel good and may not be a good approach for you and your fertility. Here's what is included in this episode: Sharing the Tapping Tip sent to my Fertile Mindset Sanctuary members, titled: New Year, New Plan? Or Not… 3 steps to help you feel calm and mentally strong at the start of this year. Rachel Bolton from Plan Yourself Pregnant was my first guest on the Fertile Mindset Podcast back in episode 3 which was released on our launch day on 1st January 2021. Rachel recently invited me into her lovely Fertility Heroes group on Facebook a couple of weeks ago, and we had a conversation about all things mindset and why it's a vital part of a fertility journey. It was a really lovely chat about both of our approaches to mindset work in relation to fertility. I think you'd like to listen to it too, so I was thrilled when Rachel sent me the recording to share with you, my wonderful podcast listeners! We talk about so much here, and there's such a synergy in the way that we support people on a fertility journey. I hope you enjoy listening and find some useful support for you within our conversation. Here's what is included in this episode: What do we mean by “mindset” and why is this important on a fertility journey? The most common mindset issue that is most often the reason people seek support with me. Our thoughts on “taking a break” from trying for a baby when it gets too stressful. The importance of the meaning we give to what happens on our fertility journey. The "what if?" questions and thoughts that can keep us up at night, and tap into our greatest fear and worries about the future. “What if I don't get pregnant this year?”, “What if I never have a baby?”. In this episode we talk about these questions, and how acknowledging and addressing them can be the biggest gift to yourself and your fertility journey. Here's what is included in this episode: How the “what if?” questions can impact on us and our emotional wellbeing. My own experience of working through my questions and fears, and how this lead me to my babies. How you can address your own questions and use EFT tapping on the emotions that come up. While I was having a tidy up of my audio files, I came across this talk from an event I ran a few years ago called Your Empowered Path to Parenthood. In this talk, I share how it's important to feel empowered on your fertility journey, and the 3 steps you can take to go from feeling out of control and disempowered - which is a common place to get to, especially when your trying to conceive has been medicalised - and get back to feeling strong and empowered, and having ownership of your fertility once more. I hope you enjoy listening and putting the 3 steps into action. Here's what is included in this episode: How and why we become disempowered on a fertility journey and what the impact can be. Taking back ownership of your fertility support team, and the surprising additions you can make to your team that are not people! Mastering your emotional response to triggers, the questions you can ask yourself to get clear, and the technique that will make it easy to connect with your most natural and supportive mindset. Owning the decisions that you make and freeing yourself of outside influences that can be confusing so you can calmly make good decisions that are right for you. In this second episode about my own path to parenthood I share what happened when we decided to try for another baby, and how this ultimately led to us adopting a baby boy and completing our family. If adoption is on your radar in any way, you may also find episode 42 useful to listen to, “Why don't you just adopt?”. And you can find the first part of my own story on episode 45, My Fertility Story. Here's what is included in this episode: The surprises we faced as we tried for baby #2. The challenges of coming to a joint decision when changing from TTC to adoption, and how we managed it. My experience of the whole adoption process from the first moment we considered it to when we brought our baby boy home. After touching on our adoption experience in episode 42 “Why don't you just adopt?” I received lots of messages asking me to share more about our adoption story. Before I do this, I thought I should start where it all began, when we first decided to try for a baby. So, this week's podcast is My Fertility Story and next week's will be My Adoption Story. My stories may have similarities to yours or be completely different, and no two experiences are ever the same. But I hope you find support, inspiration and hope within these two episodes, and more understanding about why Fertile Mindset exists and how my experiences help me support you with empathy and understanding. Here's what is included in this episode: Why my fertility story began at age 10, and most likely before I was born. How EFT helped me make the biggest and best decision of my life. It was an absolute delight to speak with the lovely Alice Rose. You may know Alice from Instagram where she has an account, started after having IVF herself, to support and inspire the fertility community. She's also led some brilliant social media campaigns to advise and educate others on how they can best support people facing fertility issues. Over time Alice has developed her support offerings and has also recently qualified as a transformational coach to be able to offer even more support. I was thrilled when Alice agreed to join me on the podcast and we had a wonderful conversation about the mindset piece and emotional side of the fertility experience. I hope you enjoy listening! Here's what is included in this episode: Alice shares how her fertility story began and how it quickly became overwhelming. The one book that Alice read that changed everything for her (and no, it's not a fertility book!). The support team she created and how this made a difference to her fertility journey. It can feel impossible to stay strong during a long and challenging path to parenthood. You may think of yourself as a strong person, but fertility issues can truly test our limits. As each month passes and you're still not pregnant, you may ask yourself “How much more of this can I take?”. When people contact me for one-to-one support they tell me that they feel like they want to give up, but there's also a contrasting need to keep going on their fertility journey. Does that sound familiar to you? This is when a fertility journey can turn into a difficult uphill struggle, which takes every ounce of your strength and resilience. If you feel you're running on empty and you're not sure how to keep going, then the tips I'm going to share in this podcast on how to find strength are for you. Here's what is included in this episode: Where we can borrow strength from when our reserves are running low. Why it's so important to give yourself some slack. What “extreme de-stressing'' is and how you can easily practice it. How connecting to faith, hope and trust can also connect you to your strength. As an adoptive mother myself, the topic of this podcast episode is close to my heart. Have you ever been asked, “why don't you just adopt?” This is one of those unhelpful pieces of advice given by people who don't have much, or perhaps any, understanding of what it's like to have fertility issues. It seems that once they find out that's what you're dealing with, they feel compelled to say something as ridiculous as “why don't you just adopt?”. In this episode, I share my own thoughts on adoption which I hope you find helpful, whether you are currently considering adoption or maybe just want to have it in the background as an option for now. Here's what is included in this episode: How it feels to be told you should “just adopt” and what is actually behind making that decision. The unique challenges involved in the process of adopting and being an adoptive family, and the gifts it brings too. The practicalities of adoption and the steps you'll need to take towards adopting a child. On the podcast today I'm sharing a talk I gave a few years back at an event called Fertility at 40+. However what I share here could apply to anyone facing fertility issues, whatever their age. When we think of the emotional side of fertility, most of us will think first of the stress related to fertility challenges. But there are many ways our emotions, thoughts and beliefs can impact our fertility journey, and in this episode, I share three key areas which I believe most people will benefit from addressing. Here's what is included in this episode: How recognising and letting go of certain beliefs you have around your fertility could have a positive impact on how your fertility journey plays out. The importance of ease and clarity when exploring your fertility options and possible paths to parenthood. Using extreme stress management as an excellent approach to self-care and emotional wellbeing. In this very special episode I invited Julia Midwinter and Karen Deulofeu to join me and share their fertility stories. Both Karen and Julia had fertility treatment to bring their babies to them, during which I had the honour of supporting them both with EFT and mindset work. When we think of taking care of our mindset and emotional wellbeing on a fertility journey, we often think of reducing stress and releasing negative emotions. This emotion is JOY! Here's what is included in this episode: What joy is and the part it plays when trying to conceive. There's a worry that isn't often talked about but is present for many people I speak to who are on a long fertility journey. It's that nagging feeling or question: ‘Will I be a good parent?'. The extra time that it takes us to conceive our babies and finally become parents gives time and space for this worry to flourish and take hold. Of course it's natural to want to be a good parent, but this episode talks about why and how this question can create obstacles on your path to parenthood, and how to feel confident that you WILL be a good parent! Here's what is included in this episode: Why this question comes up when we're trying for a baby, and how it's more likely to be present on a longer fertility journey. How this worry can become a real emotional block to conceiving. The ways our own experiences of being parented (the bad AND the good!) can make us question our own ability. When you've been trying for a baby for a while and you go to see a doctor for tests and investigations to find out why, the hope is that a reason will be found and a solution given. But this isn't the outcome for up to 30% of people, who are told that there is no apparent reason for their fertility struggles. They are given the non-diagnosis of “unexplained infertility”.
