The number of horses that die at Melbourne Cup is "disproportionate" compared to other races, the NZ Herald's racing editor says.Twilight Payment won the prestigious race today, but it was marred by a horse — 2019 Epsom Derby winner Anthony Van Dyck — breaking down early in the race and having to be euthanized. It was the seventh horse since 2013 to be put down after racing in the Melbourne Cup.Anthony Van Dyck, ridden by veteran jockey Hugh Bowman, broke down at the 400-metre mark and had to be euthanized. Tiger Moth's stablemate had carried top weight. Anthony Van Dyck raced 19 times in five countries and collected five other wins to go alongside his English Derby triumph.“It is with sadness that we confirm that Anthony Van Dyck had to be humanely euthanized after sustaining a fractured fetlock,” Racing Victoria spokesman Jamie Stier said. “The horse received immediate veterinary care, however he was unable to be saved due to the nature of the injury sustained.“Our sympathies are extended to the owners of Anthony Van Dyck, trainer Aidan O'Brien and all his staff who cared for the horse and are greatly saddened by their loss.”NZ Herald racing editor Mick Guerin told D'Arcy Waldegrave that the figure is at odds with other races, and there is no clear reason why so many horses die at Melbourne Cup."It's been quite remarkab LISTEN ABOVE

Compre livros com desconto aqui https://amzn.to/2BHsh7d Sir Anthony van Dyck (22 de março 1599 – 9 dezembro 1641) foi um pintor belga, grande representante do barroco flamengo, que fez sucesso como retratista na corte inglesa. Van Dyck está entre os grandes pintores da arte figurativa clássica, em uma fase anterior ao impressionismo na qual o realismo e a técnica formal ainda eram a regra. Ele na juventude ele trabalhou como discípulo de outro pintor clássico, Peter Paul Rubens, mas logo adquiriu fama e seguiu seu próprio caminho. O tema principal de van Dyck eram os retratos, área que ele dominou e estabeleceu padrões de composição que até hoje definem o retrato clássico (por isso ele é atribuído como uma das influências de John S. Sargent). Como era comum na época o outra temática dele eram as cenas religiosas, há poucos registros de paisagens dele, mas ele é tido como um artista importante para o desenvolvimento da aquarela e justamente nessa técnica que ele fez seus estudos de paisagem (vale lembrar que na época a aquarela era tida como uma técnica menor, mais de estudo e as obras de arte eram feitas a óleo). Um detalhe curioso sobre Van Dyck é o tanto que ele é influente até hoje mesmo entre quem não conhece o trabalho dele. A pintura a óleo tradicional usava muitos os tons marrons, terrosos e ocre, um desses tons foi batizado de Vandyke brown, que é um pigmento semitransparente feito de uma matéria orgânica cujo os principais depósitos estão em Colonia, na Alemanha. É um pigmento de alta permanência que foi batizado em homenagem ao pintor devido ao uso que ele fazia dessa cor. Outro elemento atribuído a Van Dyck é um corte de barba muito usado até hoje na caracterização de personagens excêntricos tanto na ilustração quanto no cinema, o corte consiste em um bigode alongando e um cavanhaque pontiagudo sem a interligação entre o bigode e o queixo. No vídeo, além de mostrar algumas obras, a barba e a cor, eu fiz uma pequena análise de algumas das técnicas que valem ser estudadas na obra desse pintor https://youtu.be/cErtqUfXqhY (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

Bendor Grosvenor is a British art dealer, art historian and writer. He is known for discovering a number of important lost works by Old Master artists, including Sir Peter Paul Rubens, Claude Lorrain and Peter Brueghel the Younger. The Equestrian Portrait of Charles I (also known as Charles I on Horseback) is an oil painting on canvas by Anthony van Dyck, showing Charles I on horseback. Charles I had become King of Great Britain and Ireland in 1625 on the death of his father James I, and Van Dyck became the Charles' Principal Painter in Ordinary in 1632. The portrait is thought to have been painted in about 1637–38, only a few years before the English Civil War broke out in 1642. It is one of many portraits of Charles by Van Dyck, including several equestrian portraits. It is held by the National Gallery, London. View this episode's image
