Marjorie Taylor Greene's (R-GA) resignation from Congress could handicap Republicans in a critical period during which government funding expires, with dire consequences for the MAGA movement. Georgia law dictates that within ten days of a congressman's resignation, the state's governor must call a special election to take place after at least 30 days from his pronouncement. If no candidate wins a majority in the jungle election (during which all candidates run against one another regardless of party), a runoff with the top two vote-getters takes place 28 days later. By prolonging her election, Greene all but assures her seat will be empty during a period where Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) — and the American people dependent on a functioning federal government — may need every vote they can get. The Brotherhood is the unified political voice of many regional chapters, each with a varying degree of authentic Islam behind it. Qatar is the central bank for the Muslim Brotherhood; Turkey represents the Brotherhood's biggest national support network, and Egypt is the intellectual or scholastic battleground where the values of political Islam are debated. The executive order instructs the State Dept to officially begin the process to look at each chapter of the Muslim Brotherhood as a separate entity, and then see if the designation of a terrorist organization can apply to that chapter. As noted in the Executive Order, “relevant here, its chapters in Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt engage in or facilitate and support violence and destabilization campaigns.”  It looks like Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt chapters of the Brotherhood will get the first review. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi already dealt with the extremist Muslim Brotherhood once, kicking their leadership out of Egypt.  The leaders fled to Qatar, and then ultimately ended up in Turkey, where Recep Erdogan absolutely loves the usefulness of the Brotherhood. Ker iz Ukrajine prihajajo vedno bolj zaskrbljujoče novice, smo poklicali sodelavko tamkajšnje Karitas Miro Milavec, ki nam je povedala, česa se ljudje najbolj bojijo in kaj lahko mi naredimo za mir. When a pair of high-profile internet outages took down large chunks of the internet last month, the events briefly brought hundreds of organizations to a near-halt and prevented millions of users from accessing core services for everyday business needs. From Starbucks to crypto exchanges to the messaging app Signal, the outages rippled across nearly every sector, shining a spotlight onto the country's — and even the government's — reliance on a mere handful of cloud service providers. In the wake of those incidents, watchdog groups are calling on federal regulators to scrutinize the role that massive cloud companies like Amazon and Microsoft play in owning and maintaining much of our collective backend IT infrastructure. Meanwhile, technology and cybersecurity experts point out that, because of financial and business realities, there are very few alternatives to the large companies that now dominate the market. The Amazon Web Services outage began Oct. 19 and lasted into Oct. 20. According to Amazon's post-mortem, a single software bug in DynamoDB — the system that manages website addresses, along with efforts to repair it — caused all services in the Northern Virginia region that relied on the tool to go down for 15 hours. Just over a week later, Microsoft's Azure cloud platform experienced an outage impacting several of its services. According to Microsoft, an “inadvertent tenant configuration change” occurred in Azure Front Door, the company's content delivery network. The outages exposed just how fragile the country's digital infrastructure is and showed the risks of letting a few companies hold so much power. As a result, some groups are urging federal regulators to address the issue. Federal agencies would be required to report artificial intelligence-related layoffs to the Department of Labor under a new bill from a bipartisan pair of senators. The AI-Related Job Impacts Clarity Act from Sens. Mark Warner, D-Va., and Josh Hawley, R-Mo., calls on agencies and major companies to deliver quarterly reports to DOL on the impact AI has on their workforces, detailing job cuts and displacements. Hawley said in a press release“Artificial intelligence is already replacing American workers, and experts project AI could drive unemployment up to 10-20% in the next five years. The American people need to have an accurate understanding of how AI is affecting our workforce, so we can ensure that AI works for the people, not the other way around.” The bill would also require agencies and companies to report hirings that can be “substantially” credited to AI, as well as the number of individuals they are retraining because of AI. Da pronađeš sebe u svetu koji se menja i da naučiš da promene nisu neprijatelj, već prilika da ponovo postaneš svoj. Podle šéfkomentátora Hospodářských novin Petra Honzejka „Andrej Babiš udělal totální landslide“ - rekordní výsledek, který potvrdil jeho schopnost oslovit lidi mimo dosah médií i velkých měst. Šéfredaktor Echo24 Dalibor Balšínek mluví o vystřízlivění establishmentu a o tom, že voliči nechtějí extrémy, ale „umírněný, autentický střed“. Vysoká účast podle něj rozhodla a ukázala, že společnost je rozdělená v poměru šedesáti ku čtyřiceti, kde vládní tábor ztrácí dech. Babiš podle obou hostů využil toho, co ostatní politici přehlíželi - osobní přítomnosti, terénní kampaně a jednoduchých sdělení. „ANO zlikvidovalo komunisty, sociální demokraty a podařilo se mu velmi výrazně vysát i SPD,“ říká Honzejk. Balšínek dodává, že na rozdíl od Petra Fialy má Andrej Babiš „urputnost a schopnost jít si za svým“. Dokonce tvrdí, že lídr Spolu za prohru může zčásti sám, protože působil trochu „ukňouraně a dotčeně“. Rozhovor se ale rychle posouvá od volebních čísel k otázce, kdo má v Česku vůbec vést. Balšínek tvrdí, že společnost potřebuje lídry, kteří ponesou odpovědnost, ne kolektivní alibismus. Honzejk se toho bojí a varuje před tím, aby se demokracie nepřeklopila do despotie. „Já jsem z toho vyděšenej,“ říká. „Konec konců, v případě Andreje Babiše, který je zvyklý všechno držet a chce jednobarevnou vládu, kde vše ovládne, vidím despotický způsob uvažování,“ tvrdí novinář. Na pozadí jejich debaty se objevuje širší obraz: unavená vláda, eroze koalice Spolu, strany beze směru a společnost hledající jistotu mezi chaosem. „Spolu ztratilo smysl existence,“ myslí si Balšínek. Podle Honzejka volební koalici možná brzy nahradí samostatná ODS a dokonce očekává, že Petr Fiala do několika dnů odstoupí z vedení strany. Šéfkomentátor Hospodářských novin také dodává, že česká politika dnes stojí hlavně na střetu mezi „gulášovým populismem“ a hodnotovými zásadami. Dva novináři, dva obrazy Česka po volbách. Kde jeden vidí návrat k odpovědnosti a silným osobnostem, druhý slyší ozvěnu autoritářství. Kdo má pravdu? The likely successor to the late Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., hopes to continue his former boss's commitment to federal IT reform if elected to Congress, while also gearing up to build his own legacy in the era of DOGE. Democrat James Walkinshaw told FedScoop in an interview last week that carrying on Connolly's federal IT advocacy is especially important to him as widespread workforce and program cuts present new challenges for the government's IT staff and related initiatives. While issues like IT modernization and procurement might “become less and less sexy by the day” amid other controversies in Washington, Walkinshaw said he is a “believer” that Congress should keep its foot on the pedal in this space. Walkinshaw, who served as Connolly's chief of staff for 11 years, is vying for Virginia's 11th congressional seat this fall to succeed the late congressman following his death from cancer in May. He currently serves on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. During the interview with FedScoop, Walkinshaw shared his thoughts on the lasting impacts of DOGE, his concerns with agency adoption of AI and his policy goals, if elected. The IRS has lost a quarter of its workforce since the beginning of the Trump administration, including thousands from the tax agency's IT business unit, according to newly released watchdog data. A snapshot report from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration found that more than 25,000 IRS employees either took the deferred resignation offer, retired or were separated from the agency in another way, while nearly 300 staffers were terminated via reduction-in-force actions. Combined, those departures represent 25% of the agency's workforce, which has downsized from roughly 103,000 staffers to 77,428 as of May. According to TIGTA, the IRS's IT business unit has lost 25% of its staffers over the same period, leaving the division with just over 2,100 employees. The IT management job series across agency units is down 23%, per the report. TIGTA also confirmed previous FedScoop reporting on the IRS's move in late March to place nearly 50 IT executives on administrative leave. Among those employees, 26 eventually departed via Treasury Department incentive offerings, while another 22 are still on admin leave, per the watchdog.
