Bruce Oake didn't speak until the age of two, but once he started, he never stopped. A precocious kid with boundless energy growing up in Winnipeg, Oake was an amateur boxer as a teenager and a talented hip hop artist who adored the ragged, tough guy aura of some of his musical heroes. But by his mid-20s Bruce was firmly caught up in the opioid epidemic and struggling to find a way to get clean, leaving his parents to wonder what they could possibly do to help their son. On this episode of Paternal, Scott Oake looks back on the life and death of his eldest son, and reflects on if he could have done anything differently as a father. He also discusses the idea of addiction as a health issue versus a moral issue, misconceptions about rehabilitation centers, and how a recovery center built in Bruce Oake's memory gives dozens of men the chance to heal. Scott Oake is an award-winning sports broadcaster who has contributed to “Hockey Night in Canada” since 1989. His new memoir For the Love of a Son will be available beginning Jan. 21, wherever you buy books. All proceeds will be donated to the Bruce and Anne Oake Foundation.

The game involves 12 items people, place, things, phrases or anything as long as they share the same initials. All 12 items share the same initials. The contestants do not know the initials until they are revealed shortly before the game starts. Each item has 6 clues. As soon as the contestants know who or what the host is describing, they yell out their name. Their name is their buzzer. If the contestant gets it right, they get a point. If they get it wrong they are out for just that item. The item does have to be pronounced correctly. It is best out of 12 with tiebreakers if needed. Tiebreaker items have 3 clues.#InitialsGame #ThePowerTrip #KFAN1003FOLLOW The Power Trip on Social Media:► Like the show on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/PowerTripKFAN► Follow the show on Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/PowerTripKFAN► Follow the show on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/PowerTripKFAN► Follow Cory Cove on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/CoryCove► Follow Chris Hawkey on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/Chris_Hawkey► Follow Meatsauce on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/Meatsauce1► Follow Mark Parrish on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/MarkDParrish► Follow Marney Gellner on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/MarneyGellner► Follow Aj Mansour on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/AjKFAN► Follow Zach Halverson on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/ZachHalverson

For most of us, coffee is that delicious first sip in the morning that warms your whole body. But for some people, coffee is a way of coping with life. In this episode, Tom Harden talks about his role in helping those who need it the most. When he heard that the Oake family were planning to build the Bruce Oake Recovery Centre in his neighbourhood to honour their late son who died of an overdose in 2011, he knew he wanted to be involved in some way. ----more---- Knowing that coffee is the mainstay for all rehab and addiction centres, he created “Baristas 4 Bruce”, with the help of a local supplier, and started selling coffee beans at local coffee shops and retailers. Tom pays for the coffee upfront and shares that it's his contribution to the cause. In addition to the coffee, he also sells jars of his “Bees 4 Bruce” honey. Tom donates 100% of all proceeds from the sale of coffee and honey to the Bruce Oake Recovery Centre. His goal is to raise enough money to pay for a whole year's supply of coffee. We can all be an agent of hope like Tom. And sometimes, all it takes is a cup of coffee. ----more---- To purchase coffee or honey, contact Tom at https://instagram.com/baristas4bruce To support the Bruce Oake Recovery Centre, visit https://www.bruceoakefoundation.com Follow Genny on Instagram at @CoffeeWithGennyB See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
