    Fitness Friday Minisode One The Carnivore Athlete Frequency and Duration of Workouts

    This is our very first minisode installment of Fitness Friday for the Over 40 Carnivore Athlete! Yes, it is a narrowed down topic for sure. We hope all three of you enjoy the show! The question came in concerning Frequency and Duration of Workouts and what's optimal? This is a big question with a lot of nuances. So let's go chew the fat! Here's a simple Tabata Workout for anywhere with zero equipment! Make sure you warmup with some dynamic warmup and stretching...NO STATIC STRETCHING! We like Spotify's Tabata Songs Push-UpsJumping LungesBurpeesFlutter Kicks What are we doing for a workout today? AM Workout: Sprint Intervals Warm up with dynamic stretching 15-20 leg swings each leg15-20 lateral leg swings each legbanded lateral walks 10 steps left, 10 steps right, repeat 2x's banded leg walk forward 10 steps 2x's High knee run 50m, walk backButt kicker run 50m, walk backKaraoke run 50m crossing right foot, then repeat with left foot100m run at moderate pace 4x's focusing on form Sprints: 100m distance 10-15 Sprints at an all out pace for your level of fitness. You should push really hard here. (If you are new to sprints begin with 5 and build on this each week by adding one each time) Example: 23 sec sprint, 90 sec rest (use the walk back to the start line as the rest period) Repeat Make sure you cool down and stretch.     First let me apologize to Sue for introducing her as a Power Lifter during the recording of this episode. If you're not a weightlifter this may not mean anything to you. But, if you're a competitive Olympic Weightlifter crushing records you will likely want the hosts to get your title correct! Sue Spencer is a 65 year old competitive Olympic Weightlifter. After losing almost 100 pounds utilizing a Ketogenic Diet and realizing the strength she had, she began experimenting with Olympic Weightlifting! This became her passion. In 2017 she competed at the World Masters Games in New Zealand and brought home a Gold Medal for her age and weight category. She has since competed in the 2019 Pan American Masters Weightlifting Competition held in Florida in the W65-69 age class where she broke the existing records for her age and weight class. Sue is also founder of Lift You Up Coaching where she helps women discover that they are not too old and it is not too late to shift their emotional and physical health.     We hear this one all the time..."Well, you won't know if you're healthy unless you have had bloodwork done!" Is bloodwork the ONLY way to know if your current diet is working for you? Meh...we are going to say a big NO to that one. We think bloodwork has it's place for sure. We get our bloodwork done yearly. But perhaps some of the tests you want or think you may need aren't covered by your insurance. Or maybe you don't have health insurance and you just need to feel a bit of reassurance that you're on the right track. We are chatting about some of the indicators we use to monitor our health and wellbeing daily and monthly. It's not hard. Your body does a fantastic job of telling you what bloodwork often cannot.     David Hippensteel Three Time Masters CrossFit Games Champion on Finding the Fountain of Youth: Episode 53

    This is a special episode! We reached out to Dave Hippensteel and he was so gracious and agreed to spend a little time chatting with us about his journey. David Hippensteel is a 6 -time CrossFit Games masters athlete and the champion of the 2016, 2017 and 2018 Masters 60+ Division. Now before you think to yourself... "Don't they make it easier for the 60+ athletes? I mean they probably don't do anything too difficult, right?" You would be so WRONG! These ladies and gentlemen are doing things like handstand walks, rope climbs, muscle ups and lifting weight over their heads that most young athletes have a difficult time with. Catch a little glimpse here. A former triathlete and decathlete, he started CrossFit in 2012, winning the 2013 Open in the 55-59 Division just one year later and making his first Games appearance with a fifth-place finish in 2013. He placed 5th and 8th in his division at the Games for the next two years before earning his title in the 60+ Division in 2016 and then defending that title in 2017 and 2018!
