It's just Kevin and Lauren this week... until it isn't... and then it is again. There's a lot to talk about, with The Outsiders the Musical, The Last of Us Season 2 Finale, Bad Shabbos, The Fountain of Youth, and The Last Showgirl. Lauren kicks off the show by talk about The Outsiders, last years Tony Award winner for best musical. If you recognize the name, it is in fact the same as the '80s Brat Pack film. While that might sounds like it shouldn't work, it absolutely does. With a great set design and score, the show really is spectacular. As Lauren was discussing that show, Andrew (who had already told everyone he had better things to do than waste his evening with them, mind you) popped in. This gave him and Kevin the chance to talk about the last 2 episodes of The Last of Us Season 2. The agreement is that episode 6 was spectacular and the finale was solid and Andrew, with a little time to ruminate, has found himself understanding Abby's story and Ellie's shortcomings a little more than before. All in all it's a great finish and cliffhanger for a solid season. After Andrew exits only slightly less unceremoniously than he arrived, Lauren talks about the indy film, Bad Shobbos. It's a low budget comedy with a cast of actors you'd recognize but most likely can't name beyond Kira Sedgwick, but it's wonderfully done and a great time. It's a movie that reminds us to look beyond the name on the poster and see what's really being put on the screen and most definitely worth a watch. Next up, Kevin talks about The Fountain of Youth, which is almost the exact opposite situation as Bad Shobbos. Here you have a stellar cast with John Krazinzky, Ntalie Portman, Stanley Tucci, Eiza Gonzalez, and more. Not only that, it's a big budget adventure film. But with all of that, it lacks the heart that something small and special like Bad Shobbos has, proving the point again, it's not the names on the poster, but what's been put to film. Lauren closes the show with The Last Showgirl. This one stirred up a lot of Award Season buzz last year with the resurgence of Pamela Anderson. It gets Kevin and Lauren talking about aging and beauty standards in Hollywood and how they are so often hypocritical. All that aside, it's a great movie and it has a quick runtime, so if you see it streaming, definitely give it a go! As always, thank you for watching. If you haven't already, don't forget to Like & Subscribe. We love new viewers! Also, leave us comments and let is know how we are doing and what we can be doing better. Send us a textEver wondered what happens when life throws you major curveballs? Markey Blue's remarkable journey from Las Vegas showgirl to acclaimed singer-songwriter proves that creative reinvention isn't just possible—it's transformative. The moment Markey watched 30-year-old dancers receive pink slips for being "too old," she knew adaptation was essential for survival in the entertainment industry. Her pivot to stand-up comedy led to singing through impressions, eventually landing her in the Radio Hall of Fame where she accepted for Gracie Allen. After moving to Nashville and spending two decades touring the blues circuit, personal tragedy struck when her husband and musical partner suffered a brain injury. Rather than retreat, Markey evolved again—producing her first solo project with a fresh soul/R&B sound that's already catching the attention of television music supervisors. What makes Markey's story extraordinary is her collaborative spirit and connections with music legends. She shares heartwarming stories about working with Steve Cropper (writer of "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay" and "Soul Man"), who became a mentor after hearing her perform. Her latest project features iconic musicians Eugene Moles (Buck Owens, Waylon Jennings) and Mark T. Jordan ("Midnight at the Oasis"). Beyond her own music, Markey now produces for artists across genres, from Americana to Christian reggae.Ready for inspiration to follow your own creative path? Listen to Markey's powerful message: "It's never too late, just keep following that creative doorway because you don't know what's around the next corner." The Film Buff is furious! The Last Showgirl embodies the essence of exceptional filmmaking, yet the Academy Awards snubbed it entirely. Pamela Anderson delivered a career-defining performance worthy of an Oscar, and Jamie Lee Curtis shone brilliantly as her co-star. Tragically, their remarkable work was overlooked, failing to keep pace with the global acclaim it deserved.

Pamela Anderson starring films. Sarah Watt, Jeremy Downing and William Chen discuss The Last Showgirl (2024) and Barb Wire (1996). We begin by discussing Barb Wire and showering it with praise (excuse the pun). We celebrate the 90s-ness of the film. We talk about all the homages and connections we noticed in Barb Wire, including Casablanca (1942), Batman Forever (1995), Alien 3 (1992), Mad Max (1979), Romeo + Juliet (1996), Candyman (1992), Strange Days (1995), and Total Recall (1990). We praise the cast, including Xander Berkeley, Udo Kier and Temuera Morrison. We discuss the production values of Barb Wire, including the visual effects, action, cinematography and other production values. Our conversation explores the criticism of Barb Wire and how the tastes of audiences shifted over the 90s, making connections to Waterworld (1995), Cutthroat Island (1995), Hook (1991) and Charlie's Angels (2000). We move our discussion to The Last Showgirl, directed by Gia Coppola. We talk about the strength of the performances from Pamela Anderson, Brenda Song, Dave Bautista, Billie Lourd and Jamie Lee Curtis. We unpack the script, the tone, the direction and the ultimate aim of the film, with differing reactions from Sarah, William and Jeremy.
FIRST 19:30: Spoiler-Free Review with our See It/Skip It Verdict AFTER 19:30: Full Spoiler Review Give em' the old Razzle Dazzle, Razzle Dazzle 'em. This week, we dive into The Last Showgirl (2024)—a poignant and surprisingly intimate drama that shines a spotlight on the final curtain call of a forgotten performer. Starring Pamela Anderson in a career-redefining role, the film follows a seasoned Las Vegas showgirl grappling with what comes after the music fades and the makeup comes off. We'll examine the storytelling—Does The Last Showgirl speak to something deeper than a typical showbiz redemption arc? How does Pamela Anderson anchor the film with surprising depth, vulnerability, and quiet power? And perhaps most importantly: how does it explore the things we tell ourselves to keep going—the inner monologues we cling to when chasing the happy endings we think we deserve? We'll also break down the film's tone and presentation—Is it a loving tribute to old-school showbiz, or a eulogy for what was left behind? Do the glimmers of glamour still matter when they're tinged with loneliness and longing? And is this a film that requires nostalgia for the past—or is it more about the universal fear of being forgotten? Finally, could this film have been made with anyone else in the lead role or is the whole film a reflexive meta-narrative on the lead actress herself? We'll tackle all these questions as we dissect the film and tell you if we think you should SEE IT or SKIP IT!

Sepia Jewel was no stranger to the stage before her burlesque life! Singing in an all female rap group signed onto Epic Records and designing costumes while dancing for the San Diego Ebony Elite's are just a few items on her resumé (include mother, daughter, wife, and friend). It wasn't until 2016, Ms. Jewel was watching the movie Burlesque that she realized she needed to get back to the stage. At 55 years old, she trained under Coco L'Amour with the Pixie Stixx and from there, the force she possesses couldn't be stopped. Quickly becoming an award winning international showgirl, she soon realized the rhinestone life was aligned with the art therapy she was looking for. 9 years later, Sepia Jewel shows us what it means to be a Black burlesque performer and queen: no age, no location, no *nothing* can stop you.

Margaretha Geertruida MacLeod, better known to the world as Mata Hari, set the Paris stage ablaze on March 13, 1905, with a scandalous dance routine that turned her into an overnight success. Sporting a gold jeweled breastplate and bracelets, Mata Hari's performance was a striptease that left little to the imagination. But even the wildest imagination couldn't envisage what lay ahead for the exotic dancer, courtesan, traitor and spy whose name became synonymous with the femme fatale. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca, and Olly discuss how she played both sides of the First World War for fools; uncover how she met her husband through a newspaper ad; and explain why she always wore a breastplate during sex… Further Reading: • ‘Mata Hari: exotic dancer, femme fatale, traitor and spy' (History Extra, 2019): https://www.historyextra.com/period/first-world-war/mata-hari-exotic-dancer-femme-fatale-traitor-wwi-spy/ • ‘“I am ready”: Mata Hari faced a firing squad for spying — and refused a blindfold.' Pam Anderson's performance of Shelly in “The Last Showgirl” gets better the longer it marinates in your mind, but Jamie Lee Curtis as the cocktail slinging ashtray Annette is an instant high camp icon, and it's clear that Jamie Lee is having the time of her life as the down but never out best friend of a Las Vegas showgirl in her final days on stage. Is this movie just Hysterical Blindness on the Strip? Is Billie Lourd actually 47? Who was in the audience for that last performance? Nothing really gets answered but for about 81 minutes, it's a fascinating kick line of questions. The actress, who says she was a shy girl from a small town in Canada, shares how a chance appearance on a jumbotron at a football game catapulted her into the world of entertainment. She also recalls that her now-former agent nearly cost her the starring role in The Last Showgirl, which has brought her a SAG-AFTRA nomination for Best Actress.
'The Last Showgirl' director Gia Coppola joins the show. Over pesto sorrel bowls and ricotta toast, Gia tells me about the wisdom she's gleaned from her grandfather Francis Ford Coppola, the impact of ‘Jaws' on her, and her love of Las Vegas.
