In this episode, Jess and Megan walk us through their recent family getaways to two standout Hyatt properties in the American Southwest: the Grand Hyatt Scottsdale in Arizona and the Hyatt Regency Tamaya in New Mexico. From flights on Southwest® using Companion Passes to family-friendly resort and cultural activities, they break down exactly how they booked, what they loved, and what they'd do differently next time. Grand Hyatt Scottsdale: Renovated Luxury with Resort Vibes Fresh off a huge renovation and rebrand, the former Hyatt Regency Scottsdale is now the Grand Hyatt Scottsdale—and Jess and Megan each had three-night family stays to check it out. The resort has ten pools, including a three-story water slide, a sandy beach area for little kids, and a separate adults-only pool. There's even a rock-climbing wall, putting green, and weekly birds of prey show. The club lounge, while small, included complimentary breakfast, drinks, appetizers, and desserts, and Jess made good use of the free happy hour drinks by taking them poolside. Their biggest warning? Avoid Thursday–Saturday stays if you're sensitive to noise—live music in the lobby those nights is extremely loud and carries to guest rooms. Jess called it the biggest damper on an otherwise enjoyable trip. Hyatt Regency Tamaya: Hidden Gem Near Albuquerque Megan also shares her family's stay at Hyatt Regency Tamaya, located on the Santa Ana Pueblo in New Mexico. Recently renovated and still a Category 4 Hyatt, it offered unique Native American cultural experiences, incredible mountain views, and tons of free family activities. Megan's family enjoyed nightly s'mores by the fire pit, cultural storytelling sessions, hands-on artisan demos, and a pueblo bread tasting. There are multiple pools, bike rentals, and even a horseback riding stable on-site. This resort is just 30 minutes from Albuquerque's airport and offers easy access to Santa Fe and Petrified Forest National Park not too far away—making it perfect for road trip loops or a more relaxing extended stay. If you're dreaming of a warm-weather escape filled with adventure, learning, and luxury—without the luxury price tag—this episode is packed with inspiration and real-world tips for traveling the Southwest on points. My guest today began her Club Med journey as a Reception G.O. and later served as Chief of Horseback. Her first season was at Club Med Sandpiper in 1997. Originally from Walnut Creek, California, she grew up near an equestrian center, which sparked her passion for horses. She went on to play polo at UC Santa Barbara while studying Communications and also showcased her vocal talents by singing in the All-State Honor Choir. Her path to Club Med was first set in motion during a family vacation to Club Med Playa Blanca when she was a teenager. Now living in Florida, please join me in welcoming the talented and dynamic Kelly Hammett! We kick off the interview by exploring Kelly's fascinating life before Club Med, then dive deep into the stories and experiences from her two unforgettable seasons. Kelly shares heartfelt memories of the friendships she built, the moments she cherishes most, and the aspects of Club Med she still misses today. As a teenager visiting Club Med Playa Blanca, Kelly dreamed of becoming Chief of Horseback there—and in 1997, she made that dream a reality. Please enjoy this fun and inspiring conversation with the always entertaining Kelly Hammett! . **My First Season podcast has always been ad-free and free to listen to and is available to download on: Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Samsung Podcasts, Podbean App, Podchaser, Spotify, Amazon Music/Audible, TuneIn + Alexa, iHeartRadio, PlayerFM, Pandora and Listen Notes. On this episode of Mad Genius, comedian and host Ariel Kashanchi recounts what happened when she took her cat on a walk (spoiler: the cat had notes), and dives into the absurdity of recent headlines: a substitute teacher handing out THC gummies to a classroom of teens, four cowboys who decided Walmart was their new rodeo arena, and a 911 operator who casually ordered a McGriddle while someone was reporting a crime. Expect jokes, judgment, and just enough chaos to make you question reality.

At age 92, Boots O'Neal still gets horseback every day. The longtime Four Sixes Ranch cowboy was raised in West Texas and started working at age 15 in 1947. He has since hired on with legendary outfits such as the JA Ranch, Matador, Waggoner, Babbitts and now the Sixes. Despite encountering his share of broncy horses, snorty cows, merciless droughts, severe winter storms and visits to the emergency room — a couple of them recently — he has never wavered from his chosen occupation. He received the Working Cowboy Award from the National Ranching Heritage Center in 2018 and was inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2023.

“I came face to face with grizzly bears. I had to befriend drug lords. I saw two people shot dead. I witnessed a guy trying to kill his wife with five gunshots. In 1939, incredibly, the British Army still fielded cavalry units that had yet to be mechanised, relying on horses as they prepared for war. When conflict broke out, these regiments—many of them Territorial Army Yeomanry units—were mobilised, with horses being requisitioned to meet the demand. By 1940, the 1st British Cavalry Division was deployed to the Middle East, where they would play a significant role in Operation Exporter, the Allied invasion of Vichy-controlled Syria. Today, I'm joined by Jonathan Washington, author of Fighting Vichy from Horseback: British Mounted Cavalry in Action, Syria 1941, to explore this fascinating chapter of military history. patreon.com/ww2podcast

Send us a textChoosing a guiding word for the year can be transformative, and for me, embracing “enough” has been a journey of self-acceptance and growth. This episode starts with my reflections on the concept of being "enough" and how it guides us toward contentment, even as we strive for personal improvement. Along the way, we address a listener's query from Honduras about horseback riding techniques, underscoring the crucial role of open communication with instructors to achieve balance and alignment in riding.Joining me is Quentin Dhondt, a former student whose journey from horses to a career in biology is nothing short of inspiring. Quentin shares how his experiences with thoroughbred Leo and his first horse, a quarter horse named Jesse taught him invaluable life lessons, from embracing responsibility at a young age to developing confidence and skills. His story is a moving testament to how horses have shaped his passion for animals and personal development, and now we celebrate the pivotal role these majestic creatures have played in his life.Horseback riding is more than a sport; it's a reflection of teamwork and perseverance. Quentin and I explore how riding helped us both overcome doubts and build confidence, translating these lessons into life skills like patience and emotional connection. We discuss the power of consistent effort and the importance of embracing failures as stepping stones to growth. Wrapping up, we reflect on the dreams and aspirations within the equestrian world, celebrating the journey of self-discovery and transformation that comes with growing up around horses. Get the FREE audio guide to help you and your horse successfully lunge in 3 days or less HERE If lunging is just not working for you and your horse, there is a whole element that you are missing out on when it comes to your training and your work together. In the previous Daily Strides Podcast episode and post, I spoke about 5 ways that you, the person lunging, might be struggling. In this post, I want to explore this from your horse's perspective. Riding is a team sport, lunging is the same. If your horse does not understand the concept, the questions, or the expectations around lunging, he will struggle... And you will most likely as well! Here are 10 reasons that your horse might be struggling with lunging and why this is blocking any progress for you both in using this method in your work together. Read the Full Article HERE https://stridesforsuccess.com/episode1350-5-reasons-youre-struggling-with-lunging-part-2 Help Your Horse Enjoy Lunging Our horses can't 'talk' to us. They often communicate through their behaviors. It's important to take the time to try and understand why your horse is reacting or responding the way he is. When you can figure out what's going on, you can help him to understand lunging. Addressing any of the struggles that show up will require clear, consistent communication, patience, and commitment with time to building your horse's confidence and understanding. This way, lunging can become a really helpful part of both of your journeys. Steph is a Mum to a her nearly 7 year old son, a soldiers wife, and Operations manager for Forces Wives Challenge (FWC). In July 2019 Steph and her families' world was turned upside down when she became suddenly very unwell, and was subsequently diagnosed with a neurological disorder. Going from an active, full time working Mum and a keen horse rider, to fully dependant on a wheelchair, with complex health issues and requiring 24/7 care to support with everyday tasks, was life changing. With sheer determination, an incredible support network and a passion for adventure, less than two years later Steph was back in the saddle and aiming for the next challenge in life. Steph found her new 'place' within the FWC community amongst other women seeming adventure. In June 2023 Steph tackled FWC's ‘Ride to Freedom' expedition and became the world's first wheelchair dependant person to ride by horse back across the Pyrenees from France to Spain. Steph and her team battled extreme heat, a dangerous thunder and lightening storm, treacherous ground and long days in the saddle to complete the 130km route using the WW2 freedom trails. Steph has now also founded her own CIC (non-profit) called Equine Para-adventures, which will seek to offer disabled horse riders their own equine adventures out of the usual riding school set up. In February 2026 Equine Para-adventures will start its flagship adventure called ‘Ride to Independence' when a team of 6 ladies, including Steph, will ride a historic route across the Andes from Argentina to Chile and Steph will aim to complete it and gain another ‘worlds first'. *** Don't miss out on the latest episodes of the Tough Girl Podcast, released every Tuesday at 7am UK time!
