Have you ever tried different ways to get rid of belly fat? Have you ever tried different ways to suppress your appetite? Today, Jay welcomes women's health expert, bestselling author, and podcast host Dr. Mindy Pelz to discuss how women can optimize their health, particularly through fasting, hormones, and metabolic health. Dr. Pelz explains the biological differences between men and women and emphasizes the importance of understanding the female body's rhythms and cycles for maintaining health and hormonal balance. Dr. Pelz begins by discussing common fasting mistakes, highlighting how doing the same fast daily can slow down metabolism. She introduces the concept of "feast-famine cycling," stressing the need for variety in fasting durations and windows, particularly for women. According to her, fasting must be adapted to the individual's lifestyle and, for women, their menstrual cycle. She also addresses Jay's personal approach to fasting and offers tailored advice for him, including when to eat before and after workouts. The conversation then turns to the topic of belly fat and how stress and toxins contribute to weight gain, particularly around the belly area. Dr. Pelz explains that excess cortisol, which is heightened by stress, leads to belly fat, and she provides practical tips to manage cortisol levels, including movement, time in nature, and spending time with positive people. In this interview, you'll learn: How to Start Fasting Gradually How to Manage Stress with Movement How to Reduce Belly Fat Naturally How to Customize Your Eating Schedule How to Stabilize Blood Sugar with Timing How to Stay Full Longer with Healthy Fats How to Lose Weight with Fasting Cycles How to Align Fasting with Your Menstrual Cycle The message is clear: everyone has the ability to transform their well-being by taking small, intentional steps toward a healthier lifestyle. With the right mindset and commitment, a vibrant and balanced life is within reach for all. Professor Tim Noakes' presentation at the BizNews Conference in March detailed the failures of medical science and the imitation scientists who fervently serve at the behest of "The Science". Noakes' grasp of the complexities of the ongoing yet unseen pandemics of diabetes and obesity exemplified a perfect marriage between incontrovertible comprehension and the kind of simplicity only critical thought and accuracy could inform. Noakes also shared his unfiltered and uniquely qualified views on the parallels between the false COVID narrative and mainstream media's rejection and suppression of evidence refuting previously untouchable dictums. The combination of higher-order thinking questions posed by delegates and Noakes' discerning and informative responses prompted a profoundly valuable discussion. Learn more about your ad choices. It's been a while. During the holiday season life took a severe turn and I (Melody) lost one of the most important people in my life. We appreciate your patience as we took a very long hiatus to allow me to get my self together, finish writing a book, grieve, and just have some time uncoupled from a few extra activities...like this podcast. Sometimes you have to let things go and just regroup. That's exactly what we have done. Thank you so much for being here. Our first time back in the podcaster seat may be a little bumpy. We had several computer challenges while recording this. But that's life right! We hope to rekindle our relationship with you my friend. As always, we are candidly sharing our journey with you. Our mistakes, our failures, our victories, our challenges, and our successes. Eat Fat and Prosper! Steve and Melody
Eat Fat To Lose Fat Like you I also thought these two words cannot sit in the same sentence. There isn't such thing as a healthy fat. Here is a surprise for you all. It defiantly was for me! Eat fat to lose fat. You read it right!
Unless it is medically necessary, cutting out an entire macronutrient can be dangerous to your health. Our cells need them all to function. Diet culture tends to push us towards fear of one kind of macronutrient or another. With promises of looking like a model, we blindly follow what is being sold. What Are Macronutrients? When we talk about macros, we are referring to macronutrients. Macronutrients are nutrients our body needs in large amounts (hence the prefix "macro"). We also have other nutrients our body needs. And then there are some that we only need in very small amounts, which are called micronutrients ("micro" meaning small). The three main macronutrients are carbohydrates, fat and protein. Some say that water is also a macronutrient since we need it in very large amounts as well. Why do we need macronutrients? Macronutrients are needed in order for our cells to function. Carbs, fat and protein yield energy. Meaning they have calories that they provide to our body. When it comes to energy, the first macronutrient our cells turn to is carbs. Carbs are stored for energy short term, so our body wants to use them first. After the energy of carbs is used, our body turns to fat for it's energy. Fat can be stored long term, so any excess calories from carbs are stored as fat. The last macronutrient that our body turns to for energy is protein. Once the calories from carbs and fat are used, the body turns to protein. In general, different parts of our body function best using different sources of energy, so eating a diet with all types of macronutrients helps our body perform best. Again, unless you are guided by a medical professional to do something different. Diet Culture and Macronutrients The issue with diet culture is that many people that share diet advice are not licensed professionals. Instead of sharing sound information backed by science, they sell products to make money. Much of the time, these diets cut out an entire macronutrient category all together promising weight loss, muscle toning, etc. The diet world is loaded with fat free, carb free, high protein, high fat, etc diets. It's dizzying just thinking about it all. Eating a Balanced Diet The problem with following these diets, is you stop listening to what your body is telling you and instead listen to an outside source. This tells your body that it isn't important so eventually you stop hearing it's signals. This is when people get into trouble. If you don't hear your bodies signals then you can't give it what it wants and needs to function at it's best. While I don't subscribe to one particular diet (read all about me to see how we eat plants but don't put extreme boundaries on our food), I have had times when I overdo it with food that isn't the best nutritionally or drink too much alcohol. When this happens, I find that I need to reset myself so that I can get connected to my body again. My Refresh and Reset Guide is my favorite way to do this. This guide isn't a diet or a meal plan. It's simply a guide with ideas on how to almost clear yourself out so you can hear your body again. Because I believe that overall health is taking care of both your body and mind, I even have some self care ideas in it too! When I am able to connect with my body again, I know that it craves carbs, fat and protein to be at it's best. I feel the moments that it needs the comforting carbs, those that crave the protein and when I need some good fat sources. Carbs are not the devil, and neither is fat. You can eat both of those things in healthy amounts. While there are definitely times when I crave one or the other, it all balances out. Just remember that listening to your body is so important, and sometimes we need to take the time to clear out the gunk (diet culture, overly processed foods to often, over-drinking for too long, etc) so we can hear it.

When you Eat Fat, you get Skinny For the last 50 years we've been misled as a society about our nutrition. Ask yourself one simple question, why is our country so obese? and why hasn't heart dieses, strokes, and diabetes decreased over the last 50 years especially if everyone is eating the America standard low fat, high carb diet like we've been advised to do. In this episode we'll expose that When you Eat Fat you get Skinny. The truth is when you eat a high fat diet, your metabolism speeds up and you burn fat, lose weight, or don't gain weight, whereas, a high carb diet slows down your metabolism, causes you to be tired, hungry, blood sugar spikes and in most cases increase weight or worse. In addition, we'll discuss why high carb and no fat nutrition a.k.a food pyramid is wrong. It's hard to balance diet & exercise with so much misinformation out there. Each week we bring you the best tips, tricks, and success stories to help you along your health & fitness journey. That is the most important work of our time—work that must begin now.” In the Note we take a quick look at the dysfunction of the food system and how to fix it while talking about the #1 thing YOU can do TODAY to address it. We also chat about the fact that your food label may be lying to you, the ENORMOUS amount of money the junk food industry spends on junk science (think: $12 BILLION) and the social justice issues of food.

Eat less, move more. That's the typical theme behind most diets and weight loss programs. Count our calories, limit them, burn more at the gym and we'll lose weight, right? In this podcast I go over WHY fats are so important to our health and why they can help us shed fat. Cheers to bacon and avocados :)
Fuel yourself once with a morning cherry bomb smoothie and you’ll want one every day. My version is inspired by Dr. Mark Hyman of the Cleveland Clinic, from his book, Eat Fat, Get Thin. In a blender I combine 2 cups of almond milk, a cup of frozen pitted sweet cherries, and a dash of ground cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. Whirl it up with a little vanilla and a tablespoon of coconut butter. 490 calories and a delicious way to jump-start your day. All over the world, people are getting sicker by the year, while food manufacturers, government bodies, and the mainstream medical profession keep telling us to eat more low-fat-high-carb foods and plenty of unsaturated golden oils. They warn us to stay away from all the “dangerous” saturated fats and oils. So we go on buying convenience foods riddled with carbs and sugars, believing that we are doing the right thing to protect from heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and mounting degenerative diseases that plague the Western World. Well, my friend, such advice from the powers-that-be is not just untrue—it is positively dangerous. To stay healthy, protect yourself from obesity, degenerative conditions, and early aging, it's important that you avoid starchy carbs, hidden sugars, and all highly processed unsaturated oils. We have been indoctrinated with an irrational fear of fat because of inaccurate research carried out way back in the 1960s when absurd assumptions became turned into quasi-religious non-sense dogma. Since then, instead of protecting us from heart disease, obesity, and other degenerative conditions, what we've been told has made us highly susceptible to all these diseases. It's time to get savvy about the fats—to learn which fats are life-destroying and which are health-enhancing and to change the way you eat. Here's the truth: Polyunsaturated fats and oils turn rancid when heated. They turn into a health-destroying source of free radicals that do your body great harm. They attack cells and damage DNA. Recent, reliable scientific studies show a definite connection between consumption of these polyunsaturated oils and the development of cancer, as well as heart disease and many other illnesses. Here's the gen: avoid these oils at all cost: Safflower, Corn, Sunflower, Soybean and Cottonseed. They are badly processed, and are often full of dangerous chemicals. As far as canola oil is concerned—commonly used in the manufacture of convenience foods—it turns rancid quickly and is associated with the development of fibrotic heart lesions. The oils and fats you want to eat to look after your health and to stay lean are these: butter from grass-fed animals, and tropical oils such as coconut oil. Coconut oil is great for cooking. Extra-virgin olive oil is ideal for salad dressings. These are quality fats which, eaten on their own, or together with protein but without an abundance of starchy carbohydrates and sugar alleviate hunger and act as a great source of energy throughout the day. Eating too little of these good fats can lead to an experience of sitting down to a meal and, no matter how much you eat, still craving more food at the end of it. These natural fats let you know when your body is satisfied. They also help balance your hormones while significantly enhancing how you look and feel. Low-fat foods fill our supermarket shelves, attracting ignorant consumers trying to be good and eat what they've been told to eat. Manufactured convenience foods have become a roaring financial success story for food manufacturers. So people eat low-fat foods, believing that these are good for them, without realizing that manufacturers, in preparing low-fat menus, have replaced fat with sugar in their wares. We have been told the false notion that all saturated fats are dangerous. Back to the good oils: Olive oil is a monounsaturated fat and one of the safest vegetable oils you can use. It is well suited to dressings and can be heated, but only to moderate temperatures. Make sure that the Extra Virgin Olive Oil you buy is cloudy (not filtered) and a golden-yellow color. Coconut oil is your safest, healthiest choice for cooking since it remains stable, even at high temperatures. It also boasts antiviral and antibacterial properties. The other good, and often forgotten, saturated fat is butter but only from cows who have been grazed on green grass for at least part of their life.

He is the publisher and editor of the Healthy Ways Newsletter and serves as the president of the Coconut Research Center, a non-profit organization whose purpose is to educate the public and medical community about the health and nutritional aspects of coconut and related foods. Dr. Fife is considered one of the world's leading experts on dietary fats and oils. He is a popular speaker and travels throughout the world lecturing at health fairs, conferences, hospitals, and spas. He has appeared on hundreds of radio and television programs worldwide.

This article looks into whether "metabolism-boosting" supplements, fat loss pills, weight loss capsules and calorie-burning dietary aids are actually effective, and studied blood pressure, oxygen consumption, heart rate, and metabolic response to popular nutritional supplement ingredients. Mentioned in this review was the fat loss nutritional supplement "ThermoFactor". -Suddenly there's a bunch of research on L-Theanine, and forward-thinking companies are adding it to their energy drinks as a way to stave off depression, produce "happy hormones" in the brain, and develop laser focused energy. Listener Q&A: I answer the following questions in the May 21, 2009 free audio episode: From Listener Chris: "I recently was diagnosed with a stress reaction (essentially mild stress fracture) in the lateral knee. I was told that I can still swim, but that I should stop biking by my doctor and give it 8 weeks to heal. 8 weeks to me feels like a lifetime. I tried aqua jogging today as I have had several friends do that as their legs have healed from injury. I found it to be mildly painful on my knee as I pulled my leg forward. When I am running in the water...as my left leg pushes down and back and my right leg pulls up and forward, I found that I had pain in the outside of my right knee. Specifically, when my quads are tight, pulling my shin and foot forward in the water. I wonder whether I should be strengthening my quads and my hip flexors. Similar to the pain I feel when biking and pulling up on the crank with my right leg. This could be due to poor form in the pool, but I thought you might have some advice regarding how I can reduce this pain. My doctor has said to avoid activities that cause my knee pain (i.e. biking and running) and, therefore, I had thought that aqua jogging would be perfect, but was disappointed to feel the pain in the knee." From Listener Scott: "I read in a fitness blog that it is difficult for men to maintain less than 9% body fat if they are eating at their maintenance caloric level. I'm wondering what you have discovered while working with various people tying to get into shape or maintaining the shape they are in. The blog also stated men need to weigh a certain amount prior to starting a fat loss regime. For example, a 5' 8" male needs to weigh 160lbs, 5' 9: 165lbs, 5' 10" 170lbs. What is your opinion of this?" Do you have a question? Remember, you can now ask your questions via *audio* to me via the free Skype software by simply "Skyping" me at username "pacificfit". The "Perfect Health Diet" book claims to have the four steps to renewed health, youthful vitality and long life. But what is the Perfect Health Diet? In this interview, I talk to author Paul Jaminet, and ask him the following questions about the relatively high fat and unique diet contained in the "Perfect Health Diet" book. In your book, you list several reasons you believe a 20-65-15 carb-fat-protein ratio to be ideal…what are those reasons? Isn't glucose the body's primary fuel? What about people who are exercising like an Ironman athlete? Can they really eat that much fat, and have you seen this done? Why do athletes think that eating more protein helps them to add muscle? In your book, you list what you consider to be the four most dangerous foods. What are they, and why are they dangerous? In your book, you say that you eat "conventional supermarket meats". Does that mean you don't eat organic, grass fed meat, and if not, why? In your book, you list vegetables as a fat source. Can you explain how that works? You say that coconut oil leads to a naturally slim waist. How? Why do you recommend people supplement with high dose iodine? Why do you encourage long ketogenic fasts? ...And much more! ----------------------------------------------------- Special Announcements: -New! Mario asks: I like to listen to music and podcasts, is there a set of headphones you would recommend for use both indoors in the gym and outdoors. I especially hate when they snag and rip out of ears, what do you use? In my response to Mario, I recommend Yurbuds. Alan asks: I eat low carb (not much processed foods/sugars) but my father is having kidney issues (doctor can not explain it but kidney function is down to like 50%) and is being told he can not eat much in the way of protien (like 30 grams/day) or potassium. he is also being told to eat everything i have learned is bad and will lead to weight gain and insulin issues such as white bread. he is also on blood pressure medications, etc. this is certainly beyond me and the doctors/nutritionists are advising and do not seem concerned about what seems to be an extremely unhealthy diet. do you have any thoughts on what he could do or where to look for better advice? Sam asks: I just read this article. What do you make of it. Are Tour de France cyclists exceptions to the rules, or how does this assessment compare to yours? These cyclists are surely putting their bodies through considerably more stress than any AGer. On the other hand, their nutrition and rest/work cycles may be more controlled than an AGer. Did the time period have anything to do with it (Gatorade was not invented yet!)? http://www.wired.com/playbook/2011/06/myth-too-much-exercise/ Craig asks: Jeff Galloway's philosophy of Run-Walk-Run has helped me in runs. Could this apply to Triathlon (at least the bike and run legs)? In my response to Craig, I recommend he watch the Bobby Mcghee video interview series at EndurancePlanet.com. Andree asks: Beer gut. Is there really such a thing? Anonymous asks: My whole life I have had lumps, or nodes of tissue under my nipples. I am a 32 year old male and have never had any issues with this and am in great health, however, what are these and is there a way to make them go away? In my response, I refer to Get-Fit Guy's man-boobs episode. Chuck asks: I've heard that taking coconut oil can "increase your metabolism up to 48%" over 14 hours (not sure exactly on the time). Is this true? Also, what I'm more interested in, is that I've heard it can increase energy? Is this true, and if so, how much coconut oil should I take to accomplish this? Would it be a good idea to incorporate some before a workout? Tony asks: Having been newly diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and having experimented with a gluten free regime positively, I'm now struggling with blood sugar highs and lows, I'm concerned that the relatively high gi foods I'm now eating such as rice and potatoes are causing these issues. Any tips on minimizing these probs would be gratefully received. -------------------------------------------- Remember, if you have any trouble listening, downloading, or transferring to your mp3 player just e-mail ben@bengreenfieldfitness.com And don't forget to leave the podcast a ranking in iTunes - it only takes 2 minutes of your time and helps grow our healthy community!
