For decades, opinions have been divided regarding capital punishment. No matter which side of the issue you're on, one question tends to haunt even the most opinionated: What if someone slated for execution is factually innocent? Can we ever be certain the right person is being put to death? In November 2000, 27-year-old James Mosqueda and his fiancee, 22-year-old Amy Kitchen, were gunned down in their upscale north Dallas home. When a suspect was arrested, it seemed like an open-and-shut case. But was it really as straightforward as it seemed on the surface? Or is it possible the couple's killer continues to evade justice? India opened a new consulate in downtown Seattle, attended by state and city leaders and the Indian Ambassador to the U.S. The consulate, located in the Federal Reserve Building, serves tech companies, investors, and professionals in the Pacific Northwest and several other states. Seattle has a large Asian Indian population, and over 40 percent of foreign-born IT workers in the area are from India. The consulate has provided services to over 23,000 applicants and hosted cultural events such as the India Day Parade. The opening coincides with increased scrutiny of U.S. immigration policies, with many Indian tech workers relying on H-1B visas. Amazon and Microsoft are major employers of H-1B holders in the region. The consulate is expected to facilitate visa and immigration services and strengthen business ties between Seattle and India.Learn more on this news by visiting us at: https://greyjournal.net/news/ Hosted on Acast. While we have had some amazing guests on this podcast over the past three years, today I am proud to introduce our most distinguished guest of all, Her Excellency, the Consul General of Ireland in Toronto, Ms. Janice McGann. In fact, Janice became the inaugural Consul General of Ireland in Toronto back in 2022. As her appointment in Toronto comes to its end, Janice took time out of her busy schedule to sit down with me and suffer through what she called a truly authentic Irish in Toronto experience by appearing on the podcast. We discuss the challenges of establishing a brand new Consulate in a place with a large Irish diaspora. We also discuss Janice's career before coming to Toronto and what the future will look like for her as she begins a new role with the Department of Foreign Affairs at home in Dublin. The Irish community in Toronto will be forever grateful to Janice and her team for the work they have put in over the past few years to establish the Consulate and we wish her the best.

On March 21, 1998, 23-year-old Amy Bradley boarded a Royal Caribbean cruise with her parents and younger brother. It was supposed to be a fun family vacation. But just three days later, Amy vanished from the ship without a trace. She was last seen in the early morning hours of March 24 on the balcony of their cabin. Thirty minutes later, she was gone. The ship was searched. So was the water. But there was no sign of Amy anywhere. Over the years, multiple sightings have been reported across the Caribbean and beyond, leaving her family to wonder if Amy is still out there somewhere, waiting to be found. 23-year-old Amy Lynn Bradley was last seen by her father around 5:30 a.m. on March 24, 1998, sleeping on the balcony of their cabin aboard the Rhapsody of the Seas. By 6:00 a.m., she was gone. Three witnesses later reported seeing Amy with Alister Douglas, also known as “Yellow,” just before 6:00 a.m., taking an elevator to the ship's disco. He was later seen leaving alone. There were no other sightings of Amy onboard. But over the years, multiple people have reported seeing her in Curaçao, Puerto Rico, Barbados, and even San Francisco. Amy is still missing. If you have any information concerning the disappearance of Amy, please contact your local FBI office, or the nearest American Embassy or Consulate. In this episode of The Louisiana NOW podcast, we are joined by Dr. Carla Cardoza, President of Lydia Patterson Institute and Bishop Delores J. Williamston. In a powerful response to an unfolding immigration crisis affecting the Lydia Patterson Institute (LPI), the Council on Finance and Administration of The Louisiana Conference, in partnership with the United Methodist Foundation of Louisiana, announced a $240,000 gift to support the El Paso-based United Methodist school. The decision was made in an immediate series of meetings following emotional scenes at the 2025 Annual Conference, where LPI President Dr. Carla Cardoza broke down in tears during her address. Dr. Cardoza had just received news that the U.S. Consulate would no longer schedule visa interviews for students. It's a decision that could prevent 30% of LPI's student body from attending school this fall. Please call, write, or email your local, state, and federal officials. Urge them to restore access to student visa interviews and support educational institutions like LPI that stand at the intersection of faith, education, and opportunity. Lives are being shaped at LPI—let your voice be part of the story.

A Marshall man jailed by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is speaking out, saying he's being detained because he protested police killings four years ago. Aditya Harsono tells MPR News his student visa was revoked last month and he was arrested by plainclothes ICE agents. Court documents indicate Harsono's visa was revoked over a misdemeanor conviction for criminal damage to property in 2022. He believes his 2021 protest against the police killing of Daunte Wright is the real reason for his arrest.Republicans in north-central Minnesota are choosing a nominee for a vacant state Senate seat. Eight Republican candidates are running in a primary to replace Justin Eichorn of Grand Rapids. He resigned last month after he was charged with attempting to solicit a minor. Democrats have endorsed Denise Slipy of Breezy Point. She will face off against the winner of the Republican primary in an April 29 special election.Sen. Tina Smith joined St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter to criticize President Donald Trump's administration for delaying funding that had been approved to renovate an apartment building in St. Paul.

There was nothing particularly unusual about the morning of February 16, 1997. Sarah Jackson didn't usually work Sundays at Captain D's seafood restaurant. The 16-year-old was a devoted churchgoer. On this day, however, Sarah had agreed to help her manager Steve Hampton open. When Sarah agreed to work that Sunday, she couldn't have possibly known it would be her last shift ever. A gun toting man disrupted Sarah's shift, shattering many lives in an instant. The violence unleashed on Nashville by The Fast Food Killer didn't stop there. Before long, investigators would discover the assailant's story didn't start there either. By the end of the brutal crime wave, seven people would be dead, and several more potentially linked to the same killer. We are pleased to welcome to our show, Raffaella Valentini, esteemed Consul General of Italy in Los Angeles. Raffaella has years of experience having worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, overseeing projects promoted by Italy in the Balkins, North Africa, and Middle East. She's also worked at the Embassy's economic office in Albania and Cairo before coming to Los Angeles. Raffaella has keen ideas on how she sees her position here, as it covers a large territory from California to Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada, and she wants to make sure to serve the various economic and cultural groups in each region. For example, Los Angeles is so vast, and she sees her job as serving the many Italians and Italian Americans from each area in a variety of capacities including science, technology, film, food, travel, and more. And as a woman in such high office, she also knows how important it is to set an example for other women looking to leave their mark in political office. We will talk with Raffaella about her role with the cultural institute, as well as delve into her early life. Did she always want to be a diplomat? Were her parents in public service? What is perhaps the greatest challenge she sees serving the Los Angeles community? What are her immediate goals here? And for those Americans asking, the Consulate can guide on how to apply for an Italian passport, but it is not necessarily their job. I can tell you Raffaella has already left her mark. She is poised and a sharp learner. Diplomatic and effective. But there's lots of work she wants to get done, and we'll talk to her about that, too. Please join me on my #LittleItalyPodcast, #LittleItalyOfLAPodcast, and #DeborahKobyltLIVE. I'm your host, #DeborahZaraKobylt, a proud Italian-American whose family is from Avellino. Thank you for joining me, and please invite your friends as well.
//The Wire//2300Z February 13, 2025////ROUTINE////BLUF: VEHICLE RAMMING ATTACK STRIKES GERMANY. STABBING ATTACK REPORTED NEAR TURKISH CONSULATE IN LONDON. US NAVY AIRCRAFT CARRIER COLLIDES WITH MERCHANT VESSEL IN EGYPT.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Germany: Early this morning a vehicle ramming attack was conducted in the city of Munich, resulting in the wounding of 28x people who were participating in a labor strike protest demonstration. Two people remain in serious condition, which are a mother and small child. The suspect, who has been identified as "Farhad N.", is an immigrant from Afghanistan who was allegedly already marked for deportation due to prior criminal offenses.AC: Of note, American Vice President JD Vance and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy were scheduled to meet in Munich for a security conference. As this is a developing situation this morning, it is not clear as to how this terror attack may impact the scheduling of the security conference.Middle East: This afternoon the USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75) was involved in a collision with a commercial vessel in the vicinity of Port Said in Egypt. The TRUMAN collided with the M/V BESITKAS-M, a bulk cargo carrier flagged out of Panama, and did not experience any flooding. AC: Very few details have come to light regarding how an American aircraft carrier can even be involved in a collision (due to being surrounded by escort ships and host to extreme levels of security), however it's possible that the collision took place in the very busy waterways leading to the Suez Canal. Even taking into account the challenges of maritime navigation through these waters, it is hard to imagine a scenario in which a collision with an aircraft carrier can occur.United Kingdom: Limited reporting on social media this afternoon indicated that an incident took place outside the Turkish Consulate in London. A man approached the Consulate and set a Koran on fire while standing on the sidewalk outside the compound. A random passerby promptly stabbed the man. AC: Absolutely zero British media has covered this story, or even mentioned that it happened. As such, no details can verify that this incident actually happened, beyond video evidence posted on social media.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: The horrific attack in Munich is made more poignant in the context of local German political activity. Three days ago, a very large demonstration involving an estimated 200,000 Germans was carried out in Munich, specifically in opposition to both the AfD political party, and various immigration issues. Three days later, one of the "immigrants" that those people were protesting to keep in their nation, rams his vehicle into a crowd. As a result (and very likely intended to get ahead of this tragedy reigniting immigration issues), outgoing Chancellor Scholz immediately called for the attacker to be punished and deported, a sharp departure from Germany's very pro-immigration stance across most of the nation. Scholz's very likely replacement, Friedrich Merz, echoed the same sentiments while on the campaign trail, stating that "something has to change in Germany". However, all of this rhetoric is very likely to be more of a knee-jerk reaction rather than a genuine change of heart or policy. For instance, immediately following his statements this morning, Merz announced a new targeting effort aimed at Elon Musk, for allowing Merz's political opposition (yet also very likely to be a coalition partner, the AfD party) to have a presence on Twitter/X.Analyst: S2A1Research: https://publish.obsidian.md/s2underground//END REPORT//
//The Wire//2300Z February 3, 2025////ROUTINE////BLUF: TRADE DISPUTES CONTINUE IN NORTH AMERICA. COUNTER-ICE PROTESTS BECOME MORE COMMON THROUGHOUT THE USA.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-North America: Over the weekend, the two-front trade dispute between the United States, Canada, and Mexico has become more substantial as both Canada and Mexico have announced retaliatory tariffs on imported American goods. In Mexico, following diplomatic discussions, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has agreed to deploy approximately 10,000 troops to the border with the United States.AC: If this deployment actually comes to fruition, this will be an absolutely massive effort on the part of Mexico. Right now, the United States has had around 10,000 soldiers deployed to the border region for many years. Of course, this number has fluctuated over the years, but generally speaking it's been a logistical nightmare for the U.S. military. In Mexico, committing 10,000 troops to a border security mission would be completely unheard of. Nevertheless, the agreement has been made, and time will tell if it will hold. Perhaps to sweeten the deal, this morning Mexican authorities captured El Mando Ricky, one of the leaders of the CDN Cartel in Nuevo Laredo. A significant skirmish was reported during this raid, causing the U.S. Consulate to issue a shelter-in-place warning for all Americans in the city.Greece: Over the past few days the region has been host to substantial seismic activity, with over 200 earthquakes being reported throughout the nation. So far the damage has been minimal, as the earthquakes have been comparatively small, however the increased activity is raising concerns that a larger earthquake may be imminent. Most of the earthquakes have clustered around Santorini, a major volcano. Notably, the earthquakes that have been reported are tectonic and not volcanic in nature, but the risk of a larger event remains elevated nonetheless as the magnitude of these earthquakes has been increasing.-HomeFront-USA: Counter-ICE resistance movements continue to take form, with several protest actions and demonstrations taking place over the weekend. In California, protesters shut down several major highways, and have continued sporadic demonstrations throughout the day. AC: In California, the single greatest method for ensuring that the entire population hates you and your protest movement, is to block traffic. Either way, the demonstrations have continued throughout the state.Washington D.C. - Since President Trump's inauguration (and thus the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)), many items of note have come to light regarding corruption, inefficiency, money laundering, and so on. For instance, USAID (the main agency responsible for the distribution of financial aid to foreign nations) has largely been shut down and their duties delegated to the State Department.AC: While the exact reasons for this have not entirely been made public yet, from the outside looking in, it appears as though USAID was largely serving as mostly a money laundering platform, which was automatically issuing payments, even to known terror groups (which is not a new problem, this has been going on publicly for years).-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: Purely based on very simple import/export data, there is zero chance that the trade war between the United States and Canada will turn in Canada's favor. Roughly 20% of Canada's entire GDP comes from trade with the United States...but less than 0.02% of America's GDP comes from Canadian trade. Furthermore, Canada's efforts to somehow pushback against the United States are largely grounded in something other than logic, almost entirely due to Canada's own domestic actions over the past few years. For instance, specifically and deliberately due to government pressure
What were Napoleon Bonaparte's biggest achievements during the Consulate period from 1799 to 1804? Lee Harvey Oswald's trip to Mexico is one of the most mysterious aspects of the JFK assassination case, and some say it holds the key to understanding what really happened and who was actually involved. Today's episode Part 7 is the seventh episode in this miniseries. In Part 7 we pick the action up as Oswald has checked into the hotel in Mexico and now heads immediately to the Cuban Consulate in search of a transit visa. We follow Oswald on Friday's odyssey, including three visits to the Cuban Consulate and one visit to the Soviet Embassy. Oswald's efforts to obtain a transit visa that would allow him to travel to Cuba are ultimately thwarted that day, and some of the most important events of his visit happen on Friday including his only known and verifiable interaction with Silvia Duran. And some of the confounding questions begin to arise as well, on whether it was the authentic Oswald (or not) that visited the Cuban Consulate and the Soviet Embassy. And what to make of the phone calls to the Soviet Embassy in the minutes after his arrival in Mexico City. Calls that seem difficult for him to have made and that clearly don't seem to be Oswald, because they were spoken in Spanish, a language he could not speak. And luck would have it that his four visits that day, three to the Cuban Consulate and one to the Soviet Embassy, all escaped the America surveillance cameras with no photographs either taken or surviving for posterity. Was that accomplished for the reasons explained by the CIA, or was it done deliberately for another reason? We're exploring aspect of the Mexico City story that ultimately impacted what the government decided that it could not reveal and highlight about Mexico City at that moment...now just beginning to explore the curious role of the CIA and its involvement in the Mexico City affair.....and the plume of suspicions that Mexico creates for the CIA... Come join us as we take you through an entire mini-series of episodes that explore what we know and we don't know about Oswald and his trip to Mexico City. We will take you from the moment he left New Orleans and traveled to Mexico City, through his time there and his return to the United States.. That is...if he even went at all..to Mexico ....or rather if he was not the only Oswald who was in Mexico in late September and early October. The plot thickens almost immediately. The evidence in this part of the case is confounding and it may be one of the toughest assignments yet for all of us, including you, the jury, to sort through it all. Come join us as we review one of the most fascinating story tells regarding the JFK assassination, and as we borrow heavily from so many great researchers including the work of Jefferson Morley who wrote Our Man In Mexico and John Armstrong who wrote Harvey and Lee, two of the most detailed and spellbinding books every written on the JFK assassination. Others as well contribute to the richness of our investigation into what happened...really...in Mexico City....Even as early as 1964, rumors and serious concerns over the lone gunman theory and the evidence that might contravene it, were becoming a major concern for the government and the commission. Conspiracy theories were contrary to the government's stated narrative from the very beginning. This real-life story is more fascinating than fiction. No matter whether you are a serious researcher or a casual student, you will enjoy the fact filled narrative and story as we relive one of the most shocking moments in American History. An event that changed the nation and changed the world forever.
The sudden ascent of Mohammed bin Salman from an obscure royal heir to the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia — the country's de facto ruler — has fascinated Jonathan Rugman, an author and longtime correspondent in the Middle East. Jonathan's latest BBC documentary, “The Kingdom,” traces MBS's life from an unruly youth to a series of Machiavellian maneuvers to cut ahead of cousins and uncles in the line of royal succession. Jonathan's reporting illuminates a brash but secretive young autocrat whose wealth and power have few equals anywhere on the planet. After years of high-profile murder, jailings, and crackdowns, a formidable question remains: What more does MBS want? Jonathan Rugman is a Visiting Lecturer in the journalism department at City, University of London, who has reported from some 50 countries during his 30-year journalism career. He is the author of “Ataturk's Children – Turkey and the Kurds” and “The Killing in the Consulate,” in which he investigated the murder of the Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. His numerous awards include a BAFTA for his coverage of the Paris terror attacks of 2015.
