Gloria Estefan walked so Shakira and Ricky Martin could run. She's the OG Latin crossover star, the artist who broke through to the mainstream with Miami Sound Machine and their massive hit "Conga" in 1985. She was also one of the best female balladeers of the 1980s, with songs like "Anything For You" and "Don't Wanna Lose You." In 1993 she released her first solo Spanish-language album, Mi Tierra, an homage to Cuban music. It spent a whopping 58 weeks at the top of the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart, only overtaken in 2020 by Bad Bunny.Songs played:CongaCan't Stay Away From YouVolverásMi TierraNo Hay Mal Que Por Bien No VengaTradiciónSupport the showIf you like this podcast, please subscribe and give us a 5-star rating on Apple PodcastsFollow The Clave Chronicles on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook @clavechronicleshttps://theclavechronicles.buzzsprout.comIntro and outro music: "Bengo Latino," Jimmy Fontanez/Media Right Productions
Matt talks about R&B first dance songs to play as a married couple. Important Links View the complete list of R&B first dance songs. See all Wedding Songs Podcast episodes Podcast Transcript R&B music is soulful, it's romantic, and I think it makes for some of the best wedding songs you can play as a married couple. Today I am going to be focusing on more of the newer songs so of course, these are not the tried and true classics that you can find. Examples like Sam Cook and Nat King Cole. I just want to give you some ideas that are outside of the box that maybe you haven't thought of, that maybe describe your relationship and your love for each other. Now, if you prefer to read the list, or listen to the list (as you know we cannot play the list legally), you can do so on the website MyWeddingSongs.com and just search for First Dance songs and it will come up. While you are on the website, make sure you sign up for our monthly newsletter of all the new wedding songs released in the previous month, plus what is trending. Let us go ahead and get started with the first song on the list. It is by Veto and is called “Forever”. Released in 2022 it is a brand new song but it is quickly becoming very popular. Lyrics include…You have all the leverage, girl, I'm yours if you want it, Let's make it forever, girl. Another great new song is by Selah Sue called “You (Rework)” with the lyrics…All I need is time in your embrace, It's always so much better, Never in my life I've felt this way, Yes, you are all I need. Another one of my recent favorites is by Ric Hassani and is called “Angel (Acoustic Version)” You may not have heard of him yet, but this is a fantastic first dance song with the lyrics…I might lose sleep tonight, ‘Cause finally my dream has come true, I was created for you, You are my angel. As I said, the lyrics fit very nicely into a first dance song. Now, this next song was on top of the R&B adult chart, and it is by the popular Kem with his song “Stuck On You”. It was released in 2022 with the lyrics…And your love, Is all I needed, To be fearless, Baby, I'm stuck on you. And, the last song I have, released in 2022, is by an artist probably most well known for his song “Down”. It is Jay Sean with his song “Incomplete” with the lyrics (I should say the lover lyrics)…Never know when it could be different, If there was no you, I'd be, I'd be incomplete. Probably my favorite song on the whole list is by the artists Jose James and Taali with the song “I Found A Love”. Lyrics include…I found a love, The kind to hold, The kind that lifts you from the bottom of your soul, The kind that makes, The broken whole. Next up is Leela James in 2021 with the song “You're The One” with romantic lyrics…You're the one that treats me right, Just the way I like, You're the one. I like the connotations of this next song, “At My Worst” by Pink Sweat$ and Kehlani with the lyrics…If you stay forever, let me hold your hand, I can fill those places in your heart no one else can, Let me show you, love, oh, I don't pretend. Next up is actually a popular first dance song, “Conversations In The Dark” by John Legend, released in 2020. Lyrics include…You get hung up on your flaws, Well, in my eyes, you are perfect, As you are. Another duet is “Anything For You” by Ledisi and PJ Morton. It was released in 2020 with the lyrics…I will do anything for you, You are my life, one means us two, Anything, anything for you. Rahsaan Patterson released “Sent From Heaven” in 2019 with the lyrics…Thoughts of you rise like the sun, and, My days are much brighter Because you're sent from heaven. Another popular first dance song is by Snoh Aalegra “Find Someone Like You” released in 2019 with the lyrics…I've been waitin' my whole life, to find someone like you, Find someone like you. Here is another song that is not going to be on everybody's radar. Derran Day's song “My Word” was released in 2018 with the lyrics…Cross every star,

It's one day after Valentine's Day and we know everyone's already over it, but what society never seems to be over are real life tales of love and loss - the good, the bad, and the excruciatingly ugly. We at First Of All admit it openly - we love LOVE. And over time we can appreciate the bad for what it teaches us. In this solo episode, Minji shares the story behind one of the worst Valentine's Days (if not the worst) of her life - like full on ugly crying on the floor processing betrayal while in a whole other country with no wifi kinda bad. She also reflects on the long road she walked to heal and find love again, complete with a cute little love letter to celebrate it. Episode 11 Gloria Estefan Part Two Song Chronicles proudly presents its eleventh episode, the second of a two-part conversation with Gloria Estefan. Gloria Estefan has lived a phenomenal life since arriving in America with her family from Cuba when she was two years old. As a teenager, she joined the Miami Sound Machine, where she also met her future husband Emilio. The group slowly built a following over the course of a decade, first finding success in Latin America before hitting it big internationally with “Conga” in 1985. Whether with the Miami Sound Machine or solo, Gloria has been a regular on the charts, racking up hits with “Can’t Stay Away From You,” “The Rhythm is Going to Get You” and “Anything For You” in the ‘80s; "Coming Out Of The Dark," "Mi Tierra," and "Oye” in the ‘90s, and “Wrapped/Hoy,” “Out of Nowhere,” and “Hotel Nacional” in the 21st century. She has sold over 100 million records worldwide, ranking her among the top-selling artists around the globe. And that success continues with her recently released album, Brazil305, which debuted in the top 10 on Billboard’s Tropical Albums chart. The many prestigious accolades that Gloria has received almost match the number of her hit songs. She was the first Cuban-American to receive the Kennedy Center Honors and the first female singer to be awarded Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year. Gloria and Emilio were the first couple and first Cuban-Americans to receive the Gershwin Prize as well as the first couple to get the Presidential Medal of Freedom. A cultural trailblazer and role model, Gloria also has been honored for her humanitarian and philanthropic work by organizations like MusiCares, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, National Music Foundation, and Billboard. Gloria and Emilio receive the Medal of Freedom from President Obama Alex Wong/Getty Images North America Talking from her home in Miami Beach, Gloria shared some of her experiences during the pandemic. There were some things that she enjoyed — like doing interviews from home and being able to do her own hair and make-up (she also revealed that she’s known as the “eyebrow queen”) — and things that she disliked (such as not being able to easily get together with the rest of family, especially her 8-year-old grandson). Gloria with her daughter Emily and niece Lili She has kept busy during the pandemic not only working on the release of her new album, but also developing a Facebook Watch series, Red Table Talk: The Estefans that she is doing with her daughter Emily and niece Lili. One thing that she loves about doing this show is that it allows her to spend more time with her daughter. Gloria performing with Emily Emily Estefan is an up-and-coming singer-songwriter and Gloria talked about trying to coax her to release more of her music and not be so caught up in making recordings sound perfect. Her advice to her daughter — as well as any musician — is that making music is about “the free expression of emotion, a thought (and) an idea.” We also had a candid discussion about the highly sexualized ways that young female performers are often presented nowadays. While believing that everyone should express themselves as they want to, she cautions to think twice about doing a lot of “booty shaking” because it can come back to haunt you. Gloria, who revealed that she always tries to “elevate” with her music, said that there’s “no need to do something outside of your comfort zone…(and) it would be a shame if you did it to get attention.” Gloria performing in 1991 ABC Photo Archives via Getty Images One thing that has kept Gloria balanced — during the pandemic as well as before — is something that happened to her 30 years ago. In 1990, Gloria was very badly injured in a tour bus accident. She was nearly paralyzed and had to learn to walk again. A lesson she took away from this experience was to take what happens in life with a grain of salt. “I’m happy that I can do anything,” she said. “It’s a joy!” Please enjoy the second part of my conversation with Gloria Estefan.

Did Harvey miss Ed? I’d assume not. Will Barnes keep his secret to service the plot? If Butch is so loyal why mow down his crew? Turns out he won’t do “Anything For You.”
I can't think of no better way to offset a nu-school Diva induction with an old school induction that frankly, is long overdue. Gloria Estefan is a multi-Grammy winner with several top ten hits including Conga (her-trademark song performed with Miami Sound Machine), Rhythm Is Gonna Get You, 1-2-3, Get On Your Feet, Anything For You, Here We Are, Coming Out of the Dark, Oye! and Party Time to name a few. She's won an MTV Video Music award, a couple of ACE awards, an American Music award and multiple Billboard awards. She was inducted into the BMI Songwriters Hall of Fame and is listed as one of VH1's top 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. With a resume like that, it's no wonder she has garnered a great deal of respect as a mover and shaker within the recording industry. I'm not here to pile on more accolades, or maybe I am. What I will say is that her "salsa es muy caliente." Without further ado, Party Favorz honors Gloria (yes, she's earned the one name moniker) with an induction into the Diva Hall of Fame.
