Humans First: Adobe's Rule for Building AI Security Tools with John Gillis

Imagine how much investigation time your SOC could get back if the busywork just disappeared. Ron sits down with John Gillis, Staff Security AI Engineer at Adobe, who built an in-house AI investigation platform from scratch. John's system runs on more than 30 specialized agents that reason through cases instead of following a script. In one run, that meant over 140 detections investigated in under four hours at an 80 to 85% quality rating. Ron and John dig into the hard lesson that made John rip out his own tooling and rebuild it around function calling, why "humans first" drives every decision his team makes, and whether AI SOC is actually different from SOAR or just the same promise with way better marketing. Underneath all of it is the one thing John says decides whether any of this actually works: context. Give the AI too little and it's guessing, give it too much and it drowns just like a human would. Listen to find out what it actually takes to build an AI SOC that reasons instead of just automates. When a realtor entered the Toronto home of Barry and Honey Sherman on December 15, 2017, she expected the couple to be out of town and the house to be empty. The agent showed a young couple around the massive home, room by room, and when they reached the bottom floor, where the pool was located, they found the bodies of the Shermans, leather belts cinched around their necks and secured to a metal railing. To the Toronto Police Homicide Squad, the deaths of Barry and Honey were suspicious, but they were hesitant to label the deaths a homicide and thought it was possible they were dealing with a case of murder-suicide. There was no sign of forced entry, nothing appeared to be missing, and other than the belts around their necks, only Honey had suffered obvious injuries.  It took multiple autopsies and significant advocacy from the family, but eventually the Sherman's deaths were labeled a homicide. But the question remained, who would have wanted to kill the older couple, and if not for money, why? Shane Gillis Breaks World Records At The Link And Changing the Urban Cultural Sway

Dawn Stensland kicks off Monday's show celebrating a historic hometown triumph as comedian Shane Gillis breaks two world records at Lincoln Financial Field for the largest audience and most tickets sold for a stand-up performance. Joined by Dan Borowski, we break down the massive crowd dynamic, the surprise appearance by Dave Chappelle, and the star-studded Philly athlete turnout featuring Jason Kelsey. Dawn and the crew analyze Gillis's unique cultural appeal to young conservative and moderate males, highlighting how his decision to hire local Philadelphia production crew sets a fantastic example of giving back to his roots. We shift gears to look at the tragic fallout from a shooting in Kensington where two suspects targeted a homeless encampment, killing a defensive three-year-old dog named Buddy. Dawn takes a hard stance against the enablement of open-air drug markets, referencing how local initiatives like the "Kensington Cam" document a slow-motion tragedy that city leaders refuse to resolve. We debate the historical precedents of mental health institutionalization, the legal rulings from the 1980s under the Supreme Court, and why treating these encampments as "compassionate" only fuels an estuary of crime, sexual abuse, and human vulnerability. Finally, Frank Scales and Ian McGinnis from Surge Philly join the studio after taking their cameras directly into democratic strongholds in Brooklyn. We watch as they trail Trump-endorsed New York gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman, who is challenging Kathy Hochul by directly confronting small business owners about soaring electric bills and socialist grocery store takeovers. From engaging in impromptu dance-offs with anti-ICE sidewalk protesters at Foley Square to breaking down a developing incendiary device attack at the lower Manhattan federal building, the team proves that showing up to have tough conversations is the only way to shift the political needle. Plus, general manager Road Warrior calls out the guys, forcing them to commit to this Sunday's Families Behind the Badge "Ben to the Shore" bike ride.

From replaying deadly encounters over and over, hearing a child scream for him to stop shooting his father, and questioning every decision afterward, this conversation exposes the mental toll law enforcement rarely talks about.Robert also opens up about using alcohol to cope, receiving a DUI that ultimately changed his life, and why lazy police work—not just corrupt policing—can destroy innocent lives and public trust.Later, we dive into gang investigations, surviving a Mexican Mafia green light, officer mental health, police accountability, and Robert's work helping draft Idaho legislation aimed at expanding the death penalty for the worst child predators. If you've ever wondered what years of violence, trauma, and impossible decisions do to a police officer, this is one of the most honest conversations we've had.

On today's episode, we discuss the spiritual law of least effort. Faith and love permit us to relinquish concern and embrace ease. Affirm, “My trust in God manifests miracles,” and take note of how trust accomplishes more through ease, than worry and scheming accomplishes with hard work. A direct way of stating this is, “Easy does it: the good you seek is seeking you.” Author and recovering “Hardaholic” Anne Sermons Gillis inspires all of us to relinquish ego driven struggle and embrace the law of least effort.  For more information and/or to contact us go to: https://www.darrellanded.com/ To become a Patreon contributor vist the link: https://www.patreon.com/funniestthing Find Anne Sermons Gillis at http://annegillis.com/ Discover Darrell Fusaro at https://www.darrellfusaro.com/

Alec Gillis stops by to have a heartfelt conversation about his fatherhood journey. He and I have an honest conversation about the influence his dad had on him to make his own choice on how to be a dad. He shares the life lessons he learned from his four daughters. After that we blend family and his career by talking about working with his daughter, Camille. We go into his fantastic career in the film industry and how his craft has evolved over the years. Lastly, we finish the interview with the Fatherhood Quick Five.  About Alec Gillis Alec Gillis grew up in Orange County, California within sight of the Disneyland fireworks show. As a kid he roamed the mean streets of Main Street Disneyland, sometimes summering on Tom Sawyer's Island. It was here he gained a lifelong appreciation of animatronics, but it was in the local movie theaters that he fell in love with genre films. At age 20 Gillis began working for Roger Corman on a film called Battle Beyond The Stars. This was along with James Cameron and Gale Anne Hurd. It wasn't long before Alec dropped out of UCLA Film School in favor of the education Corman offered. Gillis was recommended by James Cameron to Stan Winston, where Gillis worked on effects for classic films such as Aliens and Predator. In 1988 he co-founded Amalgamated Dynamics, Inc. (ADI) with Tom Woodruff, Jr. Tremors was the company's first feature, and the film's giant subterranean worms gained notoriety for Gillis. As of 2022, Gillis is now a solo Creature FX Designer, founding his new company, Studio Gillis. His mission is to continue the tradition of creating high quality practical characters and to promote the art of Practical FX. To that end, his production company, Pro Machina, produces modest budget genre films as well as creating miniature effects for films such as Alien: Romulus. "Listen first, talk last." "Integrity costs something, you've got to be willing to pay it." "If I'm going to fail, I'm going to go down fighting." In this episode of the Building HVAC Science Podcast, Bill and Eric sit down with Don Gillis, a longtime industry pro with a career spanning roles as an installer and service tech, service manager, outside sales, corporate training, and now building technical training within a smaller nonprofit environment. Don shares the real story behind the resume: high-volume service management, the stress and health toll of living in "two phones to your ears" mode, and the hard decision to finally step away, even when loyalty and integrity made it feel impossible. A big theme is the power of soft skills, especially listening. Don talks about how learning to listen changed everything: calmer customers, stronger trust, better long-term relationships, and even better outcomes inside a distributor sales role where he turned around a struggling territory by showing up as himself. He digs into what "genuine" actually looks like in the field, why people can smell a script or hidden agenda, and how trust can become so strong that customers insist on "their" technician. The second major theme is growth through discomfort. Don repeatedly stepped into roles where he felt over his head, then compensated by obsessively preparing: reading, practicing, recording himself, and learning from people with deeper experience. The episode closes with a simple message that ties it all together: integrity and passion cost something, but they are also the multipliers that make careers durable and meaningful.   Don's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dongilliscom/ Don's company: https://hardinet.org/   This episode was recorded in February 2026 .

Millions live with chronic pain, fatigue, and brain fog—yet are told their tests are “normal.” In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Sayan speaks with Dr. Bruce Gillis about what changes when fibromyalgia is treated as a measurable, immune-linked condition. This conversation is for anyone living with fibromyalgia symptoms, long COVID–like fatigue, or persistent pain who feels dismissed or unheard. Dr. Gillis explains the science behind immune cell dysfunction, why symptoms can be body-wide, and how objective testing may support better care and self-advocacy—without relying on guesswork. About the Guest: Dr. Bruce Gillis is a physician and researcher, and the founder of Epic Genetics. He discusses the FM1 diagnostic blood test for fibromyalgia and his research connecting fibromyalgia symptoms to immune system abnormalities. Key Takeaways: Fibromyalgia may involve measurable immune dysfunction, not “all in the head” symptoms Chronic pain, brain fog, sleep issues, and GI distress can share a common underlying pathway Objective testing can help patients advocate for themselves and clarify next steps Viral triggers and epigenetic changes may play a role in symptom onset for some people Patients who feel stuck may benefit from reviewing peer-reviewed research, not internet noise How to Connect With the Guest: FM1 test info: https://fm1test.com/ IMBIX info: https://www.imbxx.com   Want to be a guest on Healthy Mind, Healthy Life?
