In recent years, “Christian Nationalism” has become a ubiquitous term in American political discussion. It is said by many with fear and loathing, and by others with great excitement and conviction.Among the enthusiasts include Doug Wilson, who is the pastor of Pete Hegseth, the United States' Secretary of War. And it's not just Hegseth who has ties to the ideology, Mike Johnson, Speaker of the House of Representatives, has also been described as a Christian Nationalist. And many members of Trump's administration and the pro-Trump media have flirted with the idea that Christians and, maybe more accurately, the Bible, ought to be the guiding force behind the government's actions.Last month, Trump hosted Rededicate 250, an event which sought to, in the administration's own words, “rededicate America as One Nation under God.”But as much as Christian Nationalism has become an emotional buzz word, the belief system it describes has varied over time—and the current MAGA-adjacent evangelical iteration is only a small piece of the story of how Christianity and American society have pushed and pulled on each other for centuries. As we recognize the U.S.'s 250th birthday, the question of whether or not America is a Christian nation or whether or not it was intended to be one, continues to show its face in social media feeds, newspapers, podcasts, pulpits and schoolrooms. So, to sort through the complicated relationship between Jesus and Uncle Sam, Joseph Holmes sat down with three American Christian professors: Matthew Parks, Joseph Loconte and David Corbin. The group discusses whether or not the U.S. is a Christian country, whether that's even possible and to what extent Christian beliefs ought to influence political decisions. If you'd like to hear more from our guests today, you can listen to the Democracy in America Today podcast, which is hosted by David Corbin and Matt Parks. Joseph Loconte has written several books, but he is most well known for his writings on C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, the most recent of which was 2025's “The War For Middle Earth.”

Jack LaRoche and first-time contributor Trey Grace go undercover on the National Mall for the May 17th Christian nationalist event Rededicate 250. This White House-linked rally features prayer, fasting, patriotic worship, shofar blasts, AI George Washington, and rumors about whether Trump might appear in person (he didn't.) What begins as a sweaty field trip through Freedom250 pageantry turns into a tour of the increasingly fused worlds of Christian nationalism, the New Apostolic Reformation, Silicon Valley-backed prayer tech, AI evangelism, and Trump-era state religion cosplay. Along the way, the episode digs into America Prays, Pray.com, Peter Thiel-adjacent religious technology, Brian Alarid's dream of praying for every person on Earth by name, Lou Engle and Dutch Sheets' spiritual warfare rhetoric, and the “Appeal to Heaven” flag as a Christian nationalist signal. Religious studies scholar Dr. Matthew D. Taylor joins to explain how NAR networks, charismatic prophecy, and Trumpist politics have converged into a movement that sees itself not as lobbying the state, but as reclaiming it for God. A Call for Renewal | The Message I Shared at Rededicate 250

A few weeks ago I had the honor of speaking at Rededicate 250 in Washington, D.C. it was a national call to prayer on the National Mall as our country approaches the 250th anniversary of its founding. And though the event reiterated our deep need for God as a nation, what I left Washington asking myself was this: How do we rededicate not just our country, but our homes, our marriages, our children, our own hearts? Because while, yes, we're living in a time of deep political division and cultural upheaval, true revival doesn't start in the halls of government—it begins in our own homes. Renewal starts with us. In addition to the remarks I gave at Rededicate, I also share my dad, Franklin Graham's message. During his time on stage, my dad called our nation to repentance and back to true dependence on God, the principles we were founded on 250 years ago. As we approach this milestone anniversary for our country, let's once again examine our own role in building a nation rooted in the message of the Gospel. What would it look like for me—what would it look like for you—to truly rededicate ourselves and our families to the Lord? Our answer to that question has the power to change the course of our country, and our world.

When a faith built to bless the nation gets quietly diverted into power, the most dangerous act left to the church may be refusing to whitewash the story and choosing instead to become a communion of genuinely unlike people. On the eve of a national prayer rally rededicating America to God, Mark Labberton joined The Jim Wallis Podcast to ask whether Christians who invoke the nation's name are following Jesus or drifting from him. Together with Jim Wallis, Mark reflects on what it means to choose Christ alone, love the neighbour, and refuse a faith fused to national power. They discuss the evangel versus "evangelicalism," the church as a communion of unlike people, worship in a black church, American exceptionalism as theological crisis, and racial gerrymandering after recent court rulings. Episode Highlights "I want to be evangel-centric and not be caught up in the icalisms of a history, a pattern, a habit, a sociology that has often been diverted from the evangel into power—political, social, economic, racial power." "Paul's giving us a vision of the church that's a communion of unlike people. We know a lot about a communion of like people. But a communion of unlike people is meant to be one of the hallmarks of the church." "I can't be a Christian alone, but I also can't be a Christian that matures if I'm a Christian only with people who are like me." "Worship of our country, or the exceptionalism of leaders of our country—these are completely foreign to the body of Christ and to the theology of the kingdom." "It's really like subverting reality by renaming it in a way that's euphemistic, that's literally whitewashing." In this episode of AACS Today, Matt and Jamison explore the shifting landscape of religious liberty and the emergence of a "new day" in Washington, D.C. The discussion focuses on the recent work of the Religious Liberty Commission and the Department of Justice's Anti-Christian Bias Task Force, which were established to investigate the "weaponization" of government mechanisms against Christian institutions.Through a detailed look at cases involving Liberty University and Grand Canyon University, the hosts illustrate how administrative processes have been used as punishment, often resulting in fines significantly higher than those issued to secular universities for arguably more severe violations. The episode also addresses the "Rededicate 250" event and Speaker Johnson's articulation of the foundational American belief that human rights are endowed by God rather than granted by the government. Concluding with a call to "eternal vigilance," listeners are encouraged to participate in the upcoming public comment period for the Commission's report to help preserve religious conscience and practice for future generations.

This is the first in a short series, which will be a theological autopsy of how one of Christianity's most respected communicators became MAGA's most dangerous court prophet — and what his collapse tells us about the spiritual crisis inside American evangelicalism.   We'll examine Metaxas's two recent speeches at the Rededicate 250 event and Sean Feucht's Christian nationalist rally — what he said, why it matters, and why it qualifies as false prophecy. We trace his full arc: from the Access Hollywood tape to the January 6th insurrection to his claim that Trump's election was "an outrageous gift from God." We also expose the deepest irony: Metaxas literally wrote the definitive biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer — the theologian who died resisting exactly the kind of regime Metaxas now enables. In October 2024, 86 of Bonhoeffer's own descendants signed a public statement condemning Metaxas by name for misrepresenting their ancestor to serve a far-right Christian nationalist agenda. This is what a false prophet looks like. This is what Christian nationalism does to a man's conscience. And this is why it matters for every believer trying to hold the line.

Christina  Hello, everyone, I'm Christina Darnell, the managing editor of MinistryWatch. Welcome to the MinistryWatch podcast. In today's extra episode, I talk with Warren Smith about some news items that are slightly (even significantly) outside of our normal charity and philanthropy “beat.” So, Warren, what's up first? Warren I subscribe to Kate Bowler's Substack and read this week that she had spoken at Church of the Resurrection in Kansas City. When she wrote that this United Methodist congregation had 25,000 members, I was a bit incredulous. Christina United Methodist churches do not usually grow that large, especially these days. Warren So, I did some fact-checking, and she is right, though most online sources also say that weekly attendance at the church is closer to 6,000. Still, that is big. The church is centrist in theology and has so far managed to stay in the United Methodist Church without suffering a meltdown in attendance, though its growth has flattened in recent years. I am going to keep my eye on the church. It will be an interesting bellwether for the future of the UMC. Christina Moving on, there's a leadership transition coming up at a significant Christian organization. Warren After nearly six years of service, Kevin Van Horne has stepped down as Executive Director of International Fellowship of Evangelical Students/ USA. His last day was Friday, May 15, 2026. According to a statement from the organization, “Kevin led IFES/USA through a season of significant change, helping to serve our global fellowship and partners well. We are deeply grateful for his leadership and for the ways God has worked through him.” Dave Shepherd (Director of Finance) has been appointed to serve as Interim Executive Director. IFES was a MinistryWatch Shining Light Award winner in 2023 and has maintained excellent ratings from us since then. Christina Warren, I know you are always interested in demographics and statistics. But something special caught your attention this week. Warren That's right, and before I say what that was, let me as some rhetorical questions. What is the most significant problem facing America and the world? Nuclear winter? Global warming? Artificial intelligence? I would submit for your consideration the coming depopulation of the earth. For at least 30 years, most reputable demographers have been saying that the world population growth is slowing and will likely top out soon. By the year 2100 the world will be in the midst of a significant population decline. Christina And one thing that caught your attention is just how much this population decline will impact all areas of life on earth. Warren That's right. This decline will have enormous implications for every aspect of life. Cities built for millions of people will disappear, leaving a rotting infrastructure. Economic growth will be impossible. We are already seeing towns in the Midwest and West disappear. That trend will accelerate. Christina I've got to admit, Warren, that that sounds a bit melodramatic. Warren I think it's fair to be skeptical, but population demographics is one area of social science that has pretty sound prediction models. Birth rates have fallen to record lows, and they don't change that much from year to year. So it's actually pretty easy to predict what the population will be in the future. And the numbers don't look good. But if these predictions seem a bit melodramatic to you, I suggest reading a new article from The Atlantic, The Great Depopulation. A world with a shrinking and aging population will offer great opportunities for ministry, but for almost every country on the planet, it will be a culturally wrenching reality. Christina On May 17, an event called ReDedicate 250 brought speakers to the National Mall in Washington. The speakers included Eric Metaxas, Mark Driscoll, Sean Feucht, and Greg Locke – all men we've written about here at MinistsryWatch. Warren That's right. They are a part of what some are now calling the Dissident Christian Right. Christina What does that mean? Warren They are not quite Christian Nationalist, but not mainstream evangelical, either. Most assessments have judged the event as kind of a bust. A few thousand people attended, but DCR pundits had predicted many more. For example, The Christian Post reported that Robert Jeffress predicted the gathering “could be the nation's largest religious gathering in more than 50 years.” It is not clear what the attendance figures for this event forbode for the DCR movement, but the weak attendance was a surprise to me and to many who have been following the movement. Christina And there was a notable passing last week. Warren My friend Bob Woodson died last week at the age of 89. If you do not know about Bob's life and the legacy he leaves behind, I recommend reading John Stonestreet's excellent tribute. It was an honor for me to be a part of the Colson Center team that presented Bob with a Wilberforce Award in 2018. He was sui generis. One of one. I will miss him personally, and our country will miss his leadership. I helped arrange a trip for him to The King's College in 2010 to do a live interview with Marvin Olasky. That interview is worth a listen, and you can find it here. Christina Warren, you've mentioned before, that you are a fan of Carey Nieuwhof's leadership podcast. This week he dropped one of his most personal episodes ever. Warren He recounts how, about 20 years ago, he experienced a period of profound burnout. It is part of a two-part series on how to avoid burning out. I strongly recommend it. You can find the first episode here. Christina Warren, we need to wrap things up here. Any final thoughts before we go? Warren I'll be in Knoxville this week attending an event hosted by my former colleagues and good friends at The Colson Center for Christian Worldview. If you'd like to have lunch with me on Friday, let me hear from you. I'll be doing similar lunches in Denver and Colorado Springs in June. Let me know if you would like to join us. My email is wsmith@ministrywatch.com. Christina That brings to a close this EXTRA episode of the podcast. The producer for today's program is Jeff McIntosh. I'm Christina Darnell, along with Warren Smith. Until next time, may God bless you.

Send us Fan MailGUEST: TODD FRIEL, Executive Director of Fortis InstituteThis Memorial Day Weekend, as we honor the sacrifice of so many members of the military over the generations who gave their lives in defense of our country and freedoms, we ought to thank God for His goodness, patience, and protection of our nation. This year we commemorate 250 years as an independent nation. The Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776 and references God four times as the source of our rights, laws, guidance, and protection. Indeed, early Americans and our history were overtly Christian. But as rebellion against God lurks in the heart of man, we have strayed very far from that today. The Trump Administration, along with public and private organizations, are seeking to change that, to rededicate our nation to God. One week ago, a large event was held in Washington DC called Rededicate 250, promoted as “A National Jubilee Of Prayer, Praise & Thanksgiving. Freedom 250 Invites All Americans to Come Together in Prayer and Worship Ahead of the Nation's 250th Birthday.”Todd Friel, pastor of Alpharetta Bible Church (GA), host of Wretched TV and Radio, and executive director of the Fortis Institute, joins us to discuss several aspects of Rededicate 250 and whether it can lead to Christian revival in our nation. We will also discuss one of the reasons Americans have been persuaded away from God—the college campus.-------------------------PROGRAM NOTES:Fortis+ - Christian streaming and media platform connected to Fortis Institute and the ministry of Todd Friel.Wretched Radio Wretched TVAlpharetta Bible Church

Graham Platner, Maureen Galindo, Raúl Castro, Jeff Bezos, and Pete Hegseth headline today's A.M. Update. Trump calls out Senate Republicans for keeping Obama-era parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough in place, and Aaron uses John Cornyn's non-answer about his Senate record to lay out exactly why he deserved the Paxton endorsement — the list of accomplishments is a long silence. Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner takes another hit as a resurfaced Reddit post shows him mocking a Purple Heart recipient who was shot four times by the Taliban, while Texas 35th district Democrat Maureen Galindo faces backlash even from her own party after pledging to turn the Karnes ICE detention center into a prison for American Zionists, and a castration facility. The DOJ unseals a 1996 indictment against Raúl Castro for the shootdown of two unarmed Brothers to the Rescue aircraft, with acting AG Todd Blanche announcing the charges to an enthusiastic Miami crowd. Jeff Bezos does a wide-ranging CNBC interview calling for zero income taxes on the bottom 50% of earners and criticizing corporate welfare — and Aaron unpacks why the taxation idea would actually increase class resentment. Aaron closes with Pete Hegseth's Rededicate 250 remarks on George Washington kneeling in the snow at Valley Forge.

The "Christian nation" rhetoric and spectacle we're seeing is not just bad history – it's having real ramifications for religious freedom for all in our country today. Amanda is back from sabbatical, and she and Holly discuss recent developments, including an increase in anti-Sharia legislation and fear-mongering that goes with it. They fact-check last week's congressional hearing on the topic and share Amanda's testimony.   Plus, Amanda and Holly discuss the recent "Rededicate 250" event on the National Mall, which elevated common myths tied to Christian nationalism. People can gather to pray, and there have been public worship gatherings before – so, what made that event different?  SHOW NOTES Segment 1 (starting at 00:35): Christian nationalism, myths, and "Rededicate 250" Holly is quoted in this article from Religion News Service by Bob Smietana: A Christian nation? Thomas Massie, Ken Paxton, Karoline Leavitt, Canada's euthanasia laws, and Marco Rubio headline today's A.M. Update. Trump scores another primary scalp as Ed Gallrein defeats Rep. Thomas Massie in Kentucky's 4th district — the most expensive House primary on record — while Trump simultaneously endorses Ken Paxton over incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in next week's Texas Senate runoff, leaving Senate Majority Leader John Thune visibly rattled. JD Vance steps in for Karoline Leavitt at the White House briefing and defends Trump's "I don't think about Americans' finances" comment for over an hour, and the NAACP calls for a student athlete boycott of Southern state universities over redistricting. A resurfaced comment from a Quebec College of Physicians member proposing euthanasia for disabled infants up to one year old prompts Aaron's broader warning about Canada's medically assisted dying laws and the slippery slope from allowance to coercion. Aaron closes with Marco Rubio's Rededicate 250 address tracing America's Christian foundation from the Puritans to the moon landing, and a sharp response to various voices crying about an ungovernable Senate: all you had to do was pass the SAVE Act.

Sunday's nine-hour “Rededicate 250” event on the National Mall brought together politicians and religious leaders calling for America to be returned to God. In this episode, Brad Onishi breaks down key statements from figures like Robert Jeffress, Mike Johnson, Pete Hegseth, and Marco Rubio, exposing how their claims rely on selective history, mythmaking, and a deeply misleading vision of the founding. From the Doctrine of Discovery to the legend of Washington at Valley Forge, the story being told isn't just inaccurate—it's strategic. This episode argues that Christian nationalism is not about personal faith or patriotism, but about power: the belief that certain religious identities deserve greater authority in public life. By revisiting the Constitution, the founding era, and the principle of “we the people,” Brad shows what's actually at stake—religious freedom, democratic equality, and the boundary between church and state. The question isn't whether religion belongs in American life, but whether the government gets to decide whose religion counts. Trump posts on Truth Social that Gulf state leaders asked him to hold off on a planned attack on Iran — again — as Aaron flatly says he no longer thinks there's a plan. Luigi Mangione loses his bid to suppress the murder weapon at trial but wins a small evidence ruling, while three women from his fan club show up at the courthouse to celebrate and say things Aaron calls "wack." A security guard is killed in a shooting at San Diego's largest mosque as two apparent suspects are found dead nearby, and a fast-moving wind-driven wildfire scorches more than 500 acres in Simi Valley. Gavin Newsom hints at a "break the glass" scenario if Democrats get frozen out of California's gubernatorial jungle primary. Zohran Mamdani tries to riff on Reagan's famous government quote and Aaron isn't impressed. All four crew members eject safely after two Navy EA-18G Growlers collide at the Gunfighter Skies Air Show at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, Texas Children's Hospital agrees to a $10 million settlement and opens the nation's first detransition clinic, and Aaron closes with JD Vance's Rededicate 250 speech and a challenge to listeners not to take religious freedom for granted.

JD Vance just went on Fox News and dropped hard truths about the heartbreaking scale of government fraud draining your tax dollars. Vice President JD Vance exposes the shocking levels of waste and fraud in programs like Medicaid, SNAP, Medicare, and more. From billions paid to dead people to massive fraud rings, he's making it clear: This stops now. The Trump administration is going after it with an Anti-Fraud Task Force, shutting down fake operations, issuing subpoenas, and warning that officials who knew and did nothing could face prison time. In this must-watch breakdown of the full interview, Vance explains why fraud was so easy to find before — because no one was really looking — and sets the bold goal of making it "harder to find" in two years by actually securing these programs for American citizens first. This is what America First looks like: protecting hardworking taxpayers from fraudsters and bureaucrats who looked the other way. Vance is delivering real results and holding people accountable. In this Monday Headline Brief of The Wright Report, Bryan opens with a major Iran-linked terror arrest in New York City, where an Iraqi national accused of working for the IRGC allegedly helped plan attacks against Jewish, Israeli, and American targets across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and beyond. He then breaks down the broader war picture, including new drone attacks on the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, President Trump's warning that Iran is running out of time for a peace deal, and a notable shift in the White House's position on Iran's enriched nuclear material. Bryan argues that Tehran is showing little interest in peace, while rising oil prices, market stress, and warnings about shortages of motor oil and lubricants show how the war is increasingly hitting Americans at home. Plus, Bryan covers China's tentative promises to buy more U.S. agricultural products, President Trump's successful move to oust Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy, and AOC's growing push to rally Democrats around socialism, redistricting fights, and attacks on billionaires. He also highlights Texas Children's Hospital ending transgender procedures for minors, and closes with a look at America's 250th birthday, the Rededicate 250 event, and the renewed debate over faith, religion, and the future of the nation.   "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - John 8:32     Keywords: IRGC terror plot New York Mohammad al Saadi 2026, Iran terror attacks Jewish schools US Europe Canada, Trump Iran peace deadline nuclear material shift, UAE nuclear plant drone attack Iran war update, Strait of Hormuz oil prices motor oil shortages 2026, China US agriculture deal beef purchases Trump Xi, Bill Cassidy primary loss Trump revenge Louisiana Senate, AOC socialism redistricting Alabama rally 2028 Democrats, Texas Children's Hospital puberty blockers settlement detransition clinic, Rededicate 250 America religion faith founding fathers, Bryan Dean Wright podcast, The Wright Report

President Trump delivered a powerful message of faith and national renewal during the Rededicate 250 celebration on the National Mall, reading from 2 Chronicles 7 — one of the most cited passages among Christians calling for humility, prayer, repentance, and spiritual restoration. At a time when America feels divided, anxious, and spiritually exhausted, Trump's message struck a deeper chord. This was not just another political speech. It was a reminder of a verse millions of Americans know by heart: a call to humble ourselves, pray, seek God's face, and turn from wicked ways.In this video, we break down Trump's powerful Bible reading, why 2 Chronicles 7 still resonates with so many Christians, how the Rededicate 250 event connects to America's 250th birthday, and why this moment is being seen by many as a call for national revival.Whether you see this as a political moment, a spiritual moment, or a turning point in America's cultural conversation, one thing is clear: Trump's message landed at exactly the right time.Watch until the end, because this moment says something much bigger about faith, America, and the future of the nation. For free and unbiased Medicare help, dial (656) 218-0931 to speak with my trusted partner, Chapter, or go to https://askchapter.org/nez✅ Reach out to me: https://bio.site/professornez✅ ORIGINAL MADE IN U.S.A 250TH AMERICA DESIGNS: https://professornez.myspreadshop.com/✅ Check out our Official Clips Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@professornezclips▶ Support the Channel and Buy us a Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/professornezEducational Commentary & Original AnalysisReporting Framework: This analysis utilizes an Intelligence Tradecraft Evaluation Model, cross-referencing the declassified HPSCI findings with established Intelligence Community Directive (ICD) 203 analytic standards. A prayer festival on the National Mall in Washington, DC was partially organized and funded by the federal government. Its evangelical Christian messaging and call for more religion in politics not less, aligns with the Trump administration's fusion of faith and governance. NPR's Emily Feng went to the event to understand the audience for this approach, and she spoke with author Eric Metaxas, a speaker at the Rededicate 250 festival. For sponsor-free episodes of Consider This, sign up for Consider This+ via Apple Podcasts or at plus.npr.org.  Email us at considerthis@npr.org.This episode was produced by Henry Larson, with audio engineering by It was edited by Sarah Robbins and Daniel Burke. Our executive producer is Sami Yenigun.See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for sponsorship and to manage your podcast sponsorship preferences.NPR Privacy Policy

On May 4, President Trump issued a proclamation which reads: In special honor of 250 glorious years of American independence and on the weekend of Rededicate 250—a national jubilee of prayer, praise, and thanksgiving—Jewish Americans are encouraged to observe a national Sabbath. From sundown on May 15 to nightfall on May 16, friends, families, and communities of all backgrounds may come together in gratitude for our great Nation. This day will recognize the sacred Jewish tradition of setting aside time for rest, reflection, and gratitude to the Almighty.  It is worth pausing on what an astonishing thing that is. For most of Jewish history, when the most powerful ruler in the world turned his attention to the Jews, it was not to encourage their devotion to Jewish law. It was to constrain the Jews, to tax them, to suppress them, to expel them, or to put an end to the miraculous story of the Jews in history. So did Pharaoh, Antiochus, Hadrian, the kings of England and Spain, and the tsars. Even more benign monarchs—the Habsburg emperors, or Napoleon—conditioned the protections of civic life on the Jews giving up some of their distinctiveness. America is exceptional. And now, in the year of America's 250th birthday, the incumbent of the most powerful office on earth has issued a formal proclamation encouraging the Jews to be more Jewish. To discuss this momentous occurrence, Mosaic's editor Jonathan Silver is joined by the historian, writer, former government official, and Washington insider Tevi Troy, who recently wrote an article titled, "A National Sabbath for American Jews." The article appeared on May 14, 2026 in the Wall Street Journal, and is the point of departure for today's discussion.
