On this edition of the Strip-Till Farmer podcast, brought to you by Yetter Farm Equipment, the jovial Jon Stevens gives us a peek inside his Rock Creek, Minn., strip-till operation. Stevens began his relentless pursuit for healthy soils a little over a decade ago when he ditched conventional tillage for strip-till and no-till. In this presentation from the 2023 National Strip-Tillage Conference, Stevens details his systematic approach to building soil health using strip-till, cattle and cover crops, and shares results from on-farm trials to illustrate how farm profitability doesn't always equate to being the highest yielder.

Interview by Kyra-Jade CoombsIn my opinion, The Living End are a staple in the Australian music scene. They have graciously given us 8 albums and if you break them down over the years, you find hit after hit. Their debut album (self-titled) is one of those albums you can play start to finish and happily immerse yourself right into their music and feel nothing but pure joy.HEAVY took the chance to have a chat with singer/ guitar player Chris Cheney to see what's new in the world of The Living End…From the 15-17 of August The Living End are playing the sold-out Mundi Mundi Bash in Broken Hill with a few other huge names like Baby Animals (my absolute favourite!), James Reyne, Jon Stevens, Ian Moss, Daryl Braithwaite and Diesel to name a few. The fact that it has sold out in outback Broken Hill is amazing news for a health check of our Australian music industry. We are slowly getting back on track.Chris immediately laughed, saying it's surreal that although he grew up listening to most of these guys; he never thought he would see the day where he could call them mates and share the stage with them. A far cry from starting out and playing the front bar of the Epsy!Fans would be happy to hear that they are chipping away at creating their 9th album, and it's said to be ‘the most aggressive album' they have put together in years. If you jump onto The Living End social media, you can see a few behind the scenes shots that look like a bunch of fun.I must admit, I was absolutely stoked to be able to interview Chris. I had 1000 questions to ask him and could honestly chat for hours. We covered lots of cool shit like playing in Australia's golden days of the Big Day Out tours, getting rotation Triple J and appearing on Recovery – Channel [V] to having that telepathic connections with his band mates, giving way to improve jams that can either be a trainwreck or magic, in his words! You'll get a glimpse into his creative space, where he's got a set-up to appease any creative mood. An area for producing music, painting and even a bar. What more could you want, really?Being someone who's so passionate about music, I wondered what band or album Chris would give his younger self, or bring to his attention earlier if he could go back in time. To my surprise, he said early Cold Chisel… I guess I just assumed that would have been a staple. Yet of course being someone who grew up smashing the shredders of the world like Eddie Van Halen then going onto 50s music, Aussie pub rock wasn't the path they were on, nor wanted to. Which is interesting to think about the full circle moment from starting out as a young band being told to ‘play Aussie rock' to being put on the huge bills with the original Australian pub rock music pioneers and staying true to who they are.Chris is a very humble guy and genuinely - so stoked to have reached the status that they have today with The Living End. He is the kind of person you want as a role model for young musicians and says there's a space for every type of music, which sings true to his kind nature. The Living End boys still have “a lot of fuel in the tank” and thankfully aren't showing signs of slowing down!If you were lucky enough to secure a ticket to the Mundi Mundi Bash then get out there and have the time of your life! And if you didn't then that will teach you not to sleep on a good thing!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

After confidence boosting performances with Terence Trent D'Arby, the Tim Rice Extravaganza and closing out the 2000 Olympic Games, INXS sought an old mate to take the frontman duties in ex Noiseworks lead singer, Jon Stevens. Having carved a 20 plus year career as a soloist, frontman and pivotal member of the 1992/93 Jesus Christ Superstar revival stage show throughout Australia, Jon's credentials were bonafide and deserving. With domestic tours throughout Australia, subsequent ones to the USA, Latin America and Europe, it looked like INXS had overcome the inner uncertainty that plagued their previous 4 years. Armed with a plan to assert themselves across the globe in both a “live concert” and recording sense, optimism was high. Despite strong reviews of Jon's contribution to the band particularly in the performing sense, Jon would get disheartened with the lack of band creativity in the studio. With the sole single “I Get Up” released in 2003 to coincide with the Rugby Union World Cup the only fresh material, Jon would decide to leave INXS to pursue his own musical interests. That aside, Jon's contribution to the healing, morale and confidence for INXS to continue as a going concern entity cannot be underestimated and should be appreciated. We also go back to the year 1998 with a little pleasure and pain segment highlighting the sheer disparity of great and not so great songs that permeated the airwaves. So sit back, pour yourself a favourite tipple and enjoy a jam packed episode 182 of INXS: Access all Areas. Plus the all important comp comes to an end and we see who will win the 2 tickets to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. for more info check out our website https://www.inxsaccessallareas.com/
With the year 2000 upon us, the world was entering an exciting new century. Music, cinema, pop culture and the arts were evolving and INXS were starting to take bigger steps in a world without Michael Hutchence. With the dust settling on Michael's posthumous album release, INXS took the left field move of signing up to the Tim Rice Spectacular Concert Series through Australia. Joining recognized artists such as Iva Davies (Icehouse), David Essex (Rock On) and a bevy of renowned Australian artists re-interpreting Tim's amazing back catalogue of songs. With confidence slowly returning as an entity, the band continued to surprise teaming up with Jon Stevens (formerly Noiseworks) for two impromptu but sold out gigs in Melbourne and Sydney. With fans traveling as far as Chicago and the UK to attend these gigs, the level of passion and pride at seeing a full-set INXS gig again was palpable! Combined with some private corporate gigs, the band made their long awaited international return headlining the closing ceremony of the 2000 Olympic Games with a rollicking updated version of What you Need that had the crowd on their feet. So with small steps, INXS were getting their mojo back in a steady and incremental way against the odds. INXS (a phonetic play on "in excess") were an Australian rock band, formed as the Farriss Brothers in 1977 in Sydney, New South Wales. The founding members were bassist Garry Gary Beers, main composer and keyboardist Andrew Farriss, drummer Jon Farriss, guitarist Tim Farriss, lead singer and main lyricist Michael Hutchence, and guitarist and saxophonist Kirk Pengilly. For 20 years, INXS was fronted by Hutchence, whose magnetic stage presence made him the focal point of the band. Initially known for their new wave/pop style, the band later developed a harder pub rock style that included funk and dance elements. In 1984, INXS had their first number-one hit in Australia with "Original Sin". The band achieved international success in the mid-to-late 1980s and early 1990s with the hit albums Listen Like Thieves, Kick, and X, and the singles "What You Need", "Need You Tonight" (the band's only US number-one single), "Devil Inside", "Never Tear Us Apart", "Suicide Blonde" and "New Sensation". After Hutchence's death on 22 November 1997, INXS made appearances with several guest singers, and toured and recorded with Jon Stevens as lead singer, beginning in 2000. In 2005, members of INXS participated in Rock Star: INXS, a reality television series that culminated in the selection of Canadian J.D. Fortune as their new lead singer. Irish singer-songwriter Ciaran Gribbin replaced Fortune as lead singer in 2011. During a concert on 11 November 2012, INXS stated that the performance would be their last, although they did not announce the band's permanent retirement. INXS won six Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) awards, including three for "Best Group" in 1987, 1989 and 1992; the band was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2001. INXS has sold over 70 million albums worldwide, making them one of Australia's highest selling music acts of all time.Complete setlist - 5/18/23Corey Hart - Never SurrenderCommentaryGenesis - Man On The CornerDon Henley - The Boys Of SummerTina Turner - We Don't Need Another Hero (Beyond Thunderdome)CommentaryINXS - The One Thing (extended)INXS - Don't ChangeCommentaryINXS - Here Comes IIINXS - Original Sin/commentaryINXS -What You NeedINXS - I Send A MessageINXS - To Look At YouCommentaryINXS - The Album "Kick" Side AGuns In The SkyNew SensationDevil InsideNeed You Tonight/MediateThe Loved OneCommentaryINXS - The Album "Kick" Side BWild LifeNever Tear Us ApartMystifyKickCalling All NationsTiny DaggersCommentaryINXS - Disappear INXS - Suicide BlondeRecorded live at the She Shack Studio on April 17th and 18th 2023.© Copyright Danny Diess
