.  I got to emcee a 3 day financial summit and one of the keynote speakers was Aaron Ralston – you know, the guy who got stuck under a rock in Canyonlands national park and had to cut his arm off. They made the move about him called 127 hours. He was really nice, and his speech was great. After he got off stage, I kicked off with "you know I was feeling kinda bad for Aaron for having to lay under a rock for 5 days, until he said that thing about losing 8 pounds a day. Then I got kinda jealous.  It got a huge laugh.   This week I'm talking tips on being a great Master of Ceremonies, and today's tip is Tie It all Together.  Make sure you tie all the speakers and events together. Constantly thanking the last speaker is a dismissal, not a wrap-up.  Make sure you do great transitions between speakers by mentioning something you learned, repeating a website, giving a personal fact about the speaker, or taking a silly survey.  You should tie the event together, not run speakers through on a conveyor belt.   If you want to see me in action as the Master of Ceremonies for corporate events, go to my website www.ComedyEmcee.com   That's it for today. Take care and enjoy your journey.

At 11pm on April 25th, 2003 Aaron Ralston parked his truck at the Horseshoe Canyon Trailhead in Utah, climbed into his sleeping bag and drifted serenely to sleep. The next day would change his life profoundly and shockingly for all time. He woke the next morning, oblivious to the magnitude of this day, wolfed down a high energy breakfast, and mounted his bike. 15 miles later, he locked it to an isolated tree in the wilderness, and strode purposefully to his destiny with terror - Bluejohn Canyon. It was 2:45 before he began his descent into the chasm, and within a half hour disaster struck. I say ‘struck’, but ‘rolled’ would be better. Aron was negotiating a 10-foot drop between two ledges when an 800-pound boulder shifted above him, and rolled onto his right hand, crushing it against the sandstone wall.

The new Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) movie, 127 Hours, starring James Franco opens this weekend.  The film is based on the true story of Aaron Ralston, the mountain climber who had to cut off his own forearm to save himself when trapped in a while hiking. Though Fox Searchlight, the studio behind the movie, has big awards hopes for the movie, audiences at film festival from Telluride to Toronto to Mill Valley and beyond have been fainting in screenings because of the intensity of the footage.
