In honor of Labor Day, Father Edward Hathaway, the Rector of the Basilica, reads a meditation from the book by Francis Fernandez-Carvajal called “In Conversation with God: Meditations for Each Day of the Year,” Volume 4, weeks 13 to 23. This particular meditation is called “Loving our Daily Work: The Example of Saint Paul.” 

Prayer is not a quick voicemail to God but a real, ongoing conversation with our Heavenly Father. The Bible teaches that effective prayer is fervent, passionate, sincere, and heartfelt, not routine or casual. For our prayers to be powerful, they must align with God's will, and the Holy Spirit helps guide us when we don't know what to ask. God invites us to make our requests known, not because He needs the information, but because prayer deepens our trust and relationship with Him. When combined with thanksgiving, prayer becomes truly effective, unlocking God's answers and transforming our lives.

Stéphanie draws connections between the book of Malachi and other Old or New Testament teachings, such as those found in Micah and Romans, highlighting themes of justice, grace, and God's redemptive love through Christ. The Israelites, through their treacherous actions towards one another, reveal a deeper spiritual unfaithfulness to God. I was listening to Fr. Mike Schmitz talking about the five second rule in regard to food on the floor. But, at the same time I was reading a book about a different five second rule that can literally change your life, in five seconds. ---------- Hi there! Trapper Jack here. Today's reading comes from Volume 1 of In Conversation with God for Wednesday of the third week of Advent.

In this episode, Malcolm K Nair describes his negative life path which led to him having a drug-influenced car accident. While clinically dead, he was able to leave his physical body while watching the scene play out from above himself and the paramedics. He describes having foreknowledge and being able to see multiple people from different regional points, entering a dark void, then light, and coming in contact with spiritual entities and God as well. He also describes his own physical rehabilitation and how he now harnesses the powers he returned with to help others.
