His first residency came at the age of 17 for deep house night ‘No Shanti' in York followed by a residency at ‘Howdoyoudo?' along with many guest slots around the city. During his time in Nottingham he started his own event ‘Sherbert' at the infamous ‘Moog' pub before founding ‘Subterranea' in 2013 - ten years later Phil remains resident DJ and co-promoter. In 2022 Phil joined the team at The Imaginarium and opened Plant & Deck, Leeds' only house plant and record shop. The shop specialises in house plants of all varieties and left-field leaning electronic music from ambient and electronica through house, techno, electro and breaks. Green fingers aside this allows him the opportunity to tip the city's vinyl diggers by drawing upon his extensive knowledge of, and passion for, electronic music. In over 20 years of DJing at, and throwing, parties he has warmed up and closed for countless DJs including Radioactive Man, Conforce & Versalife, Surgeon, Jamie Anderson, Trevino, Neville Watson and Alex Smoke to name just a few. Playing exclusively on vinyl, Phil is an accomplished DJ in his own right with shelves and shelves of records fit for any dancefloor. For the modulations mix series he has dug out an hour of spaced out electro wobblers, the majority of which are available at Plant & Deck. Stefano has played at festivals in Europe alongside Alex Smoke, Pan Pot, Audio Werner, Cassy, Portable aka Bodycode, Margaret Dygas, Mark Henning, Jacek Sienkiewicz & Lakuti among others. More recently, since relocating to Sydney he has supported Steve Bicknell and Marco Shuttle. In this mix he steps away from the dance floor, serving up a mix of old and newer organic soundscapes, flourishes of ambient and almost tribal rhythms digging into the past for something suited for a day of rest or after hours when the ears tire from the electronics and desire something a little different.

Chris Fortier delivered one of the more interesting Balance compilations when he dropped compilation number 7 in the series. It was 3 CDs deep and filled with the sort of moody, tech-filled music which on first listen was bewildering, yet strangely alluring. It featured many artists at the early stage of their careers (Mathew Jonson and Alex Smoke come to mind), and showed that there was more to the progressive house sound which was so prevalent back then: It even received a strong 4.5/5 on Resident Advisor. Indeed, the Fade Recordings owner's keen ear for a great underground track, and his eagerness to do some decent crate digging were on full display. Then again, Chris Fortier is a true professional who have traveled the world playing at the best venues and events. He has tasted success in the club and and in the studio: Fortier’s remix of Delerium's "Silence", was the first and original remix and sold in excess of one million copies worldwide, and he has one full length album to his name, "As Long As The Moment Exists”. In our interview we discuss his involvement and experience of Krake Festival. We also discuss his early involvement with Soma, his now defunct imprint Hum+Haw, his latest Wraetlic production alias and how his approach to music has developed over the past decade.

INTERVIEW > www.inverted-audio.com/perc KRAKE 2013 > www.inverted-audio.com/krake-festival-2013 Krake is a week long festival of experimental electronic music in Berlin that takes place between 5th - 10th August 2013 in a variety of venues that include Passionskirche chapel, Berghain Kantine and Suicide Circus. The festival is curated by Killekill Records and 2013 marks the fourth edition of the festival. In 2012 Krake Festival showcased an impecable lineup of pioneering electronic musicians that included Murcof, Perc, Lucy, Dadub, Ulrich Schnauss, Pole, Alex Smoke, Tim Exile, Ceephax Acid Crew and Lakker. 2013 highlights include Cristian Vogel, Monolake, Untold, Dopplereffekt and Nathan Fake perform at Krake. Inverted Audio have partnered with Krake to present a series of live sets that were recorded last year at Krake Festival. Perc aka Alistair Wells, DJ, producer and label owner of Perc Trax begins the series with an extremely rare live ambient set. He performed this at Berghain Kantine after Dadub's performance. The recording contains new tracks and remixes of older tracks by Perc. "Some tracks were purely elements in my laptop and others were a mixture of laptop audio and live improvised electronics." In the interview we discuss Perc's involvement and experience of Krake Festival and how his own record label Perc Trax is progressing.
